Class 12 Basic Properties of Electric Charge Notes for Students
Introduction:
Electric charge is a fundamental property of matter that causes it to experience a force when placed in an electromagnetic field. Understanding the basic properties of electric charge is crucial for students preparing for board exams, JEE, and IIT entrance exams. This study material provides an in-depth exploration of these properties, ensuring a solid foundation for further study in physics.
Tumblr media
Key Properties of Electric Charge
1. Quantization of Charge
Electric charge is quantized, meaning it exists in discrete amounts rather than a continuous range. The fundamental unit of charge is the charge of an electron (e) or proton (+e), where e = 1.6 × 10^-19 coulombs.
All charges are integral multiples of this elementary charge, i.e., Q = n × e, where n is an integer.
2. Conservation of Charge
The total electric charge in an isolated system remains constant over time. This is known as the conservation of charge.
During any physical process, the total charge before and after the process remains the same, indicating that charge cannot be created or destroyed.
3. Additivity of Charge
Electric charges can be added algebraically. When two charges are combined, the total charge is the algebraic sum of the individual charges.
For example, if a system has charges Q1 and Q2, the total charge Q_total = Q1 + Q2.
4. Charge Invariance
The electric charge of a system does not change with velocity. This means that charge is invariant under relativistic transformations, unlike mass and energy.
5. Interaction Between Charges
Like charges repel each other, while unlike charges attract. This fundamental interaction is described by Coulomb's law, which states that the force (F) between two charges (Q1 and Q2) separated by a distance (r) is given by:
F = k⋅∣Q1⋅Q2/r^2
where k is Coulomb's constant (k ≈ 8.99 × 10^9 Nm^2/C^2).
Additional Concepts
1. Electric Field
An electric charge produces an electric field around it. The electric field (E) at a point is the force (F) experienced by a unit positive charge placed at that point:
E=F/Q
2. Conductors and Insulators
Conductors allow free movement of electric charge through them, while insulators do not. Metals are good conductors, whereas materials like rubber and glass are good insulators.
3. Coulomb's Law in Vector Form
The vector form of Coulomb's law provides both magnitude and direction of the force between two point charges:
F= k⋅Q1⋅Q2/ r^2. ^r
where ^r is the unit vector in the direction of the line joining the two charges.
Conclusion:
Understanding the basic properties of electric charge is essential for mastering concepts in electromagnetism and is foundational for advanced studies in physics. These properties, including quantization, conservation, additivity, and interaction, form the basis for analyzing electric fields, forces, and various phenomena in both theoretical and applied physics. For students preparing for board exams, JEE, and IIT, a strong grasp of these concepts is crucial for success.

✧ the elle woods study method: mindset makeover & foundation building ✧
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hey lovelies! 💗
omg, i'm literally bursting with excitement to start this transformative series with you all! we're going to dive deep into actually studying like elle woods, and all her study methods. it's going to change your academic life. (while keeping you fabulous, obviously!)
let's start with the most crucial element - the elle woods mindset. you know how elle went from being underestimated at harvard to graduating with honors? that transformation began in her mind, and that's exactly where we're starting too!
the core principles of the elle woods mindset (get ready to take notes!):
unwavering self-belief: elle's iconic "what, like it's hard?" attitude wasn't just cute - it was crucial
authenticity as your superpower: your unique perspective is your strength
resilience through positivity: turning every "you can't" into "watch me"
strategic determination: working smarter, not just harder
maintaining your essence: success shouldn't mean losing yourself
let me break down how to actually build this mindset (because theory without practice is like a perfect outfit without accessories - incomplete!):
mindset foundation building: • start a daily confidence journal (pink, obviously!) • write three daily affirmations • document your wins, no matter how small • reflect on challenges and how you overcame them
goal setting the elle way: • dream big (harvard law big!) • break down major goals into mini-milestones • create realistic timelines • identify potential obstacles and plan solutions • celebrate every achievement (even the tiny ones!)
your personal success toolkit: • a dedicated study planner (color-coded, elle would approve) • positive affirmation cards • vision board (mix academic and personal goals) • progress tracking system • reward system for reaching milestones
practical assignments for this week:
yes, i'm giving you all homework, because what's a lesson without doing homework? <3
mindset makeover tasks: • create your confidence corner (a designated study space that makes you feel powerful) • write your personal academic manifesto • identify and challenge three limiting beliefs • create a morning power routine
organization prep: • get your study essentials (cute but functional!) • set up your planning system • create a semester overview • design your ideal weekly schedule
community building: • find your study buddies (your personal warner hunting club, but for academics!) • join study groups • set up accountability partnerships • create a support system
elle's journey wasn't about memorizing legal terms - it was about believing she belonged in those hallowed halls while wearing her signature pink. you deserve to feel that same confidence in your academic journey. <3
advanced tips for the overachievers (because why not be extra?):
record yourself giving pep talks for tough days
create a study aesthetic that energizes you
develop personal success rituals
build a playlist that makes you feel powerful
photograph your progress for motivation
coming up in this series:
time management secrets
memory techniques that actually work
note-taking methods that slay
exam preparation strategies
self-care routines for academic success
group study dynamics
presentation skills
stress management
celebration strategies
and more of course <3
remember: elle woods didn't just survive harvard - she thrived while being unapologetically herself. that's our goal too! you're not just going to study better; you're going to build an academic approach that celebrates who you are.
homework time (but make it fun):
create your academic vision board
write your semester goals
design your ideal study schedule
set up your success tracking system
prepare your study space
xoxo, mindy
p.s. don't forget to reblog and follow for the complete series! we're building our own little academic sorority here! <3

Jonah's Enucleation
So this is going to be a long post. I apologize for that in advance. I've been sort of blowing up @talesfromtreatment's ask box since Sunday morning going through a hell of a rollercoaster with my dog. (Again, sorry about that. Not sure if you read any of it, but if you haven't feel free to delete those messages and just read this post instead if you want to know what I've been using your ask box as a sounding board about for the last 48-ish hours.)
This all starts Saturday.
We have a Beagle/Jack Russell mix. His name is Jonah. He's around 8-ish years old and, tragically, a beagle with all that entails. He's a good dog - but he's got loud opinions and can't help himself around food or cat toys. He wears sweaters in the winter when it's cold. He has a favorite blanket. He's overweight but we've been working on it.
Tumblr media
Saturday morning, when we woke up, everything was normal. As the day went on, he started acting like he does on his bad pain days. He's had Lyme in the past and while he tests negative now, he has what I can only describe as flare ups. He'll get listless, go off his food, and just be miserable for a day before he perks up and is just fine the next day. We have prescription painkillers for if a flare up lasts particularly long or he's really uncomfortable. But this looked like a mild one, all things considered.
Saturday evening, when I let him out for the night, I noticed a little bit of odd behavior. He walked straight into the screen door on his way back in. "Huh, that's odd." I thought. But it was dark out, and the screen door was in a different spot than usual because of some ground shifting after our recent cold snap - I wasn't able to open it all the way like I usually do. He didn't seem to find his treat as quickly as usual either. But I figured, he's getting older. Maybe his vision's going a little. He already has his annual scheduled in March - I'll bring it up with his vet then.
I didn't get a chance.
Sunday morning, when we woke up, he was blind. In the short span of 24 hours, he'd completely lost his vision.
We knew something was wrong. We checked the hours for our local animal urgent care, and resolved to take him in the second they opened.
And once they had, we loaded him and his favorite blanket up in the car, and drove straight there. There was another emergency ahead of us. The clinic was busy. Not surprising - it was the only place within an hour's drive that was open today. Everyone with an urgent problem would be going there today. Still, we weren't waiting very long before they brought us back to one of their two exam rooms and started intake.
We didn't wait long for the vet either.
It's a vet we know. She's saved our cat's life before. (Some of you may remember Lily, if you've been following me for a long time. We had to do signal boost fundraising for her years back after a near death experience.) We trust her implicitly. She looks over Jonah and confirms our suspicions. He's completely blind. But why he's suddenly gone blind is what we're there to find out.
After examining him, she suspects glaucoma. It wasn't something I even knew dogs could get. On the way there, I'd been running through the worst fears I could think of. Had his thyroid medication tipped him the other way into hyperthyroidism? Had we missed diabetes? Was it a brain tumor?
We were prepared for a lot of things. Glaucoma sounded easy! My mom has borderline glaucoma! Just eye drops to control his pressure and keep up with his annuals, and he'll be fine, right?
So back to the waiting room we went while they started his tests. We requested a comprehensive blood panel to rule out any other possibilities, which the vet agreed to do in addition to his eye pressure check and a test to check his moisture levels in his eyes as well.
We wait for a bit, they bring him back out, and we get his test results. Blood panel looks good. Eyes are a tiny bit on the dry end of normal range. But his eye pressure is through the roof. Glaucoma confirmed. No big! We just need to get his eye pressure down and then we can get him on maintenance drops and follow up with our regular vet.
Except that isn't how it happens.
He gets his first round of drops. We wait thirty minutes. He gets a second round, because his pressure was really high, another thirty minutes. They retest. The pressure in his right eye is down. But his left eye has continued to climb. We do another couple rounds of drops. Another retest. His right eye has stabilized. His left eye has not. They give him a narcotic for the pain. We try another medication - one that the vet didn't want to use because it's extremely uncomfortable for the dogs but at this point we need to get this under control. Drops every fifteen minutes. Waiting. Agonizing. We talk about next steps. The vet consults with a specialist in a larger city. Jonah has calmed thanks to the narcotic and is laying on his blanket on the floor of the waiting room.
Tumblr media
After nearly six hours at animal urgent care, the pressure in his right eye finally comes down. It's still high, but the vet doesn't want to keep him any longer. We're discharged with a steroid to control the inflammation and hopefully manage the pain, an antibiotic because we just spent nearly six hours fussing with his eyes and don't want them infected, and the drops to control his eye pressure. We're given strict instructions to follow up with our regular vet the next day and have his pressure retested as soon as we're able.
Exhausted, we bring our extremely drugged dog home. He pees in the front yard and spends the rest of the evening on his blanket on the couch. I give him his first dose of medication without incident. Then his second. Mom goes to bed. I promise to wake her if I need help giving him his third dose.
Tumblr media
He sleeps on the couch. Our cat joined him at some point between his third dose and the time I came up for his fourth. His narcotics are starting to wear off now. He cries when I go to gently pull his eyelid back to medicate his left eye. His eye looks worse. He's in pain. I feel bad but I know I have to do this and thankfully I manage on my own. He settles down and I go to bed, resolved to wake in four short hours for his next dose.
The next morning I wake up for his next dose of meds. Pressure drops then steroids. His eye hasn't improved. I start to worry. I'm afraid of what we'll find when we drop him off at the vet. Has his left eye continued to trend downwards or has it shot back up? We won't know until he gets tested. Our other dog has a grooming appointment. Mom leaves to take him to that. I stay home with Jonah. I call our vet and let them know what's going on. Ask if we can drop him off. The tech tells me the vet won't be in for another hour and she'll call me back as soon as she's talked to them.
Tumblr media
I lay down on the couch with Jonah and try to get a little more sleep. I wake up in an hours - he needs his antibiotic now. The vet calls and agrees to a drop off appointment. I drive him in with his blanket, all his medications, and the meal he hadn't eaten that morning. I let them know everything that's happened in the last 24 hours. He hasn't eaten or drank anything since the previous morning. I worry.
Mom gets home with our freshly groomed other dog. We talk about what we're going to do. We've stretch our budget thin paying for his urgent care visit the previous day. We know the next step is to remove the eye that we can't get under control - a $2,000-$3,000 surgery. Way out of our budget. But we don't want him to be in pain. We resolve that if his pressure has gone up again, we'll have him put to sleep rather than have him suffer any longer.
The waiting game starts again. A few hours later, we get the call. The vet retested his eyes three times. The right has completely stabilized. The left has shot up again. We're devastated. We know what's best for him. What has to be done. We let the vet know, and schedule to come to the office in three hours to see him across the rainbow bridge, after we've had time to inform His Boy who now lives two hours away with a family of his own.
We're all emotionally drained by this point. We've cried off and on. It's hard to talk about it without crying. The urgent care vet calls us to see how he's doing and we tell her the bad news.
Monday afternoon, we drive to the vet's office. We try not to break down into tears in the waiting room, knowing what's coming. Knowing we'll be led into the quiet Goodbye Room they have, with its nice couch and soft pastel walls and privacy.
We get called up to the tech and are met with a question.
"If money weren't a problem, what would you do?" I reply without thinking. "Get rid of the damn eye." She tells us that there's another option. There's a friend of the office who offers financial assistance for cases like ours. Young, otherwise healthy animals with decent prognoses whose owners just can't afford the treatment they need. She only asks what we can afford to pay, and she'll pay the rest. No need to repay her. We're overcome. There's the smallest glint of hope.
We ask when we'd have to pay, because we'd just tapped everything we had for his urgent care appointment. She offers to talk to the vet. The vet agrees. We're clients in good standing who've proven again and again how much we care for our pets. The entire office hated what was about to happen because we just couldn't afford a treatment. For us, they'll defer payment until our next check comes in.
Overcome, we schedule the surgery. Jonah is brought out to us, now on painkillers and in significantly better spirits. (Although some of that may be attributed to a dirty secret they shared with us. One of the girls in the office had a birthday that day, you see. And, thinking it was his final day, they'd spoiled him fucking rotten. He may have diarrhea tonight, the tech says apologetically. We just laugh.)
On February 4th, Jonah's left eye will be removed. His right eye will remain. He'll be blind for the rest of his life. But he'll be alive and out of pain and that was always the goal we were aiming for. We still have a heavy financial burden, but he's worth it. He's so, so worth it. We're going to have so many more years to enjoy him and all his tragically Beagle crimes.

“This shit so good like it should be illegal” you said to yourself after discretely taking a puff out of the pre-rolls connie left for you, feet over the arm of the huge chair that held you inside of the common rooms of your college. Notebooks of all colors displayed messily along the table in front of you, filled with doodles of the brain, and respiratory system. You were trying to prepare yourself for your pre-med exam in two days, but you couldn’t help think about him.. How he made you touch the back-board of his bed like you was a free throw, how he spent so much time with you that you found yourself…“Little Miss Scholar” using all his lingo, how his ex-girlfriend claimed he lied when he told u he was single. The way his hands slid in between your thighs, fitting like a puzzle piece that you never knew was missing. How he always said “a sweet girl like you shouldn’t know how to fuck like this cus you fuck me like a porn star.. u sure that I’m ya only one?” How he intertwined his longer tattooed fingers with your own freshly polished ones, and squeezed tighter as he heard the mumbles of your “friends” asking “how the fuck he know her home-body ass?” How he left you in shambles everytime his tongue grazed against your clit, shutting your mouth with his hand when you got too loud in the dorms.
You felt as if your pen went dry because of your day dreaming, you scribbled on the paper attempting to gain some ink flow, but managed to get lost in your thoughts again..
The thoughts about him making you squirt, leaving the juices on his pretty white tee shirt, the same night he convinced you to make a sex tape cus he strokes himself to the bloopers..How your velvety walls clenched around his pink tip as a reward, almost as if they were saying “you lasted long babe you’re a trooper.” Gripping him, forcing him to cum inside you.. “Don’t pull out my love, make me proud n thug it out” you would whisper in his ear, running butterfly kisses along his temple. How he then massaged your clit, squeezing the fat of your thighs, while pussy drunk, muttering about how you’re a keeper..But not just because of how you fucked him senseless considering you didn’t partake in those activities, but because it was never hard to read him, to understand him. He wasn’t like everyone else, and you realized this when you didn’t automatically dislike him, it makes you feel even more confident in your relationship knowing how he always says “Baby i need ya” and not in sexual ways. He made it known that he cared about you because he changed his ways so you can mold into him, gave you room to grow and de-cluttered himself so you could use him as extra space when you needed it, when you were stressed and the burden was too much. How he always thought of you and made it obvious in everything that he did even when he didn’t realize it.
“Damn…” you thought wrapping up your daydream realizing that an hour more than passed. The suns rays danced through the huge windows, slightly blinding you almost as if it was a punishment for getting yourself distracted. Eyes peering at the still notebooks below you, waiting to be used, basically taking up dust because of your negligence. The red water bottle resting in your lap was snatched up as you took sips, ignoring the obnoxious sound of the doors opening in the comms, but off of instinct, you still looked up and made eye contact with the tall man who stood in front of the sun..As if he became your sun for a second, and as he came closer, you noticed the buzz-cut and relaxed, resting the water bottle on the table, trying to stop the smile that crept onto your face…
“Hey, can I come over? Is it okay if I stop by n see u later?”……….

Hello! May i have a request with Jade and the reader who is experienced on hiking and camping.
When reader found out that there is something relate with camping or mountain expedition club (the Mountain Appreciation Club) they immediately wanna join the club.
Jade might surprise (or amused) on how well prepared they were and reader explaining that they were one of the member hikers as a 'Gadget Hiker' and ever went to Appalachian Mountain that is one of a dangerous mountain when at night.
I hope you like the idea and have a good day! 💞
Fun Fact! .....mmm, Jade go brr.
He's such an interesting character to me because he plays his cards so close to his chest. Like, we get why Azul is the way he is because we know his backstory. Floyd is pretty much an open book. But Jade? He's just a silly guy who keeps his thoughts to himself. But is still just as terrifying as his twin!
So fun!
Anyway, I love the request, and I hope I do it justice here!
I got a lil carried away :/
╔═*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*═╗
Being bored was something you never thought would happen in this world. There was far too much for you to do, after all! You had to survive, for one thing. You had to help Crowley with his work! You had to clean on campus and fix up Ramshackle the best you could! You had to study for classes that you couldn't even take exams for half the time due to your lack of magic! You had to make sure Grim didn't fail his classes, because if he failed, you would, too! You had to help other students with their emotional issues! You had to-
But after some time, the distress and anxiety it all caused you to think about became...rather mundane. The worry of what might happen and what tomorrow might bring didn't seem so terrifying to think of. It had become your norm, after a while. You weren't too sure if it was a necessarily good or bad thing, but at least you weren't constantly burnt-out and an anxious mess!
With this newfound inner peace, however, came the inevitable "boredom". Or something like it. The craving for something new.
Or something reminiscent.
Walking out of Alchemy class after a particularly rough day, you hoisted Grim up onto your shoulders- as became the norm, since his stubby legs couldn't keep up with your gait- and began the trek back to Ramshackle.
But something caught your eye as you passed by the main corridor of the building. A cork-board with many different posters and papers on it that you couldn't even see the board underneath it anymore. Some of the papers were pinned with the same tack, some were stacked up so tightly that they fell to the ground in a cluster of assorted papers.
There were a variety of things to catch your eye on there- job advertisements, offerings for contracts, odd jobs to do around school, study tips, tutoring help, library hours, all sorts of things that would pertain to students at NRC.
But the one that caught your eye most was a club poster. It wasn't very good, by any means. A plain white background with basic pictures of mushrooms, trees, and fauna placed carefully around the print in the center of the page.
"Mountain Lover's Club
Meets at 5'oclock every Wednesday, Room 2-B"
There were no names signed on the paper to show who owned the club, nor the other members in it, but the word "mountain" was enough to send a delighted chill up your spine.
The intense memories of your old world, of the birds in the trees, the sound of wind rushing through bushes and water running nearby, of the feeling of rocks underneath your feet and rough tree bark scraping across your hands flew through your mind, and you stared at the paper for a minute longer than you should have.
"Oi, Hench-human!" Grim yowled, smacking his paw across your face (gently, of course, and without his claws out) to get your attention "What're you staring at that for? I'm hungry!"
"Hm?" Jolted out of your thoughts, you glanced to Grim with an absentminded smile "Oh, yeah, sorry about that. Let's get back home," as an afterthought, you glanced at the paper one last time, memorizing the time and room number before continuing on your trek "And if you ever hit me again, Grim, you're going to have to sleep on the floor."
𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊
"Room 2-B, 2-B, 2-B," You repeated under your breath like a mantra, walking through the halls of the main building an hour after dropping off Grim at the dorm. It felt odd to be in here after class, you thought to yourself. It didn't seem like the same place without a horde of students rushing to their next classes, or idly standing in the hallway taking up space.
Of course, there were other clubs meeting in this building, and occasionally one or two students would pass by you, or you would walk by a room with several students quietly chatting inside, but even so. It still felt empty.
You crossed your arms together, peering at every room's door, looking for the right number combination. Eventually, you stumbled onto lucky Room 2-B! The wooden door was open slightly ajar, so you knocked quietly on it before pushing it open the rest of the way, stepping inside.
It was a classroom you've never been in before, but looked to be something relating to math, given the half-erased equations up on the chalkboard. Chairs and desks were pushed neatly to the walls of the room to allow for more floor space, and there were a stack of textbooks underneath one of the desks. Something that wasn't part of the classroom, you could guess, was the folding table set up in the middle of the room. Set on top of it was a cage, of sorts, made up of glass.
"Hello?" You called out, wincing at how loud your voice sounded in the empty room. Huh. No one was here. But this was the right room, you were sure of it. Maybe the group went out to get something and would be back soon? Either way, you could afford to spare a few minutes waiting on them.
So you curiously stepped forward, towards the table, leaning down a bit to properly look at the cage. A terrarium, you knew by looking more closely at it. Inside was a pile of loose, fluffy dirt, and on the table beside it, laying on a towel, were small containers. Some were filled with more of the dirt, one had different colored moss, one had what looked to be seeds in it, and one (with the lid tightly firm on it) held a mess of squiggling insects that looked similar to the ones on your world, but too different to be exact.
The sound of footsteps, light on the floor, could just be faintly heard before someone entered the room. Before you could turn around, you heard them ask "Can I help you?"
To say you were frightened after turning to face the person would be an understatement. To say you almost had a heart attack would also be an understatement.
You turned, and for a moment, you got a flash of when you had last met this man. Sharp teeth, sharp claws, a predatory look in his eyes as he twirled around your group like a cat playing with his food.
He stared at you, baring his teeth in a sadistic grin, his brother beside him mimicking the same expression.
"Now, now, it wouldn't do for you to accomplish your task so easily now, would it~?"
You let out a breath, taking an instinctive step back. Which, unfortunately for you, was right smack into the table behind you.
Jade's eyes grew wide as the polite, forced smile left his lips, and he moved far too quickly for someone of his size, darting not towards you, but for the objects behind you. He wedged himself between you and the table, grabbing onto the table itself with one hand, and steadying the terrarium and containers with his other arm; while propping you up so you wouldn't stumble any more.
"Careful!" He hissed, as you practically shoved yourself off of him and moved closer to the door.
You tried to catch your breath- it all happened within a few seconds of him coming into the room, and frankly, you didn't have the mental fortitude to process it all as fast as it occurred. Lifting up a hand to signal for him to give you a minute (not that it mattered much anyway, since his back was still to you and his attention on the table), you steadied yourself and took the opportunity to examine the situation.
Jade Leech, one of the twins working with Azul, hunched his long figure over the table, his hands darting between containers to check their contents. The last time you saw him was not just when he and his brother were stopping you from reaching the museum during your contract, but when Azul had overblotted. Both of the times you saw them were more than enough to leave a lasting impression on you.
They were formidable in every sense of the word, and in any form they took. In the sea, they were creatures who could squeeze you so tight you'd burst. Fast and deadly, predatory instincts ran rampant through their blood. On land, they were still just as intimidating, with powerful capabilities in magic and physical strength. Together, the twins were an unstoppable force. Even separate, they were immovable objects. With Azul and Floyd, after the incident was said and done with, you knew where you stood with them. Floyd was an open book- he had no qualms with sharing how he really felt, and although he did occasionally have ulterior motives, you knew that he was pretty straight-forward. Azul was standoffish after everything, most likely ashamed and insecure about his show of grand weakness and "cringe", as Floyd put it. Azul left you alone as long as you left him alone.
But Jade? Whoo, boy, that man was an enigma! He was silent, deadly, and just as cunning as Azul was. He was a man of few words, in most situations, and the thought of getting on his bad side was enough to make your stomach queasy.
Oh, well, best to try and get on his good side now, at least.
"I'm sorry- you just- scared the crap out of me," You began, finally able to regain the use of your voice.
Jade straightened himself up, deciding that the objects on his table were no longer in harm's way, and turned to you, a curious look in his eyes "I apologize, as well, I should have known better," He said softly, that same polite smile plastered on his face again.
Oh. You hadn't expected him to apologize. How....strange.
"Ahem, well, I guess we can put it behind us, then," You continued "Is this the room that the Mountain Lover's club meets in?" Please say no, please say I'm in the wrong room, please say no, please say no-
"Indeed it is," He responded with a gentle nod, his smile widening a bit "Do you have interest in mountains, by any chance, Prefect?"
Say no, say no! "I do," You idiot! "I was wondering what all this club does- are the rest of the members coming soon, or...?"
"Oh, no," Jade chuckled, crossing to the other side of the table and taking a seat busying his hands with building the terrarium, packing the soil down on the bottom "I'm afraid it's just myself at the moment. But as for what we- or shall I say, I- do...I hike in the mountains just off-campus and gather specimens I find interesting. Leaves, plants....seeds," He smiled and held up the container that had some small black seeds in it to demonstrate his point. As he sprinkled some of them into the soil, he continued "I also gather different species of wild fungi to experiment with, both in dishes and otherwise, as well as to grow in the Botanical Gardens on campus."
Glancing back up at you with a look that sent goosebumps crawling up your arms, he asked "If you're interested in joining, or, say...wish to understand the 'club' a bit more, then might I suggest joining me for an excursion tomorrow? I'll be spending all of the late afternoon and night looking for nocturnal flora- plants that you can only find during the nightly hours."
You wanted to say no. As much as you loved the mountains, and nature, and missed your home, you wanted to say no.
But the feeling of a cool breeze on your skin, the scent of the trees and flowers, even the itching feeling of unwanted bugs on your skin forced you to open your mouth and say:
"I'd love to."
Jade's teeth clacked together as he chuckled, the sharp things looking as if they might be ready to tear into your skin at any moment. "Wonderful. I'll meet you at the campus' exit tomorrow at...shall we say 5 o'clock? Most classes will be done by then, and it gives you a chance to get homework done." How thoughtful. As a hindsight, he added "And I do hope all of that contract nonsense is water under the bridge, to quote a land-dweller's saying, right?"
You swallowed thickly and forced a smile, flashing him a thumbs-up "Yup! Water under the bridge- I'll see you at 5 tomorrow, bye-" And with that less-than-graceful statement, you ran out of the room as quickly as you could and back to the safety of your own dorm.
𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊
At 4:45 in the afternoon the next day, you set out of your dorm, giving a tearful Grim a goodbye hug and pat. Grim was convinced you wouldn't come back alive. While you hoped otherwise, you couldn't say that you didn't think the same thing. As soon as you told Ace, Deuce, and Grim what you were planning on doing, the entire trio began yelling at you for being such an idiot...and then started mourning for your future demise at the hands of Jade Leech.
"All night, alone! In the secluded mountains! With HIM!" Ace yelled, practically tearing his hair out. As with Grim, you shared Ace's pain. But you needed some sort of connection to your homeworld, and if Jade could show you those mountains and help you establish that connection, then by Sevens, you would go up in the mountains with him!
After the boys finished their pre-funeral for you, you got to work on packing. It was fairly difficult, since you didn't have the privilege of having your old belongings here with you, but skipping out on a class and borrowing some money from Trey (with the promise of working at Sam's shop to pay him back) gave you the opportunity to buy some of the items you would need for the excursion. Bug spray, hiking boots, good pants, a jacket, hat, water, food supplies, sleeping bag (just in case), emergency supply kit, medicine....everything that you packed in your old bag back at home, you bought and packed then and there. Good thing you were used to the heavy backpack, or else you would most definitely be struggling to walk right now! As soon as you tugged that backpack on, all of the old muscles in your back that had been honed to hiking perfection perked right up, almost seeming overjoyed at being used again.
Already at the exit to the school's campus was none other than your new hiking buddy and potential murderer. When he saw you approaching, he made a show of checking the time on his watch "Prefect! You're five minutes earlier than the set time."
"So are you," You pointed out with a small smile.
Jade raised a brow, considering your point "Fair enough. Being early means being on time- being on time is considered being late for some."
"Very wise, Shakespeare." You nodded sarcastically.
"Who?"
"I, uh-" Shoot, new world, they didn't have Shakespeare here! "Nothing. Lead the way, Mister Leech."
Brushing aside your awkward blunder, Jade began to walk off of campus, his own backpack eerily similar to yours, you noticed "Now, during this trip, I will not be sharing any of my supplies unless it is under an extreme circumstance. You had time to prepare ahead, and I expect-"
"I know, I'm good," You interrupted him, holding up a hand as you jogged to walk next to him. You felt better already, more at home, as the two of you made your way to the nearest treeline. The rising slope of the mountain was enough to send an exhilarating rush through your veins.
"Oh, you are, are you?" Jade smirked "We shall see, Prefect, we shall see."
And see he did. The two of you began the trek up the mountain, taking the time to admire every bit and piece that nature had to offer on the way. When an unknown creature came into view, Jade was prepared to pull you back to safety, but was surprised to see you keep your distance, despite curiosity about the animal. When there was a pond, Jade expected you to immediately dunk your water bottle into the water to fill it back up, but was shocked to see you pull out a water purifying device to cleanse it of bacteria before filling up your bottle and offering him the use of the device, as well. Bug spray? You had some already. Bandaid to cover up that nasty-looking scrape from a rock? You had one already out of your bag. When it got dark? You pulled out a lantern of your own instead of mooching off of Jade's light.
"Prefect," He started after a few hours of hiking, his breath heavy from walking so long, but filled with a delighted energy nonetheless "Tell me, how did you know to bring all that you did? I expected to be covering for you left and right, but each time, you leave me in a state of utter confusion."
You laughed at this, pausing to look at an interesting bug perched on top of a branch eye-level to you "Ooh, well, I said that I liked mountains," You explained, catching back up with him "Back on my world, I was pretty into all this nature stuff. Hiking like this was enough of a thrill for me. I know what to pack like the back of my hand, and your world is similar enough to mine that my list of things to pack is still good."
As Jade stopped suddenly and squatted down to dig a peculiar-looking blue mushroom- one of the "nocturnal flora" that he was hoping to find, apparently- you leaned up against a tree.
"I even hiked up on the Appalachian trail way back when."
"The what now?" He asked, pulling out an empty container and gently placing the mushroom inside before locking it and stuffing it back into his bag. He stood up and began to walk again, with you alongside him.
"It's this mountain range back at home. It's considered suuuper dangerous if you don't know what you're doing." You smiled at the memory "There's a lot of things that can go wrong up there. You could get lost, trip and break a leg without getting found for a few days, tons of predators, venomous animals, you name it!" You sighed, closing your eyes for a second as you recalled the feeling you had of traveling that path "Oh, but it was so beautiful..."
Jade was quiet for a moment, and you glanced back over to him to see what if he had wandered off or something. But he was still next to you, as silent as ever. But he was just watching you with a small smile on his face. Not the same smile that gave you the willies, that reminded you of a killer ready to eat his next meal. But one that was a little softer around the edges, one more...genuine.
"What are you looking at?" You asked with a snort, lightly hitting his arm. Imagine if Ace were here to see you hit Jade Leech! He would die on the spot!
"Ooh, nothing, Y/N," He answered quickly, quickening his pace to walk ahead of you "Hurry up, we're nearing the top!"
You just rolled your eyes and tried to match his pace. It was a few minutes before you realized that that moment was the first time he called you by your own name instead of 'Prefect'.
𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊
The top of the mountain was truly a sight to behold. There was a small clearing, and a pond that held even smaller fish inside of it. And alongside all of that, there were a multitude of flowers sprouting up everywhere, despite the colder temperature. They had white buds with a pink dash of color on the outer ridges, and a purple antenna-looking thing stood in the middle of the flower.
"Those are commonly called Dead Lillies," Jade explained once you remarked on their odd looks. He was currently unpacking some of his stuff, since the two of you decided to rest a bit before heading back down "They bloom in colder temperatures, and the stalks contain a sappy liquid that can be used as glue- it's popular amongst hikers, mainly because said sap can close up a wound without introducing toxins to the bloodstream, and because the petals taste of honey."
"Huh," You remarked, tugging off your backpack and sitting beside Jade. He offered you one of the nutrition bars he had brought along for the trip, despite claiming at the beginning that he wouldn't give you anything. Despite you having plenty of snacks, you accepted it with a smile "Pretty cool...you sure do know a lot about land for a mer-thing, don't you?"
"Mer-thing?" Jade gave you a sardonic look "I believe the correct term is mer-man, although what would I know, I'm just a mer-thing!"
"Shut up, you know what I meant!" You reached a hand out and shoved him lightly.
"Fufu, I suppose I do know quite a lot about land for a sea-dweller," He nodded "I find the difference in our plants and nature to be...well, rather fascinating! Under the sea, where my brother and I were raised, at least, it's quite dark. Not much grows under there, and what little does isn't quite as pretty as the flora up here. When we first came to live up here, I was taken aback by the stark differences and felt compelled to look into them more."
"Cool," You agreed, laying down in the grass to look up at the night sky.
This trip certainly was quite a...well, trip. You started out uneasy about it all, to say the least. But as the time dragged on, you noticed a difference in how Jade acted. As soon as he was in nature, not surrounded by students, he was...more calm. Relaxed. He smiled genuinely. He laughed.
And, most importantly, he didn't scare the crap out of you. Unless he wanted to- but even then, you could tell that he was just pulling a prank, and didn't want to genuinely upset or hurt you.
"I quite like the stars," Jade admitted once he settled down into the grass as well, using his jacket as a pillow to rest his head on as he stared up at the sky. His expression was one of utter delight, like a child looking at something wonderful for the very first time.
"Oh?" You questioned, propping your head up with a hand as you glanced at him "Are you interested in Astrology, too? Land and sky?"
The eel-mer waved a hand at you flippantly, not bothering to look at you "No, no, nothing like that. I just...like the way they look." With his mouth slightly ajar, the tips of his bottom teeth barely visible, and the shine of the star's lights in his eyes, he looked...oddly at peace. He finally looked his age. He wasn't the terrifying, intimidating figure that sent most of the students at NRC running away like cowards. Right here, he was...just a teenager. A teenager far, far away from his home that somehow managed to make a new home on land, in the solitude of nature.
You quite liked this teenager, you realized.
Maybe you would join the club, after all.

Note
hello ash. I want some tips on being disciplined.
im a student in my senior year of high schl and am preparing for a national level exam. I keep getting distracted when I'm studying and fall asleep at night feeling guilty for having achieved nothing throughout the day. all my classmates are wayyyyy ahead of me and I know I am more potent than them but I simply can't concentrate and be disciplined like them. any tips? ik you're a stem major yourself so you must have the advice I seek
thanks! xoxo
hi the only advice i have for you is to fucking study. put in some work. this is not a game. this is your fucking future. put in the hours, study, and become the best version of yourself. those hours you spent on social media? what did they ever get you other than headaches, low self esteem, dark eye circles. you won’t be doing tiktok dances or making pinterest boards in the examination hall. plus you can sleep in the coffin. stop taking this lightly. you owe it to yourself to be consistent, disciplined & focused.
being a stem major is so not easy. minimize ur distractions, identify what distracts you the most while studying and try to avoid those things. this might mean studying in a quiet place, using website blockers or apps to limit social media usage, or finding a study buddy to keep you accountable.
establish a study schedule and stick to it as much as possible!!!!!! set aside specific times for studying, breaks, and relaxation.
set achievable goals. this could be completing a certain number of practice questions, reviewing specific chapters, or mastering a particular concept. and reward yourself for the progress made! no matter how small. treat yourself to something you enjoy after completing a study session :) remember, everyone has their own pace and methods of studying. don’t compare yourself to your classmates or feel guilty for not studying in the same way as them, just stick to ur plans and NO MORE FUCKING PROCRASTINATING! bye love u <3

Chance encounter
@zeke-fanfucs
There is not a single thing that could have prepared the group for this. The situation was that absurd.
It was early in the morning, Hipswitch had a power cell held up to where his mouth would be and had just yelled at the resident demon to go watch porn in his room, not the kitchen. Karmor and Mahatma were both eating their breakfast. Sibren had yet to wake up and roll out of Doc’s bed, but that was fairly normal for him. They hadn’t even checked the bounty board for a job yet. They were all simply enjoying the quiet of the early day, unaware of the chaos about to grace them.
Nearly fifty miles outside of the town of Maya, in the middle of nowhere, someone stepped out of a metal shack. The strange person was gnawing on some kind of jerky before stepping onto a metal board. They fiddled with a small switch and strapped their feet to the device before turning it on.
A helmet was put on and in seconds, they were off at speeds that would make most people vomit or pass out. Not this one though, no they howled with delight at the speed. Tests like this were always so much fun, especially in the big empty nothing outside of town since there was nothing to break and no one to complain.
For a while, things seemed to be going smoothly, however, when they shifted to try pushing the speed further, everything went wrong. It took a while to notice, but once they saw the town approaching and tried to slow down, it became clear they couldn’t.
The speeds they were moving at meant it was nearly impossible to direct the hoverboard and nothing they did slowed or stopped it. This was not good.
Back at their base, Hipswitch, Albus and Karmor were going through the list of bounties while Mahatma took stock in his lab. A little while into the bounty search, a strange noise began to get closer.
Karmor set down what he was doing first, signing to the others. ‘Do you hear that?’
Albus paused, silent for a moment. “Yeah, it sounds like an engine. And screaming?”
The sound was getting louder and before they could get up to investigate, it was too late. A string of half understandable curses was heard and then something crashed right through the wall. The sound of an engine continued for a few more moments before dying down, and when the dust finally cleared, there was a person, upside down, arm bent at a weird angle on their floor, halfway through the wall separating the living room and kitchen.
The two missing members of the odd group came running out to the living room, looking at the destruction and the stranger in the middle of it.
“What. The. Fuck. Just happened?” The resident demon broke the silence, not sure what else could even be said.
Before anyone else could make a comment, a groan was heard from the floor. They watched as the stranger who just destroyed their walls sat up and tapped on their helmet. “Hoverboard boosted propulsion test 156 failed. Loss of turning and braking system.”
A moment later the helmet was pulled off, revealing shaggy white hair with blue dyed tips. The stranger leaned back, looking to catch their breath before letting out a blood curdling scream as they rested on their clearly very broken arm.
They immediately took their weight off the broken limb, looking towards it like they hadn’t noticed it before. Seconds later they went down like a sack of rocks.
Mahatma rushed over, checking for a pulse, sighing in relief when he felt it. “Someone help me get them back to my office.”
“What? Why should we help them they just fucked up our home?”
Attila took over then, looking at Albus like he was the stupidest man alive. “One because Mahatma said so. And two, because if they keep fainting from shock and pain we won’t be able to find out what the fuck just happened or get them to pay for the wall dipshit, now help me.”
A few hours later, their unwelcome guest began to wake up, groaning in pain on the exam table in Doc’s office. “Well…that sucked.” They muttered, drawing the doctor’s attention.
“I put a cast on your arm and bandaged up your cuts. Now, if you can stand, follow me.”
The man’s tone was calm, but stern, leaving no room for argument. The odd stranger hopped off the table, following the doctor out to where he had crashed into their home.
“Well….guess that explains why it feels like I got hit by a truck.” A lazy smile was on their face, seemingly unbothered by the destruction or their injuries. “Where’s my board?”
“Not important, you can have it back when you explain who you are, what in the hell that was all about, and how you plan to pay for the damages.”
They seemed to pout at the obscuran’s words, sighing like this was just an annoyance. “I’m Echo. I was testing out a new booster for my hoverboard, trying to up the max speed but it needs more testing. I tried to slow down once I started to see buildings from the town buuuuut the brakes and emergency shut off for the board both stopped working, and by the time I realized it, I was going too fast to even steer. Hence the crash.”
They paused, looking around the room. “Sorry about the walls by the way, oh and thanks for patching me up.” They shifted their weight slightly between their feet. “As for the damages, uh how much do you need?”
“25000 rounds. You caused major structural damage to the building, it ain’t gonna be cheap to fix.”
“25000? That’s all?”
All heads turned to Echo, all with varying looks of shock on their faces. “What do you mean ‘thats all?’”
“I mean it won’t be hard to pay for the damages if it's just 25000.”
Albus scoffed. “You expect us to believe you just have that kind of money in your pockets or something? You’re wearing rags and crashed into the building on a faulty piece of junk.”
“First off, no I don’t have that money in my pockets, that would be just asking to get robbed. I keep most of my money at home, I only bring enough to get lunch, tools or supplies with me. Second of all, don’t call it junk, it's insulting.” They huffed, clearly glaring at the man from behind their shaggy hair.
“How the fuck is calling that board faulty junk insulting?”
“I designed and built it without formal training or education in engineering. You think you can do better?”
Hipswitch held up a hand, motioning for Albus to shut the fuck up.
“You say you have enough to pay for the damages at home, how long would it take to get it?”
“Uh, with my board going at lower speeds and my arm in a cast, three hours?”
“You think we’re just gonna give that thing back and let you leave? None of us were born yesterday fuckstain.” Attila huffed, glaring at the weird gremlin.
“I mean you can come with me if you’re worried about me running off, or I could call someone to wire the money to you.”
“Call someone? Who the fuck could some scraggly gremlin call.”
A half manic grin crossed Echo’s face as they pulled out their communicator and pressed a contact. After a few moments, a woman answered, one who spoke with perfect diction and a tone that made it clear she thought herself above everyone else.
She spoke with a tense, false sweetness, obviously not thrilled to be receiving this call. “Auguste, darling, to what do I owe the…pleasure?” Not missing a beat, Echo replied in kind, their casual speaking dropped for something more formal.
“Mother, so good to speak to you. I was just calling because I’m in need of a bit of money. There was an incident with one of my tests.”
The woman sighed. “I see. Well how much is needed to repair what you broke this time?”
“Not much, just 25000 rounds.”
A mocking laugh came clear through the speaker. “Oh is that all? What could you have broken that costs so little to fix? Alright dear, send the information to Gregory and I’ll have him wire the money over.”
“Thank you mother.” With that the line went dead. “Fuck, I hate having to call home.”
They sighed, looking over at the cowboy. “Ok so once the money is wired I can have my board back right? I kinda wanna go get some lunch and go home. I need to figure out what went wrong.”
“Uh yea, once we have it you can go.” Within minutes, the obscuran had the money in his account, everyone still a bit shell shocked at what the fuck just happened.
“Alright, you got your money I’m gonna bounce, peace.” With that the odd engineer left, leaving everyone in stunned silence.

do you have any tips for making your notion pages (esp. planning/assignment tracker pages) both functional and aesthetic? what resources do you use? i've been using notion for a little while as a sort of academic planner, mostly with the table/database function, but would appreciate any advice/resources you have :)
Preface: Notion is first and foremost a workspace. If there's a tension between form and function, function has to win every time. That said, it's definitely possible to have both!
Tip #1: Use templates. Notion itself has a huge database and unless it brings you personal joy, there's no point wasting time building your page from the ground up. If you're in the studyblr tag, you probably want something aesthetic, and I've had good luck with these. The eternal studyblr queen EmmaStudies also has some pages.
Tip #2: Curate your pictures. Do you have a pinterest? No? Get one! I find it's best to start out with one or two focal images and then work from there. Don't be afraid to use dark images either, Notion does have selectable light/dark mode. Images with partial transparency can be nice to break up the sharp-cornered square that is Notion's default and Notion does also support GIFs. My biggest suggestion is to select 1 neutral base color (Notion provides black or white), 2 somewhat similar colors, and then one accent. On my current page, I'm using black, brown, gold, and white.
Tip #3: Beautiful is not synonymous with useful! Before you download a template, ask yourself: what organizational tool am I actually looking for? Personally, I can't use Notion as a planner —typing takes too long when I could scribble in a scratchbook instead. So I don't get much use out of the Calendar feature, the ToDo lists (hence why I post them here), or Kanban boards. I do get a ton of use out of the hyperlink, embed, stack text, and font color options for notetaking!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please pardon the contract law screenshots lol. Notion lets me have a colorcoded system, open/close toggles for things we may only discuss briefly, and hyperlink to separate pages for (law school) each individual case. That in particular is amazing because on those case-pages I can include links, citations, and put searchable 'tags' for year, jurisdiction, keywords, etc. That means that as I go through law school, I'm actually building a searchable database of relevant case law on every topic I study. Brigance isn't a case with a media component, but if I was working on White v. Samsung or Leonard v. Pepsico, then I could include the relevant video and audio clips.
So notetaking on Notion is exactly what I want! But if you want to have a daily planner, or a journal, or a habit tracker, make sure you include that. YouTube is the best possible resource for finding something specific, but I occasionally find something neat on Instagram.
Tip #4: The most useful thing for me (and I really believe the most useful thing for any student who has syllabi) is an assignments database. This is really just Notion's basic Database: Table View that I've curated into a workhorse.
At the beginning of the semester, I look at all of my syllabi and put all of my readings, homework, exams, and special dates into a table, tagging each one with the class, type of assignment, and due date. Then I can use Notion's "Views" feature to sort them. I have a tab where I can see everything, a tab where I can see the next 2 weeks, a tab just for tests, a tab to sort by each class, and a 'catchup' tab that lists everything incomplete with a due date that's passed —by checking it off, it deletes itself from that "View" because it no longer fills all the criteria. (I have actually done the things shown here, I just wanted you to have something to look at).
Tumblr media
Plus, I looove checking things off of the 'Full' tab and seeing that little % complete number at the bottom tick up!! This table means I'm never surprised by an assignment, exam, or event and preparation is more than half the battle. I've found that the best way to balance this really heavy-duty table on the opening page is to keep it on half the screen and fill the other side with gizmos and pictures. There's not a lot else you can do besides selecting the color of your tags.
Tip #5: Widgets! This is really where the fun aesthetic part comes in. Both Indify.co and Widgetbox.app work with Notion and it's how people include clocks, timers, weather reports, playlists, etc. They can be a bit of a humbug to install because they're hosted externally so to make adjustments you have to re-embed the new code into Notion; in particular, Spotify playlists take 10-20 minutes to update.
In general, I would still consider myself a Notion novice. There are some true wizards on YouTube doing things that frighten and impress my brain. If anyone has more resources, please add them below!
