Occasional Visits

Once upon a time, there was a man who had a pit of Lazarus and was the Head of the League of Assassins. Perhaps the Lazarus is rancid ecto, and the death emanating from all of the members around to it is really starting to pull some attention.

And perhaps, one High Queen of the Infinite Realms early on had decided that, "Man, I gotta check this out." Time, of course, decides that "That would be a good precaution. Just be careful." And gives a few time portal visits.

Now, imagine those visits keep going. For the Head of the League, it is a first meeting of suspicion followed by rivalry, before the years churn along into an amicable acquaintance. For the High Queen, it is a FrootLoop who needs to be kept under watch, before years grind down the drive to continue messing with his plans and go back to managing the Realms and allowing for others to take action.

Contemplate the idea that only five years with visits for the High Queen is decades with occasional visits for the Head of the League. Maybe it is an occasion that is now greeted with a bit of celebration, for someone who he can talk too and know from the past who isn't now against him or dead.

And maybe, just maybe, he's about to get another visit. Right in the middle of something important. Who could say?

so insulted right now 😂💖 you got me anon, you know my taste so so well!!! he's cute and he looks perpetually on the edge of a breakdown;;; i am terribly excited to see what, in Smurfs 2025, could possibly qualify Joel as being distinctly cringe in relation to the movie...been scraping around for info from the trailers and TV spots and think we can make an educated guess on his deal:

we know Gargamel's brother Razamel is the big bad of the movie, and it looks like Joel is Razamel's (overworked, underpaid) assistant! ostensibly Gargamel and Razamel are working together, but it looks like Razamel's approach to Smurf-napping is a more high-tech operation (even if he's still using magic) 🤔

every time Joel shows up in the trailers he's always with Razamel and/or Gargamel, and it looks like he may be 'in charge' of keeping the Smurfs in captivity? maybe having some tech-savvy geek is crucial to pulling that off 😂

there's this fun scene with Razamel delivering his plans to the 'Intergalactic Evil Wizard Alliance', and i think it's one of those fun 'Villain Organisation' type deals where he needs to like. get funding, fill out paperwork, etc. corporatised villainy. possibly Joel is a hire from this organisation!! he's like Razamel's Igor, but modern and in desperate need of a holiday 💀

my prediction for this movie (which is barely a prediction) is that Gargamel is tremendously jealous of his brother and ends up switching sides to help the Smurfs escape, in a 'i don't want this if i'm not the one killing you!' kind of way 😂💖 we don't know much about Joel's personality yet, but i'd bet money on him not being paid/treated well enough to remain on Razamel's side. personally i'm hoping for a Stobotnik-type situation with them both 🙈 either way, i'm excited for this movie no matter how silly/embarrassing it may be 🥰 it's just going to be a good bit of light-hearted fun!! can't throw stones when The Smurfs 2011 is your comfort movie 😭😭

4.0 GPA FOR THE SEMESTER, BABYYYYYYYYYYY

this raised my overall GPA to a 3.12. which it's a little sad that i'd been struggling so much prior to this past year (from unmedicated adhd & having to work a fucking job while in school) bc i probably Could have had a really high overall GPA. this past year proved that i *can* be a good college student. but Oh Well. i can be proud of what i've accomplished in this past year at least. and i can be proud of going from academic probation a year ago to getting straight A's in my final semester of college. and managing to raise my GPA up to a 3.12. still an accomplishment!!!

We pretty much got 100% confirmation that he is intentionally hurting Baghera and Forever and that he thinks of himself as expendable. What fascinates me the most is when Bad asked Foolish this

“Is there anything wrong with burning the forest to save the trees?”

At first glance you might think YES if u burn the forest then there won’t be any trees??!! However it is a custom on fire risk zones to create controlled fires that burn up brush and dead trees so that the risk of a natural and far more devastating fire is reduced. Additionally, if a fungus infects a forest, burning the infected trees may be the only way to prevent the spread to the rest of the forest.

On top of that, there is a specific type of tree species that requires fires in order to reproduce. These are often Pine trees that drop pinecones. Pinecones hold seeds inside them that only germinate when immense heat is applied to them: the heat of a forest fire. When they are within these temperatures, the seeds germinate and the pine cones pop, scattering the seeds on the forest floor. These trees adapted to form a symbiotic relationship with fire one of if not the most destructive natural forces on the earth.

Do you know one of the trees that has developed this adaption? Redwoods.

The whole reason I noticed this scene is because I live near the redwood forests in California and I know all about the way these trees depend on fires for their survival. It’s something that’s always fascinated me. That’s when I assume Bad was going to ask foolish the above question before Jaiden and Teana cut their conversation short while they were talking on the Titian . He literally had these specific trees on his mind when he was going to ask about burning down the forest.

Let me tell you another thing about Redwood trees. They are ancient. They are massive. They are sturdy. Natural fires are a common phenomenon here and a majority of the redwoods survive with barely a scratch, maybe an inch or two of its outer bark scorched. Nothing it won’t grow past in a year or two when these trees easily live for 500+ years.

(Side note, if there is one place in America you should visit it’s the redwood forests of California. It is literally like entering a portal to another world. These trees are 10-15 ft in diameter easily and you can just feel how ancient the forests are. It’s one of my all time favorite places to go)

So, in the situation Bad is proposing, burning the forest to save the trees, he is actively thinking about Redwoods in this hypothetical. Not only trees that are extremely resistant to fire but trees that depend on fire to survive. That completely changes the way he is approaching this question.

In his hypothetical, the forest will burn. The animals will die. The brush and non redwoods will turn to ash. The land will be scarred and the trees themselves may look dead, branchless and black. But. But. A season will pass and new branches will peel through the charcoal. Seeds deep in the soil will surge forth as the soil is fed nutrients from the ash. Animals will return. Pinecones will shed their fertilized seeds to give birth to a new generation of trees. And by next year, the forest will look just as vibrant as it had before the fire. Trees may bear the scars of the flames but life continues and it continues and it continues always.

having a new hyperfixation and a new ship and desperately wanting to write a g/t fic of them but also really wanting to wait til i consume more of the media and really get into these characters heads. like it’s not enough to write a g/t fic about them, i need to analyze these guys to such an insane degree so i can write 100% in character reactions to finding a tiny/being a tiny. and like it’s not that i’m worried readers will find it OOC. this accuracy is all for me baybee. i need to be able to read this in five years when i know every single fact abt this show, and still find it in character. i need to absorb their psyches. like if i don’t spend a dozen hours combing the wiki and finding out their most niche traits and utilize it for a fucked up fearplay oneshot then like, what’s the point

I'll be watching the show probably right as it comes out so please block those tags before the season is released. I don't think I'll liveblog much because that's exhausting for me but I might do some type of post with all my thoughts after each episode.

it's been a while since i last watched steven universe but. listen. queerplatonic lapidot.

and not as a consolation prize "the crew waited til after the show was over and peridot was half of the fandom's most popular ships to reveal that peridot was aroace so the fandom wants an alternate way to keep shipping them" way

but as its own beautiful thing

like, take the main elements that make peridot and lapis's relationship as a romantic partnership or a friendship so interesting and endearing to so many people... and then add the complications of navigating a non-traditional relationship on top of that

peridot wondering why she doesn't feel attraction like the other gems she's met or like in the shows she loves. but finding so much happiness in this thing she's got going with lapis that she doesn't care that she can't feel romance, because what could be better than this? besides, isn't that the beauty of earth, that she doesn't have to act and feel like all the other gems, that she can just do things her own way?

lapis starts to worry that she's just settling for her relationship with peridot because she's afraid of romance after what happened with jasper, that she'll somehow become unsatisfied with her relationship with peridot after she works past that trauma. but time passes and she works through her trauma and fear of relationships, and those worries never come true and she never finds herself dissatisfied with her relationship with peridot, never finds herself wishing their relationship would turn romantic or wishing to replace peridot with a romantic partner (she may or may not consider getting a romantic partner *in addition to* peridot in the future, but that relationship would never be considered above her and peridot's relationship. and she's happy either way, with or without romance)
