“Well that’s a relief anyway,” Jim laughs. “Mr. Spock, you have taken a load off my mind,” he says, with grandiosity.

The slightest lift of an eyebrow. “I am, as my mother would say, ‘happy to be of service,’ Captain.”

“Jim,” Jim corrects.

An expression flashes briefly across Spock’s face, too swiftly for Jim to translate it. “C’mon you just said ‘Jim’ like 5 seconds ago,” he coaxes.

Spock interjects, like he can’t help himself. “4.2,” he says, then deliberately adds, “Captain.”

‘Nah-uh,” Jim shakes his head. “You called me Jim a bunch of times on the station already too.”

Spock looks briefly (there’s no other word for it) caught-out. “As you say, Captain,” he responds stiffly. 

“Jim,” Jim insists stubbornly, pouting a little. Spock arches an unyielding eyebrow. 

“Please? I like it when you call me Jim.” Spock’s eyes fix intently on Jim’s. He lets a slow, inviting smile grow on his face.

The eyebrow descends back down. “Jim,” Spock capitulates, softly, but all the same, Jim feels it resonating in his bones. He closes his eyes to savor it.

You know what needs to be on my blog? The entire ending of Bingo and the Little Woman.

Why? Because dear sweet Bertie is so mad and is just instantly defused by Jeeves having everything the way he likes. Bertie tries to stay mad, he really does, but he just can’t. I love him and his dynamic with Jeeves so very very much.

I pushed on to the old flat, seething like the dickens. One thing I was jolly certain of, and that was that this was where Jeeves and I parted company. A topping valet, of course, none better in London, but I wasn’t going to allow that to weaken me. I buzzed into the flat like an east wind⁠ ⁠… and there was the box of cigarettes on the small table and the illustrated weekly papers on the big table and my slippers on the floor, and every dashed thing so bally right, if you know what I mean, that I started to calm down in the first two seconds. It was like one of those moments in a play where the chappie, about to steep himself in crime, suddenly hears the soft, appealing strains of the old melody he learned at his mother’s knee. Softened, I mean to say. That’s the word I want. I was softened.

And then through the doorway there shimmered good old Jeeves in the wake of a tray full of the necessary ingredients, and there was something about the mere look of the man.⁠ ⁠…

However, I steeled the old heart and had a stab at it.

“I have just met Mr. Little, Jeeves,” I said.

“Indeed, sir?”

This is a bracket to determine which of the many memorable NPCs from across the Professor Layton games are the greatest.

GAMES INCLUDED: Every game except LBMR. Eternal Diva characters are also not included here.

WHAT COUNTS AS AN NPC?: Anyone who doesn't have a puzzle animation. Characters excluded are Layton, Luke, Flora, Clive, Emmy, Randall, Aurora, Des, Espella, Phoenix, Maya, Katrielle, Ernest, Sherl, Hastings, and Emiliana.

WILL THERE BE NOMINATIONS?: Nope! Every NPC will be included.

WHAT ABOUT THE LAYTONMOBILE/MOLENTARY EXPRESS?: No vehicles. Not characters.

WHAT ABOUT THE PUZZLE LADS/LASSES?: I only plan on including characters that we can speak to in-game, so no Puzzle Lads or Lasses. Sorry to the people who like them 😔

WHY IS NAIYA YOUR ICON?: In my opinion, she's one of the more underrated NPCs of the series. I'll probably cycle through some of the ones I have available to me right now.

WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD I VOTE ON?: Whatever makes you happy :)

ARE ALTER EGOS SEPERATE CHARACTERS?: No. For instance, Ratman is not included because his secret identity is in the tournament.

US OR UK NAMES?: I will try to make available as many names for the NPCs as possible! Which includes their Japanese names and as many names in the localizations as I am able to obtain from the wiki and my own sources. I'll probably reliably have the English (both versions where applicable), Japanese, and French names for every character when I do the bracket rounds. The list below however is entirely in English.

Here's a modern!3ADV ficlet featuring the childrens (including my Threepwood sisters.)

Despite Eliza’s insistence that she was old enough to be everyone’s “shappyroam,” mom, dad, and all their friends insisted on having a grown-up with them.

Uncle Winslow and Auncle Anemone were busy getting ready for their big trip, Aunt Vee was taking part in some big Escape Room challenge with Kyle and Larry, Mr. Acorn was staying home for his own neighborhood’s trick-or-treaters, none of Mr. Link’s friends were available, and he and Mr. Graham didn’t trust Murray after last year.

Which left…

“Now Whisper, please make sure you watch the kids closely. We don’t want them wandering off and getting separated. Especially both sets of twins.” Said Mr. Graham

“WHISPER CAN DO IT!”

Lucas winced a little. Mr. Whisper is nice but he can be really loud. And Lucas once had a “who can shout catchphrases the loudest” contest with Chuckie one time. (Mom and Eliza weren't happy even though he totally won.)

All the grown-ups gave Mr. Whisper all the trick-or-treating rules and after some "come on, let's go let's go's" from Sora and Rosella, the group were on their way.

Lucas liked to think that his neighborhood had the best decorations.

There was the house with all the space monsters out front, the house with big plants with sharp teeth, and that one house with colorful banners and orange flowers (they were apparently for a different holiday but the owners still gave out candy.)

Of course with so many neighbors, Lucas, his sisters, Rosella and Alex couldn't decide which one to start at.

Eliza wanted to start at the house with all the scary zombie decorations.

Rosella and Alex wanted to go to the house with the voodoo dolls at the window and werewolfs and vampires in the yard.

Sora wanted to go to the house with the cartoon character decorations (which led to a small fight with her and Eliza about her being a baby.)

And Lucas and Abigail… didn't really care which house they started with, they just wanted to trick-or-treat with their sisters and friends.

Mr. Whisper saw everyone starting to fight and stepped in.

"Now now, little ones, WHISPER SHALL DETERMINE OUR ROUTE!"

With that, Mr. Whisper covered up his eyes and started to spin around while singing "Eeny, meeny, miney, moe."

"Wait… is Whisper making it too obvious which house ends up picked? Whisper shall try again!"

So he did try again with an even longer version of the song (which now included mentions of him.)

At that point, Eliza put her arms around Lucas and Sora's shoulders.

"I think Mr. Whisper is gonna be at this for a while. Why don't we just go to the houses we want and meet up at another house?"

"But Mama and Papa said we need a grown-up to be a chappy-room."

Sora said, ""Chap-a-rone," Abbi. Like you're shushing someone. And…"

She looked at Mr. Whisper, still singing and spinning.

"I think Lizzie's got a point."

Rosella and Alex, who knew Mr. Whisper better than they did, nodded.

Abigail still looked unsure but Lucas smiled and held her hand.

"Don't worry, Abbi. I go out with just Chuckie and Dee all the time so I can go with you."

That looked like it made her feel better.

Eliza then puffed up her chest and took charge.

"Okay, everyone, we'll go to the houses we want to start at and then we go to the other houses near them and meet up at that house!"

She pointed to a house that had what looked like a dummy dressed as a burglar and a paper speech bubble taped to its head that said "ow my blood!"

"But where do we go from there?" Asked Alex

"We go down the street! That's where the big houses with the big candy are!"

Big candy!?

Yes! Lizzie can be bossy but sometimes she can be the best big sis ever!

"Okay, are we ready?"

Everyone nodded and immediately ran off, Lucas and Abigail going with Rosella and Alex, who were pointing their "weapons" to their first house.

This was gonna be the Best Halloween Ever!

Johnny's started cheering on his students.

The van he stands on in the junkyard has a painted eagle on it.

The kids are wearing protective gear so he's not completely unaware of protection (also Miguel wore protective gear against the baseball thing in a previous episode)

Eli's the one who gets bit by a dog because everyone else picks small cars to jump onto and Eli picks like a truck he can't get over.

Daniel truly goes from JOHNNY to he's a monster and shouldn't be allowed around kids and for...what? So far Johnny just painted a dick on his billboard. Like right? That's the score right? Johnny warned Daniel about Kyler (and was correct). I don't fully get out Daniel got to Johnny is a monster at this point, though maybe he's upset because he doesn't know the details about Kyler? So he thinks Johnny just beat up some teenagers and is teaching the kids to be like him. But also Johnny isn't Kreese or Silver?

Like yes the billboard after the fixing the car for free sucks. But also Daniel already got his revenge on that by doubling rent for everyone at the strip mall. So theoretically...even? And the students have nothing to do with it.

Also shouldn't Daniel be happy she's not hanging out with the previous crowd? Or has he not noticed that she's home more and not hanging out with her friends or Aisha. I guess she never told them and Amanda didn't pass along the fact her newer popular friends ditched her to go to the concert without her.

Rocky III was where they went in '82 because Dutch loved Mr. T. Dutch threw milk duds. Ali dumped popcorn on Dutch got butter all over him.

Johnny had to hit on her a few times before he got a date to Golf 'n stuff and they kissed on the ferris wheel.

I think it would've been more affective to explain that Sam was in the car that t-boned Johnny's firebird and drove off. Rather than make Johnny's problems Miguel's problems.

If Daniel and Amanda who have a big house host Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas...does everyone from Newark fly out?

Sam also lying about Miguel didn't help anything. It reinforced what Johnny said but also hurt Miguel's feelings and for what? Daniel's seen Miguel what twice? Will he even realize Miguel is one of Johnny's students? Does Sam even know that Daniel would recognize Miguel? I don't think she would. It's not like he's wearing cobra kai gear. Also isn't Daniel already in the dog house for being awful (but right) about one of her boyfriends? So shouldn't Miguel automatically get a better shot then Kyler did?

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to Throwback Thursday!

On this page, ‘Throwback Thursday’ is all about memories. So, what do you remember? If I was to say the word RELATIONSHIP, what immediately comes to mind?

In my final years at MTV, I used to walk to work. 6.1 miles from my front door to Hawley Crescent. I would always stop at Costa Coffee for a soya cappuccino. More often than not, I would meet this lovely girl there and we would catch up on events. She’s a teacher and psychotherapist and was very supportive and helpful to me when I morphed into a teacher. Down the years, she’s had a variety of unsuccessful relationships with men, who she described as “immature”. Not surprising, she’s an academic; she needs a little more from her men than shits and giggles. We’ve kept in touch and I met up with her last night. She finally has a boyfriend; someone that she really likes and feels safe with. “I like being in a relationship!” she said. She’s 42 now, Muslim and ready to settle down. Those of us in a relationship understand that. Companionship is very pleasant! Though many men are very resistant to the relationship and try to stay the lothario for as long as possible. Which is why I created the character of Wes in my novels ‘Whatever Makes Them Dance’ and ‘Keep It Fun’. Wes intuitively knows that he’s not a wham-bam single man. Wes knows that he functions better within a relationship, which is why my main female character Roz likes him so much. After 37 years, everyone looks at The Trouble and I as some kind of model relationship, which of course we’re NOT!. The only reason we’re together is because she puts up with my shit and because – for some bizarre reason – she loves me. “It’s not easy!” I said to my friend. “Remember to breathe!” I don’t think she believes me. After only eight months, she definitely doesn’t appreciate those words but what could I say to her? “It’s not easy!” is about the best advice I could give. Having said that, I do like my companion.

So, on this Throwback Thursday, what kind of memories, thoughts or emotions does the word RELATIONSHIP conjure up for you?

People expect me to be Mr. Happy or Mr. Naughty. They expect the cheeky chappie to come up with an endless stream of dad jokes and double entendres. At this moment, that kind of post seems irrelevant and almost insensitive. I am confronted by images of wounded, bleeding, traumatized and weeping children and babies. Callous cruelty beyond words. I don’t really have the heart or inclination to crack any kind of jokes. Right now, all the joy has been sucked out of life. As a trained actor, I will leap into action on Saturday afternoon and I will sound as normal: excited, upbeat, animated, amused. Yesterday, somebody asked me how I was so sure I was abreast of the truth. Thankfully, we have a HUGE array of TV stations, radio stations, newspapers, magazines, websites, blogs and books. Plus, we have ordinary people on the ground with social media feeds that give us live, on the spot reports. We now get ‘news’ stories from a wide range of sources. In order to find the truth, you take ALL of those sources and you filter them through your own knowledge, experience and cynicism, and you even add in a modicum of common sense. Not all people that look like me are good. Not all people with my background are good. Your common sense tells you not to generalise.

Glass Joe: Literally didn't think much of him. Kinda laughed at him before he got his ass handed to him and then it wasn't that funny anymore.

Von Kaiser: Didn't approve of a child being in the ranks but he quickly began to warm up to him, becoming very protective of the kid once he went up the ranks.

Disco Kid: Absolutely loved him right out of the gate. Took him in as a little brother

King Hippo: Small man, strong heart, head pat, leaves = pretty much their interaction after their fight

Piston Hondo: Found him admirable and courageous for taking this on. Nothing much else, other than yhat he seemed pretty funny when he first met him.

Bear Hugger: Smothered the boy in a lot of attention and gifts, and then welcomed him to the Major Circuit.

Great Tiger: "You're short lmao"

Don Flamenco: Fucking hated his guts and hated the idea of a younger champion taking his title away. Got very quickly humbled right after.

Aran Ryan: Believe it or not, he instantly warmed up to Macky, and he and Disco kidnapped him one night to take him out for a Starbucks run

Soda Popinsky: Tried to give him some soda in the hopes he would grow...he did not

Bald Bull: No real opinion, just think he looked dumb and small

Super Macho Man: oh bro this guy used him as a stand to lean on the entire first few minutes of meeting him. He still does to some extent

Mr Sandman: Obviously he wasn't too keen on a CHILD taking his title, but he wasn't too against the idea. He liked the challenge

BRANCH B:

Birdie Mac: Saw him as a brother from the moment he first met him, now the two are basically attached at the hip.

Gabby Jay: Basically same reaction as Joe but even more cocky

Piston Hurricane: He didn't really say much. Probably because he doesn't talk much but he doesn't mind him that much they're alright.

Bob Charlie: Oh they just vibed within the first few minutes of meeting each other. They're algudz.

Dragon Chan: Found him a strong hearted fighter, although he wasn't impressed by a child being in the ranks

Masked Muscle: Tried to give him a wedgie. Did not end well for him.

Mad Clown: Literally threatened to sic his lion on Maac if he came anywhere near him. Mac respectfully keeps his distance.

Heike Kagero: Used Mac as a canvas for some makeup he was testing. They actually bonded a wee bit through it.

Narcis Prince: Hated his guts and still does. Got humbled very quickly

Hoy Quarlow: He bonked him with his stick and then pat his head again in admiration saying he had a very strong head. Mac is still confused on whether or not that's a compliment.

Rick Bruiser: Actually on pretty good terms. Yeah Mac finds him a bit much but they get on beyond that.

The Not So Berry house is a clean house, and Arian appreciates how fresh it smells. Also it means she doesn’t have to do any housework, her belly is getting in the way of everything these days!

Mellow and Scarlet seem to be getting along nicely. Could this be true love? Was Scarlet just too young and carefree when they first fell in love? Well they did have Dijon when they were teenagers so probably. Scarlet sometimes wonders why she jilted Mellow in the first place, her career mattered more than marriage back then and now that she’s almost at the top, she’s re-thinking her position on being Mrs Mellow Dior!

Lord, Katniss always had nightmares 😭 even before the games, between her father’s death, her mother’s abandonment and the other traumatizing things she saw in her life, my girl never slept peacefully a day in her life 🥺.

Also though. Katniss really doesn’t talk much about her father’s death after the first book and definitely doesn’t describe nightmares about it. So .... like basically, the games traumatized her so badly that, her father failing to escape the mines as the collapsed in on him, crushing him into the pits of despair, the possibility of rescuing his corpse deemed unimaginable, pales in comparison? Yes I just tried and failed to phrase that long run on sentence the way Katniss phrases her nightmares about her dad dying, yes that was over the top but you know what? So. Is. Katniss.
