I was thinking about "real head" Dante yesterday and about the fact that we don't know basically anything about them...

When I first started Limbus I thought it was odd to keep Dante's gender hidden. Look at him! He's obviously a guy right? 🤔

But actually PM is really respectful in how they draw their female characters. In their uniforms especially they don't show off their "feminine curves" nearly at all. Even beautiful Rodion isn't showing anything off and Outis looks the same as the men if you hide her face.

So yeah, I reconsidered!! Dante could totally turn out to be a woman if they wanted!!! Here's a self indulgent fem presenting Dante design!

Dear EPIC the musical fandom:

I see you've all started to look at the Mycenaean context for the Trojan War and Odysseus' subsequent homecoming! This is a good thing and your fanart is also stunning. However, I've noticed that you all seem to put the warriors in variations of the Dendra panoply.

(For anyone unfamiliar, this is the aforementioned armour)

Whilst this is Mycenaean armour, it is dated to the 1400s BCE and probably fell out of use in the early 1300s BCE. The Trojan War is dated (if it occured) to 1180 BCE. Thus, this style of armour wouldn't have been used as it just wasn't made anymore. The only character whose armour in the Homeric epics at all resembles the Dendra panoply is Menalaus. His armour is so unusual Homer takes a good paragraph and a half to describe it, compared to the three to four lines anyone else's armour gets.

Why do I mention this? Because it's likely that the Homeric heroes' armour looked more like that found on the Warrior Vase from around 1200-1100 BCE, which puts it much much closer to Troy than the Dendra panoply.

(This is the Warrior Vase. It was found in the citadel of Mycenae.)

As you can see, these warriors wear very different armour, including leather scale mail and an early form of a pteruges (the leather strip skirt looking thing). Their helmets also include a plume and a horn on the front. Boar tusk helmets, which I also often see used in fanart, were also mostly out of use by the 1100s BCE. Before you start saying "But Odysseus explicitly had one in the Iliad!" I am aware. However Odysseus' one is an heirloom passed down from his grandfather, who got it from someone else older than him. Most soldiers would've had something similar to the Warrior Vase in the Trojan War period.

Anyhow, that concludes my attempt to be helpful with my Classics education!
