This is so sweet! Thank you so much. I do try hard to incorporate a lot of realism into my ideas (as much as one can have in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting, that is), mostly because I think it makes them at least a little easier to connect to. But I believe it also helps to distinguish the characters who don't get a lot of lines/screen time from one another when you make them feel a little more real.

I totally understand why fans who hate Joshua hate him, but he's just far too interesting a character in terms of his history and his perspective for me to not be at least a little obsessed with him. Plus, you know, the way he's clearly oozing that special brand of religious sexual repression and/or personal fear of intimacy that eventually leaves you a foaming-at-the-mouth freak. That's the shit I like, tbh.

I'd argue that one of the things that fuels Joshua's inner debauchery the most is how vehemently he denies it even exists. Yes, he admits to being an overtly bloodthirsty and angry person in the past (and I think he'd be pretty frank in divulging that he still deals with anger every single day), but how could he deny it? There's historical record of what a shitty, violent person he's been in the past. His personal perversions, however, he can completely deny the existence of as long as he can keep them under wraps/ignore them. It's when he meets someone who makes that denial difficult or impossible that things get both sexy and very messy.

There's no way that man wouldn't resent you at least a little for making him so horny all the time, even if he really likes and respects you as a person. More likely he'd resent you a lot. Joshua gets angry with you, not because of anything you've done, but because you prove to him that he's failed to purge himself of his uglier characteristics, those he deeply wishes he could just pray away: his punitive jealousy, his lust, his desire for control. He wants you deeply, but you also torment him.

Anyway, I'm never upset to hear that I've made someone look at a character differently (but in, like, an off-beat horny way). Thanks for reading!

Okay so after the timeskip i got sooo confused because dick just proposed to babs but then suddenly he is sleeping with some other girl ive never heard of before, there is no explination for where he is or what happened to blud (no exposition page), clancy is back (i cant tell if she knows dick is nightwing or not) and everything is different and there is just no indication of what is going on. I had to go to google and reddit told me infinite crisis happens between this gap but there is no indication of this anywhere in the comics. I get that at the time it would have been well known that there is infinite crisis going on but if anyone gets into comics anytime after that without this very nifty handy online resources they would have no idea what is going on. Its the same case for all the little arcs rhat have issues in different comics, if the line you are folling has part 5 of an arc you would have no idea where to start cuz it doesnt tell you. As a new comic book reader this is very difficult. I have a hang of it but its so complicated still without online resources.

Anyway im going to pause reading nightwing for now. I am going to read infinite crisis and the tie ins and everything but before i do that i am going to go back and read all these shorter comic things that i started at the same time before i start on this gargantuant thing of reading all these comics 0.0 ill pause and just read all these shorter things i want to check out

Also i know its all one compant but it is CRAZY how the many issues (400+) that are involved in the crisis spannong over the entirety of the dc comic lines at that time are coordinated. People calling Hobie×Miles (punkflower) shippers proshippers as if we didn't ship them for longer than the movie even came out will always be crazy to me.

I've seen lots of people sending threats, or reporting people because they made punkflower, goldenflower (pavxhobie), ghostbyte (gwenxmargo), flowerbyte (margoxmiles), etc, arts or videos. Going to assume that it isn't because most of these ships are POCs ships, there's just literally no point to do that.

First of all, there's no confirmation of hobie's age. If ur basing urself of that one interview, then it was of the CONCEPT of hobie, and even so remember it was only one person who said it. Its heavily implied thats he's a teenager throughout the movie. (Also in the art book, its said that he's slightly older than Miles).

For the thing about him going to the pub and all, minors can and will go in pubs, (not saying that its always legal) are yall living under a rock or just dense on purpose? Teenagers do wtv the fuck they want, even when theyre not allowed to. Youre all going to tell me teenagers respect the rules of not drinking and go to clubs becuz theyre underage? Come off it. Also hobie literally merked his president and u think he'd draw the line at drinking alcohol as a minor? HA.

Aside from that, to be fair to everyone, the directors keeps on changing what they're saying about hobies age, one day they'll say and imply he's a minor and the next second say he's an adult. It's like they all have different idea of this character's age. So, nothing is really comfimed, and his age is really up to interpretation.

Now that we're past THAT point, the other kind of people talking about his age are people saying "oh but he looks old" "that man is most definitely 30yo" "there's no way he's underage" things of the sort, u get it. And I'm just over here like??? Why is it impossible for you to think that this guy could be a teen? Is it the air? The wrinkles? What makes it seem like for you that there's no way he could be around the other teens' age? And 30??? Cmon. People often assume black people are older than they look, which is a universal experience for all of us. Did none of u ever see a blk teen who doesnt have a baby face? Because thats literally what hobie looks like to me. To others we can seem too "mature" for our age, or just look too "old" to be the age we say we are, so is it really impossible for him to be a teenager? Think about it.

The movies might be inspired from the comics, but not everything is going to be 100% the same. For exemple: gwen is 2 yrs older than Miles in the comics, but in movies she's only 15 months older, Jess Drew is white in the comics and black in the movie, Miguel O'hara is white passing in the comics, compared to his version in atsv where he has brown skin, lyla's disign is also different.

You get it? Things are going to differ as much as things are going to be the same, because (get ready!!) this is the multiverse! Just as earth-616 is just one universe in all the marvel comics, atsv is another universe.

All in all, im not saying u can't view them as adults, or wtv u want, thats ur interpretation, but don't go around being pissy at people around u cuz they have different point of views.

So after being in school alone with my thought, i wondered the question no one dared to ask, what is my friends daily account activity? Do they really hold up as dailies? How much dailies account even in there? Did brody cause 9/11? All those questions went trough my brain like wildfire, and after a very long 15 seconds of thinking i too the harduous task of finding every single daily accounts and using the power of MATH to see their overall activity.

so follow me on my little rambling as i see the RISE and FALL of the yttd daily community

So lets say some ground rule, when i mean activity i mean that the blog has posted adn actual daily blog post and not just talked or respounded to asks, so for example brocoli respounds to asks but he didn't post a daily since a certain time. Rule understood, okay okay.

First part of this task was to fin every single daily blogs and look their last posts, and this was the longest part for sure.

forget my very bad typos this was written in a moment of euphoria. What we can see from this is that there is 1 billion blogs actually but also that a ton of those blogs are in fact desactivated. THose which are classified as today are actually yesterday post i just was very lazy to change it.

Second phase was to put them all in different categories on a exel sheet to see the overal proportions and see the average of month since a last daily was posted.

as we can see there is no joke 53 FUCKING DAILY ACCOUNTS. But more importrantly about 16 of those accounts are either gone and dissapeared out of the face of the earth or they are simply stated as inactive by the daily in question. The second largest numbers are didn't post in 8 months and 4 months.

third part was to make a graphical illustration of my point, so i made a camembert.

so yeah i'm not gonna do a big study but its pretty clear that if we only consider daily accounts who posted today or this month as actual dailies then we can consider all the others as inactive dailies.

What was the point of this you might say? Well i wanted to prove my theories, first off most of those daily accounts were in fact born from the brody genesis, so when brody created his daily keiji account. It became a popular idea and everyone impulsively created accounts. The thing is that having a daily account is not some funny bussiness its extremely tiring and extremly difficult, and since most of the yttd community on tumblr are teens to young adults, we mostly have school to deal with. So keeping up with pace is pretty much impossible. Second my guess was that honestly all daily accounts would burn out in two months, and i was kinda right. Yes the graph seems to show that they lasted longuer, but actually, this doesnt count the time of inactivity in betwens or the long breaks. Most account burned out after 1 or 2 months which is pretty logical. LIke dailyshinai/rune burned out in two month for example.

I think the overral if we did a competion winners would be @rekofan101 who posted for a year straight and just terminated being a daily on their own account and janice/ @daily-dose-of-bucket who despite longs breaks are still posting. The dailies had an immense rise at one point but the fall was even harder slowly has the accounts and trend started to burn out. As someone who is on a dailies account i will say out of the maybe 30 blogs on it only lik 8 are actually active and only 1 post regularly.

This is isnt' at all a judgement or anything but its an interresting depictions of how waves of trends affect certains populations.

Tho if i had to give advices to make a daily account it would be:

-make it a weekly, more time better results last longuer

-don't do it alone perhaps do it with a friend and alternate betwen one another

-if you have adhd, a job, memory issues or overall issues that will make it evn more difficult for you to make an account a daily, i would consider not doing it, instead perhaps just do a regular fan account like me

i think people are too harsh on the apple and raven switched at birth theory. sure, people are not allowed to like it and i'm not against pointing out the flaws in it but i sort of think people are overly negative about it's flaws, and i hope that doesn't affect the creator. and i'm saying this as someone who doesn't agree with the theory and also heavily disagrees with it

first of all one of the takes ive seen is switched at birth would "destroy" the destiny themes of the show- to which i heavily disagree. i feel like if the writers added this revelation later on in the series if way too wonderland and dragon games didnt end the destiny arc it would point the flaws in the destiny system and change the relationship's the royals. both raven and apple's moms have one track mind and believe their destiny should be followed. it would be a massive revelation to the characters and affect their relationships. i dont think it would make all the "drama" useless considering how a lot of it stems from the culture of the fairytale world, and it would force the characters to really consider what the destiny system is. one of the biggest revelations it would be if the parents didnt know too somehow, and it was a mistake the doctors made and not intentional. (or even an ordinary citizen of bookend who was mad at the destiny system- just throwing ideas out) if the story suddenly went this way, i wouldnt like it but it doesnt feel impossible to be added to the ever after high story, given cerise and ramona's story being added late in the story or holly and poppy. i mean swapping two different babies compared to twins being born really close together is a huge reach- but still.

another thing i've seen is that because blond hair can be be recessive it disproves the theory. i understand the theory is mostly because of the hair colors of the characters not matching, but i dont really think this disprove it because it's really hard to dispute given how bare bones the theory is. many bad theories are intentionally or not intentionally difficult to disprove. i also thought, as far as i know never seeing both sets of parents even in an illustration for them is kind of suspicious to me. it would be interesting to see them focus on their family tree as well, but they didnt probably because that would kill the suspense of seeing these characters later on.

i do think this is a bad theory (its more of an idea than a theory), but an interesting story concept that could have even be considered for ever after high. i do think that its possible that this was an early idea for ever after high. consider the following: ever after high was in development for several years and wasnt even about fairytales at first, it was about witches. disney was even working on desendants as well. now part of me wonders if the reason that apple doesnt have black hair is because of disney and not wanting to make the characters too similar to disney's despite them having the well known versions of many characters. so they have to call back to the disney version (ex: adding yellow and gold in apple's design) without directly copying them. another thing that strikes me as interesting is that in one of the original versions of snow white she has "hair as black as ebony" yet in her future shown in the mirror we never see snow white in the future with the blonde turning into black hair. in fact its raven who undergoes more of a transformation. knowing how much ever after high uses the original source material of the original it's something to consider. another interesting thing to consider is the possibility if cerise was going to be more relevant this theme would make sense throughout the series, of inheriting a destiny that doesn't belong to you (i believe she was in the stop motion short) so with this i propose that it could have been considered at one point for the story, but didnt use it because it didnt work. another interesting idea is apple and raven not being switched, but being related somehow. like if the good king had a relationship with snow white but left her for evil queen and she had apple because of that. so apple and raven would be half sisters. again, not something i would want in canon but still interesting.

i know the original posters of these takes might disagree with me, but i feel like switched at birth- even though not a well carefully or thought out theory (literally just a "what if") can open up more discussions of the creative decisions on ever after high, and i feel like the community just going at this theory (as well as other communities going after theories that arent just "its not real") to me is sort of unproductive. ive seen too many takes on why it's stupid and i'm tired. i think the original creator, as far as i'm aware is a well read person who made one bad theory so when people say that it "lacks media literacy" i sort of get mad on their behalf, also hating that as a buzzword. so yeah, even though i think switched at birth is a "stupid" theory i think it's overcriticized in the fandom for being bad, when the concepts it has are really interesting outside of this theory. because the fact the ever after high designers made the child of snow white a blonde is very interesting from a design perspective because snow white is well known in many versions of her tale for having black hair. as well as the fact that ever after high was sort of mistreated by mattel and that affected the plot we were shown and how the fandom interacts with eah media. sorry if some people see this confession is just "people are too negative" but i do think people are blowing how bad this theory out of proportion. it's a bad theory with a lot of potential. i think this fandom in general has a lot of problems of overusing negative criticism and certain discussions becoming popular over others, like overfocusing on the selfishness of certain characters and whether or not apple (or raven) is a good or bad person objectively and arguing about it amongst each other instead of like... the larger actual story? i also think switched at birth would make a good AU and seeing what it would mean for their fairytales is so interesting. but not a good theory, no...

its very late rn but im going to explain this very quickly so i can go to bed since i didnt get to this ask until now

so basically, for one, the vast majority of animals are simply not capable of physically handling having sex with humans. their bodies are just not made for it. either theyre too small or differently shaped or for whatever reason, it will cause them a lot of pain and can be incredibly traumatic

for two, there is no way to 100% tell what an animal is feeling. an animal may be enjoying something, or it may not be- especially when it comes to sex, where the majority of animals get much more aggressive, which makes it even more difficult to tell what emotion the animal is trying to convey. even if you think that the animal wants this, it most likely doesnt (as ill explain in my next point), and you have no way to tell based exclusively on body language. there are no animals that are able to understand and communicate on the same level that humans can, which makes it impossible to consensually engage in sex

for three, the majority of animals do not want to mate with something that isnt the same species as them (with some exceptions, such as dolphins). for animals, mating is about producing offspring and that is the only point. animals want to mate with another animal that will produce the best offspring, they do not engage in sex for pleasure or out of love. because of that, they will not want to have sex with a human

for four, if you see a video or a post of an animal initiating sex with a human, that animal has been trained or otherwise forced to do that. many people claim that their animals "want to have sex with them", but that is simply not true. pets such as dogs learn to do things very easily if rewarded with treats and yelled at when they do something incorrectly- people teach their animals to have sex with them when the animal doesnt desire it the same way they teach their animals to stop barking even when the animal really wants to bark. however, teaching your animal to have sex with you is much, much worse, given the reasons i provided in earlier points

That actually is something I've enjoyed writing this series. Being able to recontextualize Stannis and connect some dots between the differences of the book and show character. Book Stannis is the man he started off as, show Stannis is the man events in hotgw turned him into. I can take what doesn't make sense about the show character, by reframing if through the relationship with the reader, same with Selyse.

Stannis tried raising you as a son, he wanted you to be a son and after you were born, Selyse lost 4 boys in the womb. Before Shireen was born, he didn't even know if he'd ever have another child. And so he tried raising you like an heir. Sending you to ward for another Highborn Lord as many do with their sons, giving you more of a Lords education and letting you fall slack on your more Lady lessons as you grew older because it was more benefical to him to teach you his way. He didn't bring you to Kings Landing like Ned did Arya and Sansa, just two girls getting to live and learn in the city. But training you alongside him to do a job women almost never do, and putting you in charge of things requiring you to earn the respect of the men around you.

But, you're still his daughter. He knows he has to marry you to a highborn family one day, and whatever children you will have there take priority over you inherited Dragonstone from him. He knows he is leaving you conflicted and lost and the presssure he puts on you is impossible to live up to as a woman.

Then Shireen comes along, and he can try again. Sure, he's distant from her off and on while he's in Kings Landing, but, he can keep you there and work in his stead while he visits Dragonstone and spend time with her. He doesn't raise her like a son, he lets her be his sweet daughter and doesnt put that pressure on her the way he knows is already crushing you.

At Shireen's age in those gifs, Stannis never sat down with you and talked about books and history and your opinions on those sorts of things. He was already piling lessons upon lessons on you to make sure you followed in his footsteps properly. You didn't have quiet one on one talks at that point, those hadn't happened since you were a little girl.

But he has them with Shireen, because he's raised her to have that chance to do so. And now that Shireen is gone, it's a difficult thing to realize that while you two don't hate each other and aren't enemies, he might have burned the bridge with you too far.

what's your opinion of the malenia fight? i know you've bodied her like totally so you have some actual insight but idr seeing if you ever spoke in depth about it

i kept going back and forth on it but at the end of the day i think i really like it, to me presentation has always mattered a slight bit more than actual gameplay when it comes to bosses in these games (which is part of why i love oceiros so much even tho that boss gameplay wise is meh at best and a janky mess at worst) and she soars in that regard, that transition cutscene is 👌👌👌

and i do actually enjoy the fight itself too, correctly reacting to her is extremely satisfying once you get the hang of how her ai works. my issues with her mostly come down to how big of an impact difference in rolling weight makes on her, an issue that has never really existed to a meaningful capacity on any prior boss. you are at a noticeable disadvantage if youre not lightrolling. not that mid rolling is like impossible or whatever but it will make several things she does more annoying. take her triple slash she does for example, if you dont roll into her at medium weight it will hit you, a problem that doesnt exist when lightrolling. her spirit attack in phase 2 also becomes significantly more difficult to avoid. and then ofc theres waterfowl. the only thing i actually dislike about it is that first hitbox. its stupid. i dont have a problem with moves that are difficult to dodge, thats a good and necessary thing in hard fights, the problem is that the way to avoid that first hit isnt even remotely intuitive and unless you get lucky yourself most people are just not gonna wanna bothering figuring out how youre actually supposed to avoid it without someone else showing them how, and i cant blame them. a lot of people greatly exaggerated how bad it (and malenia in general) is in the weeks and months following elden ring's release but that doesnt change the fact that the first hit is still kind of ridiculous

oh theres also the fact that she cheats and can for some reason just interrupt and armor through your punishes but that annoys me less as time goes on. its whatever. it happens infrequently enough that it doesnt really piss me off

but anyway shes fine, idk about being one of the best but ill admit my perspective is a little skewed thanks to the aforementioned frequent bodying lol

#okay this post got me heated for a sec but I'm good now#i think otoh if your training program doesnt train you to write for nonexperts then its shit#and OTOH the language we use is there for a reason#no one expects surgeons to explain their surgery in laymans terms because why the fuck would they?#the language is important the whole point of the discipline is to put words to the visual which IS DIFFICULT#that is why it is a whole discipline#there has to be a way to split the difference i agree#but i think saying 'art historians are obscure in their language and it alienates others' is true but also ignores the necessity of AH#as a discipline with its own language and codes FOR A REASON#and yes we get stuck in our ivory towers and yes so much theory is impenetrable to even people with higher degrees#and that is a problem that needs to be adressed#(along with our field's deep ties to old-money old-thought and nepotism of the same which is its own post)#and more outreach and accesibility work needs to be done esp for cultural institutions#but also no one is asking medical professionals to change the terminology they use in their journals#to cater to people without a medical degree#it is precise language needed for a precise purpose within a field of work#and it has its value for just such a reason

I understand where you're coming from, but it's a bit apples and oranges, and a very, very common issue in museums.

As an educator, my role is finding that happy medium between what curators want people to know in the language they use to explain it, and what the general public can be reasonably expected to absorb and understand. People don't ask medical professionals to not use jargon in a journal, but they do when the doctor is explaining what he is going to do to you, a normal person, during your surgery, and if he refuses that, he's an asshole. The museum likewise is not an academic journal, it is a place open to the general public. Specialized language is important and useful among peers, but the general public is not just made up of peers.

This is one reason why I actually love audio and app tours in concept because you can create layers of interpretation that allow people of different levels and interests to explore something. A museum label should state one or two things that are important or interesting about a piece, like a technique that was done very well or a story behind the subject, in simple terms that most people can understand at an eight grade reading level max. That's standard accessibility. In a perfect world you would allow the visitor to then explore the details through tours, qr codes, etc. That is the space for a specialized educator to do an academic deep dive or a simplified version for kids. But if your budget doesn't allow that you cannot decide that your core audience is other academics and write a novel on there using that language.

The sad truth about striving for accessibility is that it is impossible to make everyone happy, and accepting that is difficult. When I write a panel and have to cut down my hyperspecialized rambling to a hundred words, yeah, it's painful. And I know that regardless of what I do, there are going to be people who know a lot about the subject who leave unhappy because they view that as "dumbing down" the subject. I also know that there will be other people for whom my words are still too confusing for them. That was a bit of rant and I hope I didn't come across as harsh; I did not mean it that way.

The fine art world has such a huge problem with accessability. The vast majority of writing surrounding or about fine art is written in a way that requires you to have a degree in art to understand or parse it fully. Most didactic panels (the panel next to an artwork in a gallery that describes the piece) are written in this voice you pick up in university to make your work sound more grandiose or enigmatic. Most theory books you’ll run across are built off referential language (often with no definition) from other theory books. They’ll use words with clear common definitions but use it in a specific unique way that either only them or another author has used the word in. Its this incredibly restrictive way of writing that i think keeps people away from the art world. For the average person its probably pretty impenetrable to pick up a roland barthes book (it is too for us inside the art world too). It feels like a lot of writing around art is built in this way that its specifically constructed to be challenging to read or follow. Which for me as someone with processing issues its a nightmare to get through a book even though i love theory. Its a matter of re-reading almost every sentence 2-5 times before it sorta clicks or i have to just move on and hope for something that contextualizes it better further in.

The fine art world just isnt made with people with processing issues or learning disabilities in mind. I can only imagine what its like for people who speak english as a second or third language. And its a real shame because theres so much great things that are then barred to those people because its too obnoxious to even begin trying to parse. I really believe artists should take it upon themselves to write as if someone whos never once stepped foot in a gallery is going to read their didactic panel or book. Its a problem academia produces and i really don’t have much of a solution for that but its something i try to be conscious of.

I don't want to be a intruder, but after i put the vaccine my period stop and i started to have some hormonal imbalances. and i started to pay attention to my cycle and I realice a couple of things:

i really was stress out, thats the reason why my period stop at that time.

i start to pay attention to what I eat

and i start to do some exercise, theres is an app that works for me i dont follow trough because my schedule doesnt allowe me to be consistance but its 28.co and it helps me a lot with my cycle, hormones even my weight.

I agree month it's the opposite my periods can go up to 18 days, I empty myself completely. But I watch what I eat, I bring more fruit and vegetables, I really make myself 3 meals (currently, it's difficult because of my financial problems) I do heart exercises, I must admit that I stopped for 6 days. I'm calmer because I'm on half-time therapy and I made it clear to the new team that I'm not here to manage you, you're big enough. I put up real barriers. I noticed that I back 1H to 1H30 more. My body really needs more rest than usual.

I walk, I can't run or do exercises because I have very violent uterine contractions (they can prevent me from walking) last week I stayed 2 days in a row lying in my bed impossible for me to do physical exertion

I looked and it didnt seem like anyone addressed this point so i cant help but step in with some more context here!

All of the replys urging people to shop locally and in garment districts are absolutely right, everyone should do that! Stop giving you money to Big Joann TM and find a craft store near you! But it seems to have missed us that the Reason for doing that isnt finding ethically sourced fabric. Buying offcuts by the pound is not at all supporting ethical production (i know that no one is claiming this specifically - dont do a hostile read here give me a chance lol).

Supporting local business is great! Full stop! But the fabric youre buying there was produced in the exact same sweatshops in indonesia, china, india, and pakistan that go to shein workshops to be made into disposable, single-use garments. The pay, working conditions, etc. are not going to be any more ethical or sustainable.

However by making your own crafts (even if you get the materials from aliexpress!) you are eliminating at least one stage from the cannibalistic ourobouros that is late-stage capitalism, and youre making sure that at least one unethical company (in this case jewelry so claires? Forever21? Where are the kids buying theire nonsense nowadays ?) is not profiting off of your purchasing power, and you are not participating in their control over the system as a whole.

Tragically, clothing/fashion/fabric production is the quinticencial example of that memefrom the good place where they conclude that there is No ethical consumption under modern day capitalism. There are simply too many stages in development, and we have globalized them so thoroughly that if you arent purchasing from a company that publically documents every single stage in production (which i have had yet to find anywhere close to my price range) Because otherwise its impossible to be sure there wasnt slave labor in there Somewhere.

Where was the cotton/linen/wool farmed? How were the materials shipped? How was the fiber spun? And then shipped again? What was the fiber blended with? How was it woven/knit? Was it crocheted? (Because we currently do not have a mechanical process for crochet! If you purchase a crochet garmet, it was done by hand! Entirely!)

What about the dye process? How about the environmental regulations around dye manufacturers and fabric dyers? How could it have potentially contributed to pollution or to adverse health affects for workers?

Then, and only then, can we get to the problems with shein-style clothing manufacturing.

The attention paid to the conditions of fast-fashion production is disproportionately given to this final stage in the process (not that it doesnt require our attention - obviously the conditions are inhumane, unsustainable, and just wrong in every ssense of the word). But when youre asking the question, where can i/should i look to buy ethical materials for my craft work, it is extraordinarily difficult to aswer even one of the questions from above.

I have a lot of different political/economic opinions from the author of this book (i am a communist, she is an American economist sooooo….) but she gives an amazing overview of the timeline of fast fashion production, and its economic history. So if youre at all interested in exploring that i do really reccomend this:

The point of this was not for me to be super discouraging though! I do not want to discount the power that making your own clothes, thrifting, or buying locally has! All of those things are incredibly significant - it takes money out of the ourborous that is H&M and gives it to your neighbor, or local shopkeeper. What it doesnt do (necessarily) is take it out of the cannibalistic system entirely.

But there isnt a way for us, with our personal purchasing power, to do that. Instead we must use our political power to continue the ongoing campaign to force political bodies to regulate international companies like Shein, like H&M, like forever21. To prevent human rights violations and promote labor rights internationally.

One of the more interesting sections of that book was where the author interviewed a garment worker, surprised by the fact that she repeatedly purchased clothes made in the same sweatshops she was forced to work 16-18 hour days in. To us westerners, that is a very reasonable question! The concept of the ethical ramifications of individual purchasing power is very entrenched here. But the garment worker was taken aback that the author would even think to ask her that - because her individual purchasing decisions mean nothing in the grand scheme!

Companies have successful diverted the blame from themselves, and their deeply unethical business practices, to us! Theyre saying “well youre the one who buys this stuff! Its all of your fault! If you want the people who made it to be paid more than 10 cents a hour, go buy shit from somewhere else!”

And then theyve made it so that “somewhere else” is not only owned by them, so they can keep their profit margins the same, but often literally produced side by side, in the same exact factory, and just given different packaging down the line. And so many of these damn companies own each other that its impossible for the average joe to work out all the red tape, and so Big Joann TM continues to take my money, time and time again.

Basically, just do whatever you can, wherever you are, and support labor rights everywhere, in all cases, without exception. (Except cops fuck those motherfuckers they dont count as labor).

And distrust/discount any label on a fiber based product that claims ethicallity until doing Extensive research to prove their claims. No saying it doesnt exist! Just saying that the standard is extremely hard to reach under current conditions.

Anyway if anyone has made it this far i hope you have a lovely day and craft to your hearts content and dont let Big Joann TM make you feel bad for being unable to afford to buy solely entirely “ethical” materials. They dont really exist, and its not your fault for being poor. Big Joann TM likes it that way.

i have a question. is it reasonable if i expect to have one therapist who is atheist-friendly (i live in a country where atheism is illegal), queer-friendly (queerphobia is the norm here. rainbow capitalism won't work because people will boycott that product instead), nd-friendly (genius stereotype of autistic kids doesnt even exist here; only the non-verbal ones and even then it's super derogatory)? i might be able to find one that only fits one of those criteria (even tho it's still gonna be real hard because i don't live in the capital city), but if i want to seek out someone who fits all three criteria (and a lot of other criterias that i can't all mention here because i have too many ongoing problems) then it feels kinda impossible to be honest

anyway. i'm just curious whether this expectation even makes sense in western countries? i've kinda given up on finding one that fits me very specific needs, and thus i decided i can't go to a professional anyway because if even one of those criteria isn't fulfilled then i won't feel safe to tell my story. but does such a person exist in developed countries, or am i expecting something impossible? for the record, i can't afford to try out several different therapists until i find one that fits. aside from financial concerns, one wrong move can cost me my life in this country

From what you've told me, I don't know if expecting an atheist, queer, & nd-friendly therapist is reasonable. Even if the therapist was open to those things, it sounds like the culture where you live wouldn't make it necessarily safe for the therapist to communicate this to you. I am also concerned that if you voice your thoughts and opinions on these things, you will not be safe. You know your country and culture better than I do, so please act safely.

None of that means you do not deserve to have your story heard. You are not the problem here, and I know how much it hurts and how alone it can feel when you don't feel safe coming to others for help. It's not your fault.

Even in Canada, where I live, it's not guaranteed to find a therapist who isn't ableist, anti-atheism, homophobic, etc. Sometimes it takes a few meetings with a few different therapists to find one that works for you and is not bigoted. Bigger cities have more options, definitely, but there are definitely many places where finding a therapist like the one you seek would be difficult. However, to answer your question, yes, one could expect to eventually find a therapist who isn't bigoted and is instead open-minded and non-judgemental.

Please don't give up. You deserve help and you deserve to feel safe around the person helping you. I'm sorry that things are like that where you are.

I suggest looking into online communities for now so you can get some support. Don't be afraid to join discords or use apps that may help. You are not alone. Please know that things won't always be like this.

i'm just super nervous about asking about it because i know very little about it. but like idk it seems like a possibility i should explore, but I don't even know if the info i do have is true and i'm scared of barging into a space i don't belong

tbh its really hard to self identify a system by design. you have to consider what it is and why you have it- a dire means your brain takes to break off pieces of yourself to contain childhood trauma within so that you can still function baseline. its by definition something thats really hard to confront or grasp bc its all about repression and divvying up things that would make it difficult to impossible for you to function. this is called a covert system, and some systems Stay that way. theyre functional, either without defined alters, or with alters that stealth and keep things smoothed over.

that said, there are flags you can look for. when youre triggered, how do you process it? do you feel depersonalized? not like yourself, or even not able to reflect on what happened even if you felt cognizant AS it happened? some people black out entirely when an alter fronts, leaving black hole memory gaps, but for me its more of a grey out; like im aware as things happen but in retrospect my memory of it is VERY fuzzy or nonexistent. i know where the time went, but i cant remember anything specific about it. i also feel a bit like im being puppeted around, esp bc none of my alters communicate the same way i do. (ie bentley is pretty harsh w a thick twang, shy is nonverbal, arthur is deep voice king autism, etc).

in my experience, my system didnt become more overt until several years out from living with any of my family, and with only relatively shitty things going on in my life. i felt safe in my environment and so my brain settled in and began unpacking things that i had previously been too busy in a survival mentality to be able to handle. bentley kinda shambled forward after a few days of feeling really out of it and our relationship went from there. lo says he thinks my role in the system is as a protector (which makes sense ig) so it was really difficult for me to talk about it for a good couple months bc i felt like i needed to keep it hush hush to myself & safe. its VERY hard to reach a point of confidently proclaiming you have a system by virtue of it WANTING to be covert. having a support system of friends really made the difference for me, i think.

as far as getting in touch with yourself, there are a few things you can try; art has been a big way for my alters to express themselves through something i enjoy doing, so finding something to bond over could be good. journaling often, leaving up little notes for yourself, or maybe pulling threads you feel compelled to follow (clothes you wouldnt normally wear, a strikingly specific character design, a comfort xyz that you dont necessarily vibe with, specific music that makes your brain buzz) have also all been pretty noteworthy i think.

idk at the end of the day i think if you feel like you have some kind of disturbance like that, you probably do. it might not necessarily be alters, or a system, but trauma can have a really wide range of effects on your brain and theres a spectrum of ways it can manifest. if this one is compelling you to dig into it, then you should i think! its not like youre taking resources out of other peoples mouths, it really doesnt work like that.

I.

Marcus Lopez Arguello couldn’t remember the last time he paid attention to the world around him.

He noticed thunderstorms and sunshine, knew when it was cold enough to snow. Saw the leaves begin to change from bright, leafy greens to honey gold and russet red. Of course he saw these things. He simply stopped caring about little happenings when Reagan killed his parents.

The last memory he had of a sunset . . . he couldn’t remember.

And he still couldn’t, even with the one painting the sky right before his eyes. Because when it was transforming into a radiant Monet as the sun descended down, down, down below the skyline, then the harbor -

The only place that held his attention was you.

You, with a smile that tugged the corners of your lips up towards your eyes. Eyes that reflected the deep violets melting into vibrant magentas and swirling with heavenly golden clouds. You, standing next to him in awe at the raw beauty this world had to offer for no cost but your time.

The air had become tinted with that specific shade of pastel pink, and Marcus had to catch his breath. His chest tightened, hands began to shake just enough to be noticed. He shoved them in his pockets so you wouldn’t see.

He would trade all the sunsets in the world just to feel your lips against his own. He would do it in a heartbeat.

II.

This time, it’s different.

Power outages darkened the city, torrential rain threatened to flood the streets, shutting down trains and buses, and no, don’t even think about walking. Wind came alive to uproot small trees and gift certain people with wings. It rattled the glass of Lost Innocence Comics right inside of its frames.

You and Marcus were soaked to the bone after stepping outside to just get a look down the street.

Great, he groaned, slamming his head against the locked door. The C L O S E D sign rattled against the glass. We’re fucking stuck here.

In front of him, the clouds changed from heather gray to deep navy and, within minutes, they were almost midnight black. It began to look like night had come to call early.

“Think we can find some candles around here?”

“Uh,” Marcus scrambled to collect himself, turned to face you in the fading light. “Who knows, there’s all kinds of shit in back.”

An eyebrow raised in curiosity. “Lead the way, then.”

Thunder rumbled low and followed you into the small storeroom. It was all damp concrete and chaos and muted rainfall past the small window lodged into the far wall.  Bright, violent flashes of lightning accompanied scavenged flashlight beams as you scored a box of matches. Marcus balanced the half-burned pillars he found on a stack of inventory crates to breathe the treasured warmth of fire into the darkness.

Your chilled bones didn’t complain, either.

Flickers of flame danced across you both, the silence slowly growing thick with that special sort of tension. The kind that was only present when something big was about to happen, or when no one had anything left to lose. It would have become overwhelming, but then – then. You were closer to each other than you had been before. Closer than the moment that had just passed. Maybe it was the sharp crack of thunder that made your heart beat faster when his lips were drawing so close to yours -

A bright, harsh light filled the room and you both jerked apart.

The power kicked back on, and the worst of the storm had passed.

III.

Things were different after Vegas.

Distant, secretive, hushed.

A fog followed them around like a phantom that thrived on fear, and fear alone. The friends who came back were not the same people who left the day before, not really. Those mere hours seemed to age them years, decades, eons.

Maybe it was smart that you bailed on them with Willie. You wondered if the abandonment of their two friends led to their downfall.

That was the thing about King’s Dominion - death clung to it’s students like a cloak one could never shed. You didn’t always want to rush off to meet danger at it’s doorstep when you didn’t have to. There was value in a quiet, comfortable weekend spent in your room, thank you very much. So you turned them down.

But that was the thing.

There was no such thing as comfort in a place like King’s, in a life that trained the next generation of assassins. It felt detached somehow, the reality that there were no safety nets, no promise of a life growing old, no promise of even growing at all. Comfort, ease, dreams – those ceased to exist the day anyone walked through those monstrous front doors.

Marcus forgot that too, sometimes.

Vegas reminded him that life was so impossibly fleeting, invincibility certainly did not exist, and there was no fucking time to live safely when there was nothing safe about life in the first place. When all you really had were ghosts that didn’t yet exist, and nightmares of the ghosts already born from your own making.

When San Francisco greeted them in the early morning sunlight, Marcus Lopez Arguello found himself heading straight to your dorm.

I almost died, he greeted you with tired eyes and a rough voice. Like. Five fucking times.

He watched as your eyes drifted over his silhouette propped against the door frame, all bruised and bloody boy. You expected nothing less at this point.

“But you didn’t.” came your reply.

“No,” he said. You were so close that it had gotten difficult to breathe – and, no, it wasn’t because of his bruised ribs. Probably. “I didn’t die.”

The unspoken ‘yet’ hung in the air, the elephant in your room.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t with-”

The dam inside Marcus cracked, hitched, broke.

There wasn’t a universe where he would allow you to apologize for something he had no right to ask for in the first place. No universe where he would allow death to take him home before he did the small things. The important things.

The kind of things that almost dying in an alleyway dumpster in Las Vegas made him realize mattered.

He kissed you, and you kissed him back.

It was hesitant, at first. All soft lips and warm breath questioning if this was real, if this was happening, if maybe Marcus really was dead after all. Then passion crept in, the comfort of his arms wrapped around you, your hands threaded through his hair, his own pulled you closer and closer and closer.

He was so very much alive, with a pounding heartbeat to prove it. With your skin grazing his, with your breath in his lungs. For the first time in a long time, he was so very grateful to be alive.
