Osha and Qimir's hands touching is what I love the most about non-romance media with a romance subplot. It's in the small gestures, in a touch, an emotion, an unsaid word and eyes looking at each other. I don't need two characters kissing in episode 3 because that's easy, tell me why they like each other, show me why they are meant to be together. They might broken pieces of a puzzle but somehow they fit.

Qimir hoping that Osha would accept to train with him, his concern for her when she has his helmet on, him yearning to touch her only for her to push away from him until she is not, his thumb caressing hers, his longing gazes, he sees she is powerful and wants her to reach her full potential so that he might share a life with someone, someone who is an equal.

I don't know what the future of this show will be but the world needs slowburns because if I wanted a bad romance I would just go and have one in real life.

Can we talk about what a weird protagonist SY is?

Like LBH is a very typical protagonist, over-powerful, beautiful, inteligent, obsessive, with a dark backstory and a revenge/happy end arc. There's a reason PIDW is such a banger in the genre and SY is obsessed with him. LBH is all that.

But SY? He seems like a kind of normal guy, except that he is so fundamentally weird. Dude rage died because of an online novel he didn't even like. An online novel he religiously followed to rage and hate on the author. To then transmigrate into the novel's world and taking that in stride as well. Really slipping into the poser persona that SJ crafted for SQQ just much much kinder. To use the opportunity to hang out with all his favorite characters and be kind to them but never quite thinking of them as persons or really thinking about what his actions may mean to a person. Just hanging out having a good ol' time never thinking about anything ever, except beasts and what LBH may be up to. Purely out of intellectual interest of course. To repress his feelings so hard about everything some readers seem to get the honest to god impression SY doesn't like LBH. As the protagonist of a danmei!

It would be so easy if we knew of any trauma that caused SY's bizarre mix of obession/repression. But he seems to come from a loving family that he loved in turn. Not that he brings up their loss through the transmigration ever if he can help it. He didn't have to worry about money. His insane wifebeam must have been present in his first life. We have no indication that he changed his behavior as SY in the transmigration and this dude is charming to a degree that borders on protagonist halo. He seems to passingly resemble SQQ meaning he must have at least been handsome. I love fanon terminally ill or disabled SY because it does fit him so well but we have no indication that canon SY has had any issues with his health. His mental health seems okayish to the degree it is in SVSSS - which like the repression speaks of deep emotional issues. But nothing SY would have let himself think about, obviously.

My point is - I really like SY being so fundamentally weird without being given any proper reason. I don't think he quite realizes himself that he is weird. That it may be unusual to have your whole life uprooted, transmigrating into a fictional world (one that he at least knows well) as the main antagonist faced with a horrifying death and just shrug and go, well best I can do it malewife my way into living through this - without intending it in a gay way at all!!

He somehow dissociates so well from his own feelings that he dotes on LBH, truly to an extraordinaty degree that other peaks know of their close bond even before his year-long grief seclusion, without ever considering what such care could mean for a person like LBH. He repeatedly gets affectionate with men excplicitly because he's like we're all men here, this is not weird. I'd excuse SY if he were from a more repressed society where being gay would be a real social taboo that nobody speaks about. But he's from the modern world! He knows of gay people!

It may be that PIDW as a stallion novel never featured gay sex between men in the original - there was plenty of lesbian sex within the harem, although like probably only for Bingge's benefit. We don't know! Bingge's is portrayed as THE straight protagonist, it may be that SY just assumed being straight was compulsory for all men within the world as a result. But! Peerless Cucumber actively knew of people shipping the men in PIDW and even defended them against hate. But that of course cannot possibly apply to him so we're just not thinking about it :)

It's just... for a protagonist in a romance SY has such an active dislike for his feelings. And not even a conscious one! There are plenty of tsundere type protagonists out there who are very vocal about their emotional repression and dislike for expressing their emotions. That's not SY. Not even in his own internal monologue does he admit to himself that he is uncomfortable with his own feelings. He glosses over them with expectations no one actually demands of him - it's shameful for a man to submit to another man (is it shameful for a man to submit - not even sexually necessarily just being captured by an almighty demon king? is that truly a matter of masculine pride?), it's shameful to having his grief brought up in front of others, it's shameful to express anything beyond platonic or familial affection for a man, it's shameful to initiate sex, it's shameful to be loud during sex. He feels more comfortable putting himself into the female role in an interaction, which is also shameful but apparently less so than acknowledging that two men may be in a scenario that he feels would be romantically or sexually charged in a hetereosexual interaction.

SY is lucky LBH doesn't have the same hang-ups, which honestly I would feel would be more understandable from all of the abuse he experienced. SY has no apparent reason for being so emotionally and sexually repressed. He lived a pretty privileged life. And I think that must have been intentional on MXTX's part. It would have been so so easy to give SY a semblance of traumatic backstory that informs his weird hang-ups here. An absent family, bullying, an illness, depression, loss of a friend, truly anything would have given readers something to hold on to why SY has such weird hang-ups about his own feelings. But she didn't. And I think that serves even more to highlight how destructive compulsory hetereosexuality and toxic masculinity is. SY doesn't even read as a particularly toxic masculine man. He has no issues about other men crying (seems to enjoy taking care of them rather), he has no issue with being compared to women even outside of sexual or romantic context (think riding in the carriage while QQQ while LMY rides her horse), he acknowledges and defends gay shipping. He actively cheers for stronger women and a big issue of his with PIDW seems to be how one-dimensional the women were written, only serving as a new papapapa chapter.

And even as a not particularly toxic man, he has such deep issues with his own emotions, it causes most of svsss' plot to develop how he treats his own and other men's feelings. MXTX actively gave him a pretty privileged and open-minded starting position and still SY was so informed by what he expected of a manly conduct, thought and truly just a lack of feelings, he nearly caused the end of the world and the death of his boyfriend. It took him like 800 pages to have sex with a man and even longer to admit out loud that he is in love. Not even expressly. implied.

To me that makes SY such a compelling character. Probably kind of reminds me of my own repressive tendencies but also because not even in the extras, during or after their wedding he really acknowledges it as a problem. LBH doesn't seem to mind, not that I think he would mind anything his shizun does. And their dynamic works well for them - the whining bingmei and SY can keep his poser act that makes him feel so secure. SVSSS to an extent is a story of SY growing into his own feelings but really only to an extent. He's far far away from having a healthy relationship with them. He may not be actively repressing them or wilfully ignoring LBH's but he certainly isn't willing to really look at them beyond the shame he so often carries and glosses over. He'll do it for LBH's sake but really only then. And I think that's why bingmei and SY work so well but read a bit off-putting maybe to many readers. LBH's whining forces SY to look at his own feelings in order to care for LBH. Which an emotional healthy person would probably be able to pretty easily do on their own. But for SY it's such a monumental task that only his very deep love and care for LBH makes him do it. And that's a decidely unhealthy dynamic but works well for both of them, I think. I'm gonna make another posts someday about what LBH's abuse and neglect means for his ability to accept love and care and why then SY's aloof persona and their shizun/disciple dynamic maybe gives him the framework to be able to accept that.

But yeah SY is a deeply repressed weird obsessive person which emotional issues the size of China but he hides it remarkably well behind his aloof act and humour. And I think that makes SVSSS all the more compelling as a commentary on gender roles, romantic fiction and social expectations.

I feel like your version of them would have most of their issues figured out by the time they’re old and stuff. Can you talk about their dynamic a bit more pretty please? (I know you just had an ask about this so sorry to keep bringing it up aha 🤪. I’m obsessed with them, and I love your art/au and want to understand them.)

the basis of why i like the fiddlestan ship is strictly because it doesn't work and is doomed to fail. it's a relationship between two extremely damaged people that are only together for transactional reasons.

the way i see it starting: fiddleford comes back to gravity falls after being kicked out by emma may in hopes that he can patch things up with ford. he finds stan there instead and decides to help him fix the portal despite his crushing anxiety about it because he has nowhere else to go. they're both stuck alone in this situation and urges become apparent. things are awkward for a while before they start banging fuck nasty brokeback mountain style.

fiddleford wants stan because he's delusional and still in love with ford. sure he grows to appreciate differences between them and has a separate chemistry with stan, but he is also completely out of touch with reality and rebounding off of his failed marriage with a man who looks just like the one he cheated on his wife with. working on the portal triggers intense panic attacks, which makes him use the memory gun more, which makes him less and less stable.

stan is working himself to death trying to get ford back and just needs affection. the sexual aspect of their relationship helps him blow off steam, but fiddleford also treats him like a person with a brain and allows him to be emotionally vulnerable for the first time in a long while. having someone finally break down his walls is equal parts frightening and addictive for him; he wants to be loved so badly but knows deep down that fiddleford doesn't actually love him, just the person he represents. he's just second best again.

things start to fall apart when it becomes clear that fixing the portal will be impossible without the other journals. fiddleford basically gives up trying to do the work in earnest and just lives in a domestic fantasy world. stan starts to get more and more impatient about the lack of work getting done and the stress makes him a lot more irritated and volatile. the two enter a vicious cycle of violent fights and honeymoon phases until things boil over: stan confronts fiddleford about the memory gun and kicks him out after he tries to use it on him.

post break up fiddleford, now with his cult and savior complex, murder suicides the portal and their affair from both of their memories. however, stan gets his portal memories back being at the shack and goes on to do what he does in canon.

the whole relationship takes place over the course of a few weeks and is as canon compliant as i could manage. i think it's a really fun concept and i think about it all the time.

to be real, i really dislike the idea that all relationships in media have to be healthy and resolved in order to be compelling. the idea that characters NEED to end the story happy and together is just plain unrealistic. i prefer when stories go outside of the limits of "and then they got together and everything was great after that", especially if being in a relationship isn't necessary to a characters arc.

i do think that them getting together when they're older could work and be very nice. however, i also don't think it's entirely necessary, especially since i did make their relationship rotted gutted awful bad. it is cute though, they can kiss and watch tv and marry for taxt purposes i guess.

We're talking about this part one and this part two it's just crack. Pure fun.

Ok- first, Lexy- I think he's the type of person that by 10 pm he's dead to the world, not counting events and the few times he wakes up and needs to complete his weekly scheming, so, at 3 am on the clock, he wakes up sweating full of dread as he remembers that ONE time a student of some university he spoke at asked about him being in love with Superman.

The reason he gave? A specific fic written by one jokergagglingbatsballs35, where they go into detail on how his obsessive tendency of fighting Superman is clearly just the same yearning that Joker has for Batman. If he wasn't busy with the constant PR problems and his plans against Superman, he would have found you before the Joker. In the end, he doesn't, but the event still haunts him.

On the other hand, Superman is just digging their holes tbh. "Oh, we used to be friends, actually." and "I wish we still were," and xyz is just making the people who read the fanfics think that jokergagglingbatsballs35 is a 40 years old psychologist who sees right through everyone and just found a way to call it what it is without being sued.

Harley, if asked, she'll lie to your face, but she is the biggest Batman x Joker shipper as a guilty pleasure (she wants to see Joker being thrown around like a ragdoll) but her favorites are the Catwoman x Ivy x Harley fics batsis writes.

Selina and Pamela don't really care, but Selina has read one fanfiction regarding Batsy x Joker you wrote and had to put her phone down because from 8 pm it turned into 9 am and she had to reconsider her life choices.

You'd never write the sirens x Batman because you respect the girlies too much and don't think your father is capable of a stable relationship with one of them, let alone a polycule. BUT you do write Bruce Wayne x Two-Face.

Harvey doesn't care, he's heard his men whisper about it, but he brushes it off as something bored teens do to stir drama(which, he is right about).

Now, you've written exactly one Penguin x Batman, Omegaverse, Angst No Comfort, Major Character Death, and after you finished it, you had to take a week break for your mental health.

Cobblepot knows. He's read it out of morbid curiosity and has learned terms he wishes he hadn't. He's impressed and terrified and has buried the knowledge deep in the back of his mind. Now, every time Joker is mentioned, he shivers or twitches.

John Constantine follows you on every social media and leaves likes on every x John Constantine you write, almost shed a tear on the King Shark x him, enemies to lovers to enemies you wrote. He also reads the Batman x Joker ones when Bruce annoys him.

Slade only knows about you because one of your edits ended up on the news, and he almost choked on the Chinese takeout he was eating. He doesn't care that much, but if those edits of him being the badass turn into a fail compilation of him tripping over his feet while walking, he'll have a bone to pick.

Jason has a mental breakdown when Red Hood starts being tagged into your Red Hood x Joker fic, and stupidly tries to go to you for comfort, only to be told to grow up.

If a Robin/Nightwing x Slade fic got popular, not yours specifically, any in general, Dick is puting Jason's breakdown to shame- he will cry and then try to go out for a "talk" after he finds who wrote it.

Speaking of- I mentioned how Cassandra already knows, the second to know is Duke. He's in denial. Steph knows because Cass was sloppy one day after you were "kidnapped" by Joker and it slipped her tongue. It was all the blonde needed to jump from the "yeah, that's fucked up" boat into the "this the best shit ever" boat.

Damian, Barbara, and Alfred are "too old"™️for such childish things. Alfred knows. He knew as soon as he found you furiously typing away on your laptop, and all you could say was "Omegaverse penguin x batman".

Dick, Jason, and Bruce find out at the same time, but by that time you're already in metropolis and planning to change your name and buy a little house in the country side somewhere.

I, however, feel batsis has bad luck, and someone would notice her and question it- maybe a Super being like "heyyy... You look oddly familiar. Have I seen you anywhere?" And batsis is just smiling and sweating bullets as she tries to keep her heart in check, knowing damn well they've met at a gala or in the batcave. "Nope."

A/N: I know yandere's are always toxic, but when I specify it in the warnings it's because there's some focus on that kind of relationship and how it feels to be in it in the work.

Light flashed overhead, followed by what sounded like the sky splitting open. Rain pelted the leaves overhead, mud sticking to your feet as you clung to a tree trunk, your nails digging into the bark. Everything around you was pitch black, a complete void of nothingness that pricked at the skin on the back of your neck.

You take a breath, uncontrollable shivers wracking your body as you try to ignore the chill seeping through your limbs. Your leg feels numb and radiates with pain through the bones, you already know it’s broken but, there was no better time. Despite all the windows of your cramped “room” being covered, you knew it had landed, the hours you’d spent on that cursed ship made you perfectly attuned to it. You’ve learned how to differentiate the rumbles through its hull and familiarize yourself with the sound of its engine.

How long have you spent on that flying coffin? Months? Years? It’s hard to tell when even ten minutes feels like ten days. Either way, broken leg or missing limb, you wouldn’t have missed this chance for the world.

A chance of freedom, the chance to breathe without those eyes always watching you, it’s something you’ve started fantasying about. Being able to walk through Linkon freely, wearing whatever you want, talking to whoever you want. You’ll change your name and move somewhere far away, somewhere the Farspace Fleet can’t control. Maybe the N109 Zone could be a good place to start.

Why did things have to be like this? He was always the one you could rely on when no one else was there to help, he was the one who'd hide you away from everyone else when you couldn't stop the tears. You don't remember a time when you weren't together, glued by the hand and tied at the waist. You just wanted to go back to when his constant staring felt like something pure and innocent instead of the sick, twisted feeling in your gut that writhed and screamed at you to run.

Another rumble sounds overhead and you sniffle. Right now, those are some pretty far-off dreams and you don’t know if you should laugh, or cry about that. Slowly, unwillingly, you pry your fingers from the tree and reach for the grass instead. You dig into the dirt and pull, pain tears through your leg but you press on. You can’t afford to stop now, no matter how much it hurts, not when you’re on a timer.

It’s only a matter of time before Caleb starts his search if he isn’t already. You reach and grab at the ground again, a stick digs into your palm as you drag yourself forward another few inches. You hoped you could’ve kept running, pain be damned, but you guess there’s always a point where even adrenaline can’t mask the injury anymore. You don’t even remember the “path” you took if you could even call it that.

You wonder if he'll miss you.

It’s not important. You don’t need to know how you got here, you just need to escape. Just keep dragging yourself forward and you'll get somewhere eventually. You bite your lip until you can feel your teeth tear the skin, to distract you from that all-consuming pit that would rather have you curl up and cry instead.

You have to make this. Your arms ache, but you pull yourself forward again.

Sometimes, you think back to when you were both kids. At the time, and even when he...found you again, you didn’t really think he was like that, but, you’ve been thinking these days. A lot. Since it’s all you can do sometimes, and the more you look back, the more you retraced every memory of him, the more you started realizing...things. That, he wasn’t really the gentle, selfless person you always thought he was.

You freeze. You hear someone walking behind you. In the next instant, a hand grips your shoulder and throws you onto your back, you scream before you even fully register the pain.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” He laughs, it’s airy and pained. “This is exactly why I can’t let you outside anymore. You keep doing shit like this!”

There’s a rustle, and you feel his breath hit your face. “Do you have any idea, even the slightest clue of how terrified you made me feel when I went to check on you and you were gone? How it felt having every nook and corner of the ship searched and find you nowhere to be seen?”

“Do you know how much that hurt?” Something gently hits your face, mixed with the heavy droplets from the trees. He buries his head into your shoulder, his hands trembling as his nails dig into you.

This has happened before, when you were teenagers. You opened up about wanting to run away, and the look of pure terror that was on his face stunned you enough that you couldn't react when he lunged for you. Before, you would've said it was an accident, but why do you always have accidents whenever you try to do anything for yourself?

For a moment, your mind is empty. Only the hollow ache and the sound of heavy rain and his shuddered breaths, but then something rises. It boils, scalding as it crawls up from your gut and past your ribs.

You feel around next to you until something hard brushes your fingers, you grip it tightly and muster all your strength, channeling all your fear, anger, hatred, and love into the rock in your palm and you swing. I’m sorry.

You can barely feel where it hit, you only hear him yelp and something twists in your heart. You don’t know where you’re hitting anymore, you’re just following the sound, you think he’s trying to stop you, but at this point, it feels like you’re distant from your body.

You can’t see anything, there are no lights. It’s like you’re sitting in an empty theater all alone, but something has to give. Something always does.

Your leg, the broken one. He twisted it with his evol and a thought creeps into your mind, your brain screaming that something’s wrong and you refuse to acknowledge it. The fear bubbling up your throat into something you can’t contain.

“CALEB!”

“I’m sorry-” He grips your wrist and prys the rock from your hand, he’s definitely crying this time. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,

Space and time stretch to infinity until it starts to converge again and your consciousness awakens. It’s quiet, except for the humming, and it’s...warm. When you open your eyes, you're back home.

Golden sunlight filters through the windows, all your toys are neatly put away as they should be, you're tucked under your favorite blankets, and nothing is wrong. It was just a dream, a nightmare, it's not real.

You had a nightmare, but it’s alright because you’re safe in your bed, in your room with all your books and toys, and Caleb.

Caleb.

All the comfort and safety you've felt for the first time in years vanishes like a flame snuffed out by the wind. You try to throw off the covers, to run, to scream, but instead, all you get are two arms wrapped tightly around you, one made of flesh and the other harder than stone.

Your leg hurts.

“Hey.” He sounds hoarse. “How are you doing?” He shifts and his face fills your vision. His eyes are bloodshot and there are bandages on the side of his head and his nose.

You stare at each other for a while, you don’t feel like talking. He looks away and sighs before turning back to you with a smile that looks so fragile it could shatter in a moment. “I changed your room.” He grabs a plushie and shows it to you. “I thought it must be…boring to be here with nothing to do, so I decorated it for you.”

You look at the window. The wooden sill has a mint plant on it and sunlight streams through the sheer curtains.

Your leg hurts.

He whispers, “It’s nice, isn’t it?” And places a soft, trembling kiss upon your temple. “Just like when we were little.” You can see the closet in the corner of your eye.

There's silence. Only the sound of your breathing and that faint rumble that runs through every wall and floor you've become so agonizingly familiar with.

"Please look at me." He's trembling again.

"Please just say something— anything! I've been trying so hard to do things right for you and you just keep fighting me on it every day! All I wanted was for you to be safe and happy and instead, I have to watch you rip yourself apart and for what? Do you not love me anymore? Am I not good enough? Why can't you just stay with me? It hurts being alone, I don't want to be alone anymore, I thought you were the same, I thought you loved me too. What changed? I don't wanna hurt you again— I can't hurt you again, I can't, I can't, I can't—"

His voice shatters into sobs. As much as you hate to admit it, it still hurts knowing you hurt him. You want to apologize, to say you're sorry, and explain why you felt you had to, but you know there's no point in that.

You know better than to apologize after what happened last time.

You won't apologize, but offering some comfort should be okay, right? He's the one other person in the world you spent the majority of your life with, at least it has to be better than lying here like a doll.

So, you slowly and carefully put your hand on the back of his head; and you keep your touch light, afraid of it being "wrong" somehow. He stiffens, taking a shuddering breath before melting into you.

He wraps himself over you like a cacoon, and you allow yourself to curl into his touch even as your heart hammers in your chest, begging to be free. It's strange to be like this, as if instead of emotion there's a rising static, incomprehensible as it floods your ears as if it was larger than you— larger than you could imagine.

He pulls away and your heart drops into the floor, muscles tensing into fight or flight as your mind races to come up with a contingency plan, an escape route, anything— and then you see his face again. Swollen eyes and lips, exhaustion pulling at his skin, but the glimmer in his eyes is as if he was gifted the sun itself; like there's nowhere else he'd rather be than burning in your presence.

It's like how things used to be again, when he'd let his guard down just enough to be vulnerable, just enough to let you peek into his mind for a moment. You wish these moments would last longer than a day, or a week, but— you tuck a strand of hair behind his ear— you'll indulge this time and again and again and again and

Who else would accept you as you were broken into are if not him? Who else knows how to maneuver all your sharp edges and reach past the thorns to get to you? His name tastes like poison more than it used to, but maybe if you drink it just one more time things will be good again.

You want to hurt him, but you want to love him too. You want to break his fingers and kiss them better, shatter his ribs, and steal his heart. You want him to know the pain of being “yours” as much as he’s made you suffer for being “his”. You think he knows it too because the shine he had in his eyes has eclipsed into something still, pained, and accepting.

Your hands claw for his hair, grabbing a fistful and yanking him closer as a euphoric smile breaks on his face. When your lips meet, it's as hot and cold as death itself, so you spiral deeper, biting his lips until you taste that particular tang you've come to love when it comes from him. You let his hand press and knead your chest through your shirt, your leg burns with pain, but you dig your nails deeper into his skin until the sensation of his kiss feels just as prominent as the pain.

His hands drag to your torso, his fingers pressing into bruises as he uses his weight to pin you into the mattress like a butterfly. You break apart to breathe and see the blood smeared over his face and staining his bandages, he slips his hand to your waist and haphazardly tugs up your shirt the same way he's done it for years.

Wind Archer Cookie believes that starting a relationship with Fire Spirit would distract him from his duties as an elemental, and as a Guardian of the Millenial Tree. But, Millenial Tree Cookie wouldn't mind it at all, as he just wants his wind to be happy.

Plz keep in mind that I'm finding out these headcanons along with you, so things are changing. Originally, i saod that Wind Archer didnt tell Millenial Tree about his crush, but I'm changing that. Millenial Tree Cookie is the only one that Wind Archer told about his crush (told is a strong word. You know confessing without confessing? It's like that. "I don't... but let's say i did. He also didn't srop names, but Millenial Tree knew who it was), and Millenial Tree was very happy that his wind found someone that could make him happy. But, Wind Archer said that he isn't going to act on it, since it would distract him from his duty. Millenial Tree said to do what he thinks is right, but he should also make room for his own happiness. Those words stuck a lot with Wind Archer.

Blue Slushy

"Ooh, Wind Archer Cookie, who are you making nests for? Can you tell me? Come on, you can tell me!" Blue Slushy Cookie is also a bird, so she recognizes all the courting behaviour that Wind Archer Cookie does. Idk much about their dynamic yet, so this is just from what I've witnessed of her personality.

She thinks his crush is adorable. She clocked in Wind Archer liked someone after she saw all the shiny things decorating his favorite parts of the forest and when she saw leftover 'nesrs' (just comfy spots around the forest filled with pillows and moss) Wind Archer made. At first, while she was curious who it was, she was more happy that Wind Archer was seeing someone. She suspected it was Fire Spirit Cookie after she found repeated burn marks on the nest. Just to make sure, she asked Wind Archer about it, and before he could answer, flowers bloomed around him, which gave him away. She jumped up and down with excitement while Wind Archer just hid his embarrassed blush under his scarf.

Cookiemals

They're kids, so I don't think the Cookiemals are too concerned with romance (unless they were like me who was completely obsessed with shipping when I was like, 9 years old). I think they'd gossip about it like elementary schoolers would, in that they talk about it as kids who haven't experienced romantic love, and see it more as a fun idea or game than the actual feelings. When they noticed how much Fire Spirit comes to the forest, they asked if that was Wind Archer's boyfriend, to which he stuttered and said, "no." They asked If Windy liked him, and he didn't give a response, so now they're like, "Oh my witches, he does!"

Windy doesn't mind the cookiemals being around Fire Spirit, and Fire Spirit doesn't mind them bcuz they're kind of part of Windy's family (family is important to dragons), but Windy always has that fear in the back of his mind that they're going to be like, "Oh, btw, did you know Wind Archer Cookie has a crush on you?" (I've done that before, btw, bcuz I was a little kid without a filter). Choco Lion would've, but Buttershell fox stopped it, saying smthn like, "No, you can't do that! From what I know about crushes, the person has to tell them themself!"

Pitaya Dragon

Listen, Fire Spirit is a cocky asshole. We all know this. And Pitaya Dragon has to deal with this, and Fire Spirit teasing them all the time.

And bcuz he's an over-confident cocky asshole, there isn't much teasing you can do that'll actually effect him. So, when finding out that Fire Spirit has a weakness? Something that would make him SWEAT when brought up? There is no way in the OVEN Pitaya Dragon would let that go. They are going to tease him for his crush to Hell and back! And they are going to revel in every SECOND of it.

Pitaya found out bcuz of Fire Spirit's Dragon behaviours (bringing shiny things whenever he visited the forest, continuously traveling there a lot despite it being a long journey, being really competitive with Wind Archer, etc), as they are full Dragon and can clock it in very easily.

It was confirmed to them one day when Pitaya decided to mess with Fire Spirit by talking about "how handsome Wind Archer is" and saying that if they were a puny Cookie, they'd go after him and for a split second, Fire Spirit thought they actually were going to go after Wind Archer, and in the split second, he burned the juice glass he was holding to a crisp. Pitaya was silent for a good 10 seconds before reality hit them, and they started (very loudly) laughing about how jealous Fire Spirit got while Fire Spirit tried to explain away his action. (Reptiles can be territorial when it comes to their mates so, for Fire Spirit, that would translate to easily getting jealous).

Snapdragon

They're a baby. What do you want them to do? They like Wind Archer because he plays with them, and they like coming with Fire Spirit to the Milleniam Forest bcuz it means they can play with Wind Archer (and the Cookiemals) more.

Lmao but for real. Idk if it's bts drama with Ryan or something but it's getting more and more obvious. Bobby, his captain just died and the guy is just over there offering a cookie to Ravi in these trying times like an extra on set with a blank expression on his face.

I refuse to feel bad for enjoying this situation. Bvddie shippers have made their own bed. I don't like Ryan at all, but even I can admit there's only so much toxicity an actor can take. Buck was at least allowed to exist in his own right in their eyes even if they couldn't stand him canonically dating a man (so much for being LGBT warriors and caring for representation!). But the way they're obsessed with Eddie and try to bring every plot he has back to him being "gay" is exhausting and weird as fuck.

Imagine being an actor and being excited for the storyline your character is getting that season and your fans are just like "we don't care, when are Buck and Eddie going to fuck on screen tho?" Not saying Eddie's plots have always been exciting at all, lord knows they've done some stupid shit with the character, but still. Eddie arguably had the most interesting SL in years while trying to mend his relationship with Chris and they could not have cared less because it meant he was in Texas and not bending over for Buck. I wouldn't blame Ryan if he wants out, if his acting in this ep is any indication, his heart just isn't in it anymore.

I didn't mind Eddie at first, I really didn't. But, it kind of feels like after Shannon died, the writers just...didn't know what to do with him. His entire existence became about grief without any real action to address it or deal with it. I get it, grief never really goes away, but you can't just Fight Club your way out of it either.

I often wonder if the writers intended to write him as insufferable and selfish as they have. He says things to hurt others and never reflects or takes accountability. It's been talked about ad nauseum here, but his friendship with Buck is incredibly one sided. Again, I don't know what's more scary...to think this was all by design...or that it wasn't.

And, since we're just going for it here, Ryandrew Tateman absolutely hasn't done himself any favors here. I know what he did. You know he did. And I wish I could say that was the only thing, or even the most recent.

Akatsuki: 9/10

Really fun character, love him every time he gets significant screentime, especially Gilbert's and Rio's routes, desperately hope he's a major character in the upcoming new prince stuff. Loses a point because he's the number one supporter of Belle being his daughter, but constantly denies it, too (just adopt her already omg). Pretty sure he's actually an information broker and not a bookseller? Would be cool if he were like head of the stereotypical rofan information guild.

Azel: 7/10

Only know the bare minimum about him so far and that he's disappointingly pale, also that he is very, very punchable seeming. I've got high hopes for his route! (But right now am just shipping him with Silvio)

Chevalier: 3/10

Occasionally interesting, backfires for me because he'd be so much better if they'd just let him be a villain instead of trying to have their cake and eat it, too. A huge victim of failures to both "show don't tell" and of successfully writing a character who is smarter than the writers. Too good at anything with more or less fake weaknesses. Huge disappointment, his presence is almost always a reminder of how much cooler he could have been interspersed with a few scenes where he actually gets to shine. Also constantly annoyed at his warmonger imperialism being treated as a perfectly good philosophy for Rhodolite's king to have instead of a major flaw. And if he was half as smart as he supposedly is, he'd never even want the throne because of how much that would limit his mobility and ability to hide what he's doing (another way Gilbert is the superior character).

Clavis: 7/10

Better in other routes/events than his own, when there's a "is he or isn't he?" mystique around his loyalty and where he gets to be a true chaos monkey. Especially because he's not considered one of the geniuses, but in multiple routes he very much seemed to be thinking so many steps ahead he might be psychic. Normally he's creepy in the best of ways. Don't really get his motivations all things considered, but I'm also pro-killing-Chev-off.

Cyran: 15/10

Best character in the game. Clever, funny, caring, cutting dry humor. Who else could spend so much time with Clavis without committing a murder? Total bullshit we can't romance him. Let me leave Clavis/Chev/whoever for him, damn you, game. Clavis should hilariously non-consensually adopt him so he can count as a prince and be an LI. Or let him lead a peasant revolt and become prime minister or something.

Gilbert: 10/10

Most aesthetically pleasing model in the game, could stare at him on my screen forever. Love yanderes, like how he's still a little freaky about the MC in many other routes even if they can't make him a yandere there (I've got a whole theory how there's like three different Gilbert timelines a route could be using lol). Somehow does not suffer from the same issues as Chev despite also being way smarter than any writer, we constantly get shown just how clever he is in meaningful ways. Actually has a real, very serious weakness (loved seeing it in Silvio's route). Also ruining his own vision for aesthetics, which is hilarious. Would be 11/10, but loses a point for obsessing over purity (boring) instead of obsessing over corrupting others (hot). Definitely abusive, but he's literally the main antagonist of the game so that's expected.

Jin: 3/10

Listen, I don't care about his tragic backstory, his and his parents' trauma, or anything else, what I care about is how horribly written Clause 99 is. He had years to come up with something and wrote that absolute dogshit? AND is totally inconsistent about enforcing it and what exactly it means. Leon's Clause 100 is what Clause 99 should have been. Also he somehow manages to come off as an even bigger creeper than Nokto and Clavis combined half the time.

Keith (Kind): 6/10

A little too wishywashy and weak at first, but by the end of his route he's gotten a lot better, of course, and he is still very kind across other routes. I always feel bad for him dealing with Wicked Keith's bullshit (like in Silvio's route oof), it would be like if Licht and Nokto shared a body. Weird mix of super naive and totally aware of the danger he's in, frustratingly passive at points.

Keith (Wicked): 7/10

Prefer him to Kind Keith, kind of love the theory he's the original which honestly would be so much more interesting. Loses a point for that roofie event and other similar 'trying to make people hate Kind Keith' bs, which is normally very gross, but also he's sort of an antagonist so I get why they have him do it. Could be way more yandere, even if he can't be possessive about Belle and Kind Keith.

Leon: 9/10

It's okay to be an actually nice guy who actually cares about people, especially when accompanied by the bleakest backstory in the game and every reason to want to burn the world down. Biggest letdown is how often they ignore his power and influence to instead have Chevalier shine by himself or against Gilbert, who also could have made an amazing contrast with Leon if they'd allowed a three way rivalry between them. His supportiveness to everyone and willingness to take risks to protect people even if they don't deserve it is chef's kiss and not utilized nearly enough. Should just always be made king in every route, he's the best option in all of them (except if we abolished the monarchy!! which he also would probably accept).

Licht: 6/10

I wish I liked his character design a little more, because this sad boy is very adorable, personality wise. Doesn't really have a presence in most routes, though (he barely even appears in most of them), and even in events where it's him he's kind of blah to me.

Luke: 7/10

Okay actually this is my least favorite of the character designs, just not aesthetically appealing to me at all. But I'm into siscon characters and I like his backstory, and twisted relationship with Gilbert. Biggest drawback is how often he's just sort of this innocent background character in most routes when he should always at least have major hints at not being so. Also 1/10 for not dismantling the monarchy. Boo.

Lydia/Lidia: 10/10

Best mother in the game (sorry, Sariel). Kind, clever, regal. She started as a commoner, but is very much the image of a queen, so fuck you fourth prince's mother saying commoners can't cut it. Her name was spelled both ways in the brief time we saw her and that just shows how much attention is given to other female characters, alas.

Matthias: 4/10

The initial design/introduction of him definitely leaves me thinking he's infinitely kickable--kinda fashy seeming Aryan guy? yeah, no. But I've been trying to read some fan translations of his events and stuff and I'm starting to understand why he seems like such a fan favorite. Still not sure how I'll actually feel about him, though, once we get his route.

Nokto: 4/10

I still haven't forgiven him for not even apologizing after almost getting Belle raped in the very rapey situation he dragged her into in Leon's route and also for being an unbelievable creeper in a bunch of other routes/events. I don't care if "threaten to SA a person to get them to leave me alone" is his go-to, it's still threatening to SA someone. Since trying to play ikevil Alfons route I'm a bit more lenient towards Nokto, though. I like his character design more than Licht's, though that's not saying much (neither of them hold a candle to William, anyway).

Rio: 8/10

I had this guy totally wrong, but it took reading his own route to figure that out so minus a point for that, but love him after reading his route (also great in Silvio's). He's much stronger and smarter than I thought. The amnesia thing is a bit contrived, I kind of wish he'd been faking it first because he wanted a break and then because he fell in love. Not really sure why he also pushes the idea that he can't be with Belle even after he finds out who he is, clearly his parents would let him.

Roderic 8/10

For the love of god, they need to do an event where he's friends with Leon, I can't take the elephant in the room whenever they're around each other. Anyway, good character, good use of tropes and all, I like how he's so loyal and obedient, but like still can pushback some against Gilbert. Obviously aesthetically pleasing. Also very ninja.

Sariel: 5/10

I like what he is, but at the same time I'm hugely disappointed in what he's not, kinda like a better version of what's going on with Chev. The prologue sold him as way more manipulative and wicked than he ended up being, I thought he'd be more of an antagonist, maybe even a power hungry grey eminence pushing Belle towards choosing a weak king he could manipulate or something. Instead he's very Exhausted Eldest Sibling vibes and helpful in that 'Annoying Teacher Trying to Get the Student to Figure Things Out On Their Own' way. Also not kinky enough by half for someone running around with a whip.

Silvio: 6/10

Unnecessarily abusive towards the MC and his "reason" for hating women is just a bullshit excuse, the writers didn't even try to justify using that trope. Should be far kinkier for someone that into collars, very disappointing. I do like his relationship with Rio a ton, though, and wish we'd gotten more of them during his route. He's cool at the end of his route and I really like his interactions with Gilbert.

Yves: 5/10

I just really don't like cutesy tsunderes and I'm not a fan of his character model in general. He's nice enough in most routes/events and great as a friend/wingman, just not really LI material to me. Wish they'd done more with his Obsidianite background in more routes.

Since it's a ship/character ask I want to preface that everyone can ship what they want and like whatever characters they want and this is my personal highly subjective opinion.

I'll start with my thoughts on Drarry, as I had an arc there, like, back when I just got into the fandom I really liked the concept of Drarry, so I read some Drarry and didn't like most of what I found back then. That dislike kinda colored Drarry and Draco's character as a whole for me, so it was kinda like: "I can see the appeal on paper, but I don't like it". More recently though I read a lot about canon Drarry from @iamnmbr3 and she honestly got me rethinking my opinion on Draco and Drarry.

As I stand on it now, I'm not invested in Drarry, but I see them occasionally on my dash and sometimes I like what I see. It's the: yeah, I can see it happen, but it's not a pairing I'm passionate about.

Now, to @spireasalix more specific questions.

Draco Malfoy is an interesting character in theory but I don't think it comes across in the books as much as it could. Like, in books 1-5, I find him an annoying spoilt little brat. It can be entertaining when he comes on the page, and I know he'd be whining and dramatic and make a scene. And it makes sense Draco is this way, he's an only child of very rich parents who love him, he looks up to his father like Lucius could do no wrong, but he is lonely and attention-seeking. This need for attention is interesting and is part of why he is so obsessed with Harry. It shows he wants approval and is actually quite insecure under all his pride and mean attitude. He was raised to be a blood-supremacist spoilt jerk, and he does a decent job at being a schoolyard bully without crossing any super major lines.

Younger Draco can be a fun character, he's a problem Harry feels comfortable with because he knows how to deal with him, unlike his other problems (of which he has a lot). I think part of why Harry focuses on Draco as much as he does is because Draco is a predictable problem, one Harry feels he has control over how he wants to deal with him. Which is comforting considering how little control he has over literally every other area of his life.

Then in books 6 and 7, that's when Draco starts actually having his character development, and there are interesting things there, or the potential for them. I love what he goes through, becoming a Death eater only to realize, that: no, he can't really do violence. The constant fear for himself and his family, the torture he most likely goes through, being a prisoner in his own home, like, there is so much potential good angst there but I don't feel like the books really take it as far as it can go.

I recently finished my reread of HBP, and Draco in it was having a crap time, truly. He partially brought it on himself, but he really was thrown into the deep end and he is flailing around to keep his head above water regretting ever asking to leave the kiddie pool (because make no mistake, he asked to be in the grown-ups' pool). And you see how he matures there, going from a spoilt brat to a terrified teen. In one summer he went from the top of his own little world to seeing how powerless he actually is. And, like, out of everyone, the person he apparently confides in is Moaning Myrtle, like, idk, I love that, I think this friendship should be mentioned more. Like, Draco is having a crisis over his family, his worldview, his own worth, being a Death Eater and what it means, and his confidant is the ghost of a muggleborn girl who Tom Riddle, his new master, killed. Like, there are some implications.

I find it fascinating Myrtle says this about Draco:

“No,” said Myrtle defiantly, her voice echoing loudly around the old tiled bathroom. “I mean he’s sensitive, people bully him too, and he feels lonely and hasn’t got anybody to talk to, and he’s not afraid to show his feelings and cry!”

(HBP, 462)

That combined with the fact that Draco doesn't ever really try to harm Harry too badly (@iamnmbr3 wrote many great posts about this). Like, at the beginning of HBP, he has Harry petrified and he just breaks his nose. And this is already after he becomes a Death Eater. He also helps Harry multiple times throughout Deathly Hollows, something that places him and his family at risk.

And, yes, he makes some attempts to kill Dumbledore that harm others (the cursed necklace that hurt Katie Bell and the poison Ron drank) but I think the methods he uses are telling. Draco attempts to kill Dumbledore with methods where he himself is far away from the action. You can say it's due to a Slytherin sense of self-preservation, and that's part of it, I'm sure, but I think the main part of it is that Draco is averse to violence. At the end when he was face to face with Dumbledore he couldn't bring himself to cast the curse. Dumbledore was disarmed and surrounded, there was nothing he could've (or would've) done to hurt Draco, but Draco still hesitated. He couldn't kill him even when his own life and his family's were on the line. Harry also talks about how much Draco is likely hurt from having to torture others on Voldemort's orders in Deathly Hollows, and I think Harry is spot on about it.

If we look at the bullying of younger Draco, he doesn't act out violently. He is the cruel words and insults type, and I remember being honestly surprised he physically hit Harry in HBP because it's not the sort of thing Draco does. So, while Draco as schoolyard bully is mean, he practically is never shown to be physically violent, at least not that I remember. He only starts being more of a physical threat in HBP, and in the cases of Ron and Katie, he does so from a distance in a way he isn't directly involved in the violence.

That being said, while what he goes through is interesting and has plenty of potential and I do like his character, I find him kinda annoying. Like, in my very subjective opinion, I find his whining in the early books incredibly annoying and I find him, even in the later books, kinda underwhelming. Like, I want more out of his character, idk. Like, really, all power to you for liking Draco, he just, unfortunately, doesn't make it into my top Harry Potter characters purely because of personal subjective bias.

Like, for all of Draco being a Slytherin from a long line of Slytherins, he doesn't showcase many Slytherin characteristics (yes, that's something I dislike about his character, go figure 🤷‍♀️). Like, Draco isn't cunning, like, at all. He's smart, I'm not saying he isn't, he gets good and even outstanding grades in various school subjects, and he fixes the vanishing cabinet he knows nothing about on his own. He is skilled and talented magically and he can figure out complex magic on his own, but when it comes to long-term planning or general cunning... yeah, I don't think that's part of Draco's arsenal.

He acts out on useful information on the first opportunity he has, with very little thought about timing or how to best use it and very little forethought in general. In 1st year he gets Harry and Co caught outside after curfew but doesn't think his plan through so he too, is caught out after curfew. And sure, he's 11, but 11-year-old Harry wouldn't have made that mistake, I think (neither would Ron or Hermione). In 3rd year, his plan against Buckbeak and Hagrid was laughable and only worked because Lucius could pull it off. I mean, Draco wasn't even doing a good job at faking an injury compared to Harry who could believably pretend to be the Bloody Baron to scare off Peeves at 11, not to mention lying reliably to McGonagall at 12. In GoF he makes these Potter stinks badges, which are magically impressive (considering they still work 3 years later) but are again, an example of Draco acting on something immediately because that's how he tends to operate. Like how he goes straight to Harry every time he finds something in the Daily Prophet to make fun of.

Even if we look at Draco's later plans, like in HBP, he was mostly trying to buy plans rather than think about how to solve his problem. Because Draco knows how to buy his way out of problems, not think his way out. And while all this does make for an interesting trait for him to have in his rule in the story and he has an invisible arc to break away from this thinking pattern and that does lead him to the vanishing cabinet eventually, it does make me like him less. I'm biased, I can't help it.

His ambition is another thing, I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't think Draco is particularly ambitious. Like, he wants to make his parents (especially Lucius) proud, he wants people to like him, and he wants to be popular, sure, but he doesn't have any long-term plans or specific goals in mind. He grew up already having everything, so he doesn't really have any ambitions bigger than that. I'm not saying there needs to be, Harry isn't particularly ambitious either, it's just interesting to me that our poster Slytherin in Harry's year isn't that much of a Slytherin at all.

As I mentioned earlier, Draco also seems to be averse to violence and doesn't have as much of a ruthless streak as his house is usually associated with. Draco, at the end of the day, seems to me like a very sheltered kid who idolized war when he heard about it in stories up until he had to actually take part in it. He is one of the softer characters in the books actually, in my opinion.

While I think he definitely values the traits of house Slytherin as he grew up learning to appreciate them, he doesn't actually possess them, at least, not in abundance. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but honestly, I think Draco is more of a Gryffindor than a Slytherin considering he is brave (in the last book especially. I want to note he isn't the same brave as Harry. Draco fears a lot more than Harry does, but when push comes to shove, he keeps going despite his fear. He's more similar to Neville in that regard), bold, and definitely has his personal code of honor and chivalry he acts according to, but I digress.

My personal issue with Draco is the main issue I have with Drarry as a ship, because, like, I can't be actively invested in a ship when I find one of the characters annoying. I have a similar stance on Romione as I have on Drarry. I like Romione well enough, I enjoy the fanart of them I see, but I wouldn't actively search for fics of them. Neither would I write fics where they are the main pairing. In Romione's case, I love Ron but find Hermione kinda annoying, I don't hate her, I don't even dislike her, I actually like her, but she annoys me. Draco is the same way, I like him, but he just gets on my nerves sometimes.

To summarise, I see the appeal of Drarry, and I can see how it could work on paper. I don't think Harry and Draco ever truly hated each other in the books, so, yeah, I think they could get together. They could definitely forgive each other everything, hell, the books practically outright say they forgive each other everything in canon. I think you can build a very compelling love story for them, it's just not a story I'm invested in reading/writing mostly because Draco isn't a character that I'm overly invested in.

[CONTENT WARNING for mentions of inter generational incest and grooming below, nothing explicit.] Hm. You know, it's a little unfortunate that we have reduced every depiction of characters having a relationship that is at all romantic or sexual in nature (not even, really, I've only ever drawn them hugging LOL) as "shipping". I don't "like" them together in the way I like DU drow and Astarion together, for example, and they never really were together. I made up a story that I find interesting, because I find Orin interesting and wanted to explore her themes more, and liked the idea that hers and Durge's relationship wasn't always "bad".

I really enjoy writing for DU drow, I put a lot of effort into making his story feel fleshed out and suited for the in-game universe. It's a little disheartening that some people may harp on this without considering that there is a wider context beyond it just tickling me, somehow. These are two characters who've never even had sex, in which one of them (Orin) isn't even interested in romance or "mating", and the other one has no concept of healthy relationships, familial or otherwise and just desperately grasps at the one thing he feels a kinship to: to the eventual disintegration of the one relationship he had that approached anything to mutual understanding and relatability.

Theirs isn't a love story, it's a story about isolation and grooming that led to total dependency. If you've been told your whole life that everyone and everything is fated to die at your hand, that your kind is meant to be contained within a genetical crockpot, that debauchery is normalcy and everyone else is the enemy, it is no huge stretch that you would dump all expectations of companionship onto your one, supposed equal - friend, sister, mate, should-be-lover. And then, if you're a bad person on top of that, you won't take no for an answer.

Add to that that your grandfather (Sarevok) is apparently in total agreement and a practicant of the idea of inbreeding for weird purity purposes and you have yourself an environment where an obsession like such can be born - one that Orin wants nothing to do with, because unlike DU drow, she doesn't become distracted by matters of the heart - and hence we have conflict, and we have reason for resentment to brew over time. At some point in the past, they had a "good" (within the bhaalist concept) relationship, and there was nothing sexual or romantic about it. DU drow crushed that. And then he got a worm in his brain for it.

Is that shipping? 🤷 idk

I can't go through losing another ship. I just can't. All I do is lose and honestly? It hurts me like someone I personally knew and loved died. I don't know why it hurts me this deeply. But it's crazy. I cried more when Klaus Mikaelson died than when my grandfather who I loved deeply died. It's not like you can have long term goals at his age. So we all saw it coming and I knew he wanted it and was happy so It brought me comfort.

BUT KLAUS MIKAELSON'S DEATH? Totally unexpected, felt like a huge betrayal. And it just sent me into a deep spiral and I'm still mourning him. Cried for 3 days locked in my room. Every once in a while I still cry. It's been 6 years AND I HATE IT. Because it's so stupid. HE IS NOT REAL. Just ink on a script and fake everything. And yet it hurts. It hurts so much. Losing Klaroline was like losing a part of myself. Something I had loved for so long, something I had invested so much time in, been obsessed with for so long.

And then sometimes karamel makes me cry. They were the representation of true love for me. True soft good love. What everyone deserves. And I cry at their loss. And the injustice of Kara ending up alone and sad. The message that if you are a woman you have to choose to either be strong and independent or be in love. And it was made explicitly clear that Kara wanted to get married and have a family. SHE LONGED FOR IT. But they didn't let her. They punished her for it. The same writers who forced the character to want it. But all the other male superheroes? They were applauded for it.

Most other ships don't make me cry but anger me deeply. Like bellarke and barchie and Hyde and Jackie. REYLO.

And now? I'm terrified for Kastle. I can't lose them too. I thought I was safe. The show was cancelled and there was never a resolution but it ended in both literally confessing their love. Karen begging him to choose her and telling him there is nothing he could do to change her feelings for him. That she would risk it all and run away with him. Him confessing that he doesn't want to feel this. He is not ready to feel this. Who is he without his war? He doesn't know. But he knows he loves her. She means everything to him. I was fine with that ending. Even with him REJECTING HER. Because it was made obvious that he loved her. But his arc wasn't over. He needed more time. And the writers had respect for the ship. Understood it.

But now? I have no idea what they might do. They might pretend they were never anything to each other. They might kill her off. They might betray all of us and destroy the characters completely. Just like with bellarke just like with Hyde and Jackie. Ignore everything stablished and stab us fans in the back. Treat us like we are stupid and undeserving of respect.

I CANT GO THROUGH THAT PAIN AGAIN. I know what it's like and it destroys something in me EACH TIME. Again, it's like someone I loved very deeply died. I don't know why. But it hurts. And I just don't know if I have it in me. I'm so scared. Terrified. More than for my future or for anything.

Orube and Cedric is the "i can fix him" trope done right, and that's why this is one of the best romances I've ever seen in media.

The point is, that actually, Orube never intended to fix Cedric. She did it by knowing her truth and living it, even if that meant going against the one she fell in love with.

Orube showed a great trust and intuition when she turned to a person with a dark reputation loathed by her friends. That was quite a reckless thing, but intuitive things like that fit her somewhat feral nature. Throughout her character arc she had learnt how to be patient and resilient, had learnt the struggles of being a stranger in a foreign world and of staying true to herself no matter the circumstances. And the results of her growth have shown greatly in the Book arc.

But!!! As soon as Cedric showed the slightest suspicious signs, her mercy was over and she would never let her guard down after that. Orube wasn't trying to force anything towards Cedric, wasn't trying to be kinder and softer to him hoping to melt his rotten heart. As soon as he crossed a certain line, she knew she couldn't trust him anymore, although she had been ready to give him a chance. And this was a marvelous writing. After all, how often do we see a female character prioritizing her own values over a man? How often do we see a girl giving up on "fixing" someone who is clearly not ready for that yet?

And Cedric, as one of the main villains of the ceries, was also done justice here. He didn't have a face-heel turn and didn' really become 'good'. Yes, he couldn't think of hurting Orube and even aknowledged his feelings towards her, but this was a possessive and immature kind of feeling. All he wanted was just to have her by his side, without even taking her feelings and values into conscideration. His suggestion to join him in a fight against the Guardians was the PEAK of emotional blindness, and this basically sums up the nature of his feelings and his own character.

And the final change tbat Cedric has aknowledged at his deathbed didn't happen because of Orube's love and devotion to him. It was her resilience, honor and truthness that moved him. Unlike him, she knew exacly who she was and what she was fighting for, and she taught Cedric by example, not by becoming his allforgiving ally.

Conscidering all said above I don't know how to feel about fan versions about their romance rebound after Cedric miraculously survived. Is he really capable of getting over his power-seeking and villain-serving behavior? Would simple life on earth without superpowers and world-conquering ambitions satisfy him? And most importantly, would Orube, who knows her moral code and follows it religiously be able to forgive him? These are the questions left unanswered. And although I would love to believe in a happily ever after for these two, my outlook on their perspective as a healthy couple is not that positive.

Is this a healthy ship? Nope. Is it a good writing and character development? Absolutely! Is happy ending for these two even possible? This is a question I can't answer. It would be nice to see them as a power couple, but that would mean one of them completely abandon their old ways. Would any of them be able to do that? It's really hard for me to tell.

However, despite all above, these two have the sickest chemistry in the entire series without a single kiss. I've been obsessed with them for 10 years and can't get enough.

- What do you think draws you to Elucien as a ship? I've always been attracted to arranged marriage tropes in romance and fanfiction. Lucien was my favorite character from the start, and while reading ACOMAF, I really was hoping there would be some character that seemed promising as his love interest. When his bond snapped to Elain the way it did - so suddenly and without them knowing each other - and then the angst of ACOWAR with her still being in love with her fiancé but tied to Lucien with a bond she didn't understand - OH I WAS COOKED. It was exactly the kind of dynamic I never knew I wanted for Lucien, speaking to a base desire of the kind of set ups I like to read. Elain tends to fall into a category of female characters I'm really drawn to in fiction too so it was all so perfect. As of where they are in canon now, I am desperate for them to interact more. SJM has really been slow burning them and I NEED IT.

- Do you have a favorite Elucien head canon that you’d love to read in their book?

I really love the idea of them having a more tentative, awkward, slow build sort of romance where they are feeling each other out in the beginning as they get to know each other, and there is always this undercurrent of tension and chemistry, desiring each other while fighting those feelings, even if on the outside it seems like they are still stilted and distant. And then as they both start to reveal more of themselves, the speed at which their emotions unravel grows and grows!

I also really like some different tropes I've seen in fics with them like Elain touching his scars, feeling each others emotions, their magic being tied together in some way, Lucien feeling warm to the touch - so many things but beggars can't be choosers.

- If you read fan fic, do you remember what your first Elucien fic was? Or do you have one you are currently reading you’re loving?

I honestly have no idea what the first fanfic was that I read. LOL. As soon as I finished the series, I immediately went to AO3 and just started filtering and reading as I always do when I have a new obsession. My pattern is always to go through a period binge reading and it all blurred together. I do remember I really enjoying certain authors and fics though. Some that I really recommend that are from that early time when I was binge reading are:

When @crazy-ache reached out to me, we really bonded over our shared vision, headcanons, and preferences for Elucien. I love all of her fics and we have written a few fics together. So a lot of my Elucien fanfiction experience in general has been defined by our collaborative relationship! And she has become an amazing friend to me.

Always a combination. I think you need both to have a full experience of their relationship dynamics and also angst makes the fluff sweeter, and without fluff, then you don't have much pulling you through to the happy ending. When I write them in my fics, I always try to play around in both spheres. The drama tends to be more internal than external, though often there is a lot of antagonistic forces at play for them from the outside, driving them either together or away from each other. So I really like the idea of that playing a big role in their book. Maybe just when they start to really express their love for each other, something happens that separates them, and they desperately need to save each other.
