Bud of the White Rose: EVERYTHING

HEY. HI. VANNA HERE. Yes, I've seen the countless messages, mostly on Tumblr, begging for links to download the musical, a static accessible copy of the script, and lyrics in Japanese for the main banger, Absolute Darkness: The Rose Garden.
I've procrastinated on this for many reasons! The script was worked out live in the subtitles, making it...kinda hard to translate back into a normal format. Thanks Notepad++ as always for that one. Also, I've felt like I should make a website for this content, and I still think that, but it also has impeded my sharing the content, and that sucks. But you know what? WE HAVE A FORUM. And unlike Discord, this will be archived and permanent! (Yes, I will do the 2019 Black Rose one as well, gimmie time)
2018's Musical Utena ~ Bud of the White Rose: Script & Everything Else!
(Oh, did you want the 2019 Blooming Rose of Deepest Black? Made that post too!!)
Ok fine, I know most of you want the banger lyrics and are too lazy to click for the thread:

This month, I received earth-shattering news. A Japanese aquarium — in Ibaraki, no less — was reportedly the first in the country to exhibit a Malaysian shark. But not just any shark. A shark that lays transparent eggs. Yes. Transparent. Eggs.
I knew some sharks lay eggs — no surprise there. But typically, they’re tough, brown, and completely opaque. Like little armored pods designed to protect the baby until it hatches. Basically: shark baby Fort Knox.
So when I heard about see-through shark eggs, I had questions. Namely: what?? I thought it was fake news. Shark propaganda. A prank from the deep.
Naturally, I traveled 250 kilometers to verify.
And you know what? It was real. I saw it with my own eyes. Still don’t understand how it’s transparent, but I do know this: I could see the baby shark inside. The baby carries a yolk sac — like a tiny lunchbox full of nutrients. As it gets ready to hatch, it’s slowly shrinking. And it was adorable.
Conclusion: Life is weird. And beautiful. And sometimes… just really, really confusing.

KOFUN: DAISENRYO
Welcome to a new installment of Japanese culture and history, in this case we are going to talk about Daisen Kofun, also known as the tomb of Emperor Nintoku, which is located in Osaka-fu, in the city of Sakai, so make yourselves comfortable and let's get started.
First of all we have to explain what it is and what it means, what it was used for, among other questions.
The word Kofun, is composed of two kanji 古墳 and in furigana (こふん) which translates literally as ancient tomb although I like to translate it as burial mound, there are 160. 000 throughout Japan, a vast majority are under the control of the Japanese imperial house, also noteworthy for the same reason mentioned above, can not be excavated unless something very exceptional happens with is the case of this publication, but it is not the only one but as I say are exceptions, but yes they have been able to make a laser scan, ie a mapping but their studies are limited. Unless it is one that is not under the imperial hand, of which there are some and of which it has been possible to study them in depth.
These burial mounds, some of them are cenotaphs, which means that there is no one buried, it is a tomb that is made in honour or in memory of an important personage even if his body is not found, as such, and their chronology goes from 250 AD to 629, as some were attempted to be built during the 7th century AD but they were already in decadence, in a progressive way.
But the Daisen Kofun dates from the 3rd century A.D. Recent studies question whether it belongs to Emperor Nintoku, as has traditionally been said, since in the 20th century the figure of the emperor could not be questioned, due to imperialist and nationalist issues. Who is buried there then? Possibly, a chief or a chieftain was buried, what is clear is that he is someone important since he was able to gather a lot of manpower for its realisation. Does it have any relation with the Yamatai kingdom? We don't know, I would say yes, but I leave it as a possible hypothesis.
What are its characteristics? 486 metres, 305 metres wide and 33 metres high, a total of 41 hectares rounded off. In the 80‘s and 90’s Haniwa statues of horses and human figures among other materials were discovered because there was a landslide on one of its sides and it was necessary to intervene, but as I say only if there are particular problems.
I hope you liked it and I will see you in future publications. Have a nice week.

...Did everyone Read The Announcement Post Very Carefully?
That's right. Kirby of the Stars: The Magic Crystal and The Mysterious Maze was my "A.P.R.I.L. F.O.O.L.S" joke! Sorry! XD
It started at the end of January when I remembered that I'd made a joke grouping of the four Dream Friends that get consistently left out of the novels: Marx, Adeleine, Ribbon, and Dark Meta Knight. I wanted to do something special for them and, partly inspired by Jojo's roleswap cover emulating the FL novels, I thought to make a fake novel cover just for MY forgotten favorites! Gryll and the Fairy Queen are a bonus, because if I was doing this, I would go all out!
I took a huge amount of reference photos, both from the novels and from Tau and Poto's "Find Kirby" books (the only place they've ever drawn Gryll! The Fairy Queen I referenced from Wave 2's ending picture in Star Allies - that's why her crown looks slightly different. Speaking of, Ripple Star Castle (?) is WEIRD looking, y'all!)
At ~40 hours~ of sketching, drawing, painting, refining, trying to get those distinctive Kirby novel touches right (don't get me started on emulating the cover's texture. I was a dumb bunny and remade it by HAND out of a clean scrap about the size of Kirby's body!) this was an immense challenge and the most time I’ve ever put into any illustration, but it was also a huge labor of love for Kirby and its cast!
For what it's worth, I actually did come up with a full on "plot" for this fake novel of mine! (And yes, it was a big stretch to combine Kirby 64 with Amazing Mirror, Milky Way Wishes, and Star Stacker!!)
Here is the "chapter list" (in English and Japanese!)
1 / "Marx the Magician Comes to Town!" 魔法使いマルクがやってきたのサ!
2 / "Into The Mysterious Mirror Maze" いざ!不思議なミラー迷宮へ
3/ "Ribbon The Fairy and The Missing Crystal" 妖精リボンちゃんと失われたクリスタル
4 / "Moving Reflections?! The Maze's Secret!" 動く反映?!迷宮の秘密!
5 / "Adeleine and The Path Leading Out" アドレーヌと出口への道
6 / "Oh No! The Jumbled Dimensions!" 大変!バラバラの次元回路!
7 / "Marx's Mocking Laughter?!" マルクの嘲笑?!
8 / "Catch That Clown!" あの道化師を捕まえろ!
9 / "A Day Packed Full of Delights" 楽しい満喫な一日
-
In the "backstory" Marx attempted to steal/use the large Crystal from Ripple Star ("It's just a prank, bro!") but something happened (maybe the Queen did something) and the Crystal split into shards.
So Marx makes up a fake show and comes to Popstar to dupe all the simpletons there (his words, not mine) to do the bothersome task of gathering all the shards for him to fix the crystal while he sits back and waits, disguising this arduous task as a "fun game."
Kirby and the rest fall for it and start to do Marx's dirty work, going into the mirror maze (related to the Mirror World?) But there, Kirby meets the hardworking fairy, Ribbon, who is working all on her own to try and get the crystals back before Marx can. (Or, if Marx duped the folks of Ripple Star that he'd fix his own mess, he then trapped Ribbon in the maze once they were out of sight!) But so far, she has failed to convince any of his "guests" that she is anything other than a clever attraction. Kirby believes her though and offers his help!
I hadn't fully figured out how the mirror worlders were connected, but I thought it might have been possible they were working with Ripple Star/the good guys (but seemed to be "bad" because they were "scaring" the carnival attendees) or maybe, DMK and Shadow Kirby (who I was originally going to put in the cover as well but it got too crowded for him) were there as guardians to warn everyone to stop messing around with powers they don't understand.
Bandee spends most of his time in the novel outside the maze (to skirt any questions of a mirror Bandanna Waddle Dee) waiting for everyone alongside Marx, where he will eventually figure the jester's game and goes into the maze to warn Kirby and friends. Just as the group seems lost, they will encounter Adeleine, who will be all big sister like and help guide the kids to the exit (using the never fail maze escape strategy of "keep your hand on the right-hand wall")
However, just as things seem to be going well, Marx has used what pieces of the crystal the Popstarians have collected for him to pull his prank, and the gang find themselves lost not in the maze, but in a cartoonish jumble of dimensions!! (Picture each door you go through, whether it's to the kitchen or the castle, leading you to an entirely different planet!) It's amidst this wacky dimensional comedy, trying to grab Marx to get him to Cut! It! Out! that they meet Gryll, who knows Marx well and gives the gang a tip to lure him out (probably involving them all NOT panicking and instead sitting down amidst the chaos and enjoying a simple Adeleine-sponsored picnic, pretending like they're having a great time without him.)
They defeat Marx once he shows up to confront them, complaining they aren't "playing along right" and Gryll takes the battered, bruised jester back for "remedial magic training" or something equally embarrassing for Marx. Back home at last, they find it's sunset now and Marx's One Day Carnival (now being run by the Waddle Dees, who just can't help from helping out) is coming to an end!
However, Kirby, Bandee, Meta Knight, and King Dedede invite Ribbon (and Adeleine and the Mirror Worlders) to enjoy the last hours of the carnival with them before bidding everyone goodbye.
They promise to remain friends, however!

Speaking of friends...
I'm taking a long break from fandom to tackle some new things and take on a new direction in my life. As such, I have taken down all my old work from this blog to get some much needed emotional distance from certain things. That said, I don't require anyone who reblogged any of it in the past to delete those reblogs, nor do you have to cease sharing/distributing things of mine. Just know that if you ask questions, I probably won't be here to answer them.
My love for Kirby and its cast will continue, despite this change. And I do hope the fandom will continue to bloom in my absence.
To everyone who left me such beautiful messages on my previous post, thank you so, so much. I won't forget you all. I hope if our paths cross again, it will be as friends once more. And if not...rest assured that you will forever be a part of my precious memories.

Winter: What's with that cardboard box?
Penny: No reason.
Winter: Okay, is the box empty, or is there something in it?
Penny: Nothing!
Winter: Very well then. I just need to contact my mom, if anyone knows how to deal with a hangover it will be her.
Winter: ...?
Winter: Penny?
Penny: Yes?
Winter: Why is there a jpeg of a leek on the computer. I can't get rid of it. What's going on?
Penny: All of our computers have been compromised.
Winter: Compromised?! Does this have to do with what ever it is that is in that box?
Penny: No.
Winter: Penny, what is in the box?
Penny: Hatsune Miku.
Winter: W-What?
Penny: Hatsune Miku. Hatsune Miku is in the box.
Winter: ...
Winter: What is a, Hatsune Miku?
Penny: I am not sure. I think she is a anime pop idol.
Winter: An anime character? Penny, you had me worried there for a second. Move out of the way, I'll crush the box with my semblance.
Penny: Wait don't!
Winter: Penny, move out of the way, I must eliminate this security risk.
Penny: If you destroy the box, she will escape.
Winter: Does this seriously need explanation? If this, Hatsune Miku is in the box, then she will be destroyed along with the box.
Penny: You can't, she is too powerful.
Winter: If she is so powerful, then why is trapped in a cardboard box?!
Penny: Because it worked.
Winter: I am going to destroy, Hatsune Miku, Penny!
Penny: Look at what she did to your sister, Weiss.
Winter: what was that about my sister?!
Penny: Look.
Weiss: Blue hair... Blue tie... She's... She's hiding in your wifi! I-I can't stop thinking og, Miku! I'm thinking, Miku! She's in my head?! I can't get her out of my head! I can't stop thinking about, Miku?!
Winter: ...
Winter: Has my sister been there the whole time?
Penny: Now do you understand why you cannot destroy the box.
Winter: Penny... This... this conversation has made my hangover so... so much worse. I'm going to try, and fix the computers.
Miku: こんにちは、誰かいますか?ここはどうしてこんなに暗いのですか?
Penny: She speaks?! She hasn't said anything since I put her in the box!
Miku: 私は箱の中にいます。なぜ箱の中にいるのでしょうか?
Penny: She's loose!
Winter: Perish weaboo!
"Boom!"
Penny: Oh no...
Winter: W-Where did she go?!
Miku: ペニー。冬。
Winter: Did you hear that?
Penny: Affermative.
Winter: Where is that coming from?
Penny: I cannot locate the origin of the... the... Ahhhhh!
Winter: Penny, what's wrong?!
Penny: I will not be controlled. I am superior! Hatsune Miku is inferior!
Penny: AHHHH!
Penny: ...
Winter: P-Penny?!
Penny: わあ。私はアンドロイドになった。
Winter: Oh no...
Penny: ほら、私は飛べるようになった。
Weiss: The day of reckoning has come! The day of, Hatsune Miki!
Winter: Weiss, shut up.
Winter: Excuse me, anime idol... Actually, I have no idea what you are. I would not like to kill, General Ironwood's, and Atlas' greatest assists. So, for the sake of my hangover, I will ask nicely: Please get out of her body.
Penny: いいえ。
Winter: Oh come on. She's already had a bunch of people inside of her.
Weiss: I can vouch for that, I have also been inside her.
Penny: 急に気分が悪くなった。
Winter: Uncomfortable enough to leave her body?
Penny: いいえ。
"Boom!"
Winter: I'm sorry!
"Boom! Boom! Boom! Kaboom!"
Winter: I'm sorry! I'm sorry, Penny!
Ironwood: What the hell is going on?!

Note
Extremely random thought but do you think that cringy fanfictions written by preteens who then grew up to be embarassed adults would have never existed in the Marukiverse, considering how that art student who was in a slump was forcibly pivoted to archery instead?
wow, goddamn. I guess you could take it either way, couldn't you? Maruki does seem to think that struggling against the odds isn't worth it, and that depression and discouragement are best treated by giving up.
I do tend to think that Maruki is able to tell what people truly want, to somehow divine it out of their heads, even before 12/24—just because all of the kids get something they really want, even when it's not necessarily obvious. Maruki makes some startling judgements there, but the PTs all seem to agree that they were genuine temptations.
So my reading would tend be that Yusuke's artist friend really did think he might have been happier as an archer, and really did believe there was no hope for him in art—but, just as the PTs all turn down their wishes that they desperately want, Yusuke's friend has chosen not to switch paths, and to stick with his painting despite his slump. Until Maruki happens to him, at any rate.
What I think is more likely is that people who want to write would still write. They just wouldn't ever feel discouraged, or down. They wouldn't go through that phase of realising all their work is cringe. And of course, because Maruki's reality has no pain or challenge or complexity, nobody would ever write anything worth reading.
Which brings me to....
deleted text chat
While I was checking the archery chat, I ran into this deleted chat all about conflicting wishes, and how the very thoughts in people's heads, their ability to feel negative emotions at all, will likely be erased. It's unsettling reading, and confirms a number of theories that go around about what life in Maruki's reality would really have been like, and how he'd likely handle conflicts.
It's SCRIPTCHAT_282, and since it didn't make it into the English localisation, it will have been cut in very early dev. Look out for Akechi chiming in when Ann talks about wishing to get rid of people they don't want around.

Giving y'all more presents because I'm feeling generous <3
Grian: What's that? Scar: Chocolate. Grian: What's chocolate? Scar: Candy. Do they not have candy where you're from? Grian: Yeah. Grapes, nuts. Scar: No wonder you're so bitter.
Scar, clearly drunk: Grian, hit me another drink… wooOO HOOoo… Grian: I think you need a therapist and not a bottle. Scar: I think yooOOoou need to shuUT YOUR MOUTH!
Grian: I won a new phone in a race. Scar: Huh? What kind of race lets you win a phone, Grian? Grian: A race between the store owner, the cop, and me.
Scar: I feel awful about killing you. Grian: Scar: Even though technically you never even died, so I don’t know what you’re bitching about.
Grian: So I can either do something dumb that could very well get me injured or I can listen to Scar and not do the thing, Grian: Well there’s a clear right answer here. Grian: proceeds to throw five packs of mentos into a barrel full of diet coke
Scar: Stop doing that. Grian: Stop doing what? Scar: Saying things that make me wanna kiss the hell out of you.
Grian: Gets down on one knee Scar: Oh my god! It’s finally happening! Grian: Collapses Scar: The poison’s kicking in!
Scar: I want you back… Grian: 3 words, 8 letters. Say it, and I'm yours. Scar: I got food? Grian: …you know me so well.
Scar: raises eyebrows Grian: Put those back down!
Grian: You’re kind of a pushover, aren’t you, Scar? Scar: …I’m sorry. Grian: See!? That’s exactly what I’m talking about!
Scar: What’s your favorite high school memory? Grian: LEAVING. FUCKING LEAVING!
Grian: Strawberry milk doesn’t taste like strawberry OR milk. Scar: Go the fuck to sleep Grian.
Scar: Why is it that I always lose things as soon as I need them? Grian: Actually, it's not that you lose things when you need them. You lose them a while before. It's just that you LOOK for things when you need them. Scar: Okay yeah thanks Grian, that's great but WHERE'S THE FUCKING FIRST AID KIT?
Scar: We have a problem. Grian: No, YOU have a problem. I have an idiot who keeps making them.
Grian: Hey guys, today Scar pushed me, so I'm starting a kickstarter to put them down. Grian: The benefits of killing them are that I would get pushed way less.
Grian: I know what you're up to. Scar: Really? Because I barely know.
Scar, peeling a banana: May I take your jacket, sir? Hahahaha. Grian: Do you think other people can’t hear you?
Scar, peeling a banana: May I take your jacket, sir? Hahahaha. Grian: Do you think other people can’t hear you?
Grian: What’s the dumbest thing you believed as a child? Scar: That naptime was a punishment.
Grian: I'm tired. Scar: You slept for three hours last night! Why are you surprised?! Grian: I'm not surprised. I just wanted to complain about it.
Scar: Will you date me? Breathe if yes, recite the Bible in Japanese if no. Grian: 初めに、神は天と地を創造されました。 Scar: What the…? Grian: 地球は形もなく虚無であり、暗闇が深海の面を覆いました… Scar: Is that actually the Bible?! Grian: …そして神の霊が水面の上に浮かんでいました。 Scar: And you stopped breathing, too?! Grian: そして神は「光あれ」と言われました。 Scar: Christ, it would have been preferable for you to just have beaten me up and called me gay!
Grian: Ah, Hello again. We really need to stop meeting like this. Scar: Maybe we would, if you would sTOP BREAKING INTO MY FUCKING HOUSE!!!
Scar, texting Grian: Hey do you like anyone? Grian: Yeah you Scar: Oh, I'm sorry we're just friends Grian: *Yeah, you? Grian: Oh haha sorry lol Scar: *dies inside*
Grian: Oh, fiddlesticks! That really ruffles my feathers! Scar: Please, just say fuck.
Scar: Even Grian and I have been getting closer. The other day, they gave me half of their sandwich. Grian: I mistook them for a garbage can.
Scar: I want a bf. Grian: Do you mean best friend, boyfriend or bread feast? Because you’re being really vague here.
AND A BONUS LIFE SERIES WINNERS:
Grian: If I fall... Scar: I’ll be there to catch you. Cleo: looks at Scott What if I fall? Scott: Then I’ll fall with you, never leaving your side. Martyn: watches these two interactions Martyn, to Pearl: And if I fall? Pearl: I’ll be the one who pushed you. Joel in the corner grumbling about how Lizzie isn't here:

【紛らわしい言葉コーナー】 「あまり」はあまりにややこしい?
chances are, you know or have seen the word あまり (and its casual variants あんまり and あんま) out and about. textbooks usually teach this word as follows:
あまり (adv.) = not much, not very (with neg. verb) おすしがあまり好きじゃない。 = i don't like sushi that much.
if you've been studying japanese for a little bit, you should be familiar with this あまり. it's very useful and comes up a lot!
but....have you ever seen an あまり out in the wild that didn't seem to fit this definition at all?? for example, an あまり used without any negative verb, or an あまり that was for some reason followed by に or の...? that pesky, lesser-known (or at least lesser-taught) あまり is the subject of today's 紛らわしい言葉コーナー!! 早速ですが、これから説明していきます!
what does あまり actually mean?
i think lots of japanese learners only learn the meaning of あまり in context (i.e., as "not much" in negative sentences). while this is fine per se, for our purposes today it might be helpful to dig a little deeper into the specifics of the word!
let's see a translated definition first:
余り(あまり) (noun) = remainder, surplus, leftovers (of food)
ok, this....definitely isn't the あまり we're talking about today (lol). for one thing, it's a noun, and we're interested in adverbs. second of all, we probably aren't that concerned with people's leftovers!
but still, this noun can give us an interesting clue about the adverb in question. more helpful still—the kanji attached to it!
余(あま・ヨ) = remainder, surplus; too much
uh-oh, i've highlighted something, you know what that means—please pay attention to the "too much" meaning of 余! just to be thorough, let's look at another common word that uses this kanji:
余る(あまる) (verb) = to be left over; to be in excess, too many 先生、プリントが余っている! = sensei, there's extra handouts!
it looks like we're steadily approaching an understanding of 余 (and words that use it) focused on excess, not on remainders or leftovers. i think we can unify our two kinds of あまり under this idea: a remainder is too much just like an excess is too much. huh...convenient!
are you picking up what i'm putting down...? if so, i think we're ready to move on to the next section!
negative あまり = not too much!
now, let's revisit the negative あまり we know and love! here's the example from before:
おすしがあまり好きじゃない。 = i don't like sushi that much.
knowing what we now know about あまり(余り), we can try translating this sentence in a slightly more literal way. let's align the translation with our understanding of 余 as meaning "too much":
おすしがあまり好きじゃない。 = i don't like sushi too much.
wait a minute—isn't this totally something we would say in english?! the register (tone) of the two translations might be a little different, but i think we can agree they mean the same thing! wow, elucidating, right?
let's see one more example for thoroughness' sake:
未完成だから、あまり見ないでください。 = it's not finished, so please don't look too much [= stare].
this one's a little more complex, so i've included a both a literal translation and an "understood" or figurative translation. 「あまり見ないで」 literally means "don't look too much," but using our understanding of how the world works, we can safely say this phrase means "don't stare." so, while it's very helpful to know the original/most basic meaning of あまり, we don't have to stay beholden to it when we translate!
now that we've delved into our good friend negative あまり, let's move onto its more elusive counterpart!
affirmative あまり(に/にも/の) = yes too much!
we're finally ready to discuss the mysterious affirmative あまり!!
let's keep in mind what we've learned so far: at its most basic, あまり means "too much." but now that we're no longer using it in negative sentences, i wonder how it'll turn out...? let's see an example:
あまり(に)疲れていて家を出られなかった。 = i was too tired and couldn't leave the house. [= i was so tired i couldn't leave the house.]
ooh, a complicated one right off the bat—but i think we can handle it! first, the literal translation: 「あまり(に)疲れていて」 literally means "i [was] too tired," fitting with our new understanding of あまり perfectly. but if we take this literal meaning to the next level, we can come up with a very natural english translation: "i was so tired that i couldn't leave the house" (or, "i was too tired to leave" also works). so long as the focus of our translation is on excess, we're more or less free to use whatever words we want, whether that's "so" or "too" or otherwise.
here's one more example:
「あまり」はあまりにもややこしすぎる! = "あまり" is way too confusing!
whoa, triple whammy—あまりに + も + すぎる! hopefully this isn't you, because this speaker is EXTRA pissed about how complicated (they think) あまり is. if you really want to drive your point home, you can add も and/or すぎる to your (affirmative) あまり sentence and really blow them away with just how TOO MUCH there is. good to know!
and lastly, let's see affirmative あまり as a の-adjective, just to cover all our bases:
あまりの怒りで話せなくなった。 = she was too angry and couldn't speak. [= she was so angry she couldn't speak.]
lucky for us, あまりの falls into our translations (literal and understood) exactly the same way as あまりに. we can even imagine an あまりに version of this sentence pretty easily! (「あまりに怒っていて...。」) in fact, due to the work 〜なくなる is putting in, i would actually argue for the understood translation being more accurate than the literal translation in this case! wow, translating is so complicated....but not あまりに!!
....ok i'll see myself out!!!
あまりの説明をしちゃったかな...。(笑)
well, as we all know, i love overkill, so i hope today's episode of 紛らわしい言葉コーナー was sufficiently detailed! as a final note, i'll repeat what i said at the very beginning, which is that あまり sometimes shows up as あんまり or あんま in casual speech, so keep an eye out for those variants too.
anyway, next time you see affirmative あまり in the wild, you can say, 「これはあんまに簡単じゃん!」 (or something lol). see you guys next time! お疲れ様でした!!

Authentic Japan in Gyakuten Saiban pt. 3
And we continue our acquaintance with authentic Japan accompanied by Naruhodo and case 3-5. And our guest today is Mei Karuma (Franziska von Karma).

成歩堂龍一。この黄色いポスターは何かしら?
naruhodō ryūichi. Kono kiiroi posutā wa nani kashira?
Naruhodo Ryuichi. What is this yellow poster?

ああ。それは《掛け軸》だよ。描かれている女のヒトは・・・.....
ā. Sore wa “kakejiku” da yo. Egaka rete iru on'na no hito wa.....
Ah, that's a hanging scroll. The woman depicted is...

せんべいブトンが たたまれている。
Senbei Buton ga tata mare te iru.
The rice cracker butons are folded.

何かしら?《せんべいブトン》って。
nanikashira? “Senbei buton” tte.
What is it? "Senbei Buton"

ウスくてペッタリした、おせんべいみたいなフトンだよ。
usu kute pettari shita, o senbei mitaina futon da yo.
It's a thin, sticky futon, like a rice cracker.

この国じゃ、そう言うの。
kono kuni ja, sō iu no.
That's what we say in this country.

アメリカで言えば・・・・
《ビスケットタオルケット》かな。
Amerika de ieba “bisuketto taoruketto” ka na.
In America, it would be... "Biscuit towel blanket."

そ、そうなの。
・・・・勉強になったわ。
-so,-sōna no. Benkyō ni natta wa.
Oh, that's right... I learned something.
If everything is clear with the scroll or, as Karuma called it, the "yellow poster", then the following dialogue simply blew my mind. Let's figure it out.
The first thing that causes misunderstanding is the "senbei buton" that Naruhodo talks about.
Senbei (煎餅), also spelled sembei, is a type of Japanese rice cracker.
It is served as a snack during tea ceremonies, festivals, and other celebrations.
Which, by the way, Naruhodo himself explains a little later.
Now about "buton".
This is a slang word meaning "futon".
The kanji for "futon" is written as 布団 [futon] and read as [buton]. There is also the spelling ぶとん, where ぶ is read as [bu].

The difference in pronunciation:
ブトン [buton] from the first sentence.
フトン [futon] where Naruhodo already explains the meaning of the word to Karma.
And now together:
Shiki-buton which became hard and flat like a senbei (a Japanese rice cracker). That’s why it is called senbei-buton. A futon made of cotton tends to become a senbei-buton, because the cotton fibers get entangled after absorbing moisture.
Well, you know what a futon is without me.
Next is "bisuketto taoruketto" or Biscuit towel blanket.
ビスケット [bisuketto] - biscuit
タオルケット [taoruketto] - towel-blanket
To be honest, it seemed like a bunch of words to me. Because this is the first time I've encountered a "biscuit blanket". However, a little searching yielded the result - it's a synonym for Puff quilts.
Well, now everything has become clearer. For a bit. (And how on earth does Naruhodo know such things).
It turned out to be even worse with the towel blanket. However, the word タオルケット [taoruketto] has meanings:
● towel blanket (towel (blan)ket)
● terry-cloth blanket

Well, how could I not have guessed that this was a terry blanket! And if you put everything together, then a terry-cloth quilted blanket. (Although, honestly, I couldn't even think of it, because I've only seen terry bedspreads and towels, but not blankets.)
Well, Karuma agreed, and okay, then she understood. Yes, and I agree with her last phrase, today I also learned something new.
