The data does not support the assumption that all burned out people can ârecover.â And when we fully appreciate what burnout signals in the body, and where it comes from on a social, economic, and psychological level, it should become clear to us that thereâs nothing beneficial in returning to an unsustainable status quo.Â
The term âburned outâ is sometimes used to simply mean âstressedâ or âtired,â and many organizations benefit from framing the condition in such light terms. Short-term, casual burnout (like you might get after one particularly stressful work deadline, or following final exams) has a positive prognosis: within three months of enjoying a reduced workload and increased time for rest and leisure, 80% of mildly burned-out workers are able to make a full return to their jobs.Â
But thereâs a lot of unanswered questions lurking behind this happy statistic. For instance, how many workers in this economy actually have the ability to take three months off work to focus on burnout recovery? What happens if a mildly burnt-out person does not get that rest, and has to keep toiling away as more deadlines pile up? And what is the point of returning to work if the job is going to remain as grueling and uncontrollable as it was when it first burned the worker out?Â
Burnout that is not treated swiftly can become far more severe. Clinical psychologist and burnout expert Arno van Dam writes that when left unattended (or forcibly pushed through), mild burnout can metastasize into clinical burnout, which the International Classification of Diseases defines as feelings of energy depletion, increased mental distance, and a reduced sense of personal agency. Clinically burned-out people are not only tired, they also feel detached from other people and no longer in control of their lives, in other words.
Unfortunately, clinical burnout has quite a dismal trajectory. Multiple studies by van Dam and others have found that clinical burnout sufferers may require a year or more of rest following treatment before they can feel better, and that some of burnoutâs lingering effects donât go away easily, if at all.Â
In one study conducted by Anita Eskildsen, for example, burnout sufferers continued to show memory and processing speed declines one year after burnout. Their cognitive processing skills improved slightly since seeking treatment, but the experience of having been burnt out had still left them operating significantly below their non-burned-out peers or their prior self, with no signs of bouncing back.Â
It took two years for subjects in one of van Damâs studies to return to ânormalâ levels of involvement and competence at work. following an incident of clinical burnout. However, even after a multi-year recovery period they still performed worse than the non-burned-out control group on a cognitive task designed to test their planning and preparation abilities. Though they no longer qualified as clinically burned out, former burnout sufferers still reported greater exhaustion, fatigue, depression, and distress than controls.
In his review of the scientific literature, van Dam reports that anywhere from 25% to 50% of clinical burnout sufferers do not make a full recovery even four years after their illness. Studies generally find that burnout sufferers make most of their mental and physical health gains in the first year after treatment, but continue to underperform on neuropsychological tests for many years afterward, compared to control subjects who were never burned out.Â
People who have experienced burnout report worse memories, slower reaction times, less attentiveness, lower motivation, greater exhaustion, reduced work capability, and more negative health symptoms, long after their period of overwork has stopped. Itâs as if burnout sufferers have fallen off their previous life trajectory, and cannot ever climb fully back up.Â
And thatâs just among the people who receive some kind of treatment for their burnout and have the opportunity to rest. I found one study that followed burned-out teachers for seven years and reported over 14% of them remained highly burnt-out the entire time. These teachers continued feeling depersonalized, emotionally drained, ineffective, dizzy, sick to their stomachs, and desperate to leave their jobs for the better part of a decade. But they kept working in spite of it (or more likely, from a lack of other options), lowering their odds of ever healing all the while.Â
Van Dam observes that clinical burnout patients tend to suffer from an excess of perseverance, rather than the opposite: âPatients with clinical burnoutâŚreport that they ignored stress symptoms for several years,â he writes. âLiving a stressful life was a normal condition for them. Some were not even aware of the stressfulness of their lives, until they collapsed.â
Instead of seeking help for workplace problems or reducing their workload, as most people do, clinical burnout sufferers typically push themselves through unpleasant circumstances and avoid asking for help. Theyâre also less likely to give up when placed under frustrating circumstances, instead throttling the gas in hopes that their problems can be fixed with extra effort. They become hyperactive, unable to rest or enjoy holidays, their bodies wired to treat work as the solution to every problem. It is only after living at this unrelenting pace for years that they tumble into severe burnout.Â
Among both masked Autistics and overworked employees, the people most likely to reach catastrophic, body-breaking levels of burnout are the people most primed to ignore their own physical boundaries for as long as possible. Clinical burnout sufferers work far past the point that virtually anyone else would ask for help, take a break, or stop caring about their work.
And when viewed from this perspective, we can see burnout as the saving grace of the compulsive workaholicâââand the path to liberation for the masked disabled person who has nearly killed themselves trying to pass as a diligent worker bee.Â

Trigonelline is a methylated form of niacin and is a recently isolated molecule that could be the secret ingredient in your stack. This form of the B vitamin is involved in the generation of NAD+, a cofactor for over 500 metabolic processes in cells. Trigonelline promotes cellular repair and energy, and as weâll see, exerts quite a few benefits that are specifically useful for anyone training seriously.
Trigonelline is found in several plant-based foods, notably coffee beans and fenugreek seeds. Green coffee beans contain trigonelline concentrations ranging from 0.6% to 1.0% by weight. However, traditional dietary sources donât provide sufficient amounts to elicit significant physiological effects. For instance, the average trigonelline content in a cup of coffee is approximately 53 mg, and about 50-80% of trigonelline decomposes during the roasting process, leaving virtually nothing for your body to make use of.
Recent research published on this naturally occurring alkaloid highlights its potential in enhancing muscle function and combating age-related decline. A 2024 study published in Nature Metabolism identified trigonelline as a novel precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), a molecule essential for energy metabolism and mitochondrial function. The study demonstrated that trigonelline supplementation improved muscle strength and reduced fatigue in aged mice, suggesting that it can head off the natural muscle decline seen in aging, even in those who are already training at capacity.
NAD+ gets discussed a lot in the longevity space because of its natural and steep decline over the years, tied to all the diseases of aging. For athletes, that efficiency translates into faster recovery, better performance under load, and greater resilience under metabolic stress. Or, you know, complete lack of those things if you donât have enough of it.

Fasting tips!!
First you need to establish your goal. Most people fast to engage ketosis, but what actually is it? Ketosis is a metabolic state where your body is running on stored fat instead of day to day carbohydrates! This helps decrease fat, so thatâs what makes it so desirable. It can also help reduce cravings (ketones naturally suppress appetite, Helps preserve muscle(with adequate protein), improves blood sugar levels, and can actually help people suffering with epilepsy, PCOS, and improve mental clarity!
After fasting or eating a keto diet it may be hard to tell if you entered ketosis, but here are some ways to tell: Fewer cravings, more energy (after a few days), Keto breath (metallic-y Idk how to describe it), weight drops (at first mostly water weight trapped in the carbohydrates in your body), and you can also test with ketone urine strips and blood meters .
In this community obviously the goal is to eat very little (so not all benefits may not be as visible), so itâs common to see things like water fasts. Although it is possible for long stretches of time (382 days being the world record) It isnât sustainable.
If youâre a few days in you may be feeling extremely hungry, but there are ways to eat without ending your ketosis period. You donât only have to drink water, most diet sodas wonât disrupt your metabolic state, but some artificial sweeteners can. (aspartame and Sucralose have some scientific backing to potentially disrupt ketosis by triggering insulin) Certain proteins, vegetables, fruits, and nuts are all keto too! (It is important to note to get the effects this community desires you must eat sparingly, and across a longer period than usual. Eating intuitively during an extreme keto diet will help you drop weight the quickest)
There are some negative side effects to note too, as always. A lot of people experience something called, âKeto Fluâ the symptoms are: Headaches, fatigue, nausea, and brain fog. It should pass in a few days if you drink a lot of water with salt or electrolyte packets.
The following is basically food groups that have keto friendly foods, but please remember if you want the massive changes in weight and desired results eat sparingly, slowly, and intuitively!

So I was doing some looking around and researching into possible real life equivalents for Colorâs physical condition, such as his fragility to the point of possible death if he overexerts his abilities.
Colorâs conditionâwhich is characterized by physical fragility, fatigue, and the potential for severe physical deteriorationâhas similarities to several real-life conditions that affect energy levels, muscle strength, and overall physical integrity such as:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) / Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)
Symptoms: Extreme fatigue that doesnât improve with rest, muscle and joint pain, cognitive difficulties, and post-exertional malaise (worsening of symptoms after physical or mental exertion).
Like Color, individuals with CFS/ME have limited energy reserves and can experience significant physical and cognitive fatigue from overexertion. They need to carefully manage their activity levels to avoid severe consequences.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease)

Good posture is important to your overall health and offers a variety of benefits including reduced back pain, increased energy, and greater confidence. A posture is a form of body language. It signals to others that you are open, engaged, and in control of the situation. This can enhance your social interactions and professional relationships. Having good posture is important to your overall health, as it can help you avoid muscle tension, pain, fatigue, and many other common ailments and medical conditions.
- People often associate posture with status. I've been told I sit posh because I sit upright!
MISCONCEPTIONS: "Many people believe that you need to constantly hold onto a perfectly straight and symmetrical posture, but this can actually do more harm than good.
