Summary: General dating/relationship headcanons for Varian

As friends, you're kinda like nerd buddies! Varian would rant to you on and on when you visited him in his lab. After a bit, Ruddiger seemed to grow affectionate towards you, so you kept visiting. You'd help him with his experiments sometimes, but you'd mainly hang out with Ruddiger, reading a book somewhere. The two of you grew close! And.. Varian found himself hoping you'd visit more and more.

As partners? Well, Varian doesn't change much, but he definitely becomes a lot more awkward. He tries at romantic advances, but.. they don't turn out well. While dating him, expect lots of dorky, unsuccessful flirting attempts.

He tries for you, though! Varian doesn't know much about romance, other than how to artificially create it. Which he.. hasn't figured out how to do yet. At least he has a natural source, now. He finds himself relating to a lot more.. lovey-dovey things, that he'd normally never understand. In a way, you opened his eyes to love. All of these emotions, suddenly exploding inside of him--all because of you. Sweet, huh?

Varian often finds himself distracted when you visit. He hardly gets any work done because you're there.. which is partly his fault, for looking at you every 20 seconds. He's grown a love-hate relationship to you visiting. Mainly "love", though.

After you leave, he immediately groans, thinking of all the things he did wrong around you. You can find him ranting to Ruddiger afterwards, mainly complaining about the way you made him feel. Not the way you made him feel, but rather the way you made him act. He feels a fool around you.. and wonders why you even love him back.

Ruddiger isn't gonna stand for that bullcrap. This little rat rascal bites Varian to snap him out of it. Once he gets over his self-concious arc, Varian finds himself smitten. Sometimes he becomes a blushing mess just thinking about you. Now he's tripping over his own feet, (with as awkward as he is), and Ruddiger feels as if he's made him even worse.

About the failed flirtings. They're hysterical. But, talking about some things that actually land in your relationship, are nicknames. For him, you range from Var, nerd, V, to some of the more romantic ones, like "hun". He seems to get flustered at that one. As for romantic nicknames for you? He.. well, he tries. In turn, Varian also uses hun or honey, seeing as they're the most comfortable, but he doesn't use them often. Either calls you by your initial (if it works), or just some inside joke like "geek" or "smart-alec"

Surprisingly, or maybe not, Varian's an absolute sucker for PDA. Him, being the dork he is, will explain to you the physical benefits on the human mind to hugs and physical affection--and when you actually hug him, he'll freeze. He's grown used to your touch, though, and finds himself hugging back most of time time, if you don't startle him. If anything, he loves to hold your hand. If he's opened up enough, he'll let you hold his hand without his gloves.. may not happen often, though. But yes, anywhere you're going, Varian's holding your hand. No way around it.

Sometimes you'd fall asleep at his lab, most likely with a book in your hand, and it's the most adorable thing he's seen. Theres an 89% chance that Ruddiger's there, snuggled up next to you. Varian makes sure to wake you up before it gets late.. on your busy days. If he knows you have nothing to do in the morning.. he'll leave you be to sleep till morning. He knows you need the rest, and you looked too cute peaceful to wake up now. (This situation can go for Varian aswell, especially if he spends nights awake working on experimenting)

As for dates, you two would have many home-dates, but if you're going anywhere, you're going to the library! Despite the location being extremely tame, he still feels nervous asking you out. Corona's libraries were always quiet and peaceful, and the best place for Varian to nerd out to you about any chemistry books that they happened to have. Either this, or a field somewhere out in Old Corona. Exploring dates were fun aswell, where one of you would take a backpack and just wander around the forests, chatting about any little thing that comes to your mind. If nowhere else--Monty's sweet shop, if it's a special day of sorts, like the Day of Hearts.

Oh, how could I forget? The Day of Hearts was always a holiday that Varian would pass over, seeing as he had more important things to do than indulge himself in romance with.. himself only. So when you reminded him about it, he almost spit out his hot cocoa. And if he was being completely honest, he most definitely forgot about it. Feels slightly ashamed, but now excited for the holiday! Excited to spend it with you, mainly.. And of course, you sign the journal together. Varian's still a nervous wreck, so his signature was a bit more shaky than he'd like it to be. It was the thought that counted.. right? If you stumble into Rapunzel and Eugene at the festival, expect lots of adoring coo-ing from Rapunzel and relentless teasing from Eugene. He's still as dorky and sarcastic as ever when confronted with the teasing, but the fit of flushed red on his face gave away everything you needed to know.

But Rapunzel's right. The two of you are extremely cute together, you even look like you were made for each other! The simple thought of that makes Varian want to faint, but he'll come to terms with it eventually. Just know that romance is definitely not his strong suit, but he managed to not draw you away, so he's gotta be doing something. Otherwise, Varian stays his loveable, dorky, sarcastic self. But now, with just a little bit more of hand holding.

And you did sign the Day of Hearts journal together, so if that doesn't give you a telltale sign of where your relationship is going, I don't know what will.

Hi, so I don't have ASPD, but my best friend does. I've been doing research on ASPD to understand it better and while I think I do have a general idea on what it is and its causes, I can't find any reliable source other than pwASPD speaking their experiences and like one Psych Central article.

I was wondering if you could give some guidance on where to look for more details on how ASPD affects people in different ways and if there's any reliable websites to look at?

This is actually quite the challenge indeed, since theres not even an agreement on what information about ASPD is "reliable" and should be trusted! So theres unfortunately not a website or a collection or anything that I can point you to!

But I do have some general advice (which is solely based on what I personally think gives you a well rounded understanding of the condition):

• read both, the current DSM-5 ASPD criteria (with all sections under the criteria list itself) and the proposed alternative criteria in the back of the DSM-5 (its a downloadable PDF). then take that information and compare it to any more recent scientific articles about ASPD and see whats confirmed, whats prevalant, where research isn't sure, etc. (you can find articles usually by typing "x symptom in ASPD scientific article" into google. if you have access to libraries they also have some printed versions of psychology related magazines/journals sometimes)

• also look into the history (wikipedia actually details some of those steps nicely, but earlier versions of the DSM-5 do as well) to understand how the category evolved, as that especially furthers understanding on the distinction between sociopathy & psychopathy, the term changes, current debates, etc.

• once you have a good outlook on it from that point, possibly also consume some articles/books on general personality theories and the general info about specific symptoms and how they come to be, as well as trauma theories => then you combine that with your understanding about ASPD as a specific condition and a lot kinda falls into place rly?

• then you round that up by reading about peoples personal experiences on all types of platforms and mediums! you have to kinda assume that any experience may fall somewhere on the spectrum (tho many ppl may also group experiences under the ASPD label, that arent technically truly caused by it...but yk you'll never rly be able to judge that, unless you are a specific persons therapist/the person itself, so assuming it as a possibility is usually the way to go)

=> You may wanna teach yourself how to spot a reliable scientific article, which means you gotta learn how scientists are supposed to word stuff, what good sources look like, how conclusions should/can be drawn and whether or not the math is right. at the same time you gotta remember that science is never fact but always just an assumption based on evidence that seems true in the moment/supports the theory. so personal experience & science do not always get along! oh and pay attention to where the studies are done, with how many people, who those ppl are, etc. => aka whether the findings even represent a broad enough group of ppl so they can generalize that! (theres books on this shit too)

=> Additionally theres (at least) 2 different perceptions of ASPD going on rn! 1. ASPD as a personality disorder and this being a valid concept and 2. ASPD being a trauma response that ofc affects your personality but that doesnt mean its disordered or wrong in any way. Its helpful to take a look at both perspectives and also do some reading & thinking on personality disorders as a concept overall, what recovery as a concept means for these conditions, etc.

Well and tbh the best and most reliable source for you, may just be your best friend! Cus in the end their individual presentation is what matters and what you would benefit from understanding! So make sure to ask questions if ur friend is comfy with that and learn about what they personally need & are like!

Long story short: Understanding ASPD starts and ends with a well rounded overall understanding of psychology & a sort of grip and feeling for how broad presentation spectrums are and what science can & can't capture. Its something you kinda aquire once you spend a lot of time in these spaces and the amount of reading you do & exposure you have? Which is maybe not a satisfying answer, but it is what it is, cus unfortunately ASPD is still underesearched!

everyone takes canon in different ways: is "dual dreamers" a doom thing, or a captor thing? is "passion for justice" a mind thing, or a pyrope thing? should everything be analysed via dichotomies, or not? are the characters just wrong sometimes, or biased in how they view their own classpect? is SBURB itself subjective in how it assigns classpects, does *IT* have biases? we literally cannot know for sure unless one of us is secretly andrew hussie.

so none of us can truly arbitrate/enforce on others how almost any of it should work. none of us can fundamentally assess these things in "more canon" ways cus we aren't hussie. am i making sense

How can I continue to persist after becoming disillusioned? Is all this real? Since I saw something about the law, something that has given me proof that everything is false, I have questioned the law and started to feel that everything is a lie and that I have been wasting my time, now I am depressed, every time I read the stories of success, I believed them and looked at them. as hope now Nothing will be like before, I wanted the look of my dreams, I wanted the life of my dreams, but now I feel like everything has already gone to shit, my desires collapsed in a second, I've been trying to manifest. . Me for 4 years. Years and nothing has changed, I had high hopes but now I feel like I was never a god, I had a list of things I wanted to do when I became a master manifestor but I think it was all an illusion, now I'm going to stay locked in this fucking shit of the 3D. Honey, don't worry, I've been there. I know how hopeless that feels. How you feel your heart clench and your mind going crazy when you see success stories, I know that horrible feeling honey. Unfortunately, we're the ones that's responsible for our states.

We're the ones that chose this state of hopelessness. Only we have the power to change it, and not success stories. It's cause we focus on changing the outer reality practically & logically since human mind is designed to work like that. But the ones who chose to throw the perspective of physical senses away, and chose to believe in the illogical, unreal stuff, that helps to change everything, win. They win. I'll tell you, the way your mindset is, is not your fault since we're influenced by the outer reality. So we tend to think in the society's perspective. The law is real sweetheart. Just take action upon yourself in your mind, and see the magic of the law. I know it's a harder pill to swallow, but that's the truth. I really understand how you feel, but love, isn't it exhausting to live a life which isn't making you happy? I don't know your age, but think of me as your elder sister, and please listen. Life has given you this opportunity to know about the law honey, yet, you struggle to apply this small concept. It's okay till now honey, but now you know, start applying. Yes it's sometimes hard being delusional and persist, but as you go on, it's easy as fuck.

Coming to the law, what does the law state? Whatever you assume to be true is true. Full stop. How do you assume? Induce the thoughts of your desires already done, live as if it's done cus it already is, you already have them, and deny the rest and move on. That's it. You don't even have to wait. Tf time doesn't exist. There's no overcomplicating shit. It's just simple as that. You already are a master manifestor, you're just manifesting the wrong stuff, my love. Focus your attention, feelings and thoughts on what you desire. You already are what you desire. It's no more a desire. You're being the version of you who has your desire. You should change your self, and nothing else. Stop expecting the 3d to change, when the source hasn't been changed. That's it honey, that's all you gotta do and you don't even need to lift a finger.

so i’ve been drawing ulster cycle/tain bo cuailnge characters for a while now and a problem that i have repeatedly run into is that i have no idea how these people dress. their clothes always end up looking wrong and i don’t know where to look to find good info about it or references to work from, and it can be difficult to differentiate the more faithful depictions from the stereotypical “ancient celtic warrior” stuff, especially since i’m not well versed in most of the texts they’re based on. do you have any advice/resources/tips/anything to help? thanks :)

i am not particularly an expert on historic clothing and i have to admit it's not an area i have a great deal of knowledge about in the context of the ulster cycle specifically but here are some thoughts!

a good starting point would be the descriptions of clothes within the texts themselves. so you can just go to the online edition of o'rahilly's translations (recension 1 / book of leinster) and search a word like "cloak" or "tunic" and get all the descriptions of cloaks and tunics that show up in the story itself. e.g:

this is a good starting point bc what you'll be representing is at least clothing as it's presented in these stories even if it doesn't necessarily 100% represent historical fact, because it's often stylised, idealised, uses colours for symbolic value rather than practicalities of dyeing etc

(here's a link to the index of translated texts on this part of the CELT site if you wanna have a browse for others)

but that can be tricky without visual references which is where you start needing other sources

and that's where it's worth noting that the ulster cycle texts are set a long time before they're written, but the material culture in the stories is generally neither a historically accurate representation of the distant past, or a totally contemporary and up-to-date depiction of what people were wearing at the time (bc there's a degree of archaising and trying to make stuff sound old and also drawing on earlier sources). so you end up with multiple options for what period you might be trying to represent -- ~1st cent BCE when they're set? ~8th cent when our earliest surviving stories show up? ~11th-12th cent when TBC was written in its surviving form?

the good news is that you can probably learn a lot from reenactors and experimental archaeologists and living history types -- from vikings in ireland through to normans in ireland is pretty well covered in that regard, but there's some earlier bronze-iron age stuff as well, and that should give you some visual references to draw on. i'm sure some more reenactment and living history minded followers of mine will have specific recs for resources there, but you could try looking at the UCD experimental arch folks, craggaunowen living history centre in the west of ireland (they have a video on weaving and clothing), the dublinia museum for viking-age stuff, etc

and the big advantage of the texts not being "historically accurate" themselves is that you don't have to stick too closely to a specific century or whatever if you don't want to! not that the basic design of a tunic would change a huge amount but if you wanna mix and match the vibes somewhat, nobody could really call you out on it

the HARDEST part is probably representing armour, which shows up fairly rarely, but you've got things like cu chulainn's 27 'waxed shirts' and i've seen various theories about what that's supposed to entail but i don't think there's a definite answer. having said that, most of the time he's not wearing that so you can just... ignore it, if you want to and don't want to conform to any specific theory about it lol

finally you can't go wrong with tunics. just layers of tunics. long tunics under short tunics. tunics with cloaks. fancy tunics. simple tunics. people loved a tunic

I apologize if you're not the right person to ask but I've been wondering this for a while and since you both enjoy (but are critical of) lmk and also enjoy/know a lot about jttw I figure you may be a decent person to ask. And I mean this is as an entirely genuine question.

Jttw has so many different adaptations and parodies and, for lack of a better term, spinoffs, why is it that LMK in particular seems to get so much more criticism? How is it different from any other story that uses jttw as a base?

I was under the impression that while a lot of events and chatacters have been changed or tweaked in some ways (looking at red son in particular, as well as seemingly replacing Buddha with the jade emperor, I could go on) it was still relatively faithful at least in spirit. It has a lot of callbacks and mentions to the book, even if it's more or less an AU of the original story.

So why is it that its adaptation in particular seems so...disliked I suppose? Or at least takes a lot more criticism than other adaptations. I could take a few guesses (fandom (and its lack of knowledge of the source material) being a big one, or otherwise being more western than the story probably should be) but as someone who was introduced to jttw by lmk (reading the book now and having a blast with it) I'm curious and confused as to why it seems to be disliked when there are so many other jttw adaptations that also change fair chunks of the story, and those don't seem to garner the same level of criticism.

And I apologize again if you're maybe the wrong person to ask, but I wasn't sure where else to start, if you know anyone who can maybe answer this better I'd love to hear from any of them as well, I've been so curious about this for a while.

i do wanna preface this by saying that i have very little interaction with the LMK fandom, and mostly heard the horror stories through the grapevine or by others telling me their own experience with it. and make no mistake, this sideblog is very much me laser focusing on the few stuff i enjoy of the show and expanding on those and filling in the rest with a lot of plaster and spite ajdhawjhbdh

i will keep most of my vitriol to myself though, and that the opinion i'm giving is my own. there's a lot of good folks who are more than welcome to pitch in with their own criticisms here, for a larger poll of voices.

as you have said, JTTW has an overwhelming amount of retelling, rewrites, sequels, prequels, adaptations, what have you. trust me, there is a JTTW adaptation for everyone out there and it's part of the beauty and appeal of it. and equally, everyone has their pros and cons for each of them.

one major point to keep in mind is that LMK has a very online fanbase, and it's an abnormally large one. it also has fans on the west and in china, and the language barrier tends to keep both rather separate, for better or worse. so a larger fanbase means a larger pool of criticism simply by law of averages.

another thing to keep in mind is that, because it is so large, a lot of people are getting into JTTW thanks to it, and it's exactly those changes that make it even more of a hurdle for people to meet JTTW where it's at. and by that i mean, a very different worldview and belief system than known in the west.

i've been in the JTTW fandom properly for, three months now?? three and a half lol and the amount of reading and studying i've been doing to just scratch at the depth of centuries of cultural context is not insignificant. and i'm only just starting! it's a wonderful experience, but not many in the LMK fandom are as eager or willing to learn all that, much less listen when people correct them on things that they believe, that are factually false. and that can be deeply frustrating for those who simply want to share in the joy of learning.

it's incredibly demeaning and patronizing, to have such an old and rich culture reduced to a single adaptation that rly lambasts the roots of its entire premise for existing. no other fans of other adaptations have that kind of attitude that i've come across; those are all understood as AUs and not to be taken as gospel, but some of the fandom treat LMK as the end all be all of JTTW media and it's, infuriating.

beyond the fandom leaving one hell of a bitter taste, there's the fact that LMK is a very westernized view and parody of JTTW. it breaks not only with the lore of it, but with the very fundamentals of Buddhist and Daoist cosmology. those changes you mentioned, like the JE replacing Buddha and then the guy getting killed, the absence of several concepts and deities, and sometimes the very change of them, are incredibly disrespectful on their own. it's very hard to remove JTTW from its religious roots (it can be done but those usually read more as "inspired by" rather than proper adaptations), and to do so by filling the empty space with a Greco-Christian view of cosmology is... A Big Ol Yikes.

while we in the west might be okay turning stuff like Christian, Norse, Greek, etc. mythology upside down for our stories, it comes off as disrespectful to do the same for an overall dismissed and ignored religion in the west like Daoism, and even more so for such a sprawling one as Buddhism. that attitude does not translate well at all, and to be faithful only in spirit is simply not enough. you wouldn't (i hope) say that about people who appropriate Indigenous or closed faith beliefs for their own use; it's 2023 surely we don't need to revive the W-nd-ig- debate again, or the Lilith one. (i can for further context but i'd rather not, but you're than welcome to google it)

at the end of the day, an AU is just an AU until you're using it to sell toys and it has turned into a massive entry window for many western fans into a foundational piece of literature for an entire country that has been and still is routinely degraded and discriminated against.

i hope this hasn't come off as too harsh, but this is smth that rly grinds my gears and i tend to be a bit stern when discussing it. none of it was aimed at you anon, i know you're just trying to understand the situation and i do appreciate the effort you're making!!

The physical senses will NEVER provide fulfillment to the inner man, read that again. They are only there to prove what our inner state reflected into the external world. They don't create our experience, they prove it.

So I stopped seeking external fulfillment cus the external only reflected the internal, and the internal was obviously lacking, therefore it was lack that reflected (no shit Sherlock!)

I'm not sure if your situation with roles within your system but those memories from before you "existed" may have been assigned to you by a gate keeper or some one in your system with the power to manipulate amnesia.

@dorothygale123; The Demon Bull King turning out to be the decendant of the Flame Emperor/Divine Peasant (more commonly known as "Divine Farmer") actually gives his side of the story some extra spicyness! It also gives the Jade Emperor + Queen Mother greater reason to have not wanted Iron Fan and DBK to get hitched - thats some "about to be overthrown"-level of political clout. It also gives DBK a really cool motivation to rebel against Heaven + rule over earth: in his mind, his ancestor deserved to be Emperor over mankind and heaven for the good he did.

Shennong/Divine Peasant appears in a collection of mythos regarding the ancient age of "Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors". Each being is different depending on who you ask, but Shennong is always one of the Sovereigns, alongside Nuwa, Fuxi, and rarely Gonggong (god of water). The Five Emperors include the Yellow Emperor and his more noteworthy decendants. Shennong is either depicted as the Yellow Emperor's brother, or his father (again sources issue), but I prefer to go with the "waring brothers" angle since it makes it a juicy conflict. Apparently around this era there was co-ruling Five August Emperors nicknamed; the Yellow, Black, White, Red, and Blue-Green Emperors. Jade Emperor's rule occurs a bit later since he was busy doing 327 millions years of meditation before the Big God Yuanshi Tianzun declared him God-Emperor over the others.

Shennong/Divine Peasant is said to have failed to overthrow his brother, but was still beloved by his people (aww). And he pretty much spent the rest of his life dedicated to helping humanity understand fire, edible vs medicinal plants, and agriculture. For the guy who taught humanity farming to be a bull-man is oddly poetic in a way. Also major chad move of him; fails to overthrow the big Emperor (like his decendant), and instead of whining gets to experimenting on himself with wild plants so he can take care of his people better. He is said to have died via a flower-eating experiment gone wrong though.

I actually tracked down your source so I could read it for myself, cus Nuwa's parentage changes quite a bit depending on the sources; some say thunder god dad, some say Emperor dad, others say she was a primoridal parasite on Pangu's body etc... From the book you have, it appears that Shennong/Divine Peasant named his youngest daughter after Nuwa the goddess. The same character also dies as a child and transforms into the Jingwei bird, making it rather difficult for this Nuwa to be the same one who created humanity.

It should also be mentioned that "Yan/Yangdi/Flame/Firey Emperor" applied to multiple kinsman deities who held power at the same time who weren't related genetically. Houtu (another suspect of creating SWK) is even mentioned as a "Yan Emperor". The idea of the Divine Peasant and The Earth itself (themselves ancestors/creators of DBK and SWK) being sworn bros seems very cool af.

In short: DBK and SWK aren't related, but their ancestors/creators def knew eachother and were buddies - so much so that Shennong named one of his kids after Nuwa. Also this means DBK holds a threateningly large claim to the Celestial Throne if he ever argued for it.

I feel like if Shennong ever appeared in the LMK universe (like via the Scroll of Memory or another artifact), he'd look like a massive auroch-like minotaur/bull demon holding farming equipment. Red Son probably meets him on accident while trapped in the Scroll, and it takes Red until afterwards to realise that the "peasant bull" was his many-great-grandfather.

Also, here's my silliest reaction to learning that Shennong/Flame Emperor/The Divine Peasant is a literal cow-man;

listen i agree with the anon who said you're a misandrist role model which is why i'm coming to you with some conflicting thoughts on the idea of fandom misogyny.

i enjoy obikin & quiobi and am generally a multishipper; but most of my fav characters (obi-wan in sw context) are men in narratives that center men. sometimes i try to dissect the why behind it when 90% of my important relationships are with women, i'm the known "man-hater" in the family, etc. etc.

there's nothing wrong with enjoying fiction as fiction but the disconnect feels weird at times...especially when some mlm ship is so popular that female characters are collectively pushed out of the way. they're either manipulative bitches; unrealistically supportive of the relationship, the whole "fujoshing out" thing; or put into a different relationship because she's a girlboss that deserves better anyways; or is "an independent woman who doesn't need a man", you know?

obviously the source material plays a big role (i feel this way about padme; she's just not written as well as she could have been) but even when the female characters are complex and interesting, i just. don't tend to fixate on them.

this is a lot to unpack but was wondering if you have any thoughts.

ahhh i know exactly what you’re saying. i’ve been there. i don’t think there’s necessarily a solution or answer here but yes here are my thoughts 🫡

when it comes to star wars specifically, the women are not particularly well written. and if you find yourself latching onto the prequels specifically, you’re especially screwed lol. but like you said, star wars is a story that centers men, so of course they’re going to be the “best” characters. this is even true for media that doesn’t intend to center men, cus male writers don’t have a great record with creating interesting female characters. i don’t think it’s your fault for watching things like that and coming away liking a male character the most, i think it’s a natural consequence of the writing. on top of that, if you’re like me, and you’re not very into grandiose romance like anidala, it makes it that much harder to want to engage with the ship. even if it was super well written, it wouldn’t be my thing.

also: sometimes i think latching onto these fictional men is somewhat a result of not centering men irl. it’s fun to actually like a man and find him interesting when he’s not real and doesn’t come with any of the bullshit actual men bring along with them.

to your point about even when female characters are interesting you don’t fixate on them, i wouldn’t worry about it. don’t force yourself to be into something you’re not. it’s fiction, it’s fun. what you do with your actual life and how you support actual women is what matters.

lastly, it’s not your responsibility to course correct for people treating female characters like shit/changing their characters/etc. that’s not on you !

It’s a dumb reason, but it’s still a reason. So, don’t attack anyone or assume anything. This is just a rant.

Way back in 2015, my dad was writing a new song for this challenge he set for himself. I don’t remember the specifics, but he was surfing the web and found the Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty Meme. However, at the time, it wasn’t called Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty. It was mostly called Butterfly Rainbow Unicorn Cat.

I think most people know the image I’m referring to. I can’t find the original post.

The name was mostly undecided, so Dad went with Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty because it rolled off the tongue.

He made a song that revolved around the meme and commissioned me to make an album cover. You all probably know where this is going.

I was, I think twelve when I made the cover. I was new to drawing digitally and was trying some things out.

But yeah, I drew that cover. The name Bellapink5 was an old internet name I used before changing it to Bellapinkpen.

Anyways, cut to high school a few years later in 2019 and my dad tells me that some of his students at school (he’s a music teacher) told him that someone at Nick copied this song’s album cover.

Of course he goes, “What the H?” And looks it up. Low and behold he finds RBUK and tells me about it at dinner that night. We both thought, “What the H?” Because Felicity looks almost identical to the original meme and my drawing, the theme song is super close to Dad’s song too. It’s not by much, but it’s hard to deny someone at Nick didn’t see or hear any of these things and mishmashd them together. Because that original photoshopped cat, album art, and Dad’s song were the only threads that stuck out the most when searching Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty.

It’s actually very obvious when looking at these pictures close together. When you search Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty, this is what you get:

I told a few friends and my grandparents about this, because I was a bit upset that a big company decided to use something that the internet made, something that I was involved in, but didn’t do anything with it!

I completely forgot about it after ranting for a bit. The show got cancelled and things moved on. But the memory came back and I decided to look some episodes up, to see if they really copied the album.

I watched Alpha Jay’s video essay on the matter, saying it kinda copied Unikitty. I do think Unikitty had a part to play. Because it’s existence definitely was a push for the show to be made in the first place. But I don’t think the art came from that show.

Then I stumbled onto Vailsklbum’s video and he literally shows Dad’s album in his video as a possible source of inspiration for this show along with the meme. My mouth literally dropped.

I know this show is like, four years old. But I need to rant again.

I’ll break down what both Jay’s video and Vail’s video pointed out that everyone in my family and friends noticed when looking at Felicity’s design…

In any part of my ask I nowhere mentioned Jkk friendship is fake. And this assumption that since they are real friends company can't use them to set narratives is loose. Of course, they are close and behave naturally but so many of their interactions are for camera.

Everyone knows about PTD concert where Jungkook sat on Tae's lap, same concert he picked up Jimin bridal style. That was for cameras. Now does it mean Jungkook have a problem doing that with Jimin? No, other tkkrs may think that I don't, I understand he is an adult who can communicate. But I believe that is not their natural interaction in the sense they don't keep doing that behind the scenes. Jimin saw the cameras he wanted to do something for fans and Jungkook was game.

But that doesn't mean company hasn't given them instructions to play up for the camera. They are consistently cued to mention each other, tell cams how close they are, etc. Look I believe there is another type of intimacy among boys, they have seen each other in various states of undress, shared with each other countless stories, not always involving positivity and motivated talks. So anything they show might be natural but not organic, if you know what I mean. Take this jkk show for example, they are friends who is shooting a content. Now anything they do might be comfortable but doesn't mean it happens between them in natural settings frequently. They know they are shooting a content and they have to make it watchable like any other show.

Jkk can cuddle, tease, hug each other because that's what friends do but I just believe they don't always do that behind the scenes. There is nothing wrong with it but my observation of recent years (not company content) shows they don't do it. I just think company tells them to play up for their fans, as they are comfortable with each other, they do it as any fanservice done by friends but it nowhere is the portrayal of how they actually behave all the time. That's it. So it's not on Jkk but company how they mould them. And that narrative at this stage brings nothing but hate for members. So you telling me, company can't ask them to not be them won't change anything. I don't believe that. I think their natural interactions which are not hyped and cued by company would be more refreshing to watch where they don't have to constantly think 'oh there are cameras, we should do something.'

Our opinions differ in this. You think they behave on cameras as they behave behind the scenes. I believe because they are comfortable and company asks them to do it so they play it up a lot. Like Jungkook does for fans too, flirting with them. I repeat this again for any of your thickheaded anons or lurkers, fan service is not wrong, they are paid to do this, other members do it too, that is for fans enjoyment but that doesn't mean what they show on camera they ALWAYS indulge in these kind of activities.

It feels as though we are arguing, though I think we mostly agree? I’ve spoken on how I feel about fanservice and I basically agree. I think all members do it and I think it is part of their job.

I do think they are affectionate though. Not as overly as they are on stage probably, and I do suspect certain actions wouldn’t have happened had it not been for entertainment value. To me they are different from Tae and Jk who I do believe to be very affectionate and physically close in private also. It’s why the difference between Tkk and Jkk is clear to me. There is more natural distance between Jk and Jm than there is between Tae and Jk. I even think Tae and Jm are more likely to cuddle in private than Jm and Jk are.

I still don’t feel it’s completely false though. I think to me the way you describe it feels like it’s something that’s almost demanded of them by the company, which very easily can be understood as them doing it against their free will. I absolutely don’t think that’s the case and I think there is a freedom to what they do. You might not mean it this way and maybe it’s just my interpretation of your words.

I think Jm and Jk in private are very playful. I do think they embrace and I do think they are physically close when they banter. Do I think Jk goes and sit on Jm’s lap or the other way around? No not really and certainly bot on a regular basis.

Maybe your expectation of the travel show is different than mine? I don’t expect to see much aside from the occasional backhug and perhaps some cuddles? That wouldn’t be too weird or out of the ordinary to me though. I’d expect the same from Vmin.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

Narrator looks x way, Stanley's personality is Y. While we have seen some of Stanley's quirks in promotional videos and cutscenes, something I see people mistaking for his personality is the way you play the game. There is nothing wrong with making these your headcanons of making your Stanley a specific way - but I've seen people fight that the same way they fought specifically traits of Narrator's form. I haven't seen either in a while tbough so I hope it got better.

9. worst part of canon

That's a hard one. It depends how what you'd want to think the 'worst' implies. Maybe it's the Skip Button for the mental anguish Narrator and Stanley felt, maybe it's the fact warehouse is no longer accessible to explore. Or that, the game does end.

I like every ending - each one offers something different. Maybe if I was very nitpicky, I'd say I preferred if just like 3 times in a row Freedom changes, we would get some stuff like that elsewhere. But there, it serves the story. So I don't have an answer for this one tbh skshhs.

Hard one but maybe Narrator. People forget that he changes throughout the titles but he still tells Stanley to die when he holds the Bucket. This man is a very complex character thst contradicts himself a lot and I really prefer to myself think of that instead of making him an only uwu cute or just angsty self. Nothing wrong with those though - people can interpret him however they want. I just prefer to take the full package.

The ones I mentioned in 8 and 13. - that even if Narrator changes and grows, he still sometimes stays the same. He's a very complex character in my eyes and so is his relationship with Stanley and I feel we should explore it more. It's not just cute old yaoi couple, age difference that doesn't really exist, pure abuse or creator and creation - it's just so many things, and we should respect the original source material cus that's what brought us all together.
