I love the college of winterhold. everyone there is casually deranged and there's like an alarming number of students and staff who threaten you immediately when they meet you. it's always one of the first questlines I do. which makes it even funnier when you get made the arch-mage of the college. I'm level 12 and got through this questline knowing exactly 3 spells. what do you mean you want me to lead the college. this school CANNOT be an accredited institution

silco dying coincidentally the same time negotiations were being planned should’ve been something in season 2 i think. of course we know how he was killed but everyone else doesn’t (WE don’t even know who knows he was killed by jinx or not) the coincidental timing paired with piltovers excessive use of police force should’ve motivated zaunites still loyal to him because there WERE people still loyal to him it was one of caitlyn’s goals to specifically target them. in a decades long conflict on the brink of war, paranoia and anger would cause at least one person to theorize that silcos death was a purposeful and planned attack by piltover. adding in jinx becoming a symbol for zaun too like that could. be something idc. dramatic irony was used in an excellent way throughout season 1 and it could’ve been used in season 2 as well

pondering that falon'din is associated with an owl, and those are also messengers of andruil. and he's referred to as "winged death" which is also mentioned to be something that elgar'nan deploys against enemies. and both falon'din and andruil are referred to as venturing into dark places, where no one else can survive/wanted to go.

and ghilan'nain was not initially an evanuris, but was antagonistic towards them and making a bunch of weird creatures. she was given the offer to join them in return for getting rid of the creatures, and accepted. but with "pride stopping her hand" from destroying a few. and when asked about trusting people to share power, solas says "I know that mistake well enough to carve the angles of her face from memory."

solas also has nothing good at all to say about falon'din, mostly calling him a bloodthirsty tyrant who went so far in encroaching onto other evanuris territory that mythal had to besiege his temple and beat him up to stop him.

but he says nothing about dirthamen at all.

dirthamen is described as having gone missing unexpectedly, scaring all his followers, because they were now unprotected. and caught between their own high priest wanting to lock them into the temple forever like a cask of amontillado, and other forces outside that wanted to take their secrets by force. there is one note that a dirthamen follower defied the evanuris and took on a forbidden (probably a dragon) type of form, and was judged by elgar'nan harshly. he apparently also invented the varterral to protect his town from a high dragon? wack, but also could indicate that he had worked with ghilan'nain on making it, since she's the only one who's otherwise mentioned to be bioengineering stuff.

dirthamen has very very few surviving statues or depictions, and is more associated with falon'din than as his own independent figure in the dalish myths. even his own temple includes mosaics of falon'din. there's a few statues that are probably dirthamen, but the most striking is in mythal's section of the fade behind the eluvian, which is a statue of a hooded figure, doubled over with a giant sword sticking out of his back.

Honestly, of all the companions, I think if you wanted to take your SS down a gritty, horror route in the sense that they're kind of an evil bastard, Danse is the easiest person to completely fuck up because his morals are entirely dependent on who he respects. Preston would never compromise his values. Nick wouldn't. All the other companions are so stalwart in their views that it would take some MEGA fucked shit to get them to change, and most of them, they wouldn't just roll over.

Danse absolutely would as long as you lined your goals close enough to his, earned his trust and admiration, got some authority or emotional leverage, and then started the veer-off slowly. If SS was a smooth talker who liked people insecure and codependent on them, Danse would be hanging off their leg. This is all post BB but even prior, he's not as rigid in his values as he wants to be. Danse seeks community and justice, he wants to be a good person and do right. If he's told that means eradicating mutants and that he'll have family while doing so—see what I mean? All it would take is one person who climbs farther than he ever could on that righteous ladder, who is then kind enough to spare him—and then icy enough to use that guilt and gratitude as bargaining, likely without Danse even realizing it.

What I'm saying is that Danse could easily be the victim of a psychological thriller and have his brain chopped and screwed in ways previously unknown to man
