Sign Language, Asexuality, and Muppet Intersectionality.

The sign language for Asexual is the same gesture you use to make a Muppet grimace. I refuse to believe this is a coincidence.

You sit quietly on the edge of the bed, legs swinging slightly, the soft fabric of the comforter brushing against your fingertips. The room is dimly lit by the glow of the bedside lamp, casting warm shadows across the walls.

You hear the distant hiss of water stop in the bathroom, replaced by the soft creak of the shower door and the muffled sound of a towel being pulled from the hook.

A few seconds later, Chris steps out, steam trailing behind him like a lazy ghost. His damp hair falls messily over his forehead, water still dripping down his collarbones.

A towel hangs low on his hips, and he rubs at his neck absently with the edge of it, eyes finding you instantly.

He smiles, and it’s soft, just for you. That familiar, slightly crooked smile that always makes your chest feel too small for your heart.

“Hey, pretty,”

He signs with one hand, the other holding the towel in place.

He walks over and stops right in front of you. You look up at him and your eyes meet his. You sign; „What took you so long in there?“

„Don’t know…wanted to be clean for my girl“

Chris signs back.

You let out a little huff, nod and lay back but prop yourself up on your elbows just a few moments later to meet his eyes again.

He comes down and hovers over you before bringing his hand to your chin and tilting it back and placing kisses all over your neck and up behind your ear.

His hands find their way under your arms and slightly lift you up. Chris places you in to middle of the bed before sitting between your legs.

„May I?“

He signs with a little grin on his face.

A grin forms on your face as you sign back

„You may“

And with your permission he hooks his fingers onto the waistband of your pantys and pulls them down. You just lean your head back and let him take care of you.

Just a few seconds later your shirt and pants lay spread across the room and not even a moment later Chris‘ towel follows. He against asks if your fine and as you bring your thumb to your collarbone he gives you a smile before crawling over you.

Chris starts to place kisses along your neck, shoulders and collarbones until he finally reaches your tits. He takes one of your nipples into his mouth and moves it over and around it while his other hand moves to your other nipple.

He moves his body up and looks at you beige pulling his hands in front of his body and signs

„You good?“

„Yeah“

You sign back and watch him position his hips in front of your entrance. He looks up at you another timer waiting for your silent permission. You give him a small nod and just as you do you feel him pushing into you.

You throw your head back against the withe sheets of your bed. As he rocks into you over and over again you feel everything around you just fading into the background.

You him. And you. Here in this moment together-

His tip brushes against your g-spot with every move of his hips. It sends electric shocks through every part of your body. Each and every thrust knocks the air outa your lungs a little more.

In between every few moves he looks up at you, reading your expression for any type of pain or discomfort. But none of that is found, just pure pleasure.

He knew you might not always be able to say something if something felt off, so the two of you came up with your own kind of safe word. If you pinched him twice in a row, no questions asked, he’d stop instantly.

But that’s definitely not what your planing on doing right now. You’re so in your own world that you didn’t even notice how close you were until Chris‘ thumb came up to your clit and started rubbing fast but coordinated circles onto it.

His the other part of his hand makes sure that you don’t close your legs. His other hand is placed on your hip to stabilize him but also to make it easier to move in and out of you.

You lightly tap against his arm three times, a sign that you’re close. As he feels your touch he speeds up his pace and little and shifts all his attention to you, focusing on making you feel good.

He loves seeing you like this, so lost in pleasure, completely in your own world and falling apart for him- just for him and no one else.

His breath fans over your skin, short, warm and uneven, as if he’s just as overwhelmed as you are. His eyes never leave yours now, locked in a gaze so intense it feels like he’s trying to memorize every expression on your face.

Your hands clutch at his shoulders, fingers digging in like you’re trying to anchor yourself to reality, even as your body feels like it’s floating somewhere just out of reach.

Every movement between you is in perfect rhythm now, not rushed, not forced, just natural, like your bodies were meant to find each other in this exact moment.

Chris looks at you and you nod desperately and he knows exactly that what he’s doing is perfect. And just a second later the know that grew tighter and tighter in your stomach snaps with a thrust of his hips.

He grunts and just a second later he lets his head down on your chest while slowing downs his movements and spilling into you.

Chris doesn’t move at first. He just stays wrapped around you, his head on your chest, breathing slowing against your skin. His hand finds its way to your thigh and squeezes gently, once, twice. His silent way of checking in.

You squeeze his shoulder back just as gently. He lifts his head slowly, eyes locking with yours. There’s nothing rushed in his expression now, just soft warmth and quiet concern. He signs slowly with one hand, his other never leaving yours

„You okay?“

„I‘m so unbelievably good“

You sign back while smiling at him.

idk man. i just think itd be really cool if sign language classes were mandatory throughout primary school. yeah because it would make communication with deaf kids and autistic/nonverbal kids much easier. and those kids would be accessible to the others so they could make friends and have healthy relationships. yeah. and kids would eat that shit up man. like their own little secret language? they love that.

Doctor Who is celebrating 60 years by releasing over 800 episodes on BBC iPlayer.

The sci-fi fantasy show first premiered in 1963 and has cemented itself as a permanent fixture in pop culture history. This fall, fans will be able to stream the entire 800-plus episode series along with spin-offs like Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood, and Class, and the behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who Confidential.

this is a niche one but instead of "they would not fuckin say that" it's "they would not fucking use American sign language".

ASL is not the only sign language. two british characters in your fanfiction would not be using ASL. England in fact has its own kind of sign language, BSL, that forms a sign family with many other sign languages around the world.

ASL isn't even the original member of its sign family, it comes from french sign language. do you know sign languages aren't related to spoken languages? that's an important one! it's not a direct 1:1 with people speaking English around the world. people in other countries don't learn ASL just in case they run into an usamerican or Canadian (who do often use it)

i know the entire world is the USA or whatever and sign languages do sometimes borrow from ASL for signs they don't have, but please be aware that there are other sign languages and families in the world that are not in fact ASL.

Steve’s hearing just gets progressively worse with every knock to the head and he just…never says anything about it. No one notices that he can’t hear very well either.

And then one day, Tommy and Carol come into Family Video and they’re kinda giving him a hard time but something is off like, “Dude, do your ears not fucking work? What the fuck?”

Then Keith - of all fucking people - is like, “Yeah, he’s deaf. We get a tax cut for it.”

“How do you know?”

“It’s true?!” Robin asks and then everything goes to hell. “I could I not know???”

The whole party is mad at him and they’re all so loud about that he can hear them.

I have a curious question for anyone that works with sign language.

Some of my clients use a sign language (Auslan) interpreter when they bring their pets into the clinic, usually on a video call, but sometimes in person. So we then have this three way conversation where they sign, the interpreter translates verbally for me, I talk, and the translator signs back to the client.

But we are actually having a four way conversation because I am also talking to the pet.

I will be telling the cat that it’s time to come out of the box, that he’s the bravest most handsome little man. I will thank him for letting me touch his very private tummy and tell him he’s a pretty little gentleman.

Does… does the Auslan translator tell the pet owner what I am saying? Do they use a different facial expression to convey that I am baby taking their pet? Or do they just say ‘the vet is cooing over your cat’?

I will write something nice in the history anyway, but does the client get to know that their cat was a sweet little baby?

How was the experience if you don't mind me asking? Interpreting an unscripted nine person cast with crosstalk and fantasy terms seems like it would be a challenge

Hey there! Yes, that was me 🤩

As a D&D fan, it was one of the most fun experiences of my career.

Unfortunately I was a bit late to the Critical Role train, and I never joined later on as I found it as a piece of media very large and intimidating, but I've been a D&D player since high school, and a Dimension 20 and Baldur's Gate fan. Please accept my back tattoo as proof of my credentials.

Working to interpret the show was me and two other interpreters who put in a lot of work before and during the show to make sure that our audience of 3 Deaf Critters were able to access the show all night. As the D&D super fan, I had to prepare some common vocab for the different skill checks and classes that exist in the game. Especially for the character classes, they don't exist in Auslan but I took inspiration from other Deaf D&D fans who use ASL and BSL. I recorded a video of that and sent it to my fellow interpreters and to the one Deaf Critter I was aware was coming.

During the show, we chose to have only one interpreter "on" at a time. After watching the London show recording, I noticed that barring a few moments of cross talk, the cast don't really talk over each other much, and give plenty of pauses between lines of dialogue, especially when Matt is narrating during scene setting. Having one interpreter meant that we had to "roleshift" by moving our body to different angles to show which character was speaking.

We worked in 15 minute blocks, so we got to have 30 minute breaks when not actively interpreting, but I was watching my co-interpreters the entire time to help prompt with different terms or signs they may need help with, as they weren't as au fait with all the fantasy terms as me.

The Melbourne show is also being interpreted by a team of 3 interpreters who are all D&D fans, and I've made sure to give them as much of a rundown as I can so they can do the best job they can during that show too. I hope it's a good one and I can't wait to hear how it goes! 🤩
