My concepts for the development progress of an Iterators Puppet
-my ideas below
-Feasibility Study
[1]: First autonomous control module, any instruction to be given must be done manually through physical means (the keys), outputs were shown through the screen. A very primitive system, however, did its job proving the greater machine concept was achievable. While it does look like a lens above the monitor, this was a simple status gauge for benchmarking.
-Prototyping and Development
[2]: Now with the capability to wirelessly and audibly communicate to receive instructions and inputs. The system was no longer directly integrated into the facility, and resided on the first instance of an iterator's arm. This was considered a feat due to the complications with isolating the control module from the rest of the iterators components, while keeping processing power. A permanent connection/umbilical was needed to sustain life and function though.
To “talk” back, they were crafted with multidimensional projectors, the mobile arm allowing the angles and variance for this projection. Only later into development were advanced speakers installed for optimized understanding, however the extra computing power required to synthesize proper speech was found to strain the contained module, so this function had rare use in the end.
[3]: At this point there was a change in perspective in the project. What once were machines to simply compute and simulate, were now planned to be the home, caregiver, and providers. The further the project came to fruition the more religious importance was placed upon these “random gods”. From this stance not only did the puppets have to manage and control their facilities, they had to communicate with the people and priests. To represent benevolent beings who will bring their end and salvation. In this process iterators began to take a more humanoid shape, to better reflect their parents. Development was focused on compacting the puppet closer to the size of an ancient for this purpose. This stage was the first to incorporate a cloak/clothing into their design considerations, to further akin themselves in looks. The cloak would hide the iterators' engineered bodies and give a body to their silhouette.
[4]: As bioengineering and mechanics were rapidly progressing due to the void fluid revolution, this allowed plenty of margin for developing the outer design of the iterator puppets. This prototype was the first to incorporate limbs for the purpose of body language. This was another step in the drive to give a body to their random gods.
-Final Iterations
[5]: First generation iterators had the final redesign of puppet bodies. Far different from their first designs, they are fully humanoid. Their bodies are shaped to be organic and as full of life as they could at the time. Their center of sapience has fully settled within their body, as can be seen as their unconscious use of limbs without the direct intention for communication. This can also see how they manage their work, where many of the functions (which can be done with just an internal request) are operated through physical gestures of their limbs. Their puppet chambers also allow for full comprehensive projection, where many of their working monitors are displayed. It is seen how iterators prefer to utilize their traversal arm to transfer between the current working projection window.
These designs were hardy and nearly self-sufficient, only requiring minimal power from their umbilical to charge. (However was still limited in the terms of internal power production, for this first generation extensive batteries sufficed)
[6]: Later generation not only incorporated advanced bioengineering internally, but externally. While still a hardened shell, their body plates have been incorporated into the organics of the puppet, maintaining the protective requirements while barely leaving a trace of hinges or plates. This “soft” skin had drawbacks, such as reduced durability to the first generations, this was offset by the greatly enhanced repair speeds and capability this type of skin allowed.
Internal power generation was implemented into these late generation models. If the case arose, the Puppet could be disconnected from their umbilical and still be conscious from an undefined period of time. (However this would limit the operating capacity of the puppet when running self sufficiently) This greatly eased maintenance works, as the Puppet could still run the greater facility wirelessly while work was done on the chamber, arm or whatever as needed.

It was tiring, being on set for more than half the day and putting herself out there; but it was worse because she was separated from you for so long and barely got time with you.
Jenna was having an off day on set. she kept messing up her lines or stumbling over her own words, or forgetting what to do at a certain point of time.
"And I wouldn't- wait, I would..?" Jenna muttered, her voice weak as she messed up her line. "Cut!" Tim said, frustrated. This was the 8th take of the same scene.
-
"I'm gone a day, the room gets trashed and Thing is nearly murdered-" Emma spoke in character, only to cut herself off, confusion shadowing her gaze as she looked at a zoned out Jenna. "Uhh... Jenna?" she muttered.
Fuck.
Jenna cursed herself beneath her breath, forgetting to do as she needed to because she zoned out. how stupid of her.
-
currently, Jenna was sitting at a table with the rest of the Wednesday cast, her mind wandering as she paid no mind to the presentation in front of her.
her leg bounced subconsciously whilst she pondered, humming quietly to herself. she missed you. it had been a long and stressful day already.
she missed your soft voice and how she could play with your hair, and how you'd smile when-
"Jenna!" a voice snapped her out of her thoughts. she glanced up, frowning in regret as she winced back slightly from Tim's voice.
he gave a small shake of his head before resuming his speech with the rest of the cast, his eyes roaming around.
Jenna gave a soft sigh, her shoulders drooping. She was tired, exhausted, even. her eyes were practically closed, her eyelids hooded as she gave a small huff.
Emma looked to her, giving a small, puzzled frown. "you okay?" she whispered, her eyes gleaming with genuine concern at Jenna's figure and her weary appearance.
Jenna looked at her with a slow shake of her head. "I wanna be home with y/n. i'm exhausted and it's already 8-" she started in a compacted whisper, looking at Tim hesitantly as to not be caught.
she felt like a kid in school trying not to get caught cheating.
Emma's face now plastered with remorse, took her phone out and checked the time. "we should be leaving soon.." she murmured back to Jenna with a hint of hope in her gaze, hoping it'd lift her spirits.
Jenna's eyes sparkled momentarily, but just as fast as it had come, it had gone. "hopefully." she muttered as Tim wrapped up his conversation.
"that's a wrap for the day. i'll see you guys tomorrow," Tim said as he turned to the projector, disconnecting his computer. Jenna all but leaped out of her chair, rushing to the door to leave.
Emma called out a bye to her, barely audible upon Jenna's ears as she turned and gave a quick wave before hurrying to her car. she fumbled with her keys for a moment before getting them to finally unlock her car, rushing into the driver's seat as she got her phone out.
"I missed you alllll day. I'm on my way home"
Jenna sent the quick, heartfelt message before setting her phone aside, buckling herself in as she drove back home after her draining day.
you hearted Jenna's message, but you didn't respond. you knew she was driving, so why answer and put your beautiful girlfriend at risk? you finished putting up the last of the dishes before folding a blanket nearby.
you settled into the couch, eagerly checking Jenna's location every other minute as you waited for her to be home at last. you turned to the TV with a small hum, your eyes fixated on the bright screen.
it took you a moment to register the click of the door, blinking as you processed it. you heard familiar keys on the other side and turned with a grin, hopping off the couch as you balled your hands into a fist just above your chest.
as the door opened, you saw your girlfriend for the first time that whole day. she had left super early in the morning before you woke up, claiming she 'didn't want to disturb your beauty sleep.'
you threw yourself onto her, hugging her tightly as you released all your pent up emotions into the hug. it took you a moment to realize that Jenna wasn't reciprocating as usual, and you took a step back.
you give her a weak, feeble smile before you take her bags from her hands, setting them on the carpet in the living room before turning back around to see her slumping into the couch. you crawled into the couch right beside her, leaving some respectable room between the two of you.
you took in her hooded eyes and her quiet demeanor, unlike her usual contrasted self. you felt a small squeeze in your chest of confusion, but only scooted closer to her with a curious gaze. "baby?" you murmured.
Jenna gave a long exhale, as if trying to recollect herself before she turned to you with an attempt of a smile. "hi, sweet girl." she whispered back softly, her eyes softened compared to the weary expression just moments ago.
you crawl up beside her, glancing up at her with a curious gaze as you took in her expression. you could read Jenna like a book, and you knew she wasn't upset with you. well, at least you hoped. she seemed upset as soon as she walked through the door, and you knew it was probably from work.
"you seem tired," you commentated quietly as you tilt your head a bit to get a better glance at her face. she turned to you with a tiny chuckle, her dimples evident. "is it that obvious?" she says as she moves her fingers to rub her eyes.
you nodded with a wince, humming thoughtfully as you wondered for a moment. "what's wrong?" you asked as you take the folded blanket from earlier and drape it over the two of you.
she gives a small huff of annoyance, and you give a frown of apology for asking. she notices, shaking her head at your attempted apology. "nono, i'm not... frustrated with you. I just had an exhausting day on set." she started with a small pinch at the bridge of her nose.
you move her hand away, intertwining it with yours as you kept your gaze steady on her to show her that you were listening to her. Jenna gave a toothy smile of gratitude before moving her gaze down to her shoes, no words leaving her lips.
you squeeze her hand in a way of acknowledgment and knowing, trying to tell her that you were there to comfort her and listen to whatever was bothering her. "what was so bad about it?" you inquired, hoping to get an answer from her and get some tension released from her shoulders.
"I just kept stumbling over my own words and I kept forgetting to focus when cameras were rolling. it's like I couldn't focus, today! I don't even know why." she frowned, her body heavily strained. you give her a small hum of concentration to her words, encouraging her to go on.
"and it just felt like it wasn't... me. i don't usually mess up, I recover. but it's like I couldn't today. like, I was missing something." she sighed. "or... someone." she said with a suggestive glare to you before moving her glare up to the plain ceiling. you nod in understanding. "you missed me?" you asked.
"of course I did, I barely got to see you today. or any day, I don't get to spend much time with you anymore because of work and I know that it's frustrating but it's especially unfair to you and I don't want you to think I love you any less because-"
you listened to her ramble of every little thing that stormed her thoughts, letting her get her words out. when you noticed how her breathing seemed to become more staggered and her jaw tensed, you leaned in and captured her lips in a quick yet affectionate kiss.
Jenna looked at you with a puzzled gaze, her eyes full of confusion as she glanced at you. "you were rambling and getting overstimulated, by the looks of it." you told her with a small smile before kissing her hand once.
she gave you a grateful look, her eyes softening. she knew that you could read her like an open page, words written out for you to read and everything. she'd never purposely try to conceal her feelings from you, she never had to. you just... knew. better than she did, sometimes, which was impressive - to admit.
"I just missed you. all day. and it was a bad day on set and I just... wanted to be home with you." she said in one final breath, her gaze soft as she seemed to sink into the couch cushion.
you crawl closer to her, your knee stirring against hers momentarily. "well, you're home now, baby." you breathe out softly as you take in her appearance. you rub some smeared mascara from beneath her eyelid, kissing her cheek once.
"and I missed you, too. I was waiting for you to come home!" you say, trying to match emotion-wise. she gave a grin at your words, chuckling softly at you before opening her arms. you buried yourself into her with a hum.
"you should shower and then come lay down." you say, commentating on the faint smell of sweat lingering on her body that you over exaggerated with a scrunch of your nose and a dramatic cough. "no offense," you say.
Jenna laughed. "none taken. I do kinda smell." she says before shifting to sit up, giving you one more kiss before getting up and offering her hand to help you. you smiled before taking it, now standing beside her.
"shower, then we can cuddle." you say in a soft tone, your eyes slightly narrowing in admiration. you adored Jenna, after all. the hard work she put in consistently had to be draining, and you knew that she loved you. she just had a lot on her plate and you respected that.Jenna nodded, turning to the bathroom to take a shower.
with the bedroom empty, you took the opportunity to scroll onto Netflix and look at some movies, browsing your options. of course, you wouldn't choose one until Jenna returned, but it was nice to see what options they had.
you flipped onto your tummy, grabbing the neatly folded heavy blanket at the edge of the bed before you stand, dressing the bed with the familiar cover before you get up and walk to the kitchen.
you figured Jenna didn't have a big dinner, she never really did when she was stressed. you cut up some kiwis and strawberries, slipping some popcorn on the side. yeah, it wasn't the healthiest, but Jenna enjoyed it and you knew that.
you went back into the room, placing the bowl of food on the nearby night shelf before you scramble beneath the blanket to find a comfortable spot. you shuffled around for a moment longer before you hear the shower turn off, the water coming to a stop.
you lift your head, waiting quietly in the familiar dim light of the shared bedroom as you say against the headrest. Jenna came out with a towel wrapped around her. you toss her a sweatshirt of yours before turning, giving her privacy to change.
Jenna gave herself a small smile once changed, humming to let you know that she was done before she crawled beside you into the shared bed. "do I smell better?" she joked with a light poke at your side, evoking a giggle from you.
you turned, grabbing the remote as you pointed to the TV. "I figured we could wind down and watch a movie...? I cut you up some kiwis and got you some popcorn, too." you offer as you grabbed the bowl of arranged goods, handing it to her.
her eyes softened with admiration as she realized how hungry she was. "it's like you know me better than myself." she said as her stomach growled in agreement before she shifted to sit against the bedrest and glanced at the TV.
"anything specific?" you asked, to which she hummed. "no, you can choose." she said in a soft breath as she turned to nuzzle into the side of your neck. you clicked on a random Marvel movie, the intro playing in the room.
you bask in the moment you had in hand. Jenna curled up beside you, cleaner and a lot better smelling than previously, and a movie playing. you took in a soft breath, breathing in contentment before you lower yourself a bit.
whilst the movie played, you thought Jenna had fallen asleep. she almost did, but she had one more thing to say before doing so. you heard the faint yet familiar mumble of her words that you loved oh so much.
"I love you."
it was a faint mumble against your neck, her breath tickling your skin before you turn to glance at her sleepy expression. you place a kiss on her head as you spoke back to her in a soft voice.
"I love you." you reciprocated.

Your First Day - Mr Ring-A-Ding x Reader Part 1
[Here we goooo! Hope you guys don't mind a little spooky start. Hehe. Just want to say, this will also be posted (like my other fic and all the stuff I've been writing from your requests) on ao3 under the user Unassuming_Mouse, so if you want to check it out there and read through the other stuff I've written on a more compact space then feel free to do so! Anyway, hope you enjoy!]
Your ever-annoying alarm wakes you up. With a tired groan, you whack the top of it, unintentionally knocking it off the nightstand and onto the floor. At least it's stopped beeping.
After a small breakfast, a quick shower, brushing your teeth and getting dressed, you leave your house and set off to work. It's your first day and you want to get there at least on time. The morning Miami air is cool against your face, helping you wake up completely as you walk to the cinema. Palazzo is currently closed to the public, with work still being done on the building, but the interior and everything within needs maintenance, which is what you've been hired for. A caretaker of a quaint little picture house, look at you go.
Of course, you've heard all the talk about the place. 15 people going missing, only to suddenly appear after 3 months. The previous caretaker dying in the mysterious explosion that happened on the same day the missing people came back. Something resembling a cartoon character floating out of Palazzo. You don't let it get to you, it's probably just rumors made up to explain the work being done on the building.
It doesn't take you long to get there, your boss -The owner of the cinema- is standing outside on his phone. There's still scaffolding around the building, with people already up there. At your footsteps your boss looks up, smiling and putting his phone away when he sees it's you. “Ah, you're here early.” You give a bashful smile in return. Of course you got up earlier than necessary to get here. There's a part of you that's ecstatic about looking after the interior, making it look all fancy and new for when it reopens. Plus, there's all the machines and film reels to take a peek at. Who could blame you for wanting to get here first thing?
“Well, you said there's extra theatres being added. I wanted to, you know, get started right away with what's currently inside so I don't get a pile-up of maintenance that needs doing.” It's not a complete lie, you know there's already a lot that needs doing. Getting ahead never hurt anyone.
Your boss’s smile grows at your enthusiasm. “Yes, things are moving along quite quickly. It'd be good to clear up any urgent maintenance now before the new projectors and whatnot gets installed. Just hope you'll get more done than the last few before you run out screaming.” You stare at him as he chuckles.
“Why would I do that?”
His smile becomes sharper, like a kid that's about to tell some ghost story around a campfire. “I hired, well, three other caretakers before you took interest in the job. All of ‘em claimed that there's something in there. Moving stuff around, footsteps coming from empty rooms, lights and other things turning on by themselves. Seem to think that the guy who died in the explosion is haunting the place. None of ‘em lasted a month before they quit.”
Holy shit, there was some truth to those rumors. Now you're going to be playing caretaker in a haunted picture house. Fantastic. Forcing down the shivers that threatened to run up your spine at the thought of some ghost roaming the theatres, you give a hopeful smile to your boss. “Well, maybe he'll like me more!” You share a laugh as he pats you on the shoulder.
“Let's hope so. Oh, and avoid the first theatre -its projector room in particular-, if you could. They're still doing work on the roof, that's where the explosion blasted through. I don't know how stable the ceiling is, wouldn't want you getting hurt.” You nod, then he gives a wave before getting into his car and driving away. Well, haunted cinema, let's see what you have in store.
The inside is what you'd expect. Most of it looks untouched, still the same from when the place was first built. It's a little tacky, but nostalgic at the same time. Could definitely do with some cleaning. You walk down the hallway, checking your phone for the list of tasks you were sent. Huh.. it's taking a while for things to load. Surely the service can't be that bad in here. No matter, it's on the screen now-
-Hi there!-
That.. wasn't there, at the top of the list, when you checked earlier this morning. It stops you in your tracks, turns your blood cold. Your eyes dart around you, breaths picking up. No, no, don't let something like this get to you. It's probably just your boss trying to spook you. This and that story about the previous caretakers, it's just him teasing the new employee, it has to be! With a deep, calming breath, you carry on your way, ignoring the feeling of eyes drilling into the back of your head.
At the moment, the only “urgent” things were bust lightbulbs and other minor repairs. Things you could handle yourself without needing to get in an actual technician. God help you if any of the complicated machinery breaks. After a needed stretch, you remember that there’s food and refreshments in the diner connected to the building. It was a recent installment, something to keep customers in, but your boss said that you were free to grab a snack or drink if you needed it. No one but employees and construction workers would be using it up for a while. You've just gotten to the start of the hallway when the sound of a door slamming has you swiftly turning around. The fear from earlier surges back, you struggle but manage to force it down. It was probably just the workers banging about outside. There's no one but you in here.
The lights of the kitchen are already on when you get there. Ignoring that fact for your own sanity, you get a drink out of the fridge and take a generous sip before putting it on the counter while you check your list. As soon as that page opens you let out a yelp, your phone falling out of your hand. The text at the top of the list has been replaced.
-Good job!-
What the hell is going on?! No, wait, maybe it's just your boss sending a random message of encouragement. Yeah, it's weird that he's communicating on the list of tasks he sent you, but that has to be what this is. Right? Pick up your phone, butter fingers. Just out of curiosity, you check when the page had been edited. 1:24. The exact time you'd stopped to take a break. You know that because you'd checked the time before you came here. That's either a spooky coincidence.. or..
You look up from the list, just in time to watch a blur of something small and blue duck behind the door. What in the everliving fuck was that?! Nothing! It was nothing! Stop working yourself up. There's no ghost, the only thing in this building is you. And by the whistling getting closer, also a construction worker. Thankfully it is, the guy gives a polite wave before he grabs a couple drinks out of the fridge. He opens one and takes a sip. “You the new caretaker then?” You just nod, nursing your own drink, which he returns with one of his own. “The lights by the front door were flickering when I came in. Dunno if they just don' like me or if they're actually faulty.” You look to the side with furrowed eyebrows while he chuckles. They hadn't been flickering at all when you passed by them earlier, both times in fact.
“I'll have a look at them.” Maybe the bulbs were starting to go. Something he'd said catches your attention. “Do the lights usually pick and choose who they like?” Just saying that puts a smile on your face. What a ridiculous question.
Still, he just chuckles again before answering. “Seems like the whole building does. The last caretakers before you, well, one of them was a bit of a jackass to be honest. Don't know how he wasn't fired on his first day. Not even a week had passed, that guy came sprinting out the front door like the devil himself was chasing ‘im. And I can't lie, always feels like there's eyes on me in here. Something's just.. not right.” Well.. that's reassuring! “Just don't tell your boss I said that. We've been trying to act all stoic about it, but.. yeah, something's off about this place.”
“Have you or the other workers ever.. seen anything?”
“Oh, we don't hang around in here long enough for that!” With his drink empty, he crushes the can in one hand before chucking it into the nearby bin. “Speaking of, I should get these to the guys. Nice meetin’ you.” He gives you a wave before walking out with the other drinks in his hand. Now you're alone in here again. In a building that's chased multiple people out and unnerves even more. Great. Just great! After finishing your drink and scoffing a protein bar down to keep your hunger at bay, you walk to the entrance to take a look at these supposedly flickering lights.
They're perfectly fine. Nothing seems wrong with the bulbs, they're bright as can be, consistently bright too. Maybe this cinema does have favourites. But.. why don't they flicker for you? You stare up at them as you ponder the strange stories you've heard today, along with your own experiences. The more things that happen, the less your theory of all this being one elaborate prank makes sense. That construction worker seemed fairly genuine, and he hadn't wasted much time leaving after your conversation. And those messages on the list, surely they couldn't have been from your boss. But only you and him have access to it, who else could -or would- put stuff on there? And so directed at you? Whoever it was either has impeccable timing or they can see you too, evident by that second message. Was someone.. watching you?
The jingle of your phone ringing makes you jump. It's your boss. “Hey! Just wanted to check in, see how you're doing in there.” Huh.. so phone calls came through fine, but a shared doc takes a good minute to load?
“I'm doing good, got just about all of the urgent jobs done.”
“Well I know that, you sent me that message!”
A cold, sharp stake drives into your heart. “I.. never sent you a message.”
“What?” You can just hear him over the blood pumping in your ears. “But.. I got a message from you like, 10 minutes ago. It says all the stuff you've done.”
Fear has you backing up towards the door. “No, no that wasn't me. I've only been using my phone to check the list you sent me.”
There's silence on the other end for a few seconds. “I.. um, w-well that's.. odd.” Yeah no shit. “Uh, if you've done all of that then I don't see any reason for you to hang around in there. Sounds like it's spooked you plenty for one day.” You're instantly out the door, not daring to take a look behind you. “Tomorrow I’d like for you to test some of the projectors currently in the building. We have plenty of new film reels after the explosion destroyed basically all we had in stock, but since then no one's gotten around to taking a look at the actual machines. Anyway, good work today. See you tomorrow morning!” The call ends with a beep, but you're too busy speed walking away to move it from your ear.
Back in Palazzo, a little figure watches you leave from the window, his little antennae drooping as you walk out of his eyesight.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rubbing your temples gently in a circular motion with your fingers, you stare at your lecturer blankly, hearing his voice drone on and on about the upcoming midterm assignment.
"This is very important, it consists of 60% of your total marks within this whole year." He says as you cup a hand over your right cheek, your eyes lazily drifting about the classroom as his words continue to act as background noise.
Perhaps I should be listening to this. After all, it's something I would be graded for. You thought silently as you attempted to seem more attentive, bringing your drooping shoulders upright, straightening up slightly, no longer slumping against your chair.
"This is no easy task I have to admit. But I think that a challenge is what really sets y'all apart from the average and the top."
He continues as your eyes followed the transition to the next slide on his PowerPoint presentation. And there the assignment details are written onto the slide, cramped across the centre of the slide.
Compact Loft Apartments. The screen reads and instantly almost everyone in the room sounds out a collective groan.
With the rise of minimalistic apartments hosting singles, tiny apartments which can barely fit a bathroom and bedroom in neat separate spaces have been trending. More people have turned to be fascinated about the idea of how people work out such tiny spaces in day to day living. Which might also explain why Little John's videos on how to expand small spaces with galvanized square steel has been going viral as well.
And of course, your course module teacher is not an exception. In fact, he is so obsessed with the idea of minimalism that he watches YouTube videos on people exploring Tiny Japanese Apartments. Often fascinated by the different possible designs brought about, he has showed you all various videos on them as well as part of his "teaching".
The idea is quite bizzare for you to comprehend. Tiny apartments could barely host spaces for toilet bowls and showers to be installed in private corners. For instance, you remembered watching on the Japanese man who spent most of his day doing everything in his bathtub from one of those videos shared by her module teacher. If anything, you found living in a tiny apartment almost unfeasible, even for a single person.
"However, I am sure most of you are very familiarised with the concept of tiny loft apartments, hence I will not explain further. That's all for today's lesson, guys."
The teacher's voice snaps you out of your thoughts as you gaze at the screen once again, which has now exited the PowerPoint slideshow. Students are already gathering into groups and discussing about the assignment while packing up.
You heaved a small sigh, your hands scrambling to pack up your items, shoving them into your tote bag hastily. You're thinking about grabbing a ready-to-eat chicken breast from the campus' grocers for a quick bite while you start brain storming for the assignment, when you suddenly feel a vibration coming from your phone.
Who could it be? You wonder silently as you take it out of your pocket, pausing your pack up to check the notifications.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After navigating your route to the yakinku place Bokuto suggested grabbing lunch at, you set down your phone on the table and sit yourself down back into your seat for a bit.
Making mental notes in your head, you stare at the blank projector screen mindlessly for a moment.
The assignment slideshow that was there before had long disappeared, yet the title words ‘Compact Loft Apartments’ still seemed to be there haunting you.
Guess my lunch plans will need a bit of change then. Hopefully I will have time later to brainstorm for the assignment.
As much as you hated the thought of disrupting your brief plans that you made earlier to work on your assignments, you couldn't bear to turn down Bokuto.
Especially not when you have had the feeling of eating lunch all alone without your roommates before… It's a terrible and lonely feeling.
And it would be even more terrible for Bokuto. You think silently to yourself before finally picking yourself back up from your seat and walking out of the classroom.
It's hard to not think about anything else other than the assignment on your way there.
For the first time, you don't feel like pretending the lines on the floor are lava and you can't step on them.
For the first time, you're not admiring the falling tree leaves when the wind blows.
For the first time, you don't stop at a newly bloomed flower and hesitate about whether to take a picture of it.
And for the first time, you nearly miss the front door of a food place, walking past the doorstep just by three steps only to realise you've reached.
Which is weird because you never miss a step when it comes to finding the place you're gonna eat at. Especially when food is almost everything to you.
“Yn!" You hear Bokuto's voice call out to you as you swing open the door to the Yakiniku place.
It doesn't take more than a second to locate where Bokuto is sitted, because there he is waving enthusiastically at you behind the grill, which already has a platter or more pieces of meat lying on it.
You try to form a small smile on your face when you meet Bokuto's, which grins back at you so brightly, that it could compete with the afternoon's sun in terms of which would give off more energy and stand a 50℅ of winning.
“Hey, sorry did you wait long?”You ask finally after settling down on the seat opposite him, which he responds back immediately with a shake of the head.
“Nope! Not at all!”He says while moving his tongs to grab the pieces of meat off the grill, placing them onto your plate.
“These are for you by the way!" Bokuto says gleefully while doing so, making your eyes gaze back and forth, from the look on his face to the slices of grilled meat he places on your plate.
For the next hour or so, you don't remember exactly what happened. Even what you even placed into your own mouth. All you can remember is Bokuto grilling all the meat for you and serving them onto your plate, while your head juggling between reality and the assignment.
And you can't help but hate how distracted you were. You wished you could have solely focused on conversing with Bokuto earlier.

✎ fyi!
The video I mentioned in the post is this one (and I actually love watching them cos i genuinely find them interesting)
Bokuto genuinely worried his head off that he got too annoying for yn to handle when she didnt use emojis (so when she used two crying face emojis in 'you noticed' he was instantly relieved)
He was still very cheery to yn tho (because he felt that yn was feeling down & wanted to cheer her up)
He considered going to the guys group chat and crying a bit about how awkward the yakiniku lunch was (but decided afterwards to man up because they were all busy with projects/assignments & he shouldnt disturb them)
The yakiniku lunch was actually really awkward; I would cry if I was there (half the time yn gave dry responses and dazed out in her surroundings (because she was stressed)
Brainstorming for projects/assignments are no joke; it gets really tiring especially when your mind starts blanking but you need more ideas (I hate it so much)

a compact mirror
found in erie's old apartment under the floorboards, it's lumen technology from many years ago. a nondescript bronze compact holding a perfectly ordinary mirror to any other hands. once held by a rover, the mirror begins to glow with soft green light. when active, it converts from mirror to holographic projector with useful apps to help rovers navigate lumen. the ticket to the lumen train is hidden in its interface, if a rover has enough patience to find it.
a commonplace journal
a golden campus notebook with intricate designs on the front and back. written in its pages are the dreams of rovers, past and future, along with erie's musings about lumen. when the journal is full, a new one in a new color takes its place and it finds its home in the shelves of the library, ready for any new rover to learn the secrets of the past. erie's entries don't make much sense; they're not linear, not dated, but the taped in candy wrappers and scraps of receipts make the notebook thicker than one would expect.
lettuce
a green rabbit stuffed animal; erie's most prized possession. you'll seldom see them without it close by, either nestled in their crossbody bag or sitting on the nearest table. lettuce has heard every fear and dream erie's ever had, but they're a good secret-keeper. anywhere lettuce goes, they make everybody around them relax, just a little, remembering their own childhood stuffed animals with a nostalgic smile.

EP82 Toyota STARLET
[NEW model introduction]
With 3-part mesh grill
Evolving into "Super Spicy GT"!
Announced and released on May 9th
text: Yasuyuki Morino
There's a saying that seeing is believing, and the shock of the new Starlet GT's mask is certainly indicative of this.
Its appearance, consisting of four round projector lamps and a three-part mesh grille, is so striking that it could pass for a new compact car from BMW.
It would not be surprising if the moment you open this page you exclaim, "Wow, so this is a starlet!" or "Seriously? This is a minor!" and receive cold looks from those around you.
The previous GT was sporty enough, with a special grille and bumper, bonnet power bulge, and roof spoiler as standard equipment, but the new model's impact is on a whole different level.
For that reason alone, expectations are high for the evolution of the internals as well. However, the performance of the 1.3-liter high-mechanical twin-cam turbo remains unchanged at 135 horsepower/16.0 kgm (125 horsepower/15.50 kgm in L0 mode), and there are no changes to the chassis specifications.
You might be disappointed and think, "Oh, no!"
However, since the weight of the car remains the same at 860kg (MT), the power and torque weight ratio is 6.37kg/ps & 53.8kg/kgm. This is a figure that surpasses its big brother, the Corolla FX-GT, and rivals the Civic 3-door SiR-II (6.18kg/ps & 65.6kg/kgm), so there is no room for complaint. The chassis is also the same as the previous minor
55 tires are standard, and LSD and triangle performance rods are available as options. It's a suspension that can stand up to turbo power, so there's no problem. In other words, the looks have finally caught up with the extreme contents, making it a truly "super hot hatchback." For those who value cool over speed, here is the inside and outside of the GT.
The Gi version, which combines the same equipment and a naturally aspirated engine, is also available as before.
We won't allow March to run away with the lead!!
The normal type, centered on the Soleil, also had its headlights and grille redesigned at the same time, giving it a cuter look. This has made it possible to distinguish between the sports and normal types of characters.
The design of the car has become clearer, but to be honest, I was surprised at how much they made in a minor change after four years. They even changed the tailgate brace to achieve a cleaner rear view, so the cost was not cheap.
Having come this far, it is unlikely that the next-generation model will be released within a year or so. It can be thought of as a measure to extend the life of the model for another two years.
For that reason, the new model also appeals in terms of color, with four new body colors and new seat and trim materials being adopted. Improvements have also been made to some of the mechanisms, such as improved performance on low-mu roads for the 4WD and improved vibration resistance for the diesel engine.
Furthermore, the lineup and equipment have been strengthened with the introduction of the Soleil Extra Package and S Sports Selection, and air conditioning has been made standard on the Gi, S, etc. (however, the canvas top has been discontinued).
Moreover, the boasted low price remains unchanged. The Soleil Extra Package is priced at 974,000 yen (3-door AT), which is about 50,000 yen cheaper than the 1-liter March i Z-F with almost the same equipment!
PIC CAPTIONS
●The 4 round headlights and 3-part mesh grille create a GT look reminiscent of BMW compact cars.

>> HI I JUST FOUND YOUR BLOG
>> REALLY OLD TECH & ENGINEERING 🤝
>> Need to get in touch with more engineers on here. Making things/making things blow up with friends is one of the most fun things in existence I think
>> Anyways here's my pride and joy, the ISV Winterhalter. Installed that short-cycle lance myself
[Winterhalter outside.omif]
IMAGE ID: A small salvage ship that looks mostly like a box, with a gun half its size and three quarters its length bolted to the top
>> What're some of your projects? Love hearing about what other people have made :)
>> [Pyroclast]
>>HELLO!!!! Oh it’s really nice to meet someone who likes old tech, I LOVE working on older freighters they’re so much more clunky and tactile than ones these days, those things are ALIVE they’re like some sort of beasts to me.
>>Ohhh the Winterhalter looks SO good!!! What kinda considerations did you make for the recoil on that lance? Can the engines produce enough power to counter the force that would push the ship backwards? Hell, if I made something like that I just know I’d send myself careening off into space.
>>I’m actually between projects right now!! I just finished up putting a ship-scale Basilisk on a transport ship which was SUCH a fun project. It was so unstable and I had to figure out how to route enough power into it to get the most efficient pulse without completely fucking up the projected speed of the ship. I ended up having to take some limiters off the engine which shouldn’t be a problem at all unless they try to run like a million things at once including the Blinkspace generator and Basilisk.
>>I have been thinking about some little projects, though! I’m gonna build a portable printer into my new prosthetic arm so I can have repair materials on the fly AND I’m gonna put a compact projector in my prosthetic eye just for fun.
>>Oh oh oh! Now that you’re here I should grab you something outta my workshop! I heard you kinda blew up a Perpetual Motion Drive you needed, I think I got, hold on…
[Crashing, clattering, and comical banging noises]
>>HERE WE GO!!! It’s not really a PMD, it’s not even IPS-N, but it does basically the same thing!! It’s paracausal, I think, and WAY more unstable than anything IPS-N makes but it’s functionally the same thing. Don’t look inside it, though. If it hurts my brain it’ll melt yours.

David Longstreth — Song of the Earth (Nonesuch/New Amsterdam)
Tumblr media
youtube
When is something a band album and when is it a “solo album?” For Song of the Earth, David Longstreth receives top billing but is joined by his usual outfit Dirty Projectors as part of a significant group of collaborators: s t a r g a z e, André de Ridder, Phil Elverum, Steve Lacy, Patrick Shiroishi, Anastasia Coope, Tim Bernardes, Ayoni, and Portraits of Tracy. Musical and textual reference points are similarly far flung, encompassing the composers Gustav Mahler and Olivier Messiaen and journalist David Wallace-Wells’ writings.
The title of Mahler’s late work Das Lied von die Erde (“The Song of the Earth”) is a clear nod to late romanticism. Longstreth’s songs are more compact than most Mahler. “Bank On,” the longest on the album, a mini-epic six minutes, with many others clocking in around the two and three minutes mark. There are also minute-long miniatures, such as “Same River Twice” and “Appetite,”  that have time to create an ambience before quickly departing. Romanticism presents as a surface element among a number of disparate musical layers.
Dirty Projectors has long reveled in the jubilantly po-mo, abetted by recording technology to mix mercurial shifts of manner. On previous outings, the quality of Longstreth’s songwriting has sometimes been subsumed by the jump cut quality of its presentation. He doesn’t dispose of this practice on Song of the Earth, but the plethora of classical instruments at his disposal are often deployed in arrangements with a deliberate sense of solidity. “Gimme Earth” combines orchestra, rock instruments, and puckish singing. A folksy verse is contrasted by a prog chorus, interludes filled with upward string arpeggiated flourishes, and a portentous brass fanfare as its climax. The overlapped vocals on “More Mania,” which might have engendered hazier production on a Dirty Projectors release, here are given minimal seasoning, the better to blend with stargaze.
Although Song of the Earth is called a “song cycle,” is this entirely accurate? The term song cycle often implies consolidation, one composer’s group of settings by a single poet. Song of the Earth is instead a work of assemblage, juxtaposition and accrual. If adopting the designation helps Longstreth to write such compelling music, long live the “song cycle.”
