Angela Orosco Silent Hill 2
#in anticipation of the incoming remake#i tried my best to imitate the SH font but#silent hill#silent hill 2#angela#angela orosco#theme of laura (reprise)#i've said it before but in spite of its occasionally clunky diction i think silent hill 2 is an unusually emotionally intelligent game#for any year and still today but especially so for where gaming storytelling was in 2001#and for as many pitfalls a story like hers could've dipped into i think it particularly shines through with how they treated angela#not just choosing to depict victimhood as something that can be ugly and fractious and open quote âdifficultâ but then this#actively rebuffing james for trying to offer hope and dressing him down for it too#âi know you mean well and want to help but this isn't a simple problem"#âand it's really hurtful and a bit insulting that you act like you canâ#the switching to a first person view turning it into an address to the player as well#maybe even old videogame tropes too#âthis isn't some princess in a castle kind of situation dude this is more serious than thatâ#it felt like a very deliberate statement about the depth and severity of a trauma like this#and in doing so showing it so much respect#there is no quick easy solution to this and you won't get one#then angela just leaves#and you never see her again#i really don't think it was to imply that it consumed her i think it was to underline what was just said#this isn't your problem to fix#this is where your part in this story ends#there's some strength in that

absolutely devastating that i actually have the art skills now to produce the dating sim/visual novel my teenage self dreamed of and the only thing standing in my way is being a very mid storyteller and even worse at coding
#ramble#maybe one day if i can come up with a gimmick akfhddk#12 year old me did not spend hours fighting renpy on the family computer to give up now#it started bc i was obsessed with a game called 'dandelion' which is#uhhhhhh the predecessor to something a lot more popular. that studio makes one (1) kind of game#and also has the best opening theme of anything ever#it can't be THAT hard#it's just a really really long really complicated dialogue tree#i used twine a lot at uni maybe that's something

Okay. Since we're going over all the takes on Mr. X at this point.. What if his powers really don't have a backside. What if (the state of) his normal life is the backside.
What if his normal life is akin to that of heroes where he has to pretend to be something he's not and follow rules that the people who control his life came up with to further their own goals. What if he can only be free of other people's beliefs and expectations when he's a hero.
What if in reality he truly is like everyone else. The other heroes. The ordinary people. All those who work themselves to the bone, who are tired and overworked and sick of all the exploitation...
What if when he's in the form of the number one hero.. when he becomes the most sought after product on the hero market..
Is when he gains the freedom to truly be himself
#to be hero x#tbhx#hero x#considering one of the first things they revealed to us in the trailers was that he's a white-collar worker...#we definitely need to think about that if we wanna try to predict / guess what he's actually like#this thing feels very lin ling coded but lin ling is tbhx coded (introduction to the main themes of the show)#so I feel like my best prediction rn is that he's actually the other side of the same damn coin#(cue the coin flip clip from the opening *coughs*)#I think from a writing perspective the whole downside thing is based on a characters perception#so if the writers make us think that X is an omnipresent all powerful god#then it just makes sense to reverse it by revealing that the opposite is equally as true#and then he'd have an even stronger incentive to want to break the system cuz both of his lives would've been defined by exploitation#maybe not the bright side of X (at least not after he became No. 1) but I don't think being the best product makes him no longer a product#ACTUALLY#âbright sideâ was supposed to refer to his hero identity bc of the black & white switch he has going on but#yeah calling his normal self the âdark side of Xâ would definitely reinforce the idea that it's the not so good parts he hides#and we've not much of normal X yet (other than his sugar stealing. you go boy exploit the company back for sugar. I believe in you) but!#we all know there's darker times coming. right.#I don't think they're gonna reveal his normal life to have a sad backstory or Idk (there's gonna be enough of that elsewhere anyways haha)#but we've definitely only seen the top of the iceberg for now#btw yes I do think capitalism & the CEOs are gonna be the real villains#and X is probably playing their game to win#yes all along you were reading my âX is actually anti-capitalistâ propaganda#we're gonna go free heroes (at a cost) :))#ice demon talks#tbhx theories#tbhx analysis

To the âthemes I am picking up on in Veilguardâ list, let's go ahead and add what I have a sneaking suspicion will actually turn out to be The theme:
â the world has changed and can never be as it was again.
â I have been changed and can never be who I was again.
â in this simple unavoidable truth there is endless grief and endless hope.
And I⊠may be getting a bit emotional about it haha. Let me show my work a bit:Â
if da:o is a game about people who are already dead or half ghosts in some form (through societal forces, psychologically, functionally, literally, in body, through the joining etc.) coming together anyway to save the world from being swallowed by total nihilism and despair (symbolized by the blight) through the power of love and friendship and also this sword/potential heroic sacrifice that I found, da2 is a game about people who have lost their homes and been set adrift finding and building new homes in each other (while completely failing to save the world. also through the power of love and friendship. as well as years of petty bickering <3 we must imagine kirkwall if not happy then worth having been because the love was there the love was there and that's the only sanctifying force we can ever have in this doomed world and city of ours), and da:i is a game about old stabilizing-but-unjust comfortable lies vs. disruptive but potentially liberating uncomfortable truths, and the power of friendship to help us distinguish the one from the other and navigate through them...
folks⊠I'm starting to think that veilguard might be a game specifically about moving towards recovery and acceptance after trauma â about how even in this flawed, severed, scarred state, what is here right now is worth loving and worth caring for. even in an imperfect and impermanent world and self, there is worth and joy. and of course the first real tragedy â and threat â of Solas is that he just cannot find it in himself to accept this and move on, to let go of what was, the regret wonât let him go or he wonât let go of it. which means that even though on the surface itâs Elgarânan and Ghilanânain (and the will to subjugate and violate they represent) who are the main villains, the real antagonistic force in this story beneath that is the Dread Wolfâs despair. A despair Rook must make an answer to by the end of the game, one way or another, compassionately or with righteous fury, triumphant or pyrrhic.
The world will change again and again and so will you â BUT the crucial element is that so will everyone else who exists along with you, you are fundamentally not alone in this existential truth. all weâll ever have is each other and my god that is plenty, my god that is enough!!! Which is the second thing Solas just canât accept, he keeps himself separate and completely alone out of an awful mix of fear and pride and feeling himself unworthy of anything else. Rook and the player want to save the world of Thedas because itâs where everyone we love lives, Solas wants to go back to the past because thatâs the only neighbourhood where he can still visit those he loved â and the person he himself was, before. A very sympathetic and human instinct/trap to fall into when touched by trauma, I think, if only it wasnât backed by godlike power, a fundamentally oppositional personality, and a catastrophic lack of therapy to make it literally everyone elseâs problem too lol. Itâs varric and solasâ banter about the man on the island and where meaning in a life comes from all over again, writ large and with detail work â and the added idea of âwhat if there are also other islands out there, though. With other people on them that you could find if you reach for each otherâ. Rook with the best of intentions has to make choices to which there are no perfect outcomes and live with what happens â and not cut themselves off from everyone else around them even when there is regret or shame. You get back up every day and you make a life with other people doing the same and you do your best, and thatâs the only victory this world will give you. In the end, that is more than enough, that is essential. And I um. I love that. So much. Itâs why some of the writing clumsiness on top canât hurt me because this thematic spine is so solid and so beautiful to me. Itâs DA2 all over again that way for me personally â I forgive this story for what it isnât and couldnât be, and I love it with my whole stupid open heart for what it actually is. Thank you for coming to my TED-talk and goodbye etc.     Â
(For my fellow TLT heads out there â you know what this story is reminding me of most of all, actually? It has some big Nona the Ninth vibes down there in the deep. Itâs about⊠the horror and unspeakable beauty that can only be found in liminality, and the role of love in making that basic fact of existence bearable. And also even more unbearable at the same time. I'm so sorry.)
#I told you all I was going to be extremely myself about this. I suppose we all hoped I was joking. even while knowing I was not#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age meta#solas#varric tethras#anyway. at the end of the day and despite everything varric won the 'I told you so chuckles' rights over solas in this philosophical debate#and isn't that enough in a way. I think so. the world and the story of the world is his legacy. people get to keep telling it#I want to say so much about how each of the companions play into the different aspects of this theme but I should uh#probably finish the game properly first haha#guys I literally opened my eyes this morning and wrote out most of this before even getting up. the pressure cooker brain is back#the lone brain cell in here boileth over with dragon age feels & thoughts#very little sends me deranged quite like this series I'm afraid. I'm just still so relieved that even if this story isn't for everyone.#it is for me. thank god. I needed it

*sigh* thoughts on Nintendo's botw/totk timeline shenanigans and tomfoolery?
tbh. my maybe-unpopular opinion is that the timeline is only important when a game's place on the timeline seriously informs the way their narrative progresses. the problem is that before botw we almost NEVER got games where it didn't matter. it matters for skyward sword because it's the beginning, and it matters for tp/ww/alttp (and their respective sequels) because the choices the hero of time makes explicitly inform the narrative of those games in one way or another. it matters which timeline we're in for those games because these cycles we're seeing are close enough to oot's cycle that they're still feeling the effects of his choices. botw, however, takes place at minimum 10 thousand years after oot, so its place on the timeline actually functionally means nothing. botw is completely divorced from the hero of time & his story, so what he does is a nonissue in the context of botw link and zelda's story. thus, which timeline botw happens in is a nonissue. honestly I kind of liked the idea that it happened in all of them. i think there's a cool idea of inevitability that can be played with there. but the point is that the timeline exists to enhance and fill in the lore of games that need it, and botw/totk don't really need it because the devs finally realized they could make a game without the hero of time in it.
#i really do have a love-hate relationship with this timeline#because it's FASCINATING lore. genuinely. and i think it carries over the themes of certain games REALLY well#but i also think it's indicative of a trend in loz's writing that has REALLY annoyed me for a long time#which is this intense need to cling to oot#and on a certain level i get it. that was your most successful game probably ever. and it was an AMAZING game.#and i think there's definitely some corporate profit maximization tied up in this too--oot was an insane commercial success therefore you'r#not allowed to make new games we need you to just remake oot forever and ever#and that really annoys me because it makes certain games feel disjointed at best and barely-coherent at worst.#i think the best zelda games on the market are the ones where the devs were allowed to really push what they were working with#oot. majora. botw. hell i'd even put minish cap in there#these are games that don't quite follow what was the standard zelda gameplay at their time of release. they were experimental in some way#whether that be with graphics or puzzle mechanics or open-world or the gameplay premise in its entirety. there's something NEW there#and because the devs of those games were given that level of freedom the gameplay really enforces the narrative. everything feels complete#and designed to work together. as opposed to gameplay that feels disjointed or fights against story beats. you know??#so I think that the willingness to allow botw and totk to exist independently from the timeline is good at the very least from a developmen#standpoint because it implies a willingness to. stop making shitty oot remakes and let developers do something interesting.#and yes i do very much fear that the next 20 years of zelda will be shitty BOTW remakes now#in which botw link appears and undergoes the most insane character assassination youve ever seen in your life#but im trying to be optimistic here. if botw/totk can exist outside the timeline then we may no longer be stuck in the remake death loop#and i'm taking eow as a good sign (so far) that we're out of the death loop!! because that game looks NOTHING like botw or oot.#fingers crossed!!#anyway sorry for the game dev rant but tldr timeline good except when it's bad#asks#zelda analysis

There's this scene in Act 2 where Waterbottle is listing shark facts, basically describing them as creatures who are unfairly demonized and sensationalized in media but are not actually nearly as dangerous as they are made out to be, they are just animals (adorable ones). Which, coming to that on a second playthrough, it seems like it closely mirrors the way lovelessness is seen in media. I think to some extent, all of Waterbottle's reading has made them uniquely open-minded and equipped to understand FriendProgram where others can't. Like at the ending of Act 1, when they say they are sure that being corrupted is more complicated than just "being evil." They'd possibly never even heard of data corruption outside of that concept of evilness and brokenness, but they decided not to judge just based on hearsay, and get to know FP for who they really are.
#friendship test#this game is very very open and clear with the aspec themes but its also filled with these metaphors which i really like

some asks are worded like the person expects me to finish their sentence or write an entire thing about it and it's like ok. what am I supposed to do with that ?
#why are we sending half baked ideas#just write it as a fic yourself đ#I don't have time for all that rn#and i actually think thats become a theme increasingly in the IF community#authors get sent open ended ideas without a please or thank u and people expect an entire story based on it like we aren't writing a 300k+#game rn#let's go back to creating things on your own

listening to the new vegas soundtrack a lot lately ive become curious. fnv fans:
#juno.txt#fnv#fallout#fallout new vegas#i ask partially bc i cant decide myself lol#blue moon is the opening cutscene song so that feels like the objective 'right' answer#but at the same time i think the others are all super emblematic for the game. possibly more so than blue moon#esp jingle jangle jingle and big iron#i was also very tempted to put johnny guitar as an option on here lol#but despite it being one of The Songs for this game for me i think it just barely misses being iconic#but its ok i still love you johnny guitar#oh also i know this game does have like. an actual main theme lmao im just goofing off here

#fuecoco#i gotta say i didn't really care for this thing at first. it was one of my least favorite starters right next to grookey when it was first#revealed. and normally i'm a big fan of fire starters. but this guy didn't do it for me#and this design still doesn'tâ but i do appreciate skeledirge. it's very coolâ i love the fire hat and the dĂa de los muertos design#it really feels like tpc have been going all out on making pokĂ©mon that Fit The Region since gen 8#which is pretty cool. i like it. and i definitely think paldea has some very fun vibes. but i dunno if i'd say it's one of my favorite#regions pokĂ©mon-wise or layout-wise. it was their first shot at open worldâ and i think it shows#the older regions with more limitations definitely shone more because they worked better in those limitations#paldea just feels like a big open empty sandbox at times. which is fun to exploreâ but doesn't feel too civilized compared to something#like⊠unova. where there's a city on every fuckin route corner and they're all so full of life and personality#like i could not remember any of the paldea town themes for the life of me. i can remember their names for the most part#but that's basically just because the facilities that get used a lot are spread out between them. for example: i remember medali#specifically because it's where i go to change a pokĂ©mon's tera type. i remember mesagoza because it's the main hub city#i remember levincia because of the posters. i remember montenevera because i think the hyper training guy is there#but not because like. i remember driftveil because YAAAAAAAAAAAAA#y'know. even galar had a better region design than paldea#that's not to say i think paldea is BAD. like i'm not a scarlet/violet hater like every other pokĂ©mon âfanâ on the internet#i've put like 200+ hours into that fuckin game. i still LIKE it. but my heart still holds a soft spot for kalos and the like

âthe children yearn for the minesâ is a little too real to me bc when i was a kid and my older siblings were trying to get me into pokĂ©mon i really never cared to try playing. BUT. i was obsessed with the underground mining minigame in dppt. i used to beg my sister to let me take a turn playing and set it up for me bc i didnât know how to so i could go mine for gems nonstop until i cleared that entire cave section of glittering wall spots which always made me so sad bc i was having such a great time. i didnât even understand the significance of what i was doing but 7 year old me was high off of it
#years and years later when i actually played platinum myself and it hit me like OH this is the game with the mining thing!!!#you have no idea how happy i was#âŠand also sad. it made me kinda heartsick bc in my childhood nostalgia dreams#my brother and sister used to play online together and do capture the flag#and their little minigame battles in the underground with their cool secret bases were so fun to watch#like that was back when the wifi connection was working and the games were alive and relevant#but i came back to it far far too late. when it was a mere relic and i was alone with no other players#still. hearing the music again brought a smile to my face#pokĂ©mon#dppt#i am once again rambling about my very special relationship to sinnoh#i didnât play pokĂ©mon as a kid but also yes i did it was part of my childhood. like without really knowing much about it#the lil character sprites. hearthome city theme#the contests#the crunchy sound of the map opening#and the incomprehensible map itself#the bike and surf music#empoleon and staraviaâs cries as they went to use surf and fly#truly. being a younger sibling watching your older sibling play has such an impact on you#itâs all nostalgic to me too i just didnât know the full context of it myself back then#couple all this with the weird feeling of having played pokĂ©mon legends arceus as my first own game#and THEN going and finally checking out dppt#it was like double nostalgia. two different half-nostakgia experiences#just. agh i make fun of gen 4 for a lot of things but it is fundamentally my heart isnât it#i also literally am incapable of talking about it for more than 5 minutes without bringing pla into it lol#pokeposting

hey guys lets talk about how lonely and melancholy Leander's CG theme is. i dont know music very well but lets Talk about it. this one:
-the minor key
-the only slightly distorted electric guitar
-how often the melody repeats (so much repetition)
-there's pretty minimal percussion & otherwise the guitar is Alone. grabbing you all by the shoulders and shaking lets discuss this hlello hi hehy hi hi hey hello
#shitboxposting#touchstarved game#leander#ONLY leander solo post you will ever get out of me. i really like his theme#everybodu open up your books (the game) to page 30 (leander cg) and read the passage (listen to the music)
