I geniunely cannot stand when allistics try to say Resident Alien is actually making fun of autistic people because they believe Harry is too childish now because I JUST-

In the beginning, Harry tried SO MUCH HARDER to fit in with the humans around him. He mimicked their speech patterns, consistently observed them, emersed himself in their activities so they wouldn't suspect he was different.

The Harry now? He doesn't care. He's loud in places he should be quiet. He talks how he wants. He laughs FREELY. He's learned large crowds of people? Not for him. He doesn't like being touched by strangers.

He's just Harry. Himself. Because he can be. Because he's realized even if some of the people of Patience find him strange, it doesn't matter. They'll never guess he's from outer space.

Have you noticed that every other alien we have seen is not like Harry? Not the greys, or the half human hybrids, not even Heather. When Heather is around humans who know she is an alien, we get to see the difference, but when she isn't? She fits in so well with any other neurotypical human.

Not Harry though. So yes, he is autistic because I said he is. Because I am autistic. And if you're allistic, you don't get to tell autistic people they shouldn't headcanon Harry as autistic (even though it is very obvious they're purposefully playing him as neurodivergent now.)

When you take an autistically coded character that a lot of autistic individuals relate to, and try to argue the character is actually a "child" and being "infantalised," you're actually being ableist.

You're saying that the traits we have resonated with are childish... Harry seems like he's "regressed" because instead of trying to adapt and pretend to be human, he is becoming something else entirely. Not human, but not fully alien either.

The body of doctor Harry Vanderspeigle was once just a disguise. Now it IS Harry's. It's his body, his own skin. And he's gotten comfortable in it and you know this because you deliberately witness times where he might be holding his hands like he would his claws (primarily when he's sleeping.) His brain doesn't realize he's not in his normal form, because in many ways, this is his new normal form.

He has emotions. He cares. He's in completely new territory and finding himself. And in doing so, that carefully crafted human mask? It's fallen a bit.

So that thing you label as "regression" is a thing I label as progress. He's learning still. Let him learn. Let him be. And give it time. And I hope to GOD Harry never becomes fully human to the point we can't recognize him. I hope he never loses his unique inflictions, or his love for pizza and pie. I hope he continues to love the quiet. I hope he ALWAYS laughs obnoxiously. I hope he always runs like he doesn't know what to do with his limbs. I hope you always see his emotions throughout his body because they simply cannot be contained. I hope he continues to jump when excited or pace when he's angry. I hope he stays obsessed with Law & Order forever.

Because if you take all that away, you're taking away the bits that make him Harry. You want a carbon copy human. I want the autistic alien struggling to understand human nature.

That being said, of course you can express your opinion him. And it can be discussed because everyone is going to have a different perspective.

But you don't get to dictate an autistic perspective if you are not autistic. Or try to cancel anyone for it either.

I love Harry. And I relate to him SO MUCH. And I love how much representation I can see him through him for me. Because I personally believe Alan and the writers have chosen to keep presenting this character as ND.

It's okay to dislike the direction of his character development. It's okay to find the flaws. It's okay to share that perspective. What's NOT okay is dictating the feelings of others because they might not agree with you.

I don't find him childish. I see him as an autistic individual trying to navigate a society that his brain hasn't been hardwired to understand.

And if you think he's too childish, please look closer at the why you think he is. Really be introspective on this one.

Because Harry is a parent. And has a child. And he has relationships. And he takes care of himself. Not only that, he is the town doctor and takes care of everyone else too. He is the smartest. He is the strongest. None of the characters have had to worry about the wellfare of Harry specifically. Its why no one realizes the greys have captured him. Because of course Harry would be fine, hes the alien expert. He knows what he's doing. So while everyone else spent so much time worrying about each other, no one was left to worry about Harry.

So ask yourself why you believe Harry has become "too childish" and if your answer comes down to any of his quirky traits or his misunderstandings of human nature, then you really need to consider if what you're actually uncomfortable with is autism/autistic traits.

Thinking about IDW Optimus again and the fandom's aversion to even acknowledging he exists bc he's a cop or whatever and like. Most of the time people literally just replace him in fic with some white bread knockoff archivist/librarian, not even bothering to keep in IDW OP's personality (which just bolsters my theory that the problem isn't him being a cop the problem is that he's too multifaceted but I digress).

And it's annoying because you could totally write IDW Optimus as not a cop while still keeping his canon personality. You just have to realize that the reason IDW OP became a cop in the first place is because his formative experiences when he was young shaped him to basically have two priorities: 1. To help people and 2. To do it by being on the ground actively doing something about the bad things happening to people.

IDW OP would not be a fucking librarian or archivist because even though those are noble pursuits that can help people and change the world, and Optimus is educated/smart enough for the profession, he wouldn't be satisfied just teaching people or spreading information about activism or social-historical studies or whatever. He's a mech of action: he needs to be doing things right now, in front of him, to people he sees/interacts with in his own eyes, improving society with concrete actions rather than indirect action or abstract inspiration.

So basically the alternate job ideas I can think of for IDW Optimus are something like being a firefighter (or any first responder really) or even whatever the equivalent would be to international charity organizations, those ones that send volunteers across the world to do stuff like build housing/infrastructure or distribute food or whatnot. I mean I can't imagine that the equivalents to these things would be exactly the same in IDW Cybertron, so you'd have to get a little creative with it, but these are just some ideas of jobs that would fit IDW Optimus' personality while still filling the niche of "not a cop" for people who are just that opposed to it.

Though I think the revulsion against coptimus is annoying in general tbh because IDW is already a continuity that rejects the idea of easily defined good/evil people or groups. It feels like people really want Optimus to be a good person in a very sanitized and academically approved way, so he has to be nice and squeaky clean but also like, a perfect leftist who knows theory and holds the most progressive opinions on every single issue....

There is no room for the idea that good people join bad institutions, there's no room for the idea that the reason people think cops are good guys who help people is bc of the government propaganda everything is saturated with. Hell there's even later issues of the Optimus Prime series by John Barber where Optimus like, MULTIPLE FUCKING TIMES, is shown in flashbacks grappling with the fact that he as a cop/Zeta's regime that he works for might not actually be improving society like they say they are, and dealing with the fact that he feels more like a lesser evil compared to the Decepticons (perhaps not "lesser" at all).

It's like there's this idea in fandom of like, fictional media and opinions on media having to strictly adhere to progressive ideals at all times. So people just go "cops bad, this character is a cop, therefore they suck" without being willing to engage with the idea of like. IDW OP is born wanting to fight injustice and protect people -> a good way to protect people is to fight the people who are hurting them and committing crimes -> surely following the law is a reliable moral code to guide him in this -> becomes a cop because he's been indoctrinated into a society (much like our own) where he was told that the state/the law exist to protect the people and being a cop means you get to fight bad guys that hurt people. There's really so many interesting concepts there that could be (and CANONICALLY IS) explored about how good, well-intentioned people can be led to harmful actions simply because they have been fed the idea that the things they're doing are good/helpful/noble. Which is especially important for a character like Optimus, I think, who has a cultural icon status as The Irrefutable and Perfect Good, so it's really important actually to use IDW Optimus as an example of how even the most noble people you know have held problematic beliefs or done bad things at some point in their life. You know, because no one is born perfect and ideologically pure, and in fact society is constructed in exactly a manner to make people drink the kool-aid and believe that the systems designed to hurt them/others are just a normal, if flawed, society.

I mean the writing in IDW literally has Optimus deal directly and indirectly with the harm he's done as a cop and how people don't/didn't trust him because of that. I don't know what the fuck else this fandom wants if the source material literally saying "OP realizes that cops suck and he hurt people and earned their disdain by doing the things he did" doesn't stop them from going EW cop bastard sucks and is the worst Optimus. Like the narrative barely stops short of outright saying ACAB and Optimus himself would agree with this sentiment.

At that point, the collective fandom beef with IDW OP isn't because he's a cop and the narrative didn't do enough to condemn that. The problem is literally just that people don't read and don't care

TLDR: Consider the fact that good people can do bad things sometimes especially when living from birth in a corrupt society that thoroughly disguises its vices/oppressive structures as completely normal parts of existence

Cryptid batfamily, but the world starts learning about the 'vigilantes' in Gotham via a school project that they think is some sort of Analog horror or ARG. Like it gets incredibly popular because wow the CGI and videos are really good? Can you imagine if you had to worry about seemingly immortal killer clowns and undead bird creatures running around? Wow wouldn't that be crazy. And the lore is so fun too? Like there's the big shadow creature who steals away children who stay out too late? Some sort of crocodile man living in the sewers? A swamp that sometimes revives the dead? Like damn, what a cool series.

But then, then other heroes start to emerge around the world. People with super-speed, ancient warriors, honest to god aliens and magic. Which makes people start to wonder, even if it's just in the back of their minds, What if it's all true?

to answer your question: I'm glad the cornbread parallel set you on your parallel-finding path because that was 100000% intentional. pretty much all the parallels in season 4 were written with intention. I don't remember exactly where it happened, but sometime in season 3 I had the realization that Sam and Damien were actually a lot more alike than I had initially conceived.

you are spot-on with your analysis of internal vs. external and the fact that they don't know how to be people and the control aspect! they both seek control, sometimes over all else. when confronted with something difficult, Mark wants to run away and both Sam and Damien are like "well, surely, I can grip so tightly to this problem that I can change it, who cares if I make myself and everyone I care about miserable in the process". neither of them really believe they're capable of being loved - Damien because it's never real and Sam because if she loves and is loved in return, she'll surely destroy it - so when they fall in love they, uh, behave badly.

so of COURSE a huge piece of the parallel comes from the fact that Damien fell in love with Mark and, uh, he was not supposed to do that. when the idea to have Damien kidnap Mark crystallized (after Charlie suggested Damien break Mark out of The AM, an idea I loved), he was supposed to be a sort of dark mirror for Mark and a way to explore what Mark had gone through in The AM/a way for Mark to get some of his own agency back by ultimately taking the reins from Damien. and he still was those things, but when we sat down and recorded a first take of episode 303, the chemistry just popped OFF. we finished that first take and the three of us looked at each other and were like "uh....I guess we're going in this direction now?" so the way in which Damien falls in love with Mark and how that complicates the Sam and Mark of it all, and what both Sam and Damien are looking for in Mark and vice versa...a lot of that came from the natural chemistry between Andrew and Charlie.

Tony doesn't tell the Avengers about Peter's secret identity, but Peter starts coming over constantly and chilling around the tower, helping Tony in his workshop or eating dinner with everyone.

Since Tony is weirdly secretive about who the kid is, and the fact that Spider-Man is still a small unknown (presumably adult) hero who isn't on any Avengers radars, they all collectively come to the conclusion that he's Tony's illegitimate child.

Tony: Okay fine. He's actually Spider-Man. I didn't wanna tell anyone cause the Accords were still fishy, but everything should be good now. Anyways, he really wants to train with you guys so you'd have to know eventually

Steve: That guy in Queens who helps bring in peoples' groceries?

Tony: Well, yeah—listen, he's like 14 and he just got his powers. I'm not exactly sending him to fight armed terrorists yet. He'll grow into it, but trust me, there's potential. I'm kind of like his mentor

Bruce: Yeah we'll all help out from now on

Natasha: Don't take too much responsibility for the boy

Tony: Thanks for the vote of confidence guys. Whatever, now that you all know he'll be hounding you all day for advice anyways. Good luck with that. Friday tell Pete to come down here, the Avengers are gonna train with him

Tony leaves them all, snickering to himself as loud footsteps come crashing down the hallway. If they didn't know any better they'd say several elephants were tripping down the stairs. Then, the doors burst open, Peter's mouth already running a mile-a-minute.

Peter: Really, you guys know, you guys will teach me? Can I use the shield, Ms. Romanoff can you show me how to kick, show me with Mr. Barton, or, or Mr. Rogers. I can take down someone bigger than me, I'm actually really strong. Wanna see? Why are we in Bruce's lab, is that my first lesson! Can I touch this? What are you making here, how long has this been distilling, what about my webs, have you ever seen my webs? I did them myself, but I bet we could make them even better, watch out it's really sticky—

Steve ends up with webs all over his face, several of Bruce's beakers broken from the white spray, one reacting poorly with it and exploding all over Clint and Natasha. Bruce immediately shoves them into the decontamination shower, leaving them as two drenched rats wearing skin-tight combat gear. Natasha is already fuming at the thought of trying to peel it off.

Peter: I'm really sorry, I didn't know it was on ricochet... the splitter webs were just 'cause I panicked

Steve: This is why I told you all to leave it be.

Honestly, although Cobra lacks warmth and tact and should have done better to understand them as people, you can totally see why he's emotionally switched off for Nani and focused entirely on Lilo and her welfare if you see things from his POV and pretend you know nothing about how Lilo and Nani really are.

You're the guy who gets called in when nothing else has worked and a kids welfare is seriously on the line. Not a great job, but you care enough about kids to do it.

The first meeting you have with the caretaker of your current child is her kicking your car and calling you a pejorative (she totally would have said something stronger than 'stupid head' if it hadn't been Disney) because she's running home where she's left that child alone. You arrive and she's locked out and yelling threats at the child, but quickly pretends she hasn't been when she's being watched.

There's crap everywhere outside and inside the home. The stove is on and overflowing and noxious. The child clearly has a script rehearsed and the moment she does off script the guardian hushes her up. The child is clearly not socially well adjusted, which doesn't seem to be being worked on and has resulted in her fighting and biting (there's no way he didn't later learn about that) other children not to mention the 'voodoo'.

Then the guardian loses her job and they weren't doing financially great before (can't even afford a real doll for Lilo) and when you go to check up on that and see she's job hunting right away oh yeah, that's totally an alien. Ok, that's not your job any more and you know aliens can integrate just fine but this one is violent and the kid is attached to it, it's another safety risk, but you give them all further chances to show Lilo is going to be ok because you do still believe it can be done.

Except she's frequently wandering around alone, the alien almost kills her at some point and she's left alone whilst the house is being attacked (by more aliens whilst more dangerous stuff happens!) and is on fire.

Like yeah, that's all he's seen and it sure looks like Lilo is not safe with Nani (at least see the moment) at all.

And yet at the end he accepts that Nani will have the support she needs now and keep doing her best and Lilo will be safe, so he keeps them together because that's also part of his job and becomes another part of the support system. But oh boy, did it look terrible there for a long while.

On a surface level, while Tenna is pretty pathetic as a washed-up out-of-touch representation of an outdated technology, he’s still the big boss God-King of TV World. While Spamton is a garbage-dwelling wreck ontologically doomed to a life of impossible ambitions and unavoidable failures that has alienated anyone who has ever cared about him and therefore should be objectively infinitely more pathetic… but also Tenna’s insecurities about his own irrelevance means he feels honestly resentful and jealous of Spamton, the representation of the most obnoxious and least respected aspect of the Internet, and I think that feeling inadequate compared to Spamton to any meaningful degree probably turns Tenna into the Pathetic-ness Singularity.

We finally did it. We slipped the surly bonds of Earth to step among the stars. It took over two decades of research, billions of dollars of taxpayers money, and almost every country on the planet working in tandem, but after the International Space Coalition was founded it was almost effortless.

Faster than Light travel was accomplished almost on accident. Just the right ratios of radioactive material and an ‘ever so slight’ gravitational anomaly generator was all it took. To keep the population safe from any possible drawbacks, the first launch of the FTL drive, or Warp, was conducted at Tranquility Base on the moon. Either that was minimum safe distance or there wasn’t any, so it was decided to just roll the dice. The Angel was built there, the ship that would go further than any before it. The drive was set for Alpha Centauri, the big red button was pressed, and off they went, 300 crew members, going faster than anyone else in the history of mankind.

After 4 months, 319 ‘people’ came back. The extra 19 individuals wore special thermal suits to keep their body temperatures stable, and each had scaled skin with varying hues of greens and grays, with elongated prehensile tails. Their eyes were almost solid black, save for some red around the edges. Their hands were like a chameleon’s with only 3 fingers each. If it hadn’t been for a heads up from the Angel’s captain, the first words out of the welcoming party mouth would’ve been “they’re lizards!” Honestly the only thing they had in common with us was that they were bipedal.

Apparently the people of the ‘Alpha System’ as we called it, the Quintins, were just as surprised to see us as we were them. 2 ambassadors, 7 scientists, 10 military escorts, and a partridge in a pear tree came with them back to Earth. They just had to see it, after hearing stories of home from the crew aboard The Angel. They had to see how a world so full of dangers, from predators to the sheer deadly climates, could have allowed such a species as humans to exist let alone thrive and advance far enough to get off the ground.

The surprises didn’t stop there either, as if finding out WE ARE NOT ALONE wasn’t a big enough shock to the human race. The Quintins weren’t the only species out there, they were in fact only one people in a collective, a Grand Assembly of Intelligent Lifeforms (it sounded longer in Quin tongue but they brought auto translators) or The GAIL, and the Human race was immediately eligible for probational membership. Developing the WARP capabilities was what sealed it. Faster than Light travel was the first prerequisite for joining the GAIL. The second was a planetary inspection, and since the Quintins were our first contact, who better? It was time to meet the neighbors for the human race.

That was 50 years ago. Now the Human Race were full fledged members of The GAIL, and the International Space Coalition was renamed into simply the Terran Academy, putting out graduates of every field imaginable. We had an entire fleet of WARP enabled ships, spreading human explorers into the depths of space.

The only problem these days were the rumors. 50 years of interaction with alien species had made one thing clear to the rest of the universe at large:

Their planet is completely unstable

Their bodies are unimaginably fragile while simultaneously unbreakable

They claim not to have a hive mind but nobody believes that for a second

They seem to ‘pack bond’ outside their own species

They’ll eat anything (maybe even you)

Hi! I've always been fascinated with people who can speak a lot of languages. How about Batfam x Brother Reader (not a vigilante) who somehow has the gift of omnilingualism (can speak all languages ever created)? Whenever they or the Justice League or any of the hero teams need help with an ancient language that nobody speaks or has even heard of, they call him. And every time he identifies the language and translates it perfectly, everyone is impressed by his ability, and jealous of Bruce for having a son like that. Superman loves talking to him in Kryptonese, Wonder Woman speaks to him in ancient Greek, Damian in Arabic, Dick in Romani, Cass in sign language.

That sounds like a cool power, but I know my brain would explode from it. I only know my native language and English and I'm glad to be European for once. Also, lets pretend that this GIF represents all languages. I had an exam the day I started writing this and couldn't find anything better. Also, yes, I emerged from the exam hell.

And yes, this is short, but honestly, this is sitting way too long in my drafts. Also, a quick edit in, it's not my best work, but I just needed to get it out.

Summary: (Y/N) has one hell of a power.

Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne glanced at one another as they tried to decipher what this unearthly language might be. It is something alien, but not even Clark could figure out what it might be. So they were in a shit position. J'onn J'onzz tried as well, but the trio of men were just at a loss for words and comprehension. But, they did have a trick up their sleeve.

Bruce's youngest son, who is not a vigilante, but has an immensely cool power. Being able to speak every language ever created. Human, alien, animal... If it's a language, (Y/N) will speak it, understand and translate it for you. For a fee of his choice of course. And as much as he loves his family, including the Justice League, there is a certain inconvenience in dropping everything in order to help translate and/or speak something.

"Bruce, you should call (Y/N). Now. Because the 3 of us are getting nowhere with... These hieroglyphics. Because this makes no sense, " Clark muttered, rubbing his chin.

Bruce stepped to the side and called his son, having to turn away as he noticed a sleepy voice over the line. And Bruce had to throw in a few bribes, such as a new book, newer sneakers and fast food for a whole week. Yes, (Y/N) can throw wagers like that.

"He will be in within 10 minutes," Bruce came back to the Martian and Superman.

And just on the dot, (Y/N) came in 10 minutes later, a mug of coffee in his hand, clothes messy and hair that looked liked he just rolled out of bed.

"Before I start, you 3 realize that it's 2am back in Gotham?" (Y/N) asks before raising the mug to his lips.

"No (Y/N), sorry." Clark put his hand on (Y/N)'s shoulder and gently led him to the desk where the document was.

(Y/N) took a look at it and started translating it for the trio. He wrote it down on a pad of paper and then handing it to Bruce.

"Don't worry about, they didn't write about anything dangerous. Just some trades and what not. Now, excuse me, I'm going back home. And I expect my payment in the next, 5 business days. Have fun dad. And of course, bye uncle Clark and J'onzz," (Y/N) waved before he went back to the Zeta Tubes and being taken back to the Batcave.

"Bruce, I am beyond jealous," Clark commented as he turned to Bruce, who simply let out a the infamous Bat smirk.

(Y/N) was called in, yet again. But this time, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Flash needed him. And it was, yet again, the middle of the night. What about now? An ancient language, a human one, that no one has ever even heard of. And it is a human one. (Y/N) came in through the Zeta tubes again, in his PJs, hair sticking out in every way and his he would yawn every few minutes.

"What is it now?" (Y/N) asked as he walked up to the table. "Now it's 4am in Gotham. And I have to get up at 7am. And you 3 couldn't wait to, oh I don't know, call?" (Y/N) grumbled as he rubbed his eyes, approaching the table to look at the document.

"Jesus Christ, this is like..." He leaned forward, squinting since he forgot his glasses in a hurry. "This seems to be from South America, my guess would be Brazil... And it's very harmless. May I know why you were so insistent I get here?"

"We found it with the League of Light. We did a raid and found this. We were worried," Wonder Woman explained and (Y/N) sighed.

"Jesus Christ, you all panic over nothing. It has not... Allusions to the League of Light or their shit. But I'll translate it for you, so you can panic even more... Also, my payment is going through B. But now, I'm going to bed. And I swear to God, I'm going to charge actual fucking money, cause this is getting out of hand." He turned on his heel and walked back to the Zeta tubes, ready to go back to bed and sleep. He might start charging money. 10k per minute.

(Y/N) was sitting in the Batcave, reading over an old ass language that he was asked to translate.

"How's the translation going along?" Superman asks in Kryptonese as he walks over, somehow managing to get into the Batcave.

"Just started. Should have it done in about 2 hours. Also, for the record, I'm charging now. With money. 10k per hour."

Clark laughed at that, enjoying the banter they have as an uncle and nephew.

"Oh don't be so dramatic. We may call on you often because you are the only one who can help us. Omnilingualism is a rare power."

"It may be a rare power, but you people call on me all the time. It's starting to get annoying. Maybe I'll force dad to put me on a payroll or something like that." (Y/N) put the papers off to the side and turned to look at his uncle.

"So, what brings you here?" (Y/N) pushed his glasses up on the bridge of his nose.

"I was looking for Bruce. There is some new information about a case we've been working on. But I can't tell if he's here or not," Clark glanced around the cave, trying to figure out if Bruce was here or not.

"He's not here. He's at Wayne Enterprises. It's the daylight after all and all the major criminals are sleeping and he has to do stuff as the CEO after all," (Y/N) explained to Clark who nodded. "Are you having a day off?" (Y/N) added and Clark nodded.

"I have taken a day off and have decided to look into our case," Clark said as he moved around the cave, glancing around.

"Where's the car?"

"The Batmobile is getting a check. Got to make sure that it works," (Y/N) answered and Clark hummed and then nodded.
