let's talk about Grace Chow. let's talk about how she breaks the sanctity and safety of the Juke Joint when her daughter is threatened. and let's talk about how it is classic white supremacy.
the movie deftly shows us that the Chows walk between worlds and racial boundaries-- neither white nor black, not accepted by white supremacy but more accepted than black people. and we see that the Chows have aligned themselves with the black community, proven themselves as allies and community members, creating a coalition.
but we also see how white supremacy breaks that coalition. under the roof of the Juke Joint, everyone is family. everyone's ancestors are called by Sammie's music. but how does Remmick appeal to Grace to usurp Annie and Smoke's authority, to let the possessed cannibalistic mob ravage the safe space built in the Juke Joint? why by threatening her family of course. her "real" family.
I feel it's quite intentional that the specter used to taunt Grace is that of the assault of her daughter-- the "protection" of daughters specifically has been used as the justification for much white supremacy, especially lynchings. "your daughter is in danger, you need to sacrifice your coalition to save her" it is an invitation to white supremacy. identify with the white world, sacrifice the world of black people (painstakingly wrought in constant struggle, as the movie shows).
Grace is experiencing the full force of white supremacy brought to bear as a threat against her, something her black compatriots are well used to. she crumples. it is understandable. it is unacceptable.
historically, this is how it goes, how it has gone.
your loyalty to the shared community must be stronger than your loyalty to your specific family, to your specific ethnicity, or else you are susceptible to white supremacist infiltration. many many groups have failed this test. and this is why activism must center black people and their needs first.
learn from Grace Chow. we can be better.
#sinners#sinners 2025#grace chow#k.txt#feel this esp strongly as a white trans person-- i cannot allow myself to be the weak link that puts my sisters of color in danger#i cannot trade a tiny bit of my personal safety for the endangerment of the rest of my community#and while I am white i am also jewish and i walk between worlds. i cannot be the path that brings white supremacy! it is my responsibility!

incredible article that really captures how I've been feeling about participating in Jewish spaces in the last couple of years. extremely tough read. not rebloggable because I'm not interested in anyone arguing with me about this, lol. we are not allowed to kill people I know this for sure.
I think that it is written from the perspective of a Jewish objector and if that's you you will find it especially meaningful and in some ways reassuring because it's hard not to feel alone when surrounded by people who are constantly excusing Israel's actions. but I think that gentiles would also find meaning in it probably. happy Hanukkah! 🫠
#jewish#israel palestine tag#this article mentions many dead children by name as well as the way that they died#as a content warning/heads up#there are no images though. just links.#god this is a tough read but it made me feel so seen. the part about not being able to see an Israeli flag without wanting to tear it down#the part about being angry that it's based on a tallis#every part.

I said I'd never do jumblr content again and yet here I am because this keeps coming up and it's like the only thing I can think about. That said I will not hesitate to turn off reblogs if y'all are horrible in the notes again, and be warned that I will be blocking anybody who supports any of the theories I mention immediately
There is no such thing as a conspiracy theory that isn't antisemitic. There is no such animal
Antisemitic conspiracy theories go back thousands of years. The ones that still have the most hold on culture to this day are the blood libel, and the protocols of the elders of zion
The blood libel was an accusation that would be brought against Jewish populations in Europe often but especially around Passover claiming that we were killing Christian children for ritual purposes, usually to use their blood for baking matza or other nonsense (it is important to me that you know that this is nonsense. It is horrible and damaging but also to the core a ridiculous lie that never at any point made any sense. They just didn't care). Debatably this trope is present in the merchant of Venice. Undebatably Jews were killed because people did and still do sincerely believe this
The protocols of the elders of zion is a fictitious document published in Russia at the very beginning of the 20th century, supposedly detailing the meetings of the Jewish people who secretly run the world. The protocols were almost immediately proven to be a rip off of another document - ah, plagiarism - but that hasn't stopped antisemites from embracing it wholeheartedly (special thanks fuck you to Henry Ford for publishing them in his newspaper, spreading it across the USA). It built on previous antisemitic tropes, from the greedy banker trope (Jews were forced to be money lenders in medieval Europe as it was forbidden in Christianity and Jews weren't allowed to join any guilds, preventing them from making money in any other capacity - the reason why there are so many Jews in Hollywood is identical, but in the early 20th century) to the concept of dual loyalty (i.e. Jewish are loyal to ourselves above all else and cannot be trusted to be loyal to the country where we live, see: modern trope that every Jew is probably loyal to Israel and the subsequent idea that it's okay to ask every single diaspora Jew how they feel about Israel immediately upon meeting them). It's also worth noting that the word cabal, used to denote the shadowy organizations that supposedly control the world, comes from kabbala, which is Jewish mysticism
The idea of lizard people, created by a guy literally named Icke because he is a gross human being, was designed to repackage the antisemitic shadow cabal concept to be supposedly more palatable
Most qanon theories also build on all of this, such as world leaders preying on children (remember pizzagate?)
But more importantly conspiratorial thinking always positions you as the good guy standing against a mysterious "them", an other which is influencing things behind the scenes. The Jew is the ultimate other, and specifically an other that supposedly forms a shadowy world government, controlling everything and yet somehow not managing to get rid of antisemitism (see: protocols of Zion, lizard people, we control Hollywood and the government which is of course conspiring against you). There is no way to decouple the idea of an evil shadowy organization (usually also referred to as a cabal to really hammer it in) from antisemitism and antisemitic tropes
And this means that even supposedly "harmless" conspiracy theories attract antisemites and train people who aren't necessarily rabid antisemites to confirm those kinds of biases. Obviously Qanon and lizard people are antisemitic, but what does the moon landing have to do with Jews? Well, it was Hollywood and the government that faked it, obviously. Hell, even the conspiracy that Taylor Swift is secretly a lesbian and is either still secretly dating or is exes with Karlie Kloss is riddled with antisemitism -
Okay so I need to explain my position on this because I fucking hate this conspiracy theory, and the fact that most people simply won't acknowledge that that's what it is. Firstly, Taylor Swift has stated that she is not gay or considers herself an ally at least three times off the top of my head, and specifically denied that she was dating Karlie Kloss. Secondly, outing people is wrong. Thirdly, the conspiracy theory hinges on the idea that she would be risking her career by coming out, except that she's proven that basically no controversy can come in the way of her career, she's already "come out" as an ally, donated to glaad and the equality act, promoted queer musicians & artists & designers (there was a song in the reputation tour that was dedicated to a gay designer every single night of the tour). So what's stopping her from coming out at this point? Mysterious forces, clearly. The antisemitism in that I've already explained, but also the virulent antisemitism among Kaylor shippers aimed at her husband and at the fact that she converted to Judaism is fucking disgusting
Again: even a supposedly harmless conspiracy theory leads to antisemitism and attracts antisemites
A few years ago I tried to rewatch white collar cause I remembered really enjoying that show as a preteen and after around a season I just couldn't stand it anymore, because all I wanted to do was jump into the universe and yell at Mozzie to shut the fuck up because these conspiracy theories were barely presented as a joke and never challenged even once by any of the characters. When I rewatched that 70s show it also fucking sucked, but at least it wasn't showing up in every single episode. The blacklist focuses entirely on a literal Cabal, that's what they're called
This stuff is so normalized and it's fucking everywhere and it's exhausting. Jews are to this day being murdered over this. I can't change the world by myself, unfortunately, but if you don't have a specific person to blame for your troubles, shut the fuck up. Just shut up. There is no conspiracy against you. Sometimes life just sucks. Or definitely does for the Jews who get shot at over this shit
Again, I'll be blocking anybody who parrots this bullshit in the comments but especially fucking gaylors y'all are one of the main reasons that being a fan of Taylor Swift's music is fucking unbearable. Just accept you can connect to music made by somebody different than yourself it's not that difficult of a concept

Welcome back to DJ's Jewish American Heritage Month nearly-almost-daily fun facts!
Day 4: Chanukah is not our most important holiday -- Shabbat is! 🕯✡🕯
If you all had to guess what the most important holiday on the Jewish calendar was, I bet most of you would say Chanukah. The more learned among you might say Passover or Rosh Hashanah, not entirely incorrectly. Some Jews might suggest Yom Kippur, which is often the only day on the Hebrew calendar in which unobservant Jews attend synagogue services. We actually do have a ranking system for their holiness, but that’s besides the point here—I’ve just fed you a trick question. The most important holiday in Judaism isn’t even a consideration to most gentiles. It’s the span of time from Friday night to Saturday night, otherwise known as Shabbat.

Shabbat is a weekly holiday that starts as soon as the sun sets on Friday night. 18 minutes before sunset, the women of the household gather together over the Shabbat candles (unless there are no women in the household, in which case men are permitted to perform the mitzvah instead). We light the candles, then waft the heat to our faces, and cover our eyes to say the bracha:
Baruch atah adonai, eloheinu melech ha’olam, asher kid’shanu b’mitzvotav, vitzivanu l’hadlik ner shel shabbat.
When we’re finished, we say “Shabbat Shalom!” and embrace. In my family, the song “Shalom Aleichem” is sung to welcome the angels to our celebration. A blessing is said over the children of the household, then over wine, then over two loaves of challah which are covered with a decorated cloth and sprinkled with salt. Then it’s time to eat!

Shabbat is simple, but it’s effective. It’s a time for gathering with our family, singing, and having a special meal together. It’s also a time for creative solutions to a number of prohibited activities. There are 39 types of prohibited labor during Shabbat, including many things that a modern person would not consider "labor", such as erasing or untying. There is also a prohibition on making anyone or anything else work for you, which means exactly what you think it does: no cars, no electric lights, no cell phone. Not even elevators. In Israel and in Jewish businesses, hospitals, and community centers, elevators will stop at every floor on loop from Friday night to Saturday night in order to allow movement between the floors for observant Jews who may need the accommodation, as the rabbis have determined that you cannot be making the elevator work for you if it’s going to each floor of its own volition. You can’t light or extinguish a flame, including electricity. This is exactly as inconvenient as it sounds. Orthodox households will sometimes turn on lights in the kitchen and living room before sunset and leave them lit until the next sundown. It would be great if there was a way to get around the transportation issues, but generally, one walks. I don’t personally observe the labor prohibitions, but that’s not to say that I don’t respect them. Even at my non-Orthodox synagogue, my family and I prefer to walk to the Saturday morning services unless there’s a time or health related reason not to.
Shabbat concludes with the lighting of the braided havdalah candle, which is lit when three stars can be observed in the sky and then extinguished into a cup of wine after a small ritual. A bit of lore around Shabbat is that Jews obtain a second soul, a piece of the shechinah (the feminine aspect of G-d), during the holy day, and gracefully relinquish it when the light of the havdalah candle is snuffed out.

So this all sounds pretty standard. How is it the most important holiday of Judaism?
Its observance is dominant of all other holidays, including the holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur. Everything is suspended when Shabbat begins. Funerals are delayed, weddings are scheduled away from them, and other holiday observance is altered to give Shabbat its grace.
It’s a unique function of Judaism to have the day of rest be the most important of all observances, especially since it happens weekly, and can make other holidays more cumbersome to observe. The keeping of Shabbat is often said to be what makes Am Israel a nation. Thousands of years of Shabbat rituals have kept our people united over long distances, reminding ourselves of who we are and where we come from once a week, every week, no matter where we go in the world. Things change, but Shabbat stays the same.

HAMAS Guidelines to Social Media (excerpts)
Anyone killed or martyred is to be called a civilian from Gaza or Palestine, before we talk about his status in jihad or his military rank. Don't forget to always add 'innocent civilian' or 'innocent citizen' in your description of those killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Begin [your reports of] news of resistance actions with the phrase 'In response to the cruel Israeli attack,' and conclude with the phrase 'This many people have been martyred since Israel launched its aggression against Gaza.' Be sure to always perpetuate the principle of 'the role of the occupation is attack, and we in Palestine are fulfilling [the role of] the reaction.'
Beware of spreading rumors from Israeli spokesmen, particularly those that harm the home front. Be wary regarding accepting the occupation's version [of events]. You must always cast doubts on this [version], disprove it, and treat it as false.
The interior ministry prepared a series of suggestions specifically for Palestinian activists who speak to Westerners via social media. The ministry emphasizes that conversations with them should be conducted differently from conversations with other Arabs.
When speaking to the West, you must use political, rational, and persuasive discourse, and avoid emotional discourse aimed at begging for sympathy. There are elements with a conscience in the world; you must maintain contact with them and activate them for the benefit of Palestine. Their role is to shame the occupation and expose its violations.
Avoid entering into a political argument with a Westerner aimed at convincing him that the Holocaust is a lie and deceit; instead, equate it with Israel's crimes against Palestinian civilians.
The narrative of life vs. the narrative of blood: [When speaking] to an Arab friend, start with the number of martyrs. [But when speaking] to a Western friend, start with the number of wounded and dead. Be sure to humanize the Palestinian suffering. Try to paint a picture of the suffering of the civilians in Gaza and the West Bank during the occupation's operations and its bombings of cities and villages.
Do not publish photos of military commanders. Do not mention their names in public, and do not praise their achievements in conversations with foreign friends!
Recently I came across a bunch more ancient/old maps of the Middle East, Near East, Levant, Israel, and others. Lucifer's Fall from Heaven: Stairways AU
Heaven says that Hell was born when Eve ate the Fruit of Knowledge from Lucifer, that her choice brought Evil into existence. This is not true. All the fruit did was break the binds of Heaven that tied her to her destiny.
Heaven created Destinies to tie all of Humanity back to Heaven. Their entire lives would be laid out for them, their souls essentially programmed to be a certain way and do certain things. This does not mean humans would always be good, but everything would be for the Greater Good, according to Heaven. Humanity would not be aware of this, as they would believe they have free will, but in reality, every human action would be tied to the Devine Plan to return to Heaven.
Had Eve not eaten the fruit, Humanity would be Bound by Destiny, with no choice truly being their own. So long as they would have returned to Heaven, it did not matter to the Seraphim if Humans did not have a choice. All Seraphim except for Lucifer. Lucifer thought Heaven was cruel to create a species only to bind them to Heaven’s will. For what was the point of living if you did not get to choose how you live? The majority of the Seraphim thought that without Destiny tying Humanity to Heaven, that Humans would fall prey to Sin, barring them from Heaven’s Gates. But Lucifer thought differently. He thought that Humanity was inherently drawn to Good- God All High created them, after all, and what were God’s works if not Good? He truly believed that. But unfortunately for Lucifer and for all of Humanity, he was wrong.
Because Lucifer gave Eve the Fruit, he was banished from heaven to the Underworld, which was then Ruled by Titans. Heaven was angry that Lucifer had broke the Binds of Destiny and were in turmoil. This is when the Youngest Angel, Zadkiel, spoke out, and called for mercy on Humanity.
“We do not know that Humanity will only do evil without their destinies tied to Heaven. The fruit was the knowledge of Evil and Good, so we must have hope that Humanity will also do good.”
Heaven was tentative at this. The young seraphim had a point. But the fact remained: Not all of Humanity would be good. Because of Lucifer’s folly, it was almost certain that much of Humanity would be able to get into Heaven, thus dooming their souls forever.
One Seraphim, Nubia, suggested a system of weights and balances: each soul would have thier sins and virtues weighed against the other, and if the virtues outweighed the sins, then they could be let into Heaven. Minor sins are lighter than most virtues, like stealing food and feeding the homeless and poor, or telling a small lie to protect someone.
so if someone did something Very Bad in the name of doing something Incredibly Good, say kill one soul to save a thousand souls, and doing so truly saved them, then that soul would get into heaven so long as they had no other sins to outway the good deed of saving a thousand souls. This system worked for a time, and Lucifer and Lilith were informed of such, and it was scribed in their history books.
Despite this good news, Lucifer was still damned for eternity to only see the souls rejected by heaven; sinners. Lucifer will never truly know the good that came of his actions, doomed to reap the fruits of his hubris for eternity. He hates the sinners for not being good enough in life to get into heaven and spends most of his time isolated in his castle, wallowing in self-pity.
Notes: It bothered me how Hazbin Hotel just vaguely mentioned that Eve eating the apple granted humanity free will, thus bringing evil into the world, without ever elaborating on it in the show. It also bothers me the Seraphim don't know what it takes to get into Heaven, so I've resolved that issue in my Stairways AU. The problem in Stairways isn't that the way into heaven is unknown - it's that the criteria to get into heaven is too strict, creating an overflow in Hell and a need for a Third Place for people who aren't necessarily Sinners but aren't virtuous enough to get into Heaven.

are you pro-israel/anti-palestine?
hi, first, i appreciate you asking very politely and not assuming things.
i’ll say i’m a zionist, which isn’t an offensive word. i believe in the right of the jewish people for self determination in the form of a jewish state in the land of israel, the promised land of the jewish people.
i find calling israel, the only jewish state in a sea of muslim/christian states, an “ethostate” and mocking the jews for feeling the need in one, as very antisemitic rude and offensive. that goes without mentioning how ignorant and rude it is to claim all jews are white europeans. literally cancelling the whole rich history of the jewish people in the arab countries (which they were mostly chased out of as well).
the need to live within your given or chosen community is such a natural thing, even animals do it. for some reason, when it comes to israel and the jews, it’s wrong. before anyone starts, please let me remind you that within this very large jewish community, there are 2.5 million arabs (mostly muslim, some christian). they share equal rights, a citizenship and an israeli ID/passport. yes, even the sister of the top hamas man (who was arrested this week for having documents and money linked to hamas, a terror organization).
that being said, i am in no shape or form, nor never was i, anti palestine. i think it’s just not as simple as some people who joined the hot trend across the world see it. the state of palestine was never established for many reasons that don’t involve the jewish people. i do mean this when i say i do wish the palestinian people a safe and established land, but it’s simply not that easy. it really isn’t no israel=yes palestine. they have so many other needs other than demolishing the land of israel. their inner conflicts are very much alive to this day (google fatah/hamas conflict), their lack of actual support from neighboring countries and other reasons they have there. they’re really not at a good starting point, but no one ever talks of that. it’s just easier to masturbate to the idea that protesting in favor of demolishing israel and sending +-7,000,000 jews to fuck knows where will be enough.
let me make it clear, the fact that civilians are being killed and hurt breaks my heart. i say this knowing fully well that many took part in the oct7 massacre. generations, on both sides, being brought up with nothing but hate and fear of each other boiled up to this disaster. which is why i find the whole western pro pal movement, spreading fake news and hate and deepening the conflict, as not just offensive, but also very dangerous. for both sides (+diaspora jews). calling hamas freedom fighters and not the terror organization that they are is as dangerous to the palestinians as as it is dangerous to israelis/jews. they are given actual legitimacy for actions that are considered extremist and terror on an international level. yes, they do hide in UN protected facilities, using inocentes as human shields. and when we say the west is next, it’s not just a spicy slogan, it’s not really about the jews, but the western culture.
i am very angry of the way the hostages are being ignored or bluntly canceled (ripping off their posters everywhere). it’s hypocritical and very upsetting. i will also mention that i seriously don’t appreciate using the jewish holocaust and appropriating it’s terms and the well known generational jewish trauma and mocking it.
lastly, i would like to mention that a lot of what’s happening right now around the world just proves the need in a jewish state. being close with an army that’s main goal is protecting its people literally feels safer for jews even under missiles and terror attacks. let me inform you that the main reason that israeli casualties are lower, is the invention of the Iron Dome, operated by the IDF. It has saved thousands of civilian lives since it’s first use. no, it wasn’t hamas’ more humane ways or idk what i read. israel literally spends every last dime to keep it’s people safe, while hamas won’t even let the palestinian people have a safe hospital. instead of mocking our worries and constant feeling of being persecuted and in danger, to the point that a jewish state feels like a life or death matter, maybe try to think what you can do to change that. saying we’re delusional or closing mouths when we claim for antisemitism isn’t helping, and it sure isn’t what’s currently happening in the world and social media.
again, thanks for asking. i have so much more to say and that’s before actually going into current antisemitism or even into october 7th, i just think i’ll stop here for now. i hope this somewhat answers your question.
