the thing about working in childcare these days is that I'm blown away by how open minded and genuinely curious these kids are. there are multiple openly queer kids, who are aware of the intricacy of the queer community and the multi-faceted nature of queer identity.

none of that was around 10 or 20 years ago. queerness wasn't even necessarily taboo during my childhood experiences, it just,,, wasn't taught or talked about, even from one child to another. I just didn't know it was a thing. but these little kids know about intersectionality!!!

and then when I was in high school, kids used 'gay' as an insult, but these kids at my job don't even blink differently when I told them the little queer flag pin on my messenger bag was the aroace flag. some of them ask what it means, because perhaps they've only heard of gay lesbian and trans. (and they've heard of gay lesbian and trans!!!!) I explain my flag and what it means, and it makes sense to them. that would have been alien for me as a ten year old.

some of these little lesbian girls and aroace and bisexual boys, the pan, poly, demigirl and nonbinary little ten year olds are the best friends that little me needed.

it's refreshing and heartwarming to see that the young ones of today are the kind of people this world needs.

very important video by E, please watch it as soon as possible. please keep an open heart & open mind for people in your community. weird labels or not, everyone is under the same group, everyone is fighting the same war— let's do our best to unionize in the coming times.

please. get rid of your radicalized and normative views on queerness. remember intersex people, multigender people, mspec (multiple orientation spectrum), and people who dont neatly fit into certain labels. the world will become meaner and scarier, and we need to start caring about the real issues, in our real lives. please, let's all let go of being

A little Imogen Heaney appreciation post.

What can I say about the adorable Imogen Heaney (played by the beautiful Rhea Norwood) that hasn't been said about her already?

When we first meet Imogen I wasn't sure if I was going to like her very much, she seemed a bit too in your face. But as the episodes go on I grew not only to like her, but to love her. She did have one of the best lines ever... "I'm not like homophobic. I'm an ally" brilliant!

Before she officially becomes a full fledged member of The Paris Squad, it seems she wasn't the best judge of character. She "dated" Ben for fuck's sake. Luckily she came to realise what everyone else knew about that twat. But it was obvious how desperately she wanted a boyfriend, when what she really needed were friends. She got the best group of friends any teen would be happy to be part of.

I really liked her relationship with Sahar as well. Although I felt sorry for Sahar in this situation, I feel.it was something Imogen needed to experience to truly find herself. What that is, we still are eagerly awaiting to find out (hopefully the Heartstopper film will give us the answers we need).

In season 3 we got to see a little more vulnerability from Imogen when on a little uni road trip with Nick, Tara and Elle. Her conversation with Nick in their room was a tear worthy moment for me. Her realisation that she doesn't actually like boys, she just felt pressure to have a boyfriend. I have no idea what she will identify as, maybe she will remain questioning. Not everyone needs to have a label.

Rhea Norwood portrays Imogen to perfection. I can not wait to see where her character ends up since she doesn't appear in the books whatever happens will be a lovely surprise.

Okay, so because it's Pride Month, I'm sure there are going to be many people looking for TV shows and movies with good queer representation.

For that, I present Dead Boy Detectives. It's a dark fantasy Netflix TV show with pretty much everything you could ask for in a show. Super cunty villains, a goth butcher lesbian, an 80s punk, a badass psychic, an Edwardian twink from Hell, an astrology-loving crow, and so much more. This show was made for queer people by queer people, and the representation within the story is beautifully crafted.

Although the show has not yet been cancelled, it also has yet to have been renewed for a new season. Knowing Netflix, it takes a lot to keep a solid queer show running, and the only way to truly ensure that a show gets a new season is to keep watching it. Support queer media and queer stories! Give Dead Boy Detectives a watch!

i work at what's essentially a day camp.

a child came out of the closet to me today. he said he's aroace like me. I saw the smile arc across his face when he heard me get excited at what he said. he's not a shy boy, but he's soft spoken and doesn't really hang out with many of the other kids. but he's gotten comfortable with me. and when he whispered in my ear today that he's known he's queer and aroace for two years, it made me happy to be the adult that he could rely on. I'm becoming the queer adult that little queer me needed. it's healing. and its making sure that the damage is never done to him in the first place.
