Obviously, DnD characters are wish fulfillment and lots of people don’t want to address the slow senescence of the vulnerable human form in their fun games. That being said, narratively, I do think that levels should probably fluctuate over the course of a lifetime. The level twenty world-saver is going not going to stay level twenty into their old age—that’s not how athletes and retirement work! Wisdom and Charisma casters maybe, but your STR/CON/DEX builds are going to soften with age. They might still be the spryest bastards in the old people tai chi group, but “terrifyingly in shape 70 year old” is not the same as “deadliest man on the planet”. Drop those old folks a few levels, give them some creaky bones and presbyopia. It’s good for them, promise.

I got to watch a guy who did a famous brain dissection dissect a brain in my neuroscience class. I volunteered answers to many questions, including recognizing the substantia nigra, etc…

But I also forgot about the central sulcus. He was pointing to it and looking around the class going “anyone know what this is? anyone?” And we were all too anxious to think of it in the moment. I just stood there staring at him blankly.

I have to add, I love Hercules’ commentary on how vision works on a cognitive level. The description of cones versus rods is accurate: peripheral vision is better for detecting movement. It’s not too uncommon of a thing to rely on in competitive martial arts. The difference functions on a speed that it really is only meaningful for instinctive reactions—actions you’d take without thinking about them, as either a trained or a wild response.

But that’s what matters in these situations.

this show is crazy bc i watch this shit and get all swept up in this kings and queens narrative and get invested in who would be best on the throne or whatever but all the while i really hate the fucking monarchy. gwen is a queen in my heart no matter her actual monarch status it’s more of a symbolic thing to me so i’ll say this with my full chest, this whole monarchy business needs abolishing. but ah whatever… whichever political insights one could have are so so wasted on this show lol. for all the isolated compelling aspects bbcm has, in the end if you want to enjoy it as a whole and come out on the other end with both your sanity and intelligence intact you have no choice but to acknowledge it takes a fuckton cognitive dissonance. if you have an ounce of intellect you need to set it aside to enjoy this show. you need to delude yourself and adopt the monarchy mindset within the bounds of this fictional universe and then you can love these characters

persephone is a manifestation of what adam would be if he kept allowing himself to believe that he was separate from other people

there are two versions of the truth: nature is separate from humans. humans are nature.

both of these are equally true, depending on their perceptions.

adam is nature, and he had to decide whether that meant he was separate from the people around him or if it made him part of them.

persephone disconnected from this idea of the others and believed herself separate, therefore becoming nature entirely.

it is this perception that means persephone could never finish her phd. it is this perception that allows adam to accept equality among his friends.
