well, unfortunately a few days ago, Canada Post put in a 72 hour notice to a possible strike, and today it went through so nothing is being accepted/processed/delivered until negotiation agreements are reached. I hope things go well for the union but hoo, definitely a bit stressful since I aimed to open shop after the weekend but that's now on pause. Fingers very crossed for things to work out quickly and I’ll keep everyone updated 🤞

I’m so enamored with Troy and Blink’s friendship bc like. These are two people who have not experienced actual friendship for a long time. And both of them have built up defense mechanisms to deal with that loneliness: Blink does everything asked of him to be helpful and wanted and needed, and Troy puts on a facade of a strong popular sportsguy to appear tough and admirable. But these traits are also what drive people away from them. No one ever truly gets close to Blink bc he’s deferential to everyone’s wants, and it leads to Blink building up resentment when he continues doing good things and gets nothing out of it. Troy’s performance of popularity really just makes him an asshole, and he’s unable to be genuine and more likely to do stupid things that hurt people

And so over the course of Wonderlust both of them have been drifting closer to friendship through plot and shenanigans, and then pushing each other away through the same flaws that they developed to deal with loneliness. Troy puffs himself up, Blink deprioritizes himself; Troy takes advantage of Blink, Blink hides resentment for Troy that bubbles up at unhelpful times. Episode 15 felt like a crazy turning point bc they’re 1. Directly recognizing their own flaws, 2. Making a commitment to working on them, and 3. Agreeing to help each other with them. And like!! Isn’t that insane!! We met not even a week ago, have been through and put each other through hell, and now I see what holds you back and I will stick with you as we both grow to become people that others might also want to be around!!

Anyways this is why I think Troy and Blink as besties is the best possible outcome and I hope they continue on this trajectory of not making each other worse and in fact reversing course on that process

and btw since I'm posting a lot of wholesoul content (intended as platonic but still), i do want to make it clear: my analysis of whole as a character is purely within the narrative of the story! while i am aware that behind the metaphors is whole is cj himself, that's never what i'm writing whole as in my work. basically I'm using the internal logic of the fiction (whole as viewed by the characters in the album) rather than the reason for the fiction existing (as a fictionalized version of chonny's mental state), just like i do with all the other characters. it's important to make that distinction when you're dealing with a piece of fiction so heavily based on the creator i think. I'll never use cj as a basis for how I write whole because I find that a little off putting tbh ^^;

maybe a hot take: i am obsessed with the idea of pre tfc kandrew. not in a relationship sense but in a messy hooking up situationship type thing. just andrew being pissed off at all the problems kevin is causing and how he’s such an asshole all the time and yet is begging for his protection. (well as pissed off as his meds will let him be. and the fact that he can’t feel all the negativity that he wants to feel towards kevin just provides more fuel to the fire). so kevin becomes one of the men andrew hooks up with. andrew gets to tie kevin down after he’s been an asshole all day or maybe it’s something drunk after eden’s. and kevin is just emotionally all over the place because he left the nest, he doesn’t know if he will ever play again, is terrified of riko and the moriyamas and he just wants to be used to escape his head. it’s not necessary healthy for either of them but it is consensual and enthusiastic. idk some sort of dynamic like this just makes a lot of sense to me for them pre-tfc

I can’t stop thinking about Remus representing jealousy and envy, in the same way Roman isn’t just creativity, he’s also ego, pride, and passion. It always felt a little lopsided to me that they were halves a whole, and yet Roman has all this extra stuff. But what if Remus has some extra stuff of his own, things that mirror Roman’s extra stuff. 

Consider the feeling you get when you work very hard on something creative, something you’re proud of, only for your work to be passed over for someone else. Consider the envy you might feel when someone else succeeds in the same area you wish you could. Even when it’s a friend, someone you care about, that feeling creeps up sometimes. Don’t you deserve the recognition just as much as they do, if not more? Or maybe, they made something better than you, and you wish it was yours. Either way, that’s envy. Wanting something someone else has. 

Alternatively, consider jealousy, in a romantic sense. The moments when your partner seems to click with someone else, or someone flirts with them, or they’re just plain spending more time with other people than you. It happens, it’s normal. But you can’t help that niggling sense of jealousy in the back of your mind, fueled by insecurity and fear of losing the one you love, that some might take what’s yours away from you. Maybe you imagine in great detail what they’re doing right now, or any number of scenarios in which they leave you or cheat on you. You know you’re being irrational, but even so it’s hard to put those thoughts to rest. 

In both cases, these aren’t wanted feelings, but they’re there anyway, a lot like intrusive thoughts (and in fact in some situations they can be a form of intrusive thought!), and they’re also both extensions of things that Roman represents. Envy and jealousy are both forms of desire tempered with ego and insecurity.

So, where Roman is pride in your work, and desire and passion for your partner, and Remus is wondering why someone else got rewarded for their work and you didn't, and the fear someone will take away the one you love.

In other words, Remus makes you green with envy.
