insatiable appetite [1/?]
sooo... this is one of the thirstiest things i have written—and also one of the only times i've written a character with the kink, ever T.T warnings in advance for mess, character getting sneezed on, implied contagion, possible ooc-ness, & me writing this entirely with my d instead of my head
ivan and till are from al//ien sta//ge (a very fun watch which will only take 30 mins out of your life; i really recommend it!!). that said, this fic takes place in a modern au setting, so feel free to read it without any prior context :)
special thanks to @6pmsoup for sending me a very cute alnst doodle of these two which altered my brain chemistry permanently

Summary: Till shows up to a dinner outing with a brewing cold. Ivan suffers. (est. relationship, kink!Ivan, ~2k words)
—
For all Till tries to hide it, Ivan can tell immediately.
There’s this: Ivan has been paying attention to Till for most of his life. A full decade before they’d gotten together officially, and some more—this is how long Ivan has had to observe his tells. Always from the sidelines, always with a detached air of indifference that, in reality, was anything but.
All the signs are there the night before. Till, turning up the thermostat a couple degrees higher than he usually keeps it. Spending a little too long in the shower and using up almost all of the hot water. Clearing his throat one too many times in the morning before Ivan leaves for work, his smile distracted, the rasp of his voice nearly indistinguishable—but only nearly.
Now, Till is here for dinner—it’s a dinner they’ve had plans for a couple weeks now, at one of the nicer restaurants downtown, in celebration of Till’s recent promotion. Ivan had booked the reservation a couple weeks in advance.
When Till arrives, stepping out of a taxi cab, he’s wearing a scarf, even though the weather is too warm for it. Ivan steps up to meet him.Ā
ā€œSorry I’m late,ā€ Till says. ā€œTraffic here was the worst I’ve ever seen it, swear to god.ā€
ā€œWas it cold outside today?ā€ Ivan asks, a little pointedly, tilting his head towards his scarf.
Till looks at him, his expression unreadable. Then he nods. ā€œColder than usual, for this time of year.ā€
ā€œStrange,ā€ Ivan says, just to be difficult. ā€œBut the weather forecast says it’s the same temperature today as yesterday.ā€Ā
ā€œIt’s probably just windier today,ā€ Till says, readjusting his scarf around his neck. His face is a little flushed.
ā€œYour voice sounds a little off, though.ā€
Till clears his throat with a scowl. ā€œYou must be imagining it,ā€ he says. ā€œIt always sounds like this.ā€
No admission, then. That’s fine. Ivan will get the truth out of him at some point. He lets Till guide him into the restaurant.
It’s a nice restaurant—worth the hassle of the reservation, Ivan thinks. Each table is set with flowers arranged tastefully in long glass vases, empty wine glasses turned on their heads. The server—who leads them to their table in a small, private booth—is wearing a suit.
It’s a shame, really. Ivan has a feeling that he won’t be able to pay attention to any of that tonight.
They sit. Ivan looks down at the menu, picks out something at random in a matter of seconds. Truthfully, he can hardly think of anything less worth his attention right now. He turns his attention to Till instead—Till, who’s seated directly across from him, the scarf still around his neck, obscuring the lower half of his face.Ā
Till sniffles, reaching down to turn the page, and oh. The sniffle is terribly liquid—has he been sniffling like that all afternoon? Perhaps it’s a good thing that they work at different offices—Till at a law firm, Ivan as a senior manager at a consulting company—because Ivan certainly doesn’t think he’d be able to get any work done with Till sniffling like that.Ā
It’s not two minutes later that Till is reaching up to wipe his nose against the back of one knuckle. All in all, it’s discreet. Just a quick brush of the fingers against his nose, which is still hidden under the scarf. Though, the look of sheer ticklishness that passes over his features for a brief moment there is...
ā€œWhat are you thinking of ordering?ā€ Ivan asks.
ā€œI can’t decide,ā€ Till answers. He turns the page again. ā€œIt’s between the ribeye steak and the… snf! The pork belly. Is this the kind of place that skimps on the portion sizes?ā€
ā€œNot from their Yelp reviews,ā€ Ivan says. ā€œYou know, if you really can’t decide, I can flip a coin.ā€
ā€œI’ll pick,ā€ Till says. ā€œWhy? Hungry already?ā€
He looks up, now. His eyes are a little watery. There’s a faint flush over the bridge of his nose. Ivan thinks that if he reached out and touched him, he’d probably be running warm. The thought is almost unbearable.
ā€œYour taxi did take forever to arrive,ā€ Ivan says, by way of explanation.Ā
ā€œDid you really wait that long?ā€
He looks uncertain, for a moment. Ivan says, ā€œNot at all. But you know, I’m always impatient when it comes to you.ā€
Till rolls his eyes, but it’s fond. ā€œThere was a meeting that ran late. I wasn’t avoiding you.ā€
ā€œIs that also a part of your new position?ā€ ā€œI guess so, yeah.ā€
ā€œI can see why they were eager to promote you, then,ā€ Ivan says. ā€œHow productive can late afternoon meetings be, anyways?ā€
Till snorts. ā€œNot that important. It definitely could have been an email instead. I was about ready to doze off.ā€
He sniffles again. ā€œOkay. I think I know what I want.ā€ The way he says know betrays the slightest hint of congestion.Ā
ā€œAt long last,ā€ Ivan says, just to be a little bit of an ass. ā€œI’ll call over the waiter.ā€
He flags their waiter down, waits for Till to order first.
ā€œA spiced apple cider,ā€ Till adds on, at the end, with the slightest of coughs. ā€œHot, if you can.ā€
That’s new, too. Till seldom orders hot drinks at restaurants, though he’ll drink tea without complaint if it’s offered. Perhaps his throat hurts, then, from the cold that has clearly started to settle in his system. Subtle, still, but Ivan is familiar with colds like this. He knows it will probably only be a few hours before this deceptively ā€œsmallā€ cold turns into…
Ivan orders, too, and thanks the waiter, who leaves with a curt nod. When he looks back over to Till, there’s a… strange something to Till’s expression, a slight distractedness. Irritation.
Ivan swallows hard. He should look away.Ā
He should, but then, Till’s breath hitches. He pulls the scarf higher over his face preemptively, as if he anticipates having something to have to cover for. The sharp intake of breath that follows is breathy, though Ivan can hear Till’s voice in it. He should really look away.
Instead, he takes the scene in, painstakingly, little by little, as Till’s shoulders jerk forwards. As Till presses a hand to the scarf, presses the fabric closer to his face, to muffle a sneeze into his fingertips:
ā€œhhH-Ih!! hiHH-’IESCHH-eew-!ā€
God. It sounds utterly miserable, the harsh release of it scraping against his throat, the spray tearing into his scarf. It’s the kind of cold sneeze that is undeniably telling: this is going to be one hell of a cold. It’s not very quiet, either, even muffled into the fabric.
For more reasons than one, Ivan is glad they’re in a private corner of the restaurant, not somewhere more public.
ā€œBless you,ā€ he offers, once he can trust himself to speak. It’s a good thing that Till is too distracted to look up at him right now. Ivan isn’t sure he can keep what he’s feeling off of his face.
Truthfully, he isn’t sure he’s going to be able to endure a whole night of this.
The problem here is that Till—Till, of all people; Till, who Ivan has been pathetically in love with for almost as long as he can remember—has no idea about Ivan’s… relatively niche interests. That is to say, he has no idea what effect it has on Ivan when he does that.
ā€œThanks,ā€ Till says, a little stuffily. He sniffles again, lowering his hand.Ā
Ivan can’t help it. He knows he shouldn’t pursue this line of questioning, but he can feel his self-control dwindling by the second. ā€œDon’t you think it would be better to take off your scarf, now that we’re inside?ā€
Till freezes. ā€œY-You know what,ā€ he says evasively. ā€œIt’s pretty cold in here.ā€
Ivan tilts his head in question. ā€œAnd just how do you plan on eating like that?ā€
ā€œI’ll take it off when our food comes.ā€
ā€œI can ask the waiter to turn the temperature up, if it’s a problem,ā€ Ivan says.Ā
ā€œIt’s not a problem.ā€
Ivan rises from his seat. Till watches him, perplexed, as he heads to the opposite side of the table, where Till is seated.
When he gets there, he stops. Stands, unmoving, so he can study Till from above.Ā
ā€œWhat are youā€”ā€
Ivan reaches out, settles his palm across Till’s forehead. As expected, it’s warm. Not quite feverish, which is a good sign, but warm enough to be notable.Ā
ā€œJust how long were you intending to hide this?ā€
Till stares back at him, wide-eyed. ā€œHide what?ā€
Shouldn’t it be obvious? ā€œThe fact that you have a cold.ā€
ā€œI didn’t think it was worth mentioning,ā€ Till says, slowly.
ā€œHmm.ā€ Ivan drops his hand to his side. He is a little concerned, now. ā€œWe could’ve called a rain check.ā€
This time Till really does roll his eyes. ā€œFor the reservation we planned weeks ahead?ā€ he sniffles again. ā€œThat just sounds completely and utterly unnecessary. Are you the type of person to call things off just over a little cold?ā€Ā
Ivan leans over, tugs down the edge of Till’s scarf. Till bats his hand away just a moment too late, cups his other hand over his face to shield his face from view. For a moment, he looks faintly mortified.
Then his expression settles into something more disgruntled. ā€œWhat are you doing?ā€ he hisses.
So uncooperative. ā€œLet me see,ā€ Ivan says. Slowly, gently, he pries Till’s hands away from his face, and then—because the restaurant is dimly lit—tilts Till’s face up slightly so that it catches more of the overhead light.Ā
Till’s nose is redder than usual. He’s probably been rubbing it all afternoon, if the redness that percolates into his cheeks is any indication. There’sĀ  a damp, liquid sheen on the underside of his nose.
ā€œWhat’s there to see?ā€ Till says, a little crossly.
ā€œYour face, since you’ve been so intent on hiding it under that scarf,ā€ Ivan says, leaning in to get a better look.
Till scowls at him, but there’s no heat to it. ā€œYou see my face every day.ā€
ā€œOn the contrary, I don’t see it nearly enough,ā€ Ivan says. ā€œAnd you hardly ever get sick. Is it so wrong for me to be concerned?ā€
Without looking, he reaches behind him with one hand to grab a couple cocktail napkins. The other hand he keeps held up to Till’s cheek.Ā
But then, Till’s breath hitches. ā€œWait,ā€ he says. Panic flashes through his face. ā€œIvan, move, Iā€”ā€
Oh. Well, seeing as there’s no way he’ll be able to get the napkins over in time, it looks like he’ll have to improvise. If Till wants to cover, Ivan can help with that. He moves his hand to cup it loosely over Till’s mouth. Not a second too late, it seems. Till jerks forward unceremoniously, his nose twitching, his eyes squeezing shut.
ā€œhHheh-! HHh’EIITShHh’yYiew!ā€ he gasps sharply. Two? ā€œHh-! hHiiH’DSSCSSHh-IIew!ā€Ā Ā
The jolt of the sneezes is practically electrifying—all of that force, brought to an abrupt halt behind Ivan’s waiting palm. He feels the expulsion of air against his skin, the warmth of Till’s breath, feels the slight dampness behind his hand as the spray mists over his fingertips.
Ivan swallows, hard. Thank god it’s so dark here, otherwise Till might notice what this is doing to him.Ā
ā€œBless you,ā€ he says, withdrawing his hand at last to wipe it on one of the cloth napkins. It comes out slightly raspier than he intends it to, though perhaps it’s a miracle that he’s still able to talk at all. ā€œSome cold, hmm?ā€ Belatedly, he hands Till the stack of napkins.
Till practically snatches them from him, turns aside to blow his nose wetly into the top few. The way he sniffles afterwards suggests that his nose is still very much running.Ā
ā€œDo you have no self preservation? It’s as if you want to catch this,ā€ Till says, drawing back with another sniffle.
Oh, Ivan thinks, fighting back a shiver. That would be far from the worst thing.

i've been considering doing an AJ au but then i found out that AJC and AJPW are somehow connected and it confused me so I considered rebuilding my au lore from the ground up but then i was wondering if it was doing too much and if i should just make sense of canon i'd like some advice ^w^'
In my personal opinion, I think aus are somewhat meant to be a lot of things; whether it's changing the main story line almost entirely or adding things that you want in there to help the canon out a little. There's not really a right or wrong, as long as it stays true to the canon somehow. Okay let's yap
Tumblr media
For example, you could literally go off the canon story entirely and base a whole oc around that canon world, just make sure for others who might wanna look into it know it's still that canon world!
For animal jam however, it's a bit more hard, but it gets easy! Then hard again— it's like a rollercoaster with barely any stops
For my au, P&F, it's a mix of both animal jam worlds (classic and play wild) because even if they're both separate and sometimes the same, they're technically more different than anything story ish wise
But I manage to combine certain elements from each game, making what I truly want from it
But it can't stay like that forever sometimes if the story gets officially updated or adds something that might ruin a plot in your story. So don't really be afraid to make changes if you're wanting to stick with more updated AJ content
Another thing I do for my au is to establish certain characters, events, and most pop-out stories I find intriguing!
I can't say much about this one since my au is still technically a WIP but it's out there.. :]
But anyways, if you're gonna go with what I do, which is use most of the canon story lines and combine it into one just with a pinch of more creativity and some original stuff, I would suggest developing the canon characters and their settings
Depending on what you wanna make for your au, the canon character could have more personality then it's original
I will have to admit, I have done that with some but I keep it close to what their personality is as possible
What I also like to add to canon characters is their own story! Especially for animal jam when you don't really get the right answers.
A good example of what I mean is Greely's adopted family!
It's not much, it barely impacts the story for Jamaa, but it impacts him and his choices later on when he grows :] which is always fun to do!
Let's see... Another thing to help get an au going is by looking at things that would inspire you!
Like other people's aus, songs, even books, hell even the canon stuff might help out!
There is a lot of "canon" animal jam stuff that a lot of people don't really know about like the comics and books for animal jam!
And yeah, there's not a lot of animal jam aus but I have seen some around here and there! Best ones I would look into art pieces for is @bootleggreely , @prztails , and @vioblu-star, they're all really cool artists with interesting stories for animal jam stuff :]
(probably forgetting a whole bunch but yet I wrote this at like 2 am)
Then there's music/songs, the reason why I mentioned such is because it helps me create a scenario in my head when I listen to them! It even help me discover some new ideas I barely knew I could develop!
Another thing to keep in mind is that you don't really have to go all the way with aus, take your time!! It helps a lot, even when you feel stressed over it. Take breaks, you don't always need to focus on animal jam stuff for the au! You don't even need to make a whole book for it, you can just do what I most of the time do and just draw out stuff you like from your stories so far! Even if people don't know the full context!!
Change is always good too! Let me tell you, when I was younger in my animal jam little brain, I had such a mess of a story, now look where it is now! A bit better!
But let's give little me around of applause for predicting Moku'ahi šŸ‘ (this thought still scars me)
Ooo and another thing, if you ever feel doubt in yourself with writing for the au, don't worry about it! You're doing great, but if you want a second opinion or two, ask for it! I'm sure people around you would provide answers if they know animal jam and care about some of the story :] it's always okay to ask for help! Don't be like me who hides in the corner and just writes and draws a lot 🌟
At the end of the day, this is your au, your story, your art pieces, your fun
Enjoy it and always be creative :]

FUCK IT. DEATH NOTE CLASSPECTING. GO:
LIGHT: prince of light. both class and aspect are non-negotiable here. moon-wise i’m actually inclined to assign him derse, if only cause of the whole ā€œaccessing the powers of dark godsā€ thing (guess that makes ryuk a horrorterror? hmm), though prospit would probably fit better personality-wise.
L: prince of void. i’m quite confident in the aspect for this one, though the class is a little more iffy. having them both be princes feels oddly fitting though so let’s run with it. moon-wise i’d actually like to give him prospit, mostly just to be complementary to light, but also cuz it’s funny to imagine him cloud-watching in the piss pjs.
MISA: page of doom. i’m quite proud of this assignment actually, i think it fits quite well w/ her whole thing in canon about being loved by death (though here the terminology would be more like ā€œserved by doomā€). prospit dreamer for sure probably maybe, to be honest i have no fucking idea how dream moon assignment works? fuck it, i’m giving up on that from here onward.
MATSUDA: knight of hope. again, less certain on class, but i think it’s very sweet if he’s a hope player <33 esp since his Belief in light lasts (almost) the whole series…
MELLO: thief of light. making him & light both light players is fucking hilarious to me so we’re rolling with that. also assigning him thief is making me think of vriska parallels now which is vaguely horrifying to consider but he did kidnap sayu and kiyomi so let’s move on quickly now.
NEAR: heir of void. take a wild guess who he’s inheriting that void from, fellas. this one kind of breaks my heart to think about, which i think is a good sign that it fits well. not much else to say, i’ve had this one pretty cemented since one of my earlier astronaut rambles on near, so…
MATT: knight of breath. as we all know, this bitch only shows up for like 2 seconds so there’s probably a lot of room to consider other options here. i just kinda like how this reflects his role in helping mello + being a pretty chill, laid back dude most times we see him, but i’m certainly open to other takes for this one in particular.
NAOMI: sylph of mind. this is incredibly vibes-based. she’s got that interesting mix of brutality paired with loving motherhood-esque associations that feels very sylphy/kanaya to me, plus an analytical approach that feels fitting of a mind player.
BEYOND: heir of heart. there’s a lot of aspects that could fit beyond, honestly— blood, rage, doom, and time are all other considerations that could easily work as well. i just like heart for how he mimics L, and heir makes an interesting connection between him and near, though i considered mage too. also heart to match naomi’s mind etc. etc. (you may notice i’m quite partial to good connections/pairings like that, even if it doesn’t fit the individual perfectly— classpecting is just as much a social thing as a personality test, in my mind. but i digress.)
KIYOMI: maid of life. i haven’t essay posted about kiyomi much but this one seems kinda fitting, though she perhaps interprets this title in a slightly different way than jane. someone go angst about kiyomi a little more so i can get a clearer read on her. life is also to match misa’s doom, as well as…
MIKAMI: knight of doom. i’m kinda hesitant to have two doom players on this list since they’re supposedly somewhat rare, but really, what else would fit for mikami? serving light his doom is basically his most notable action in the story, ultimately. guess it makes sense that DN would have a lot of doom about it, or at least it seems more like a doom series than, like, a rage series. in my humble correct opinion.
SOICHIRO: knight of blood. one final one where i’m more confident in the aspect than the class, but i think this one ultimately works— albeit in a very different way from karkat, ofc ahhakdjf. he serves his family, he works for the benefit of People. the tired dedication of blood just feels very soichiro all around.
