I hate this notion there is that asexual and aromatic (and all Aspec people, for that matter) are not discriminated against. Especially in queer circles that should be a safe space.

Like sure maybe our identities are easier make it easier to fake straightness (not really any more than bi/pan people, and is that even good for us, emotionally?), maybe our issues aren’t systemic (not really, considering the prevalence of Amatonormativity and how deeply it is rooted in the way said systems were made), maybe people are more willing to accept us (not really, we’re treated as wrong, broken, needed to be fixed just as often if not more, even in places we should feel safe).

Tell me how my grandfather, who I love very dearly, asking me to lie to him when he’s on his death bed, and tell him I am dating some nice boy to make him happy, isn’t hurtful, isn’t discrimination.

Tell me how my (queer) friends all infantilizing me after coming out, treating me like I was too pure to hear anything sexual, not saying things around me that didn’t bother me before I came out and would’ve continued not to after, isn’t discrimination.

Tell me how me explaining my identity to people and getting pitying looks, at best, and active denials of existence, at worst, isn’t discrimination.

Tell me how me headcannoning a character as Asexual or Aromantic, or ‘shipping’ two characters queer platonically and immediately getting shut down (mostly by other queer people saying they’re gay), isn’t discrimination.

TELL ME HOW ME NEVER SEEING ASEXUALITY OR AROMANTISM EVEN MENTIONED IN PRIDE DOCUMENTARIES ISN’T DISCRIMINATION

Maybe our issues are all social (not really) but that doesn’t make our struggle nothing. That doesn’t mean we don’t deserve support. That doesn’t mean our stories are less deserving of being told. That doesn’t mean we aren’t a part of your community.

I’m sick and tired of people pretending we don’t exist. Pretending we’re not deserving of the same attention, representation, and respect as other members of the community.

Neglect is still abuse. 1% is still a number. We’re here and we’re queer too.

Stand with us. Yell with us. Help us make ourselves known. Help us spread our message.

Because, god, I am so sick and tired of being ignored.

Apparently, Alastor is not canonically aromantic?? Amir apologized on Twitter a few days ago, stating that it's not confirmed and it was a misinfo on his side..

okay. I'm putting my other asks a bit on hold for this, I have seen that tweet, I was hoping I wouldn't have to talk about it though but I think it's good to address it, let me take it apart

he says alastor being aromantic is not "explicitly known", only his asexuality is because "ace" is verbally stated in the script (also yes he made a cannon/canon joke)

I don't think the tweet should be taken as "nooo alastor being aromantic is deconfirmed :(" because it moreso puts emphasis on his asexuality being 100% undeniably canon.

keyword I think is "EXPLICITLY KNOWN"

I still think the context in which alastor's asexuality is confirmed in-canon ALSO implies aromanticism because the context which rosie jokes about is alastor dating charlie and she basically says "HAHAHA jk I know you'd never do that because I know you're aroace! (ace in the hole)", of course there are issues in that, they use ace here to describe an aromantic situation, which isn't good because the two get mixed up as it is but it's honestly better than nothing, most aspec characters don't even get THAT

but either way, how I see it:

alastor's asexuality is explicit (stated verbally in the text)

alastor's aromanticism is implicit (implied in the text)

I don't think alastor's aroaceness is necessarily less canon now, sure the amir talai word of god was withdrawn but the implication that alastor is also aro is still in the text with the rosie dialogue

Just saw someone saying that the main 4 in Riverdale getting in a polycule is the best ending that could have happened and when someone pointed out that Jughead is aroace and romance repulsed they got super butthurt bc "it was not cannon in the original comics" and "it was not canon in the show"

That's what I say, before following any alloallo person in fandom and listening to their opinions the first thing you need to look for is if they are normal about aspecs. Most are not

I can't even count the times when I see a queer person in fandom, usually so up in arms about representation, happily erasing aspec characters' sexuality

Tori is really precious to me because while I love seeing that aroace representation (cause yall deserve it <3) Tori is the first character I've ever seen be cannonically ace without being aro.

It does often feel like it's assumed the two can not be separated. That you can't have love without sex, or sex without romance even. Even though I'm an ace person who occasionally enjoys sexual things, it doesn't change the fact that I'm ace, and that can be a scary thing sometimes. Feeling like no one will stay because sex is supposedly one of the defining factors for a romantic relationship. I can't imagine how much even more scary that must feel to ace folks who don't like or are repulsed by sex. There is love without sex, and Tori is such a comfort to me in my own ace and queer journey, however confusing and scary it can be at times.

Anyway, this is just a Tori love post. There's a lot of great things about her, but her representing those of us from the aspec community who are only aro or only ace is just really validating.

So I am kinda confused on when it is "okay" to change the sexualities/romantic orientation/gender of fictional characters. Like if forsay a character is straight in all ways and feels the gender that they were born and there is a cannon ship for them, is it okay to either change their sexuality/romantic orientation/gender and ship em with a different character or specifically change those orientation to aspec terms and just... Not ship em? This question comes from basically Wednesday that ppl thought she's ace and stuffs but she is not. I've seen people shipping her with friend which I understand I guess but on the other hand when she wasn't shipped and made aspec it was not okay? Idk I am confused on the shipping and how it is okay to ship just anyone with anyone, they are fictional characters afterall so who am i to judge... Oh well

Fantasy high isn't as overt in it's ace rep as A Crown Of Candy is, so if you're specifically looking for explicitly ace characters and don't mind high stakes and seeing your blorbos subjected to the horrors I'd definitely recommend that season too.

[Very minor FH spoilers I'm gonna briefly talk about the aspec rep :)]

Adine cannonically is exploring the possibility of being aro/ace, but it’s not something that is particularly central to her character, so while it's reflected in the roleplay I don't particularly remember it being discussed in depth.

Riz is definitely read as allo by some people, but a lot of his character arc in s2 just resonated with me as an aro person so I'm claiming him. I don’t think he ever specifically describes himself as ace or aro, but like he spends enough time going "all of my friends are obsessed with sex and dating and I don't understand why so there must be something wrong with me" so like... #relatable if he's not some kind of arospec I'd be surprised

So yeah like the bad kids are kids, which means that naturally they're a lot less sure about their identities than older characters might be, but at least to me it felt like a pretty realistic depiction of how it feels when you first start figuring out that you're aspec. <3

Eden - Main storyline would have several parts that follow a group of students at an adventurers academy. Multiple side storylines would follow characters who aren't students. Super powers, war, politcal intrigue, and social commentary are the main flavours of this series. A collection of myths and legends of the world would accompany the main series. Started out cause I wanted to make a team for a RWBY RP, but then became it's own thing, though there's still some noticibly RWBY elements in the plot/structure 2017

Unnamed - tradgi(rom?)com about two friends and/or lovers who make a suicide pact, but only mc goes through with it. inspired by "walk through hell" by Anson Seabra 2024

Alright I was asked to talk about my OCS :3

Anyways this is the little bastard I’ve been writing for 2 years? He started as a WW1 era character actually but I decided I wanted to make a fantasy character again so here he is. The fantasy world he lives in is most similar to 50’s America with tech, but the fashion is more modern. Though I dress him like a traditional fantasy character. He’s supposed to be a sort of wood elf but I don’t have a name for the fantasy races yet (I need to worldbuild). He looks serious af here but do not let that fool you he is a silly little man most the time. Whenever he’s doing mage duties he tries to be serious. He’s a mage for hire, so if someone has a problem (usually magical) he gets paid to take care of it. The ribbon he wears is kinda like a uniform. Other mages for hire don’t really wear them anymore but he does when he’s on quests so he can look professional.

Also was raised by fae for most of his childhood, and I’m probably gonna write about that in a wholesome little prequel comic. He first starts using magic at 9 or so but it’s super weak, once he’s a teenager to cast better spells.

He left at 17 or 18 so he could become a certified mage and see the world. Before the main story starts he looses his eye but I haven’t decided where or when. It always happens in every draft, the idea stuck with me I guess. I guess the “magical character that doesn’t rely on their vision” trope spoke to me. Uhh what else

he has a bunch of familiars, but the main one that follows him around most the time is his crow named Basil, who’s the son of the crow he befriended as a child. His main magic is nature/Druid? Magic, basically he’s like Bulbasaur. Also talks to animals, and can summon his familiars. He can also shapeshift into animals but only a select few (right now he can only shapeshift into a kestrel, rat, wolf).

I made him into a glass cannon pretty much. Worlds most eepy magic guy. I didn’t want to make him super powerful because I found magic characters like that kinda boring. But it’s also fun to give characters cool powers 👀.

Though he is trying to learn a spell from each type of mage magic. Jack of all trades stuff.

Also his staff is kinda inspired by Sakura’s staff in Cardcaptor Sakura, idk something about wing motiffs…

He’s trans also! I kinda based that aspect on me haha… he was a pretty tomboyish child so when he realized he was trans he was like “oh I see now” and his family was like alright :D. Perks of being raised in the woods by fae, gender roles are kinda non existent ig. He named himself after a character from his favorite childhood book. Also gay aspec (me when I project).

Other stuff! He’s a pretty good dancer and likes fashion which are traits I took from when he was a historical OC.

Basically uhh I just wanted to write a little goober who went through a lot of shit but still looks at life positively and wants to help people. A friend. A little goober even.

I’ll try to get a good drawing of his boyfriend Oswald who is a bard and also a silly goober. Also hopefully Isaac’s familiars and his family members.

I'm going to say something controversial: I think Crushed is better than High School Daze.

Like, hsd's mc is a self-insert, but I felt so much more connected to Corey as a character! I love the way you write slice of life stories though, and I really felt it in Crushed! It's weird but I loved the scenes where Corey is working at the bookstore and the little interactions he had, and I ADORE his friends!!!!

I think Keegan is fucking hilarious (and 100% ship her with Okechukwu, please tell me they end up together dear game dev 👀)

Also I wish the game was longer lol, I know you said you meant it to be short, but I could totally take another scene with everyone going back to school after the break. I know they get into some crazy shit

It soooo doesn't hurt me that you think Crushed is better. To me, that means I've grown as a dev and as a writer so that's such high praise I'm crying into my keyboard, thanks 😭😭😭

Crushed 100% could have been longer. It was almost longer. It is definitely longer than what I set out back when it was a jam entry, damn. But I think its short length was perfect for the story.

...Also as long as I have a personal appetite for slice of life/realistic stories, y'all will be stuck with those games!!!! Sorry in advance!!!!

Oke mirrors a lot of things I've gone through and struggled with and experienced, especially with being aspec but not knowing it applies to him/me/us 😂 so because he has to connect some dots, well a lot of dots, he and Keegan won't become a couple until their college years.

There was a draft where I had some lines about Oke, but they got cut because I would have wanted to go more into his POV when the game is supposed to be about Corey and his problems (like...umm madam, chill, one struggling queer baby at a time @me. Though I did cheat a bit with Keegan, but she and Corey are a package deal and she doesn't have as big an arc as Oke does or even Corey did.

ANYWAY Oke and Keegan as friends, individuals, and an eventual couple could be their own post, and I have played around with continuing their story but we'll table this discussion for now.)
