I just wanted to properly explain something: I alternate letting reader input fully control the narrative (i.e. during votes or "What will you do?" prompts) and following those decisions up on my own. That's not to say that I want people to stop sending in replies with character actions outside of the designated times - they still let me see what the audience mood is like and get inspiration for the future - I just want everyone to know what to expect

My 3-day California vacation (8/30-9/1). This was my first time seeing Disneyland during its Halloween event so I got to see the fireworks (and my aunt got me a holographic Snow White card). But of course, Santa Cruz is the one I have an entire essay’s worth of paragraphs about. We stopped by Pismo Beach on the way and it was already almost 6PM by the time we reached our motel. We went to the comic store and sadly I didn’t see Joe there, but I did still get a Vampires Everywhere! replica, a “Santa Carla” sticker and 2 Atlantis Dollars. After dinner at the food court we finally went to the boardwalk, where I rode the carousel for the first time. The last photo contains everything I got minus the DL bucket hat and the bootleg water game from PB.

Ace Attorney’s Weird Manslaughter = Murder Misconception

I saw a lot of positive feedback on that ace attorney death penalty analysis post I made a while back, and I’ve been wanting to add more onto that for some time. So here goes :D

“Even accidental murder is murder, you know.”

Because of this stupid line, this causes a lot of people to believe that manslaughter doesn’t exist in the Ace Attorney universe. However, let me tell you, that is false!

First of all, self defense is a real plea in this universe. It’s been brought up in cases 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, 2-2, 3-5, and I1-5 as well. They’ve established that if someone killed to defend themselves, then they don’t get punished for it.

Now, you’re probably thinking “but what about Dee Vasquez? She acted in self-defense and got punished for it.” You have a point. This is something that makes people believe that manslaughter isn’t real in Japanifornia. However, she didn’t do herself any favours by trying to frame someone else for her accidental killing, tried keeping all her staff members quiet about it, tampered with the crime scene, forged evidence, and threatened to kill Phoenix and Maya by mafia members in order to escape her mistake. If she didn’t do all those things, she really wouldn’t have been charged with anything. She just acted too irrationally.

Next off, we have Yanni Yogi. Even though he wasn’t the culprit in the DL-6 Incident, Robert Hammond defended his case by claiming that he was “mentally unsound.” This is a claim that’s reserved for voluntary manslaughter. You know? The thing that apparently “doesn’t exist” according to our fandom??

Voluntary manslaughter is a charge for a person who cannot be found guilty of murder due to provocation or mental incapacity. Some people do serve time for it, but it’s not nearly as severe as a murder sentence.

Back to Yogi, his life was still ruined after winning that trial, but that’s because it was such a huge incident. He was extremely unlucky that he had to be the one who got blamed for the controversial incident. It doesn’t help his case that he ended up murdering Robert Hammond 15 years later.

Now to Ema Skye. Although it’s established that she didn’t kill anyone, it was mentioned that she could’ve potentially killed in self-defense. She was held hostage by Joe Darke, who was a serial killer. Neil Marshall came in to save her, then the power went out. Not being able to tell who’s who, Ema pushed away the man holding the knife, which turned out to be Neil Marshall. If that turned out horribly wrong for her, then she would receive the self-defense plea. Phoenix even said himself that it’s “self-defense” and that “she wouldn’t be charged with anything.” Which again, proves my point that manslaughter is real.

Next we have Maya Fey, or rather Mimi Miney. It was brought up at the beginning of the trial that it would be easy to make a case that it was self-defense, because Dr. Grey fired a shot at Maya (who was actually Mimi). That plea will not work for Mimi because she planned on killing Dr. Grey ever since he wanted to channel her spirit. She also framed Maya and tampered with the evidence on top of that. If it were Maya in that situation, then the self-defense plea would work, because she had no murderous intent.

Next, Godot is pretty self-explanatory. His true goal was to protect Maya, and he succeeded, despite it not going according to plan. Phoenix mentioned that “it’s not simply killing Misty Fey, you were saving a life!” Or something along those lines. His circumstances are different and fall under the voluntary manslaughter charge. He can’t be charged with murder due to provocation, mental incapacity, and the fact that both his and Maya’s lives were in danger. Not only that, he wasn’t even the person who brought any weapons with him; all he brought was some coffee, cream and sugar. Misty Fey brought a sword out of her own volition. His mental incapacity made him question his own motives, but it doesn’t change the fact that he ultimately saved Maya’s life. (Also silly little side note, I think him killing someone to save another’s life should just cancel out his punishment 🤭 What he’s been through is already punishment enough. But I digress—)

Next, self-defense was briefly mentioned in case I1-5. It’s hard to remember details because it’s such an extremely long case, but I do remember the culprit claimed that he can’t be charged with anything because he was brutally attacked and he faught back. It’s another scenario that proves manslaughter is real. But in this person’s case, his story wasn’t exactly true, so he got charged for murder anyway. Extraterritorial rights be damned!

So now you see I’ve explained many different instances where self-defense and manslaughter is a real thing in the ace attorney universe. So I find it completely absurd that several characters in this series believe that manslaughter is the same as murder. Even some of the lawyers believe that!

What’s my explanation for this?

They’re stupid and don’t understand the difference, that’s all. A lot of characters in this series think and act on stupid things, so it’s not far-fetched to believe that lawyers don’t know how the law works.

Hermit Head-cannons

Hello! I've been wanting to share some of my hermitcraft head-cannons and seen @silly-st4rrr was wanting to see some. So, thank you to them for giving me a reason to share. <3

General Head-cannons:

Hybrid hermits can morph forms on command or intentionally keep certain parts of each form on them at all times. However, they can also morph or go into full form involuntarily from things like nightmares, flashbacks, or just being around similar creatures for too long.

All mammal hybrids must get vaccinations yearly.

Hybrids can form in a number of ways. Some formed from contact with a creature’s DNA, some are born with the form, while others have been. . . magically infused with a form.

Traffic life victors recall all memories and emotions and trauma from the games. Non-victors recall major parts and major emotions, however, forget most of what happened.

When someone perma-dies in the games, they are immediately teleported back to hermitcraft/empires.

All worlds are connected via void, however, can be traversed via rifts, portals, teleporting, and through a main hub with shopping areas. (how do you think hermits get new clothes?)

Group/duo head-cannons:

Pearl and Grian were inseparable the first week she was on the server.

Hermit Parent Club (HPC): Doc, Keralis, Joe Hills, Impulse, Skizz, Tango, Bdubs, and Beef (newest member) meet once every 2 months.

Gem, Pearl, and Mumbo will make up problems for when anyone in the Hermit Parent Club needs to feel parental.

Mumbo still wants a tower building rematch with Gem, who refuses to give him one.

Boatem still has sleepovers together monthly.

Scar and Pearl have an avoidance of chorus fruit and refuse to explain why to Grian.

It is now a rule that the ZITS crew must take a minimum of iron armor to ‘naked whatever raiding’.

Mumbo and Pearl will secretly eat red-stone torches together. Mumbo is the supplier.

Joe will supply Mumbo with redstone when he needs it. (He doesn't ask why he needs it.)

Doc and Ren have been trying to create the perfect dog treat. Problem is neither of them can bake.

Pearl and Bdubs will confide in each other on days where they feel too tall/short.

Afab hermits meet for Ladies Night at least once a month.

Bdubs and Scar still call Cleo 'Mom' from time to time.

Cleo and Pearl will talk about the games and how they wish things could have been different in DL.
