everyone you admire, idolize, put on a pedestal is just a person. everyone you hate, demonize, find irritating / annoying, is also just a person.
#oh another one from deep in the drafts. that's mmm perhaps relevant#idk!#i just think. maybe. sometimes people should be normal abt actors. that goes for both ends of the spectrum#like sometimes (most times) things are not that deep#and people get all up in arms abt stuff and it's like. whatever. that's literally just some guy#who's not as evil malicious OR perfect and wooby as either side thinks them to be#vic.txt#keep

I think it's interesting that since early AGOT, we've been seeing how quickly Sansa actually clocks people for what they are and how she ignores that in favour of her future. When Sansa meets Barristan Selmy and Renly Baratheon in Sansa I, it's not them she fixated on; it's Ilyn Payne.
At first Sansa did not notice the third stranger. He did not kneel with the others. He stood to one side, beside their horses, a gaunt grim man who watched the proceedings in silence. His face was pockmarked and beardless, with deepset eyes and hollow cheeks. Though he was not an old man, only a few wisps of hair remained to him, sprouting above his ears, but those he had grown long as a woman's. His armor was iron-grey chainmail over layers of boiled leather, plain and unadorned, and it spoke of age and hard use. Above his right shoulder the stained leather hilt of the blade strapped to his back was visible; a two-handed greatsword, too long to be worn at his side.
[...] but Sansa could not take her eyes off the third man. He seemed to feel the weight of her gaze. Slowly he turned his head. Lady growled. A terror as overwhelming as anything Sansa Stark had ever felt filled her suddenly. She stepped backward and bumped into someone.
Throughout the entire chapter, Sansa is fawning over Joffrey, trying to please her betrothed and keep the fairytale like veneer over her story, and when Joffrey and Arya get into a fight, it all breaks apart. Joffrey snaps at Sansa, and for a brief moment, the illusion disappeared.
His eyes snapped open and looked at her, and there was nothing but loathing there, nothing but the vilest contempt. "Then go," he spit at her. "And don't touch me."
It's only when she wills herself to ignore that slight does her illusion of a gallant Joffrey come back into play. Even so, when we see Joffrey again in Sansa II, she's uncomfortable because she still remembers the incident at the Trident and Lady's following death. At first, she had, rightly, blamed Joffrey for it because she finally saw that romance tinted lens crack, but had to make a conscious decision to absolve him of the guilt from her mind because he was the crown prince, because he was the future king, because he was her future husband and to hate the man she, at that point, believed she'd have to spend the rest of her life with would be folly. And still, she's nervous around him.
When Prince Joffrey seated himself to her right, she felt her throat tighten. He had not spoken a word to her since the awful thing had happened, and she had not dared to speak to him. At first she thought she hated him for what they'd done to Lady, but after Sansa had wept her eyes dry, she told herself that it had not been Joffrey's doing, not truly. The queen had done it; she was the one to hate, her and Arya. Nothing bad would have happened except for Arya.
In Sansa II, she meets Petyr Baelish for the first time and immediately is uncomfortable, the unease cutting into the otherwise dreamy atmosphere of the Tourney, much like the murder of Jon Arryn's squire, from which she can't look away from.
When Sansa finally looked up, a man was standing over her, staring. He was short, with a pointed beard and a silver streak in his hair, almost as old as her father. "You must be one of her daughters," he said to her. He had grey-green eyes that did not smile when his mouth did. "You have the Tully look." "I'm Sansa Stark," she said, ill at ease.
Consistently, Sansa is a keen observer who does notice things and people others would overlook, but its her youth and desire to be good (a good girl, a good lady, a good hostage) that trips her judgement. Sansa longs for a fairytale like life, she wants a marriage like Ned's and Cat's, she wants to be a queen and a lady and wants perfection and stillness so bad that it makes her down right neurotic, and when she does notice things that don't fit the mold of her ideals (Ilyn Payne scaring her from the get go, Sansa first seeing Joffrey act cruel and reject her, Petyr Baelish making her uncomfortable) she rationalizes it by giving them roles in her mind (Ilyn Payne scares her therefor he must be a monster, Joffrey is her husband to be, but was cruel to her, her sister and a boy, so therefor this must not be his fault, he's just a misunderstood and troubled hero, Petyr Baelish is a lord and part of the small council therefor he Doesn't unnerve her, he's just being kind and friendly and she's being silly.) Sansa Stark is, at the end of the day, still a little girl being held hostage, but it is her keen eye and understandment of people that ultimately saves her and lets her live for as long as she has, even if at first it was hindered by her romanticized view of life.
#chaos reads#asoiaf#sansa stark#a song of ice and fire#house stark#valyrianscrolls#another oldie from the drafts#what makes sansa so much fun. for me. is that she IS very perceptive she does see things and hear things and understand them#but because she grew up so sheltered she deliberately chooses to ignore them. even ilyn payne who she Cant rationalize#or explain away so she chooses to ignore him. to look away and think of him as little as she can even as he haunts her chapters#with proper education and parents who Had prepared her for the south and harshness of life sansa Could've swept the court away#but they didnt (and couldnt) so she was left in her idealisms and forced to learn it by herself

obviously temple of doom is deeply problematic as a film but at least short round is there. iconic character if I’m being honest. every scene with him and indy is just like indy going “I think we’re going have to kill this guy, short round” and short round is just like “blast his nuts off dr. jones!!!!”
#another relic from my drafts that I have decided to set free#but yeah short round is one of the few good things about that movie#indiana jones#temple of doom#short round#my post

maybe I'm overthinking things, but whenever I see people talking about significant/transformative moments in tianshan's relationship (barring their fight, the kiss, the ear piercing, etc.), I'm always a little disappointed no one points out the scene where the boys are going through the cardboard boxes of random things from he tian's childhood and he tian says something to the effect of, "the entire world is out there but everything I've ever owned only fits in these two boxes" and then he discreetly places his hand palm-up between him and guan shan. and guan shan pauses for a moment before placing his glass in his hand. and then the chapter ends.
this moment is one of the few panels I've saved over the years:

like... it's short but there's so much emotion behind this scene, it's hard for me to put it into words succinctly. and it stands out to me because it's not particularly intense or climatic like their other big moments. it happens soon after she li assaulted guan shan on the riverbank — which was heavy on the drama and ultimately the catalyst for tianshan's relationship. he tian had also just been financially cut off from his family and guan shan had been physically and emotionally vulnerable/exhausted for some time. basically, things were still raw and hectic for both of them in different ways
so this quiet, subdued, and wordless interaction between them on the balcony was very interesting. I honestly think it's one of the first instances in which tianshan have a personal/intimate mutual understanding of one another without an outside force influencing it or the moment being interrupted. and somehow, it's both abnormal and very fitting that he tian didn't make a grand gesture in this moment. like, if you think about it, he simply turned his hand on the cushion and looked at guan shan. it wasn't obvious; he wasn't making a scene. but of course guan shan, hyperaware of him, noticed
and the fact that the chapter ends after that also stands out to me. again, if he tian was being his normal self, he probably would've said/complained outright that he obviously wanted guan shan to give him his hand, not his glass, or he probably would've grabbed guan shan's hand as he was placing the glass down because he tian always just takes what he wants and tames guan shan's defiance or embarrassment after the fact
but instead, the chapter ends. and it doesn't even feel abrupt, really. it feels complete. and it makes me assume that he tian accepted the glass as guan shan's response and didn't press the issue. he might've just held onto the glass in his lap (or drank from it while maintaining eye contact) and then moved his attention back to the group at large. and, again, that's both abnormal and fitting for him in this scene
and I know I just said "guan shan's response" but what's frustrating — and fascinating! — is that I've yet to come to a definitive conclusion about what the (unspoken) question/response between them was to begin with. of course, he tian had just finished talking about the paradoxical state of his life — about how he could have everything and yet he has next to nothing — so maybe his "question" for guan shan was as simple as: "even if I don't have/want anything else, can I at least have you?"
but I also think it's interesting to consider that jian yi immediately laughed at he tian after he finished talking, accusing him of being dramatic (and in jian yi's defense, he'd never really seen an honest version of he tian like guan shan had at that point, so I don't blame him for thinking he tian was just being melodramatic for attention as per usual). anyway, jian yi and zheng xi got a good chuckle out of it, but guan shan didn't. iirc, he actually looked a bit lost in thought before he noticed he tian looking at him, and then his hand between them
with that small detail, it makes me think he tian's question leaned more toward: "do you believe me?" or maybe "do you understand me in the ways I want you to?"
I'd like to think he tian wouldn't have offered his hand if guan shan had also rolled his eyes with zhanyi — poor little rich boy — and dismissed what he'd said. but then again, with the state of their situation/relationship at that point, I don't think there was a chance in hell that guan shan would've dismissed him. I'm sure we can all agree that he tian's intense emotional response to finding guan shan injured and subsequently taking care of him without expecting anything in return drastically changed guan shan's perspective of him. guan shan had a lot to process at that point in the manhua, and a lot of hard truths to start acknowledging. it was clear that he tian had a lot on his mind during that time, too
so guan shan placing the glass in he tian's palm might've been him saying, "I'm still figuring this (us) out... but my answer isn't no" (hence the reason why he tian presumably didn't push the issue further bc he was more cognizant of guan shan's boundaries by this point) or it might've been him saying, "yeah, I'm starting to understand you, and you're not what I thought you were but that's not scaring me away" (therefore affirming he tian's question so he didn't feel the need to pursue the moment or make a bigger scene)
in any case, although there's no continuation after that scene, I think they were both satisfied by the end of the evening. I don't think he tian was disappointed by guan shan's response, and guan shan would've known that too. in fact, I'd argue that guan shan wanted to reaffirm he tian's emotions in that moment. the worst (yet easiest) thing guan shan could've done is look at him, look at his hand, and then look away and ignore him — literally leaving him empty-handed. that would've left he tian in a sour fucking mood... or at least a bit wounded
but instead, guan shan chose the more honest/reciprocal route even if he wasn't 100% sure yet. and... I don't know. it really stands out to me and I think a lot more was happening in that interaction than what could've been expressed in words. and yet I've literally never seen anyone talk about that scene since it was posted — which, fair enough. it's only a couple of panels. but I think about it constantly!
#19 days#tianshan#and don't get me started on the scene in the VERY early chapters when guan shan is running from she li in the subway and barely makes it ->#back to he tian in the train car before the doors close#THAT was a HUGE turning point in their relationship too imo (even if it was subconscious)#but that's an essay for another day lmao#speaking of essays... I just re-discovered the potentially controversial post I wrote up months ago in my drafts#some of you might remember me posting about things I wanted to address in the fandom but was too worried about backlash#and many of you were so supportive and sweet!#so maybe i'll consider posting it since it's practically complete... but i have some urgent school stuff to finish first!#fay talks

A few interesting parallels in the SoC duology that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about yet
(Analysis/discussion of these parallels/quotes may come later if anyone's interested)
“These creatures were made to be weapons” - Jarl Brum on Grisha, Six of Crows chapter 35
“He looked like what he truly was: a weapon” - Jesper Fahey on the Khergud, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“Welcome to the Hellshow” - Kaz to Nina, Six of Crows chapter 6
“Welcome to the Ice Court, Nina Zenik” - Matthias to Nina, Six of Crows chapter 34
“Is this a play?” - Alys Van Eck “Yes love, and you’re the star” - Jesper Fahey, Crooked Kingdom chapter 8 when Alys is taken captive
“What was this but a play Kaz had staged, with that poor sucker Kuwei as the star?” - Jesper Fahey on the auction plan, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“he looked like a priest come to preach to group of circus performers” - Inej on Kaz’s appearance in comparison to the rest of the Barrel, Six of Crows chapter 2
“started to preach” - Inej on Kaz leading a coup against Per Haskell, Crooked Kingdom chapter 27
“Whoever he had become, Matthias was not going to shoot someone unarmed. He'd not yet sunk so far” - Matthias Helvar, Six of Crows chapter 29
“I am unarmed” - Matthias Helvar, Crooked Kingdom chapter 38
"I didn't even know the rules of Makker's Wheel" - Jesper Fahey on his first night gambling in the Barrel, Six of Crows chapter ()
"He knew his guns better than he knew the rules of Makker's Wheel" - Jesper Fahey on the concept of aim and its relationship to his life and his zowa/Grisha abilities, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“a tiny voice inside him said he should offer to take the drug as well […] maybe he could have helped to draw the parem out of Nina’s system and set her free. But that was a hero’s voice and Jesper had long since stopped thinking he had the makings of a hero” - Jesper Fahey, Six of Crows chapter 44
“Matthias gave you the remaining parem, didn’t he?” “So?” “[…] I can’t let my father down again. I need the parem as a security measure” “No” “Why the hell not?” - Jesper and Kaz in discussion about the auction plan, Crooked Kingdom chapter 30
I'll probably be back to add more, feel free to add your own as well
#prepared to cry every time the unarmed quotes come up omg#and i love parallels we all know that but also#another thing from chapter 36 that we do not talk enough about#'it's not a gift it's a curse' but when it came down to it Jesper's life had been full of blessings#His father his mother Inej Nina Matthias leading them across the muddy canal#Kaz even Kaz#with all his cruelties and failings had given him a home and a family in the dregs when Ketterdam might have swallowed him whole#and wylan#wylan who had understood before Jepser ever had that the power inside him might be a blessing too#like this quote????????#it's so underrated?????????????#in fact stay tuned because now that I'm thinking about it it's probably about to get its own post#six of crows#crooked kingdom#grishaverse#jesper fahey#leigh bardugo#kaz brekker#inej ghafa#wylan van eck#nina zenik#matthias helvar#soc meta#six of crows analysis#kanej#wesper#helnik#this has been in my drafts for months and months and months literally just because i couldn't be bothered to find the chapter references lo

I’ve grown to appreciate the aus where Shen Yuan enters the story as “Shen Yuan” - same name, probably similar face, generally able to interact with PIDW as himself and change the story through his added presence. I like the sense of “if only you’d been here, things might have been better the first time around” of it all.
And I was thinking, it’s a funny coincidence in that scenario that someone named Shen Yuan gets put into… another Shen Yuan. What are the chances? What a weird twist of fate that Airplane would pick out the name that his most dedicated critic could slip into seamlessly.
What about a version where it’s not coincidence at all?
Airplane goes to school with a kid named Shen Yuan. He’s prickly and hard to approach and a little intense, but Airplane is persistent. In fairness, Airplane is relentless - and maybe it’s a good thing that they end up being friends, because they’re a little too much for anyone else to handle. They balance each other out. They’re the “weird kids” in class and they’re okay with that, because even when they don’t have any words for it, they know they’re not like their classmates, not really. That’s okay; they don’t want to be.
Recesses and breaks are consumed with the elaborate stories that Airplane wants to tell, and all the holes Shen Yuan pokes into them. It’s not mean-spirited, though, even though Shen Yuan isn’t the kind to temper his words. It’s passionate. He cares about those stories the way Airplane cares about them, and it can’t be mistaken for anything else when they lean together conspiratorially across the lunchroom table. They’ve both got notebooks filled with details and characters and monsters. Shen Yuan’s practically got a whole bestiary sketched out in wobbly childhood attempts at art, entries fervently scrawled beside them. Airplane prattles out plots nonstop, always with the promise of shining eyes and being asked “what happens next?”
They come up with a whole world together. Airplane’s going to write about it someday. Shen Yuan is going to read every word.
Shen Yuan misses school. Shen Yuan starts missing school a lot.
Airplane goes to the hospital room instead. He doesn’t think to worry, because Shen Yuan is okay - that’s what he says. He looks okay, and he’s a kid, and it doesn’t feel real that anything bad should happen to a kid. He doesn’t think to worry. He doesn’t think to say goodbye.
It’s one of the older Shen brothers who catches him on the way up to the room one day, in the hallway just outside - snaps at him to go the fuck home, and when Airplane hesitates, pushes him into the elevator and tells him not to come back. “Tells” is a generous way to describe the way the words come out - a growl, a hiss, the sound an animal would make when a hand got too close to a wound.
(It’s not fair to name a villain after him, even if the name never really comes up in the story. He wasn’t trying to be mean. He’d lost a brother minutes before, and he was getting his brother’s friend out of the way so he didn’t have to… see. It isn’t fair, but then, none of it is fair.)
Death feels very real after that.
The notebooks get shoved into a closet, and it’s not until Airplane’s moving out and one falls on him from a high shelf that he thinks about it again. He’s written things, lots of things, but nothing as ambitious as this - nothing as important. It could be good, he considers. He’d promised. Shen Yuan wanted to read it.
The problem was that no one else does, not for a long time, not until Airplane has whittled himself and his art into a corner and into such an unfamiliar shape that he has to wonder how it’s still his own face he sees in the mirror. He has to eat. He has to pay rent. Shen Yuan would yell at him, but Shen Yuan isn’t there to yell at him, and who cares. Who cares if it could have been better? The people who actually are here love it, and it’s paying his bills, and sometimes stories don’t go the way they’re supposed to and the world is fucking unfair. It doesn’t matter.
(It does. But he shoves that thought away along with styrofoam cups and soda bottles to the bottom of a garbage bag.)
Authors are not gods and their power is limited, but Airplane exercises just a sliver of what he’s been granted and gifts an inconsequential sort of immortality. He thinks about making him a rogue cultivator, maybe the kind that goes around documenting beasts and compiling his findings. He thinks about making him someone too powerful for death to touch, or too important to threaten, but when Airplane looks at the world he crafted and everything that’s become of it, it feels like the kindest thing he can do for Shen Yuan is a childhood where he’s loved, and a death that’s peaceful. What does it say about that world, that he’d kill off his best friend too early again instead of making him live there?
(The best writing he ever does is the only, shining moment of humanity that his scum villain ever displays: a lament about death that comes too early, about a brother gone too soon. The commenters praise him. The commenters flatter over how real the emotions feel. The commenters don’t get any response from Airplane on that chapter.)
Death is incredibly real when it comes for him too early, too, still hovering over his keyboard with the story technically finished and incredibly incomplete. Airplane could tell himself that’s because the written version can never be the version in the writer’s head, always shifting and with every possibility still on the table, but he knows better than that. The System knows better than that, with its condescending message about “improving” his writing and “closing plot holes” and “achieving his original vision”...
…and he’s a child again. He’s a child in his own story, he’s Shang Qinghua now without the benefit yet of a peak or cultivation or anything, and maybe he’s a little bitter, and a little scared, and…
And Shen Yuan - with longer hair, with robes, with a couple of older kids watching him from across the street, but undeniably the prickly little boy who used to sit down imperiously across from him and tell him everything that was wrong with the chuck of writing that had been handed to him last period, but with that smile that said he was only invested because he knew it could be better and they were going to make it better - marches up to him with a fire in his eyes and a frown that warns of a coming tirade.
“You told it wrong,” is the first thing he says.
Shang Qinghua wants to ask how him how he’s here, how this is possible, or maybe laugh because, yeah - yeah, Shen Yuan has no goddamn idea how wrong he got absolutely everything.
(Shang Qinghua wants to say “I missed you” and “why did you leave so soon” but he’s here now. He’s right here.)
“I know,” he says instead. “I’m sorry. It all kind of… spiraled out of control.”
Shen Yuan frowns, but then it dissipates the way it always does, and his eyes shine with ideas the way they always used to. “That’s okay,” he relents, grabbing for his hand. “We’ll fix it. We’ll make it what it was supposed to be.”
#scum villain self saving system#svsss#shang qinghua#shen yuan#airplane shooting towards the sky#this got more into the feelings than i thought it would#surprising no one#anyway just! childhood friends au! as a reason for a shen yuan insert!#obviously he is not going to die as a child in this version#shang qinghua would not have that nope not again#also pls consider poor shen jiu who looks at this child that shen yuan has picked out for a best friend like '...really? that one??'#(it's up to you if he's shen yuan's actual brother from his first life)#(put there's a part of me that likes the idea that shen jiu also gets a second chance to spend more time with his brother)#a second chance for them to grow up together!#THAT SAID#RIP TO SHANG QINGHUA#WHEN SHEN YUAN IS OLD ENOUGH TO LEARN ABOUT ALL THE PAPAPA#the LOOKS shang qinghua is going to get#anyway here have a thing because I CANNOT add another au to my drafts thank you and goodbyyyyye

I just realized that the first and last lumity kiss we get in TOH is Amity kissing Luz on the cheek
Ik ik it’s a very random (and obvious) detail but something about it very cute especially if you observe the differences between the kisses
Like that first one Amity just does it, she looks so shocked by it just like Luz does but in that second one you can tell how comfortable they are with their relationship now because Amity immediately kisses her with no hesitation and Luz returns that affection immediately even when her focus is on the others. Also in that first gif, the kiss is quick and after Amity realizes she’s kissed Luz, she puts space between them. In the second one, she kisses Luz’s cheek for a few seconds before pulling away, and even after pulling away she stays close to Luz.
Their relationship has grown so much it’s so CUTE <3
#they are the cutest ever#lumity is THE ship I love them<33#have another post from my drafts bc I’m in a lumity mood today#the owl house#lumity#Alex posts things

Remaining kitties for the garden
Here are all the kitties who didn't make it to the website and their pet screens c:
^The regular kitties (The nothing option would make Error show up and just kinda glare at everybody lol and there would be mirror and paper bag options to see Dust and Horror again)
^The winter kitties (The snow option would bring out Blue and Dream, the christmas lights brought Fresh and the stocking was Ink)
^The special pairs (I don't think any of these made it to the polls lol but putting out a bed would bring Horror and Dust together, putting out a rainbow cushion would bring Color and Killer (this was how you would finally be able to pet him) and putting down comic books would bring Epic and Cross, who would finally purr when pet with his bestie)
#UTDR#UTMV#Neko Sansume#My Art#I had some semblance of plot ideas too but this post is already kinda long so I'll dump them all in tags#Error's plotline was going to be about gaining his trust. every time he showed up he would be all grumpy and maybe ruining other cats' toys#And eventually you would get the option to give him a ball of yarn that he'd finally play with#And if you gave him another he would make you a special glove c:#(This would end up letting you pet him and also Reaper without dying lol)#Dust's plot was going to be about getting him his signature hood so he could feel hidden#He would still look grumpy but he would be slightly happier lol#Horror's involved being able to feed him because every other time you saw him he'd be eating trash#Like the way he's eating a receipt in the pet screen^ you would be trying to give him proper treats#There was a plotline to get the apple twins to be friends again because of course there was#It is *me* running it what do you expect lol#Killer's plot was about being able to pet him since he was so powerfully bitey#Color was helping him work on it. when he could get Killer away from Nightmare of course#Cross's plot was about him learning to accept affection and purr after he came from a bad home#Epic was intent on helping him relax#I think that's it? There's probably more I'm forgetting but that's most of them at least c:#Like I said in the other post if anybody wants to take any pieces from this and do their own thing feel free!#Maybe I'll draw them as kitties again someday#Also thank you Pidge for reminding me so this didn't sit in my drafts for another 3 weeks lol
