MUSIC REVIEW: The Mark of the Beast (666) by Willie Hutch

A very good soul record with a badass cover, The Mark of The Beast has great composition, especially in the signature Willie Hutch orchestral chords, primarily in the string and horn sections. The drum performace on this record is also very good. This record also features the signal vocal stylings of Hutch himself, which in my opinion is one of the main appeals of Hutchs music The lyrics vary in subject matter from Christianity, love, and the golden rule. Some standout tracks include "Woman You Touched Me," "Don't You Let Nobody Tell You How To Do Your Thing," and "Life's No Fun In The Ghetto." It gets off to a mediocre start but it's overall a great listen.

As of listening to this record, my top 10 list of recods is as follows:

I've ranked The Mark of The Beast above Because The Internet because it coveys it's emotions in a more subtle and palatable way and features more pleasant emotions and messages. It also has, in my opinion has a decent enough range, and even if it has an abundance of range less than because the internet it doesn't matter, because The Mark of The Beast has a more fleshed out and complete sound. I've ranked it below The Stranger because The Stranger has better storytelling and range.

I was running this afternoon, and when a guy passed me they flashed the 'devil's horn' sign as they went by.

I was jogging backward at the time (and considered that maybe it was just a random gesture and while that's possible, I don't quite buy it).

Wait, so what is the supposed beast mark supposed to be a sign of? Does it symbolise anything? Asking as a non Christian. Do Catholics believe in it?

The Mark of the Beast comes from The Book of Revelation, which was a thinly-veiled prediction of the fall of the Roman Empire. (At least, it's very thinly-veiled if you understand anything about the context it was written in.)

The book essentially predicts that Rome is going to get even more aggressive and violent about the whole Imperial cult thing, and will force everyone to take a visible mark on their right hands or foreheads to show their allegiance to the Emperor. For John of Patmos, worshiping the Roman Emperor is action worthy of eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire.

And I couldn't tell ya what Catholics think about the Mark of the Beast; I'm mostly just familiar with Evangelical conspiracy theories about it.
