I am pleased to announce that I will be teaching quarterly mini-classes! These will be replacing the quarterly chapbooks I was writing, and they will be available to everyone free of charge, whether live, or as a YouTube video afterward. 

If you've been following my social media over the past several months, you're likely familiar with my criticisms of AI foraging guides that have popped up on Amazon in the past year or so. In this free mini-class I'll show you just what's in these questionable sources created with programs like ChatGPT and MidJourney. Just how accurate--or dangerous--is the information in them? How can you tell when a book is written by AI rather than a real, live person? And what's being done to stop the spread of potentially fatal misinformation?  

This free mini-class will be held on Sunday, June 16 at 11am PST and last about an hour. The class will be recorded and the recording made available on my YouTube channel afterward for those unable to go to the live class. To attend live, please RSVP at rebeccathenaturalist(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll email you the Zoom link; space is limited and RSVPs help me gauge how many people will be attending live, so the sooner you RSVP the better!

Considering the current happenings in the U.S. it is our responsibility as its people to learn what our rights are, when they are being violated, and what we can do about it. We cannot achieve a teleocracy if we are subdued by a dictator of any kind.

June 4, 2025 - Dockers at a major French port on Wednesday refused to load a container with machine gun spare parts bound for Israel, saying they “will not take part in the ongoing genocide (in Gaza) orchestrated by the Israeli government,” according to broadcaster Franceinfo.

Dockers at the port of Marseille-Fos have set aside a container containing "spare parts for machine guns," and they "will not load it onto the ship bound for Haifa" in Israel, the Gulf of Fos branch of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) announced in a statement.

The union confirmed that it was alerted by several networks that 19 pallets of Eurolink belts were to be shipped to Israel on Thursday. The Eurolink belts are spare parts for machine guns used by the Israeli army.

"The port of Marseille-Fos must not be used to supply the Israeli army. The dockworkers and port staff of the Gulf of Fos will not take part in the ongoing genocide orchestrated by the Israeli government. We stand for peace among people. We condemn all these armed conflicts that bring death, misery, and the displacement of populations," it added. [link]/[link]

Hi, folks! I'm teaching a couple of great free nature classes later this week while I'm in Missouri!

This Thursday I'll be at the Rolla Public Library for a beginner friendly introduction to mushroom foraging and identification. While I will have a few slides with some great species for newcomers to look for, a lot of the class will be based in skills and tools to help you identify any mushroom you come across.

And then Saturday you can join me at the Audubon Trails Nature Center for a lichen walk! We'll look for these awesome little composite beings, learn more about what they are, and check out some of the other natural wonders along the way, too. The weather looks like it'll be sunny and warmer than today, but wear good closed-toed footwear to stay safe on the trail.

Let's reflect on the manifestos that have been posted on reddit yet they are censoring there and across the news media.
