arcane characters dnd classes
because im bored and hyperfixating
Vi: Monk. Pit Fighter Vi is Way of the Drunken Master. Drunken Master monks fight hand-to-hand 'mimicking the style of a drunkard'. Technically you don't have to be drunk to be a Drunken Master monk so maybe she still uses those techniques while sobered up later. I think she starts out as a Way of the Open Hand monk, which is just a monk that is Very Good at Punching. The gauntlets are a magical item.
Jinx: Artillerist Artificer. Very straightforward. Makes bombs and cannons. Can use magic (referring to her use of hextech as bombs)
Ekko: Scout Rogue/Chronurgy Wizard multiclass. Scout rogues are very mobile so I think it fits him. Later on he takes two levels in Chronurgy Wizard, which gives him chronal shift. This lets him rewind time briefly to change the outcome of an action - fits pretty well, I think. He only needs two levels wizard to mimic his rewind ability and that multiclass makes him fast.
Viktor*: Transmutation Wizard. In the DnD world, both Viktor and Jayce (and Ekko!) would be wizards because they can just study magic instead of trying to harness it via technology. At level 14 the Transmutation Wizard can use their 'Transmuter's Stone' to create a panacea - a cure to all ills (plus restore youth and raise the dead. sounds familiar). Luckily, I think Transmutation Wizard fits Arcane-Viktor as well (especially once he creates the hexcore, which could be his Transmuter's Stone).
Commune Viktor is an NPC with a three-phase boss fight. The first phase is so simple you know there are other phases. I'd probably add in a mechanic where you try to talk him down in the third phase.
(Alternatively commune Viktor as we know him does not exist because the spell Revivify exists and Jayce shouldn't have to turn to unlicensed necromancy to get Viktor back**. Speaking of...)
Jayce*: Hexblade Warlock/Paladin (Oath of the Watchers)***. Again, if left to his own devices in a DnD world, Jayce would be a wizard. I'd say Abjuration (tanky wizard with protective shields) because he wants to protect people (and he's tanky), Order of Scribes (if he's focused on learning/harnessing all magic). Divination to pun on the 'Man of Progress' thing or if you interpret his glitches in s2 as visions of another world/seeing the truth of the commune members/arcane spidey-sense, which tbh really works
However, If I wanted to create Arcane-Jayce in DnD, I would make a Hexblade Warlock/Paladin multiclass. Hexblade warlocks get magic from a weapon, so it can be flavoured as Jayce using his hammer to do/cast magic. The hammer blasts can be very easily flavoured as eldritch blasts. Paladin is added narratively after the post-apocalypse world but not needed if you just wanted to mimic abilities. I'd go for Oath of the Watchers because they literally protect the realm from extraplanar threats. I've seen some people go for Devotion. That's fair, but it's a bit too Knight in Shining Armour for me.
Mel: Divine Soul Sorcerer. Also pretty easy - sorcerers come by their magic naturally, divine soul sorcerers get their power from a connection with the divine + has the gold/light/shielding imagery/spells. Hell, she's probably an aasimar? I don't know enough league lore to tell.
However, she only got her powers later. I think before that she was an Eloquence Bard or a Mastermind Rogue. Mastermind Rogues are more insightful. Both are incredibly persuasive - the bard moreso. The bard has magic - could be reflavoured as manipulation or as her sorcerer powers poking out before she knew about it. Later you could even multiclass her with sorcerer - works better with Eloquence Bard, but it's still not the most optimal multiclass (that's Jayce's). It's not bad, though, and if you only make optimal multiclasses in dnd you're going to get bored. I'd honestly go bard, only two levels in divine soul sorcerer for sorcery points, get metamagic adept feat for metamagic, it'll be fine. Divine Soul sorcerers get wings and healing at higher levels but if she's an aasimar she already has those.
Caitlyn: Inquisitive Rogue/Battlemaster Fighter multiclass. If you want to play a gunslinger in DnD the general advice is 'battlemaster with a gun'. She probably has the sharpshooter feat (she should have the sharpshooter feat). Inquisitive rogues are intelligent and focus on investigating, unravelling secrets. Rogue/Fighter multiclasses are very good - you only need three levels in fighter (edit: but maybe go for five for extra attack.) (She should also pick up the observant and martial adept feats if she can.)
Bonuses:
Vander: Vander is a bartender NPC at the tavern all our players meet up at during the first session. He's a retired high-level monk. Way of the Open Hand, of course. Just like he taught Vi.
Mylo and Claggor: I only added this because I re-watched the first episode and Mylo was apparently the only one who could pick locks. So Mylo is a Thief Rogue and Claggor is, idk, a fighter? (funnily enough both the artificer and the monk would be good picks for resident lock-picker. Not as good as rogue, but not bad)
Silco: Honestly, Silco would be an NPC with a commoner statblock, but I give him ridiculous bonuses to insight, perception, intimidation, and deception. That said, he did fight Vander, so maybe also Mastermind Rogue? With expertise in intimidation? (Still goes badly for him, though. Do not 1v1 a monk in dnd).
Singed: NPC combo necromancy wizard/alchemist artificer, focusing on the alchemy. I'd probably stick some Spores Druid/Death domain cleric stuff in just to be fun since NPCs can be whatever you want. Honestly, in the average DnD world he could just pay someone to resurrect his daughter and we'd solve half of our problems right there. He's originally from Piltover, right? He can afford it.
Ambessa Medarda: NPC Battlemaster Fighter and she has Rictus' anti-magic item that all your players hate.
Footnotes
* Jayce and Viktor cast 'spells' with hextech that reverses gravity, creates lightning, teleports - but, in the immortal words of Ms. Aabria Iyengar, "anyone can cast fireball teleport." Those are conjuration/evocation spells but you don't have to be a conjurer or evoker. Sometimes I see people think of enchantment wizards as 'wizards who enchant magic items' so maybe we'd put Jayce and Viktor there, but actually enchantment wizards do mind control. And, like I said, commune Viktor is an NPC with a three-phase boss fight. Transmutation wizards are the only wizards who can resurrect without making undead and they do it using their transmuter's stone. Although I'd argue that Viktor's commune members are undead... but anyone can cast the Animate Dead spell. And he's an NPC at that point so his abilities are whatever the DM wants.
** UNLESS you assume the hexcore is Viktor's transmuter's stone (which is how he casts the spells panacea/raise dead that I mentioned). It got corrupted as Viktor created it and when Jayce uses it to cast Raise Dead it goes wrong. (Despite its name the Raise Dead spell is supposed to be a normal, safe resurrection spell AND it cures all nonmagical diseases.) Anyway, we're getting into fanfiction now
*** My problem with the Jayce hexadin class is that it's optimized for charisma. Jayce is very charismatic, but his main characteristic is his smarts. A somewhat popular homebrew is to make warlocks int casters so you could go with that. In that case I might multiclass him with abjuration wizard for the extra tankiness. It's still not as good as the original hexadin multiclass so as a DM i'd allow it. Or just keep paladin, ability-wise you only need it for smites and his charisma should be high anyway. Probably your DM shouldn't allow all three on an int warlock.
On the other hand hexadin Jayce's high charisma makes him well suited for the 'talking down Viktor' mechanism in his third phase bossfight, which ... tracks.

I get it!! hahhdhs but adding onto the modern au aspect of it, I feel like Jinx and Vi have dabbled in Dungeons and Dragons by themselves and Vi actually has some minor experience in Dming; maybe not a full campaign but definitely a little with Ekko and Powder. Like when they were kids, Ekko brought up the idea, showing off some mini's that Benzo found in his old storage room and got curious which is then he learned his father was a massive nerd. Then Vi did some idle research and was like "yeah this seems fun I could be a game master for you two" and it was a MESS at first but eventually Vi becomes pretty decent and they played D&D til they eventually all stopped having time; Then Ekko makes the D&D club and Vi is re-recruited but as a player!!
Vi wouldn't know how to handle being a new player since she's only coming along for her little sister, but she manages to drag along Caitlyn which has actually NEVER heard of D&D before (polarizing head canons we all gasp) But when she does get into it, oh does she get into it.
Cait would play Warlocks or a mix class of Ranger/Rogue no specific subclasses again hsgdh , She also has one of her feats being sharpshooter because her favorite motto is "one good shot is better than ten crummy ones." I think that Cait would appreciate fae, she'd probably play a wood-elf of sorts. She has a really meticulous play style, like she's pre-planned all her actions and doesn't wait a second for her turn. "I move 15 ft forward and I use my bonus action to-" and she continues on, she's arguably the most well versed after a few sessions, studying the rules of the game when she's not playing. Caitlyn is surprisingly good at role-playing, she's shy at first doing the "my character does this" or "my character is" but once she gets into it she's really well characterized, she has an intense backstory but also well knitted new lore and she's honestly great after she gets out of her beginner stage.
Vi doesn't really know what to start off with so her first instinct is to be a fighter, but after some more experience I think that she's branch off to being a Monk or Warlock. I personally think that the Hexblade class would be great for Vi instead of Caitlyn hhaha after looking over the class details it seems fitting for her!! I think that Vi would pick things that seem strong up-front, which makes her pick the Goliath or half-orc class which works out. She's actually winging all of her moves but it works since her mindset is just "punch punch punch" she works well with Ekko and Cait since they would usually be in the back while Vi is up front taking and doing damage (healers worst nightmare) But Vi also has a rocky playstyle, she's a lot more combat focused and not too good at role-play, she can pretend to be her character but its hard for her to get IN character so her interactions are pretty awkward but the party treats her like a big ol' himbo because of it.
Also JayVikMel,
Jayce would be a melee fighter, maybe not hand to hand but like up front with Vi. A Barbarian or Fighter, he's basic but he knows what he's doing. Jayce knows the basics but unlike Vi he knows how to strategize like a nerd, he isn't too good at roleplaying either but he has eccentric personalities when playing so he manages to get away with it. He chooses basic races like Half-elf and Human !! He plays occasionally with Viktor before the group emerged so it wasn't too surprising that they joined.
Viktor is a Paladin, he plays either a Paladin or Wizard and doesn't like close-range combat. He's about 50/50 on Combat to Roleplay, he likes action but also likes the npc interactions, he's really intrigued about non-humanoid races like plasmoids :33 he's good at strategizing and his characters usually don't speak much but when they do he's good at roleplaying! He's the one to get Mel into D&D!
Mel plays as a Divine Soul Sorcerer her first time around, but after gaining some experience she retains her magic user status but branches out to druids and clerics, but she still mainly plays sorcerers. She was brought on to play healer since the group realized that they literally didn't have one and would be doomed so they begged Mel to play, she had little experience being a player but she did have some experience being a dm. She's pretty good in combat and is actively frustrated whenever Vi does anything stupid (run head first into battle to punch the first enemy she sees and gets inevitably surrounded) since she has to be the one to heal her. Role play wise she's awesome, she's basically leading the party, well she would be if Jinx wasn't fighting her for the role by accident. She plays fae-like classes for the most part, but she admits the Aasmir seems interesting.
And to expand on Jinx my girl, she prefers to stay in the backline doing long ranged damage, and she prefers combat to role-play. She isn't exactly bad at it, she just always manages to cause some sort of trouble since she tries leading the group to places to continue the story faster.
I'd also like to say from the research I've been doing I found Owlin and that is the PERFECT race for Ekko :3
hi hello! i noticed in high school au you said ekko’s a dnd guy. what do you think he’d play as? or would he be a dm?
Omg had to answer this right away but I personally think that Ekko would play as a druid or ranger, he’s played various classes, but those two are his favorite!! I also think he has some experience Dming but not too much, he’s able to do occasional one-shots but any campaign that lasts more than 3 sessions wears him out.
He’d be more basic and stay close to humanoid figures when playing races, he’s chosen to play an Aarakocra more times than he’d like to admit.
He’d be the type who’s not super into combat and plays mainly neutral characters with detailed backstories, he likes the roleplay aspect a lot and likes the occasional fight. Whenever he plays with Jinx he kind of falls back as support? It’s strange but it works!!
I’d specify on subclasses but I’m still fairly new and I main charisma classes like sorcerer and bard so I know very little about how druids or rangers work but I just feel like they’d fit him from personal experience.
And I know we didn’t ask but I do have to mention my girl Jinx, she’s playing as a spunkier race with mixed classes from a magic class and an artificer (artillerist) ; she always fucks with the dm hardcore too, they hate to see her coming with her bag of random things she takes from their adventures.
“I grab that mushroom and put it in my bag”
“Not even,,, gonna do an investigation check it to see if it’s dangerous?”
“I have gloves on, I’ll be fine lolol”
BUT yeah I love d&d asks I’d love to talk more about the other arcane characters and d&d if you’d wanna hear about it >3<

MEET THE GREY FAMILY:
Richard Grey (Ralph Fiennes) - 55 years old
Susanne Grey (Kate Moss) - 47 years old
Sierra Grey (Florence Pugh) - 21 years old
Savannah Grey (Madelyn Cline) - 19 years old
Sedona Grey (Lily-Rose Depp) - 18 years old
Father - Richard Grey
Richard is a fearsome, intimidating figure, who absolutely melts around his three daughters. He might be a little absentee, as a finance man, but he makes up for the time he spends at work instead of at home with a huge salary, family money, and credit cards for each of his daughters. He refuses to see anything but the best in them, and always believes that they are not at fault. ....Except for Sav sometimes.
Mother - Susanne Grey
Susanne may be a stay at home mother, but that also doesn’t mean she’s ever been hands on. A former model, she was always a little bit more of a trophy wife, rather than a mom, and as she’s aged, she’s just kinda found it hard to keep track of all three of them. One of them is always up to something. Sedona is her favorite, but she won’t admit that out loud. Unless she’s a couple of glasses of wine in.
Eldest Sister - Sierra Grey (Libra - September 29th, 2000)
Sierra is still in college, and she’s the one Sav really learned her partying ways from. Her friends were always amused by the middle Grey tagging along, and it’s safe to say they were not good influences. Sierra is a loose cannon, and has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She’s extremely kind-hearted and actually one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet, with good advice, if you can ever pin her down long enough to get her to have a conversation.
Youngest Sister - Sedona Grey (Cancer - July 19th, 2003)
Sedona is the least pretentious of all of the daughters, even though she’s the most spoiled. She’s actually hard-working, and plans to follow in their father’s footsteps into finance. She is your typical, bratty youngest sister. She tries to keep Sav and Sierra in line, but does that by tattling on them to their parents constantly, which really has just ended up with Sedona getting left out of their more risky adventures.
THE GREY’S - PATERNAL FAMILY:
Andrew Grey (Cillian Murphy) - 48 years old
Melody Grey (Madisyn Menchaca) - 18 years old (Pisces - February 28th, 2003)
Mel is the daughter of Richard’s younger brother. She and Sav are extremely close, and Mel also attends Luxor. Although she is technically a year younger than Sav, they’re in the same grade since Sav had to repeat kindergarten (lol). She’s actually fairly smart, though she is fairly naive/easily manipulated, and extremely spoiled, and so she definitely comes off even more out of touch then Savannah. She has the feels like your typical pisces, but the resting bitch face definitely comes from that scorpio rising.
Jillian Grey-Kennedy (Kathryn Hahn) - 50 years old
Kyle Kennedy (Danielle Campbell) - 24 years old (Aries)
Kyle is the oldest cousin on the Grey side, the daughter of Richard’s sister. She grew up in Texas, as Jillian Grey moved there to marry the son of an oil baron, just increasing how rich that family was. Kyle was a competitive gymnast who was on track to go to the Olympics until she had a devastating injury, and then she moved out to Los Angeles and is working as a bartender and fucking around because she has no idea what else to do. She’s kinda a huge bitch, and doesn’t get along with the rest of the cousins as well, but she’s still around when they need her to be.
TBD - MATERNAL FAMILY
Maternal Aunt - (Teressa Liane) - 35 years old
Maternal Uncle - TBD FC
Maternal Cousin - (Olivia Holt) - 22 years old

SEND A “🙌” AND I’LL INTRODUCE YOU TO AN NPC RELATED TO MY MUSE
MEET MELODY GREY
FC: MADISYN MENCHACA
Melody is Sav’s younger cousin on her father’s side. She is a year and a half younger, so the two have always been super close (even though techincally Mel is closer in age to Sedona), and she also attends Luxor in the travel program. She’s a bit more wide-eyed and innocent, especially compared to Sav and a lot of her friends, but she runs with the gang anyways. She’s also smarter than Sav, so if you ever wonder how Sav continuously gets good grades, it’s because Melody helps her (even though she’s a year younger). Not that Sav is dumb, she’s just lazy, and Mel is very sweet and easily manipulated. Mel is just as spoiled as Sav is, but considering she is an only child, it goes to her head a little bit more, which is why she comes off a bit more sheltered than her Grey cousins. But she’s always down for whatever, which is all Sav really asks of her friends, and why, even though she’s family first, she gets the invite to everything still. She doesn’t get to be privy to most of Sav’s secrets though, just because Mel cannot keep her mouth shut most of the time.
