Devlog 22

Another good week of game development.

Creating "pause" functionality was much harder than I thought it would be. Gamemaker Studio 2 has a helpful feature in its "Deactivate" functions, but those can only get you so far. That's what I spend most of my time this week working on.

There are two types of "pauses" in this game. The normal pause where you hit a button and bring up a menu. The other is a more temporary pause that the player can use to change which attack they're using. To work on that, I made two separate objects in Gamemaker to apply the different effects that I want. Sadly, they aren't quite finished yet, otherwise I'd love to show it off.

Here's what my menu code looks like if anyone is interested. Huge thanks to a Shaun Spalding tutorial I found online along with some other helpful posts. Just modified it so it would be tied to pressing and releasing a button rather than something that works like a switch.

Something I can show off is the finally-finished player UI. Above the health bar are the number of teleport charges the player has available, and inside the gold orb is the current attack that the player is using. (You'll see everything freeze in the video occasionally. That is me testing the pause functionality).

imagine you're getting married to kaiser and even though you're the bride, it's him that turns into an absolute bridezilla.

initially, you thought it'd just be a small event between you and him—just going down to city hall and be done with it—but when you had sleepily confessed to him one quiet night as he played with your fingers that maybe in another life, you'll get a traditional wedding, kaiser's determined to make sure you get what you want in this one.

and this guy kinda goes a bit bonkers. he's got everything planned in meticulous detail in this binder he carries around everywhere with all the information one could possibly need—vendor info, list of caterers, drafts of the schedule for d-day. at first, you think it's sweet, that he's going all the way for you and him. until he goes... a little too far.

he once grossly spat out his bite of a sample black forest cake right in front of the baker. "this is an insult to germany itself. never bake this again if you know what's best for you."

"i thought i asked for silk tablecloth with the chiffon runner?" he seethed at one caterer, grabbing the fabric and bunching it in his fist. "you thought you could fool me with this cheap-ass polyester?"

"i don't give a single shit if they're out of season," he cussed at one of the florists over the phone. "get me those tan hua flowers for my wedding or so god help me."

the list of caterers in his binder grows narrower and narrower—with some of their services slashed by kaiser due to "incompetence"(kaiser's words, not yours) or they flat-out refused to provide service to you due your fiance's temperament.

you tell him multiple times that this doesn't have to be a big event he has to stress over, that all you want is for you to tie the knot and to devote yourself to each other, but all kaiser does is kiss your forehead and tell you that he's got it covered.

"what kind of husband would i be if i didn't make my beloved's wishes come true, mein schatz?"

Starscream proceeds to go bich about his bros to Soundwave as he gets the reports from him instead lol (can't bich about Megs to sound smh)

Bit if background is that Megatron frags up Starscream's voicebox, making him sound real wack (bit like in TF1) (this post has the doodle for that), and this is right after that. He was rekt and blamed for a plan falling apart that wasn't souly his fault (typical lore lol), so he's already pissed off. Warp just thought he got banged up from said mission and the autobots, and very much doesn't know about how fragged Megs and Star's relationship is (just thinks star's only being dramatic). Thunder more suspects it was Megs and is concerned, but wants Star to talk about it (unsure of how to approach it)

Istg it'd be such a rant for me to go on about my flavor of these boiz. This has been a thing in my brain sm tho (if peeps wanna know some of said lore that's been rotating round here, you can send an ask- I have no idea how to bring it up otherwise lmao)

I present to you a stupid thought. For all of episode 1 we have been both shown and told that Edwin is NOT the people person in the Agency. However right away in episode 2 when they're summoned by The Cat King, Edwin steps forward and insists he do the speaking in order to handle this diplomatically. It feels strange because while Charles might not be subtle as Edwin says about Shelby later, he is better at talking to people and working with them generally.

My stupid headcanon is that Edwin heard the word "King" and knew his anti-monarchy bestie would be his absolute WORST SELF so he stepped in before Charles could get himself in trouble.

When Khanin was hurt in the last episode of The Next Prince, both he and Charan were wearing gray, but once they get back to the room in episode six, Khanin is back fully dressed in white and gold.

And he continues that into the next day.

But just because he is out of Charan's silver doesn't mean he is out of Charan's hair.

He is going to get his Black Brooder bodyguard to succumb to temptation and taste the forbidden fruit one way or another.

And this gorgeous shot with Charan reflected in the mirror BEHIND Khanin beautifully depicts what resides in Charan's heart. Even if Charan can't face it directly, he wants Khanin.

So the boys set off on a color-coded journey in search of a treasured pearl starting with pink.

We then move to white which is "the color of purity, sincerity, freedom, and loyalty."

And land on yellow "symbolizing good friendship and good health" which are two interesting color choices considering Khanin is the white and gold (yellow) coded character.

But we also get red in the form of Paytai's lace blindfold and although red can mean danger and aggression is also represents strong emotions and passion.

That sounds about right.

The day after receiving the yellow pearl from Charan because they are such good friends, Khanin is back in silver.

And he continues to look at Charan in such a friendly way.

Like he could eat him up!

But this golden boy asks his "friend" what exactly Wasin meant when he said that his family stands like the sun over the other families. Because none of these people speak directly, Charan believes Wasin meant that his family provides life to him; therefore, he was expressing his loyalty, but . . . I got the hint of oppression in his comment, so let's all hope Wasin isn't trying to overthrow anyone because I have a gay agenda.

Back to the target point — Heavenly Human Khanin wants his man and much like his archery skills, his aim is getting better with practice.

So it's time for another adventure, but this time with our Blue Boy Prince Calvin.

They are going to visit our future queen Pink Princess Ava.

And for some reason, this Blue Boy opts out of staying in the castle (perhaps because he just wants to appear like a normal guy so *someone* doesn't find out he is royalty?), but our Heavenly Human doesn't.

The other Light x Dark Duo are magically also visiting, so the whole royal squad decides to participate in a team building exercise by going clubbing together.

But first Ramil must look to Paytai to know if it's okay. With a simple nod, Paytai tells Ramil he's a very good boy who should go play nice with others, and I am thrilled to know that even though Paytai is Ramil's pet, Paytai is a cat and Ramil is his butler.

So now, in this club, we all fam.

And the Light x Dark Duo are about to put their kink out on public display.

But Chakri, who Khanin tried to not invite (because he is a crappy boss!!!!), is about to live out Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" the way that pink lighting is hitting him once that man offered him a drink. Go on and get it!

Because after Ramil decides BRAT summer begins when he says it begins, he meets his pet in the Tunnel of Love.

And decides to show Paytai just how much he loves him.

So we get another Usher banger in the form of his hit "Love in the Club"

Basically, Usher sponsored this episode because he knows the power a club plays in making the magic of love happen.

Because once it starts raining, Charan's trauma is triggered, and he finally allows himself the comfort he has desperately desired in the shape of Khanin's arm, who is wearing all black.

And with that warm embrace, Charan finally gives in to temptation he has been resisting for so long.

Some deltarune facts, and some speculation

Kris has been in a darkworld at least once before the start of the game. We know this because of the save point with their name on it

It probably wasn't the darkworld that the game starts in, because then it wouldn't be the case that Ralsei had never met anyone, ever

There is something about the bunker

the bunker is currently a darkworld

At some point in the past, kris ran away from the bunker, horrified

Kris doesn't want to go near it in the gameworld, either to keep something a secret or out of a genuine emotionally based desire to not be there

The Holiday siblings and the Dreemurr siblings used to explore the woods together

Raise your Bat seems a lot like a December song. Des gets name dropped in the leadup to it, and there are details that sound specific to her

It might just be a song she used to like. She might have written it herself. but there's some sort of connection

The chorus of raise your bat bears lyrical similarities to the ending song of chapter 1

"Don't forget" might also be Des song

Don't forget alludes very specifically to how the darkworld functions

All of this is to say I think Kris and December explored the bunker darkworld together and December didn't come back from it.
