i love the idea of the creature being a physical manifestation of trauma! it reminds me of a xianxia story i've been reading. in most xianxia stuff i've read, heart demons are pretty much just an in universe way of saying "mental illness" without it sounding weird, but in this story they are actual, literal demons that gain a consciousness and physical body when their host dies. so the invisible trauma creature made me think like. the player character had a heart demon, encountered a deadly event, and their heart temporarily stopped. the heart demon was in the middle of manifesting when their heart resumed beating, so it's only half formed and that's why it can't affect anyone else - it needs to kill them so it can finish manifesting

that idea is perfect!! i was struggling so much to put it into the right words, the concept of it on the tip of my tongue but i couldn't really find the right description, but heart demons YES that's exactly it!

it adds such a beautiful layer that the character, although literally designed for the game, had a life before shen yuan transmigrated, and they suffered greatly from a heart demon that then managed to feed on their energy and take over once they "died". only they didn't "die", but gave way to a new host: shen yuan. it being half formed because of the interruption, unable to affect anything else because it's a personal heart demon, stalking him because it needs to kill him to fully take form... anon our wedding will be soon<3

this really ties it all together in an amazing way: the character has a terrible heart demon that managed to take form, then the player comes in, and in the OG game has to fight the heart demon by uncovering their past and building relationships with the npc's. shen yuan doesn't know this, thus thinks he's being stalked by an invisible entity that has nothing to do with him, thus never confronting his own (the character's) past.

this also leaves such a good way for bingge to be introduced into the story: the system works as a game on high difficulty, leading shen yuan around to do tasks that progress the story. but bingge is not of this world, and the system gets confused since this introduces new variables into the equation that it's not equipped to deal with. so, the system does what ai is prone to do: it hallucinates. it knows an entity is stalking shen yuan, it knows this entity is connected to shen yuan and no one else can see it, it knows there is a "heart demon" involved. bingge meets those criteria, thus is put into that same category.

this means that whenever bingge is stalking shen yuan, the system mistakenly attributes this to the heart demon entity, thus giving shen yuan messages with "warnings" and assigning points or tasks that it isn't supposed to. this could mess up the game as well, causing shen yuan to get soft-blocked at certain places, miss essential pieces of lore, or feel unsafe at places that are supposed to be safe zones.

this is amazing, thank you so so much for this ask im absolutely implementing this into the story<3333

Final Battle

ok so... I've got a lot to say about Benrey's Final Boss Fight in my Splatoon AU... I'll put it under the cut but take the time to read it pls :)

okay so here's how I think the final boss fight is going down:

so Gordon wants to leave the digital space and get back to his life, also 'free' everyone else from the digital space as well. They've all tried, of course, before, but have been stopped by Benrey.

Benrey is the one in control of the simulation, but if Gordon can seize that control from him, then he could possibly escape back to the real world and free the rest. In order to do this, Gordon needs to find several Terminals hidden around the digital space and shoot them with his ink (aka linking it to his DNA)

He fights Benrey by traversing up his body and avoiding the skeleton enemies to reach a launchpad that will take him to a terminal. Benrey sets up elaborate playspaces around the Terminals to try and hide them/convince Gordon to stop fighting and just be friends. But once he refuses, the objects in the space will try and trap him.

You progress until you find the shoot the terminal, then you're back at the main area and have to climb Benrey again to get somewhere else. This repeats until ALL terminals have been given over to Gordon and he is now In Control. With this, Benrey is finally shrunken back down to a normal size, glitching etc.

Then Gordon escapes back into the real world...
