Hi, Juniper here! This is my mental health sideblog to @deadrobot-juniper . While not a kink blog, I would still consider its future contents to be NSFW, and with that being said, minors DNI!!!

I will be posting vents and frustrations with my mental health, but also positive moments and supportive stories where applicable. We’re all in this together.

Answering your questions about the Wasp Photoshoot!

@uncontrollablesphere wants to know how the wasp is doing:

These are photos of live bugs! and either released after or collected legally for zoo/museum collections. I did not pose them, just placed them on the branch and let them move as they wished.

This wasp /was/ first cooled by briefly floating her vial in a cup of cold water. (She warmed up soon and was fine, but) I almost never do this and don't particularly enjoy it.

In this case, another entomologist had collected the wasp for their institution, and asked for a photo before taking the wasp with them. She was in a vial with air holes (which was then inside my pack) til we got back to the field station. Then that vial was floating on top of the cold water for ~3 minutes. From there she was released onto the set.

@pixieokapi asks.. why bathroom?

The reason I'm in a bathroom is in case they start flying away! There's an aerial bug net offscreen, so we can recapture the wasps once they don't care to be on camera anymore.

All the bathrooms in this field station are accessible single-stall rooms. We wrapped up the shoot when someone actually needed to use it!

The mess of gooseneck cables and foil is indeed my lighting setup. It is a Laowa/Kuangren Twin-flash, with DIY diffusers over each flash head. The diffusers are a foil-lined plastic container, with the flash aimed /backwards/ into the cup (away from the bug), and the lid replaced with a piece of Roscolux diffusing paper (I /think/ its the "Tough White" version, but I cant find the original order to confirm). The light bounces off the foil back out towards the bug, and gets smoothed again by the Roscolux. I got the general idea from this YT video.

If all that makes macro photography sound expensive or too much work, please be assured that you can get similarly good photos with just a $60-70 speedlight flash (or even your on-camera flash) + $9 diffuser. And you can even get pretty sweet photos with just your phone and whatever magnifier you have lying around!! Out of curiosity do you consider Harper Row a bat kid or extended bat fam? Just wondering for future reference, I missed like this entire batgalpals month and want to make it up over the new little while.

It’s funny bc it all depends on perspective right?

Some people in the fandom consider Harper a Main Forgotten Batkid (in the same sense that Duke is sometimes forgotten bc he’s also So New). The difference between Harper and Duke however, is that Duke was officially adopted by Bruce. Harper emancipated herself from her father and took custody of/provided for her younger brother. She’s independent of Bruce.

for this reason, I think she’s more of an auxiliary batfam member the same way Steph is. She’s not Bruce’s Kid per se, but she can still be considered part of the family since she’s often p close/familiar with them. Personally? I like to try to include her in my canon and as part of the main family as much as possible, but if I had to pick a member to remember more often? Duke is gonna win out.

(that being said, the weekend theme days are Very Specific to those respective pairs, but there’s plenty of General Themes for all Batkid/Rae Pairs so go wild friend! :D better late than never!)

Little late but uhhhhhhh Coco + Bashful?

The first time Coco meets Velvet is before they’ve been formally introduced. Coco’s out , pacing the paths that wind around all the accommodation blocks, trying to map her way by memory alone when someone shouts ‘board!’ and the next thing she knows, she leaps back to avoid the chipped edge of a skateboard that was exactly where her shoulders had been. When she looks over, there’s only one Faunus there, with tall hare ears and apologies on her lips as they runs over.

“Oh, yeesh, I’m sorry. That- that trick didn’t go as planned. Are you okay?”

“I’m okay,” Coco says. And then, because she’s a dumbass, “would have been a good assassination attempt, though.”

The Faunus tilts her head, because it’s a weird non-sequitur and because Coco keeps forgetting she can’t make her usual jokes around here. This isn’t Atlas. These people don’t know her. “I’m Coco Adel. And you are...?”

But the way the Faunus’s faces shifts, ever so slightly, makes Coco realise with a hot flush that may have been a mistake to air.

“Actually, gimme my board back. My aim was a bit off.”

I like to HC that the Zatara's have like, a favourite shitty party magic trick that's just super simple sleight of hand but they do it with actual magic anyways and no one believes it?
