Pistachio Wave
I recently decided to make another Vaporwave video, which I made by editing clips from Dinosaurs only Two Parter 'Nuts to War' and I simpled and remixed from The Muppet Show's rendition the song 'Why Can't Be Friends' by the band WAR; All and All I Think I did a good job capturing the mood well with Vaporwave style.

I'm convinced Mythbusters needs a reboot. Misinformation or mythinformation if you will, is at an all time high. We NEED the show that promotes critical thinking to come back. It doesn't need the same cast, in fact I think it would be better with some fresh faces. Imagine all the good it would do if you could just show your crazy uncle the Mythbusters reboot episode that debunks his anti-vaxx conspiracy in an easily digestible and entertaining format.

That is certainly - a statement.
What about Jim, who both metaphorically and literally discovers a path for themself beyond what they were raised to be? What about Pete, who learns to overcome his toxic masculinity, his posturing and self-importance? What about Ed, whose entire story is about deconstructing the performance that is expected of him?
What about, oh, idk, our main fucking character Stede Bonnet, whose arc starts with him literally breaking out from the hetero marriage he was forced into despite never fitting in? Who tries (and initially fails) to build a community where he can be himself? Whose entire story is about discovering his own queerness! He starts out not even able to put a finger on WHY his marriage made him feel so suffocated, and then journeys through s1 until he reaches the emotional climax - "His name is Ed"!
Contrast that with Izzy, who has to be dragged into a supportive community kicking and screaming. Who rejects care and compassion, even at his worst, who has to be forced to accept help. He receives the leg and calls the crew a homophobic slur for it, ffs. Only after that, only when people refuse to let him push them away, is he able to poke his nose into something approaching positive human connections. And that's a powerful narrative, sure, in it's own way; but it's hardly the Ultimate Queer Experience, and it's definitely not the "only queer arc".
And Izzy never lets go of the old ways. He never abandons the Blackbeard-era pirate lifestyle for something more positive, not fully. And that's okay, because ultimately, his arc isn't even about himself.
It's about Ed.
Ed keeps repeating toxic relationship patterns, and Izzy is a part of that. He's linked (on purpose, and I wish it had been done more explicitly) to Ed's father; because Izzy represents the poison that was instilled in Ed from a young age, and that has become so entrenched in his system that he can't imagine a life without it. He keeps Izzy around despite being hurt by him because Izzy is predictable, and in that, is safe, even though he hurts Ed; at least it's a hurt Ed is familiar with and can rely on.
When Izzy slowly changes it's to show that Ed is growing beyond the little voice in his head telling him to reject softness, that he can never be loved, that We're just not these kinds of people. If Izzy can evolve from someone spitting boyfriend at Ed like it's a slur to someone congratulating him on getting laid by that same person, Ed can overcome his inner demons telling him the same thing.
That's the point of Izzy's arc. And this is why he has to die, because Ed can never be truly free as long as Izzy is around. So Izzy goes, quietly, peacefully, and releases Ed of the poison; apologizes to him, tells him I was so wrong, and I am so sorry, because that's what Ed needs to hear to move forward.
And that's such a kind, positive way to end the story of Izzy Hands.

One Dress a Day Challenge
August: Fantasy & Sci-Fi
Star Trek (s3e5, "Is There in Truth No Beauty?") / Diana Muldaur as Miranda Jones
In this episode, it appears the costumer has cleverly saved money and given the character's costumes a unifying look by using the same beaded net overdress with three different underlayers. In her first and final appearances, the underdress is made of green and blue printed fabric with cap sleeves coming to little points over the shoulder. Next is a sleeveless blue dress with a gathered neck; it is similar to the green dress from Mission Impossible that I featured recently, and this may not be a coincidence, as the relevant episodes of both shows aired in 1968. The final underdress is black with long sleeves.
Since each of the underdresses complements different colors in the beaded net layer, it really looks different every time!
ETA: I've been reminded that the overdress is actually a sensory net, as the character is blind. I admit I had forgotten that detail about its functionality. That's what I get for not taking the time to do a full rewatch when taking screencaps!

My fav thing about TAZ is that any aspect out of context sounds fucking bonkers.
Like, in the balance finale there's a scene in which Garfield (who is very specifically never described visually bc most people imagine him as like. The Lasagna Cat. Who in this universe is the most powerful warlock in the realm and also has a hobby of cloning people, which is great for the one character that got forced into haunting a mannequin) is summoned by an alien spaceship that runs on the power of friendship so he could beat up some flashing balls. In D&D.
And that was just. Such a normal scene in the narrative. No one blinked an eye. I would like to bow down to Griffins clear unmatched talent for making me feel such big emotions over ridiculous shit like a goddamned umbrella or a regular ass pair of jeans or the idea of a taco recipe.
#taz balance#the adventure zone#taz#i have. so many drafts of this post decontexualizing so many different scenes.#merle killing a room of autism creature looking things by asking them to tell the truth which then summons god#also merle retiring from his retirement to run fantasy margaritaville under the title Earl Merle#magnus the mannequin telling taako and merle to find the baby voidfish bc the big voidfish sung at him real hard bc in the century he#just now remembered (bc hes a mannequin not a human boy)#he gifted an alien jellyfish with dozens of shitty wooden ducks. he forgot that century bc his friend fed the jellyfishs baby a book#the gnome version of Teddy Rucksbin turns out to be the universes most competent spaceship pilot. hes also a talented opera singer#a man named Barry Bluejeans is dead and uses his ghost haunting powers to gift the three heroes badges that they cant see#right before theyre shuttled off in a cannonball to save a space lab full of kitschy elevators thats snowing pink tourmaline#barry also uses his ghost powers to hold hands with magnus and make random shapes in midair like a dresser when theyre trapped in a#fantasy version of The Dating Game hosted by ghost Jesse and James Rocket who steal bodyparts if you lose their game.#or like in campaign how a dude who wiped out in the first three seconds of ninja warrior convinces a human wifi router#who owns a bible theme park to take the apparent King of America to the white house on their hovercraft to be trued for treason#after he announced his intent to take over the country in a televised debate with an inuit goddess who is sometimes trapped in the body#of an HR worker all Donald Blake/Thor style#anyways. this show is ridiculous and i love it So Much

A new and probably controversial opinion on television, as delivered by me: I hate when hour length tv dramas run for 20 episodes and run from September all the way to fucking May. Nearly 9 months! 9 months of formulaic episode of the week style crap! That's too much! This isn't a half hour show (for which I could forgive really long seasons). No, this is an hour length detective show. And I'm sick of it. We're only on episode 16 or 17 or something, and I just... I barely care anymore. Why should I? There's been too many episodes, and they all blur together.
So my opinion is thus: If a show is an hour long (I don't care if it's animated or live action) it should get shorter seasons. If a show is only 30 minutes long, it deserves longer seasons. That sounds reasonable to me. Because some cartoons or old 50s sitcoms got 30-40 episode seasons. I don't mind that, because they're half hours. They're manageable. But hour length shows (especially the dramatic ones)? No. No, no, no! You think my attention span is good enough to watch something that long when it's a drama? It barely is. And I slowly grow to resent the show the longer it runs. So no more 20 episode dramas, please.
PS: I know that shows in the UK and here in Canada tend to get less episodes than shows in the United States. Is that true for Australia and the other commonwealth countries too? I've only seen a handful of shows from Australia (basically, i've seen probably one or two comedies that canadian netflix picked up), and they seem to follow the shorter seasons rule.
But if all the commonwealth countries are getting shorter seasons for shows, why does american tv have 20 episode seasons still!? This is most egregious for the hour length shows. Half hour shows should run longer. That applies to all the UK, Canadian, American and Australian shows i've liked. Longer seasons for half hour shows, shorter seasons for hour length shows.

Michelle Trachtenberg, Jewish ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘Buffy’ star, dies at 39.
Tumblr media
Jewish actress Michelle Trachtenberg has been found dead in her New York City apartment.
She was one of a trio of Jewish actresses to star in the supernatural series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” along with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan, and later appeared in a recurring role on the prep school drama “Gossip Girl.” In between, she starred in the raunchy 2004 teen comedy “EuroTrip.”
On Instagram, Trachtenberg made occasional references to her Jewish identity, posting about a Hanukkah celebration a decade ago and again about the holiday in 2022. Since the October 7, 2023, Hamas onslaught that launched the war in Gaza and touched off a wave of global antisemitism, Trachtenberg has posted photos of herself wearing a Star of David necklace and another, last year, of a Mickey Mouse Hanukkah backpack along with the caption “Please stop hatred towards the innocent.”
