Methods: We performed a single-blind, randomized human experiment evaluating the effectiveness of five different regimens for the treatment of topical facial OC exposure. Forty-nine volunteer, adult law enforcement trainees were exposed to OC during a routine training exercise and were randomized to one of five treatment groups (aluminum hydroxide-magnesium hydroxide [Maalox], 2% lidocaine gel, baby shampoo, milk, or water). After initial self-decontamination with water, subjects rated their pain using a 10-cm visual analog scale (VAS) and then every 10 minutes, for a total of 60 minutes. Subjects were blinded to previous VAS recordings. A two-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) (treatment, time) with repeated measures on one factor (time) was performed using a 1.3-cm difference as clinically significant. Results: Forty-four men and five women, with an average age of 24 years, participated in the study. There was a significant difference in pain with respect to time (p < 0.001), but no significant interaction between time and treatment (p > 0.05). There was no significant difference in pain between treatment groups (p > 0.05).
eliza comments: this supports the observation that pain-inducing chemical weapon response is primarily time- and somatically-mediated. eg, none of this stuff actually "works" and any effects are related to time making the chemicals degrade. observations that "i used milk and it helped" are a false observation based on the fact that sitting there and waiting for the chemicals to wear off was working anyway, so putting milk on your skin/eyes in the meantime was assumed to have "worked" when it wasn't actually doing anything (other than the skin reaction to cool liquid being felt as "soothing" superficially).
the action of being treated by friendly medics will always help with injury regardless of the injury, its one of the cornerstones of medicine. it's very important for street medics to present a caring, confident, and gentle attitude towards injured people. street medics aren't medical doctors (except when they are, i know dozens of actual EMTs and MDs and RNs who go to protests specifically to provide medical care) but the principles are the same

KINDA... this may be a mega hot take but literally nothing matters besides sunscreen, some kind of retinoid cream, and a decent moisturizer. nothing else has evidence-based clinical data supporting it. I tried a bunch of different overpriced eye creams, exfoliants, 10-step skincare routines etc throughout my 20s, but nothing was effective as the retinol I started last year lol
also if you have eczema and moderate to severe acne (like me, or rather I used to have these) you should really be seeking professional medical advice... no tiktok/IG trend has helped me as much as prescription medicine 💀
here's what I used for PCOS-related and infection-caused acne:
birth control
adapalene + benzoyl peroxide cream (this also supposedly prevents wrinkles and, for lack of better word, makes my skin glow)
hydrocolloid acne patches were a lifesaver before I started adapalene
this is what I use for regular skincare:
CeraVe hydrating facial cleanser (good for sensitive skin)
CeraVe PM moisturiser (good for sensitive skin)
Biore SPF 50 sunscreen (no white cast + oily feeling, dries matte)
this is what I use for makeup:
Burt's bees lip balm with SPF (I have a tinted one)
IT cosmetics CC cream SPF 50
I recommend avoiding tanning salons for reduced cancer risk and to slow down signs of ageing! BUT while skin cancer is incredibly preventable, ageing is obviously inevitable. it's best to make your peace with it now, or else be prepared to invest in botox if you want to delay that emotional conversation with yourself a little longer lol

(Always consult a dermatologist for your skincare don't go around seeing videos on insta and YouTube believing them). I recommend Minimalist if you want chemical bases serums.
If you are above 23 or 25 Incorporate a retinol-based cream like RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream for anti-aging benefits. (Got this tip from mumma for y'all 😭✨️)
Sun Protection Essentials : Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, such as La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid, to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. More affordable and effective sunscreens from brands — dot and key, aqualogica, Dr. Seth and wish care.
Overnight Nourishment: Use a hydrating overnight mask like Laneige Water Sleeping Mask to replenish moisture while you sleep. Incorporate a facial oil like The Ordinary's Rose Hip Seed Oil for added nourishment and radiance.

So I’mma do a quick rant on Tim and the whole “forever 17” thing people are always going on about.
Disclaimer: some of this is based on my own experience with how I changed as I got older and comments from people that I went months and years without seeing.
I’m AFAB so it’s not quite the same. But I’ve never been one to remember a skin care routine and have relied on good genetics and good hygiene to make this point.
When doing some calculations for another post (you’ve probably seen that post I reblogged about the batkids ages) it hit me WHY it doesn’t look like Tim has aged.
Sure it might just be a style choice because DC wants to keep a chokehold on their Teen audience with Tim. (Even though Damian is RIGHT THERE!!! DC stop making Damian look like Tim for the love of GOD!)
A lot of people don’t actually CHANGE that much from ages 16-24 as long as they are keeping to the same exercise routines and diets. With the exception of Tim’s Brucequest, he kept to a fairly stable routine for Years!
The reason most people change so much early on is because they drop off their usual exercise (gym class) and repetitive diet (school or packed lunch). So you see people’s weight fluctuating (this can have an effect of visible face shape) hair either thinning or thickening and skin either clearing or getting more acne.
Add this to Tim probably having pretty good genetics (his mom looked like she was maybe pushing 30 when she died but was probably closer to mid 40s. Both Janet and Jack were around 10 years older than Bruce, who would have been mid 30s at the time.)
Tim not showing any signs of facial hair can also be down to genetics. Some cis men just NEVER get more than a single chin hair, maybe a max of 5 sparsely scattered along their chin. Those guys usually just pluck them out. They never actually have to shave. Though I think we Have seen Tim shaving again one point. Can’t remember when.
Either way, it makes sense for Tim not to actually look his age in any more than muscle mass. He’s noticeably built compared to how he was when Damian was introduced. (When the artists are going for a more realistic art style.)
Then considering his most recent dimensional adventure to save Bruce after the shit with Failsafe, you see just how much older he looks next to his mother (from that universe) and she didn’t seem that surprised with how he looked. Meaning her version of him is probably around the same age, and anyone who read that issue can see she looked pretty young.
Add all this to the fact it’s Canon that Jason is 23! He’s only at most 3 years older than Tim but is probably closer to 2 years older. (With Jason being 15 going on 16 when he died. And Tim was 12-13 by the 6 month mark after Jason died and Tim became Robin.)
So in conclusion, DC needs to stop acting like Tim’s still a Teenager and acknowledge that he’s a lot closer to 21 (hell, if we go by proper calculations he SHOULD BE 21).
What I’m saying is give us Tim going out for drinks with his older brothers. Have him show up at Jason’s after something bad happens and ask if he’s still up for that drink (in reference to that one time Jason offered to get a 16 year old Tim into a bar.)
Give us Funny Drunk Tim shenanigans to balance out that Dick is a miserable drunk! Have Jason get stuck babysitting both of them because he’s the only one that can actually hold his alcohol. Have the Girls be watching and laughing from across the bar because they unintentionally had their Girls Night and the same place the guys had their Boys Night.

now i will warn u i am NOT a clean girl makeup girly or very natural beat at all so just letting u know i use A LOT more than most ppl i would assume use
ok lets gooo:
skincare prep: use facial cleanser (cerave hydrating or the ordinary hydrating cleanser) to wash face w either lukewarm or cold tapwater. let face air dry or use clean facial towel (i just use a mini towel) to dry face by patting the skin gently a few times max. use toner (some by mi aha bha pha toner) by patting it on face. give 30 secsish to dry. now put on moisturizer (laniege water face mask or cerave hydrating moisturizer or the face shop rice ceramide moisturizer). put on sunscreen (olay 30spf moisturizer sunscreen).
then use primer (elf hydro grip pink or blue works)
onto base: use foundation/cc cream/tinted serum depending on ur preference (f: clio kill cover mesh. cc cream: elf camo. tinted serum: loreal true match). i blend using a damp beauty blender. then i (excessively) use atleast 2-3 concealers of different shades. starting w the darkest to even out my skin tone (the body shop), medium to give more coverage (loreal instant age rewind eraser), and lightest to lighten my undereyes and other areas i like to be highlighted (peripera double longwear cover or focallure liquid concealer both from YesStyle). blend all three after each one w a beauty blender. i then use a setting spray to keep my base in place (i use the milani make it last but i do NOT recc it 🙁).
blush: yet again i am excessive w this 😜 i like looking like my crush just winked at me and i cannot handle the attention 24/7. i start w a matte blush/tint (nyx powder puff lippie or peripera ink airy velvet) then blend w my fingers. after i use a glowy blush (elf halo glow) and blend w my fingers again. lastly i "set" w a powder blush (etude cookie blush).
eyes: during my base routine i add all components from foundation to concealer on my eyes, so i blend out any excess using my fingers and even it out. i then use a white or nude eyeshadow to lighten my entire eye from the undereye to below my eyebrow bone (mac discontinued hello kitty palette or colorpop baby got peach palette...slightly pinky nude or full on white is my vibe). i go in p hard in the underye bc i like my undereye looking like ive slept 99 hours in the past wk alone. then i use any eyeshadow i want to create any kind of look, usually to match my outfit or the days vibe. i like colorpop, too faced, mac, jaclyn hill, and juvias place palettes the most. after the eyeshadow is complete i go in w a setting powder (juvias place) w a heavy hand. i also go in w powder under blush area (below cheekbone), upper lip, chin, and forhead. i let that sit all the way until im done w my lips. after placing powder w powder puff, i do eyeliner w eyeshadow of any previously mentioned palettes. i then curl my lashes, put on mascara (hourglass caution extreme lash or telescopic blue tube), and curl again. i then clean up any mascara w more eyeshadow or concealer then eyeshadow if its p bad. i then place highlighter (colorpop shock) under my brow bone.
highlighter: i use the colorpop highlighter on my nose and cupids bow. then i use a bright pink highlighter (stick w me lol ik it sounds weird) (zeesea purple 9 color eyeshadow palette) on my cheekbone and nose.
lips: three steps: liner, tint, gloss. lip liner from elf to line my exact lip shape (sometimes i round out my cupids bow if its a cutesy look). lip tint from peripera to color my lips and keep the color on for a long time or elf o satin face lip stick to do the same thing. blend out w fingers after smacking lips together. then top w gloss/lip oil (nyx butter gloss, nyx fat lip oil, ecosoul lip oil, kopari gloss, maybelline lifter gloss, hello kitty lip smacker gloss).
blend out all powder on face and set w shitty milani setting spray
WHEW MY HANDS HURTTTT
but tbh i do sm bc i love makeup and have sm fun w it. tho w using this much ik im lucky to not have acne prone skin or skin that treats makeup like a parasite. i often take 2-4 day breaks when i have days off school and or weekends which helps. not to mention i use toner pads (numbuzin no.5) once to twice a wk and use a face mask (from any brand that use food ingredients as a main ingredient) weekly.

after a few months, i finally renewed my adderall prescription and thus am having a bunch of feelings. this is just venting; feel free to ignore this. (cw: csa?, puberty, intersexism???, questioning and rambling about identity)
i should be working through different feelings than these right now. but… some combination of the book i was just reading and the discourse that's been floating around tumblr for the past week-ish has just…
i don't know where to start.
it was really obvious when we started growing breasts during puberty. it was… about the start of middle school, i think? those first few years, it was dysphoria hell. i didn't know what was going on, and – i think a lot of people looked at us and just assumed we were fat, but… something felt deeply wrong and terrifying. just as much, if not sometimes more, disconcerting than every other change going on. at least we had been (uncomfortably, coarsely) warned those were coming by our school's health classes. there was nothing about a '''boy''' growing breasts in those cringe-ass 80s style informational videos.
i can still remember the kinda bored tone with which the doctors who first prescribed us hormones remarked on our slightly higher than normal base estrogen levels and how we already had a head start on breast development. it was comforting (we were so dysphoric and chomping at the bit to start) and slightly unnerving at the same time?

our mother and grandmother were both kind of obsessed with the state of our genitals growing up? every few months, they'd just. have us strip and they inspected our junk. they said smth like "i can't trust you to take care of it yourself, so i need to check you're doing it right" and then poke and prod while we tried to dissociate through how rough and painful it was. gods, why am i shaking as i type this up. they did this for years. from like, kindergarten age to well past puberty starting. it only stopped when we refused to comply and they thankfully just… didn't push?
i… i can't actually say that i grew up thinking this was normal. i tried not to think about it ever. i thought that i was jaded and numb to it. but that still didn't prepare us from the… vehement reaction one of our partners had when we first told them about the routine genital inspections? they were aghast. and… they were the first to say, "that excuse sounds like bullshit. why were they actually doing that?"
that was a mindfuck.
it's still hard to wrap our head around the idea that they had an ulterior motive or some hidden instructions they were working under. and the plurality, the dissociation, they've made all our really early memories into slurry. i remember a few doctor's appointments wherein we stripped and had our junk looked at, but… for all i know that's normal? i know we spent a lot of time in hospitals while really small, but… in one of those, they took out our tonsils (i think?????) and at least one of those has to be related to the fact that we're missing a bone in one of our ears.
all our really early childhood medical records are inaccessible, in another country. we can't ask for those, if they even still exist? and our family was too poor to afford regular doctor's appointments after a while unless we were turbo sick. and this is all just… it's circumstantial. it's all circumstantial, built on top a shifting, useless foundation.
there's nothing there.

in the aftermath of that conversation, aforementioned partner (perisex) and a now-ex (intersex) said that they'd honestly just assumed that we already knew whether or not we're intersex and had just never wanted to pry. and we just… fucking segfaulted?
they pointed out… our relative lack of body or facial hair despite never having had laser/electrolysis, our high-ish voice despite never doing voice training, growing breasts during puberty, the shape and size our junk… they pointed out that it would be a coherent explanation for why our grand/mother acted that way… and. probably a bunch of other things? (this was six or seven years ago, iirc)
i'm kind of anxious that i'm not conveying how reasonable and compelling they sounded. because it was convincing, it was compelling. here was an idea being put forward by two people i trust super highly, that brought together a whole bunch of disparate, really upsetting things about our life under one coherent explanation.
we were convinced enough to bring it up to our pcp and ask for a karyotyping. she said no at first, which… hurt in the moment, but honestly was super fair! i've been in trans communities, i've been online. i know there's a non-trivial amount of trans girls who latch on to the idea of being secretly intersex in a fetishistic and/or insecure way to make their gender feel more '''''authentic.'''''
so we told her everything we've written here. it was the most open and honest we'd been with her — or possibly any nurse or doctor ever. it felt gross and invasive at the time. (but there's no situation in which suddenly disclosing all this trauma history wouldn't feel Weird And Bad) and she was probably overwhelmed by all this new information. she agreed at the end, given that i consented to her examining our genitals. (apologetically, she said that it was mandated by the health center's policy. it was intensely triggering, but we managed not to break out sobbing until after the appointment was over.)
it took two agonizing months for the karyotype to come back 46XY, no chimerism or mosaicism. when our partners suggested that we should look into whether or not we're intersex, they mostly suggested klinefelter as a possibility. and so this felt… devastating? the most credible lead went up in flames. our pcp was very sympathetic and supportive; she offered us a referral to a specialist in a larger hospital to keep following this thread if we wanted. but she mentioned we might have to go off hormones for an unknown amount of time while undergoing tests and we politely declined, just overflowing with fear and regret and so much shame.

i've been writing for three or four hours at this point. i don't know why these feelings are dredging themselves back up now of all times.
it's been years. we haven't seriously pursued anything related to this since. there's still this… cloud of fear and dysphoria and violation swirling over all these moments of our childhood. the alienation and frustration with our body — how it never seems to fucking work like anyone else's, it's just wrong or non-functional or […] no matter what — still lurk under the surface. i don't know how to make sense of any of it.

iunno. we just have this feeling that… without anything official and credible from a doctor, we both can't and shouldn't explore whether… whether trying to find community on this would be helpful, whether it makes sense to look at our life through the lens of intersex analysis, whether we should do… anything. and it's not like we're a fucking transmedicalist otherwise or whatever the fuck. we're just scared of hurting anyone. the responsible thing to do is to just live with the discomfort rather than run the risk of being appropriative and shitty and bigoted.
