they forget their initial plans for the day when they saw reader and their friend get up from the table, and followed them around for their assumed date. They follow them as they walk in a clothing store, makeup store and even buying a plushie on the way.

needless to say the girls have had enough bcs their hearts could't take it that you're taking another girl on a date🥺. But when they get back home, with the reader following right after, they were surprised to see the stuff reader bought was actually for them! A new turtle plush for zoey, matching coats with mira, and some makeup rumi's been talking about lately! Oh how their hearts melted at that moment...

You may or may not have been trained to handle emotional distress too but this one, you have NO clue why they've just suddenly started crying together. But they all dogpile you into a hug, and it just gets even more confusing

They Swear to you that you haven't done anything wrong, they're just so very touched about the gesture that they felt so overwhelmed!! Bc it's coming from you!!!! But then they start crying again when Zoey overthinks and asks if this is your LEAVING GIFT and you gotta reassure all three of them that No you are Not Leaving what are they even on about 😭

They get kinda even more embarrassed, not just for the jealousy (esp since they have Not even asked you out like at all yet so technically they don't have much of a right to be jealous HAHAHA) but bc of their emotional outburst. But atp working w them means that you're more than used to every single facet of them, including the way they seem to share emotions like a single braincell passed along the three of them

Needless to say though that they cherish your gifts forever :3c Zoey sleeps while cuddling your turtle plush every night, Mira now has a main coat she uses whenever possible (and she WILL find a way to fashion it into most of her fits), and Rumi actually never uses your gifted makeup unless it's for special occasions BUT she DOES carry the lipstick/tint/gloss you've bought her everywhere like an essential item on her person

Y'know what I'm just gonna take the opportunity to rant about the projects I keep vagueposting about a little XD

Hi, I'm your local ManyNamed dumbass with a dumpsterfire of a tumblr blog occasionally interrupted with some og doodles of my idiot menagerie (you can look for them on my blog under #dropping this at your feet and scurrying back into the cave).

In my free time I'm trying to balance visual art with writing... in practice I overfocus on one or the other. Most of my og writing stuff (snippets and other WIP-relevant posts) is here: #graphomanic sweat and tears. Unfortunately I'm not planning to post snippets more often because I generally don't write in English (I don't want to know how many typos already slipped into this post) and I either need to translate them myself or throw them raw in a language virtually no writeblr can read. (I might engage in some prompts from the summer fest though, they seem fun!)

My current big writing WIP with the greatest chance of Actually Getting Finished is Crow Chronicles, a novel about a crusty old cynical grim reaper that got relocated from an overloaded megalopolis office to a rural province after one of his collegues disappears without a trace. The increased risk of disappearing as well nonwithstanding, Foster expects his work there to be much more tolerable than the big city crunch. That hope is quickly dispelled as he is thrown head-first into literal age-old schemes and feuds of the town. All while dealing with the strangest neighbors he had this half of the century. (Shitposts, art and writing blurbs here: #this fossilized geezer is literally too uptight to die just let him do his job)

The second WIP that keeps taking up my brainpower is Magic's Tide, a story about an absolute circus of a family starring an unaware mage kid who's too curious for his own good. He and his friends from their paranormal and cryptid enthusiasts' club accidentally discover that magic is not only real, but abused by malicious parties, which eventually spirals his life out of control as he naively tries to handle the mess he got himself into all on his own... well, if you don't count the mage trapped on the other side of the mirror that agreed to help him learn magic after years of silence. Hopefully one day I'll be able to bring this saga to life, the current version of the story will include themes I'll need to give a lot of care to so the 1st book keeps getting pushed aside. For the blorbo shenanigans and art, however, the tag is #two sets of incompetent parents try to raise a blissfully unaware demigod.

I was also working on a comic script some time back, which I'd love to go back to someday and compress that behemoth of the current version into something achievable. Twisted Fate is about a man destined to become a vessel for an ancient demon that'd lay waste to the entire world if not for this mortal form... Except, when Silhart's time comes, for the first time in, well, forever, the vessel actually survives, trapping and making the demon truly powerless. Unless you count the maddening chatter of primordial magic that will make Silhart and his loved ones question everything he is. Frankly this project is mostly an excuse to write garden-variety dumbasses, doomed/toxic yaoi and family drama. The tag for this one is #the local gays miraculously dodge the cruel claws of fate and still manage to fuck it up.

I'm also planning to go back to short-form stories once I finish the Crow Chronicles draft (or I get burned out lmao), which should be easier to translate if I have the time.

I think the reason why EN fans are so worried about whether the anime gets a global release or not is simply because I feel fandoms in general have become VERY impatient. Attention spans are shorter than ever, social media makes excited chatter and doomposting very accessible, and works of art have, unfortunately, become "content" which is quickly consumed before we return to the prowl for new "content" to satiate our hunger.

You see this kind of impatience a lot whenever the JP server gets new content. English-speaking Twst fans flock to fan translations or ask who has them, and they're quick to believe the first thing they hear + spread that misinformation. Spoilers and leaks drop every few days. People get antsy when they don't see a groovy right away or when event stories are time gated/released across a long period of time.

To have the Twst anime accessible on a well-known streaming platform like Disney+ just makes things... easier. People generally don't enjoy having to go out of their way to research or to find what they're looking for, they like it when the answer is fast, convenient, and already served to them on a silver platter. I think part of it has to do with culture as well; it sounds like fansubs, fansubs, and certain methods of... uh, sailing the seven seas, shall we say, distribution are popular within Latin America (I have a few friends of this cultural background who tell me as much)--but this may not be the case for other countries.

In terms of potential dubs, that probably just comes from fans being excited to hear the Twst characters in their own languages. It’s more of a “it’d be nice to have” thing and makes the anime more accessible to those who prefer to listen to another language or prefer dubs. I believe there have been a number of groups that attempted to fandub the Twst game, but those projects always fell through one way or another so the faith for them may be low.

Mmmm… Not sure if I understand what you mean when you say Disney wants to “sell”? Disney+ subscriptions are all a flat fee, so I doubt the release of a sort of niche anime will have a huge impact in sales. They would gain the same amount of money per subscription.

I’m guessing you’re referring to the secondary benefits of the anime (ie advertising the game, manga, light novel, merch, etc.)? But that’s actually difficult to gauge because a lot of viewers will already be preexisting Twst fans, and we don’t know the split of viewers who would be considered “brand new” or pulled into the fandom through the anime.

Choosing to not release it globally doesn’t necessarily mean they’re wasting money because a majority of the money Twst earns is already coming from its JP fanbase. I’m sure they would still pull a pretty profit from their home turf. If anything, I’m actually so surprised Twst is putting forth the money to dub the anime when the game and a LOT of its merch isn’t available to most of the world?? Not only that, but it can cost tens of thousands to dub an anime season due to production costs and having to pay VAs, sound mixers, etc.! I guess whoever the Twst accountants are must have thought this risk was worth it to get the word out about their product…?

Tate Brombal appeared on a Nerd Funk podcast which you can find here on Spotify where he talks about various books he’s working on + breaking into the industry but most importantly (to me): Batgirl 2024!!

Him talking about Batgirl starts at around 9:30 but here’s some specific highlights of stuff i found interesting:

DC has been generally supportive of his ideas with Cass and how he sees her character and is letting him have wiggle room, but it apparently got complicated with what villains or characters he was allowed to bring in due to them already being in other books, so he decided to make his own. They’ve been supportive of his new characters/worldbuilding

His pitch/vision for the book was tapping into the forgotten martial arts characters/world of DC

“Cass is a lucky character to have because a lot of Nightwing and Babs and obviously Batman have had so many stories about them that you kind of run out of yknow ‘what else can I say with this character?’ […] But with Cass I wanted to push her character and challenge her and have a true character arc across the series that brings her to like a new level of development that will be lasting for her.”

Batgirl sales are doing good and there will be more to come!!! “There’s no end in sight” !!!

Apparently DC is less concerned with a larger universe constraint/interconnecting stories/the larger world of Gotham and more concerned with each book just being the best version of itself that it can be.

He gets asked a question about writing Cass’s voice and answers: “she distills meaning and it’s going to be blunter and get to the point […] she’s going to tell you in the most direct way what she wants to say when she wants to say it.” & “I think she’s learned to use words like she uses her fists, […] in the first arc Shiva pokes her about that because she can see she’s holding back. And she’s like ‘speak, say it, […] that’s a wasted job if you’re not going to say what you mean’ […] it’s a journey and she’s learning.”

He goes more into how he writes her narration as well! He likes to write her noticing something in her narration but not voicing it aloud until later

Next arc starts issue 12 and will be 5 issues! He gets more into detail but it’s kinda hard to summarize

Issue 11 apparently has a really great fight scene/choreography by Takeshi Miyazawa that Brombal is very excited for

For the art/fight scenes, Brombal wanted the fight scenes/martial arts to be just as important as dialogue. His favorite is the train fight on issue 3 (he actually had the train fight scene idea first and then worked the story around it to put them on a train because he wanted to write it so bad LMAO)

Leslie Thompkins Redux - Leslie might be dead at the moment, not sure, but this character is an update of the specific kind of radical she was in the 80s: a woman who runs the safe injection site in the narrows. Its a wildly ambitious, chronically underfunded, and constantly under attack. Red hood’s support keeps her in business, but they don’t actually get along. She's the non-violent but by no means toothless alternative to Red Hood's solution for the drug trade.

Pole dancer Marge - she’s not a victim of human trafficking, it’s just her normal job. They're friends when out of their work uniforms. They don't engage with each other on the job.

Part time Goon - and possibly Jason's neighbour. He's trying to go straight but money is forever tight and he's got kids to raise. He picks up shifts from criminal groups between the legitimate jobs he's perpetually cycling through. He and Jason get along... kinda. Sometimes. Its complicated.

Precocious Little Shit - Part Time Goon's younger kid, a child who is very annoying to Jason specifically, we're talking getting bullied by 8 year olds on fortnight vibes. They regularly get into more trouble than intended and need rescuing.

Troubled Little Shit - Part Time Goon's older kid, a young teen who is going through it. They've got a drug habit, mental health issues, and a grab bag of personal dramas and tragedies. They're looking for a reason to live to 20. Jason desperately hopes they find one.

A career clown trying to fix the profession's reputation in Gotham. Jason is both skeptical and grudgingly impressed at the sheer audacity. He has made it his personal mission to never once laugh at his jokes, but also nobody is allowed to kill this guy. Every interaction they have is unremarkable low stakes but also insane. Jason is having Light Yagami style internal monologues around him while the clown is very sincerely making a balloon animal.

Retired Prison Guard - a really nasty piece of work, who happens to know a lot of useful stuff. They were forcibly retired after the drug ring they ran through the prison got busted by a rival gang, so now they want to bring it all down. its a 'if i can't have it no one can' situation. Jason hates this person and is hated right back, but circumstance has made them allies. Sort of. (Not Really).

Big Tony - a giant tabby cat that lives in the alley out the back of Jason's house.

Little Tony - a bouncer for one of the bigger clubs on that side of Gotham, and a genuine good guy. He and Jason are friends. They might share a smoke at three in the morning when both have finished work for the night. Pole Dancer Marge might also make an appearance.

The Screaming Clairvoyant - the lead singer of shitty punk band that does the dive bar circuit around Gotham, who happens to have a very mild form of magic vision. Can they see ghosts? The future? Disturbances in reality? They don't really know, they don't know much of anything, except what to do for someone ODing out the back of a bar and how to dodge the cops. Jason genuinely likes their music. Are they friends? They are unsure. They definitely know each other 👍

A Mean Old Lady - she runs the local thrift shop and she hates everyone. Except Jason. She likes this one exhausted young man who comes in to pick over the dog-eared paperbacks and musty smelling hoodies.

Amnesiac hobo John Constantine from a different dimension who doesn't know what's going on. He’s here too.

in my beautiful vision where da4 was a bit less, uhhhh. flop-tier. i think a "hunt for varric's soul in the stone after he got stabbed" dlc would actually be so neat???

imagine it this way: solas stabs varric*. he then uses a fake blood magic hallucination varric to escape the regret jail REALLY fast, by having fake varric guilt trip the fuck out of rook to increase their regret levels. since that is the logical reason to create a blood magic hallucination. rather than having the hallucination be nice and polite, fhdsjfgdj

*(it's a bit stupid that he uses A Knife like a level 2 rogue instead of just hitting him with a spell or turning him into a statue, but, whatever. the dramatic necessity. i guess solas can have a little a knife, as a treat? maybe he could theoretically hit him with a mind blast and accidentally impale him on a nearby lyrium spike, supernatural finale style?)

however, once in the regret prison: rook DOES manage to escape. somehow. bc despite solas not doing it this time, some varric-like entity seems to be communicating with them and leading them out regardless? experts are baffled. no one is sure whether this is a real varric, or just rook genuinely hallucinating him for emotional support, or what.

after this, solas actually gets to do stuff with his rebellion, so that he's not such a flop, and you can work with/against him to deal with the evanuris and the black city. he's adamant that he DID kill varric, feels pretty bad about it, and thinks rook is just making this up to feel better.

then, throughout the game, you keep finding hard in hightown pages. except these ones have not been written yet? it's clearly varric's handwriting and it reads like his drafts, but no one has seen these before. and there's some hints of like, strange earthquakes or titan signs, but it's not resolved during the game.

THEN. post game dlc! you collect more of these pages, and they keep having references to certain locations, which lead you to go to... the titan underneath kirkwall. since that would be cooler than trying to do a varric related quest in tevinter lmao. then you get to do a quest to reconnect this titan to the fade a little bit, and you have to navigate funky little dream sequences where the titan is TRYING to communicate to you, but all it has in its psychic vocabulary is like. fantasy noir serials and trashy romance novels?

so it is trying to explain the elf/titan war and all these deep metaphysical concepts using metaphors of "hot widow who's asking a private eye to investigate her wealthy husband's death" and stuff like that. and after navigating through these, you figure out how to reconnect it to the fade. and then idk, varric ends up as its official spokesman or something. maybe after it gains enough power, it decides to Rebuild Him™ into a new body bc it requires him to go back and write more books. and this is also a great way to justify varric narrating literally anything from that point on, if bioware happened to release more games. 🫡

July Monthly Update

God, what a month, huh? (If you only want the game update skip the first paragraph)

So, July was a lot in a variety of ways. Part of it for me, was related to my health. If you don't want to read about health stuff, skip this paragraph! I'll try not to get too in detail either! Anyway, if you've followed me for a while you know every monthly update I mention I've gotten sick again. The reality is, they've been pretty bad episodes. And the long and short of it was I had to go to the ER in July. Tldr; my kidneys probably don't like absorbing potassium so my body shut down because of it. I am fine now, mostly!!! Like most of my other health issues, it's easy to manage with medication. Now I have to see the kidney doctor, neurologist, and maybe start physical therapy. The state of my health has 100000000% affected my writing pace for the past year or so, and is honestly why chapter 3 took so long to come out. I have a lot of tests to do going forward, and hopefully they'll figure it out why my kidneys started doing this. "But em, why are you also going to a neurologist and starting physical therapy?" You know what, this is already too long, don't worry about it LMAO I just thought I'd update y'all because obviously my health impacts my work output!

OK with that rant out of the way (sorry), a short update: Due to the above, I'm probably not going to be answering prompt or situation asks rn!!!! I'm sorry!!! It feels illegal to put a hold on them after almost 2 years, but I want to use any bandwidth I have on the game. When I feel better, they'll be back!! I might still answer them on occasion because I use them as a warm up sometimes, but they'll pretty much be paused otherwise until September or October. Honestly I might be less active in August in general!

For the actual progress report: I officially love chapter 4, but also, I lied when I said this is going to be shorter than Chapter 3. It's probably going to be around 70k as well, and I blame the tutoring side quests because those were. A lot longer than intended LOL I think those totaled out to 20k words alone. In part because it's a lot of MC figuring out what they can or can't do in regards to magic and necromancy. I got carried away a little but I was having so much fun I don't really care LOL I also hope people love the side characters as much as I do, or at least don't hate them (they're all Annoying, I say, with affection) because you'll be seeing a lot of them.

There's a lot of other stuff going on with this chapter that's very fun, too! I've mentioned before that I don't want to share much of it because it's spoilers, but you can at least have this for the monthly preview! The scene where ??? finally starts referring to MC as 'Little Moon.'
