The influence of conformity & gender stereotypes on the characters of Stranger Things but also on US (the general audience)
The moment I stumbled upon the arguments of "anti-Byler," the most commonly cited one was their outright denial of heteronormative pressures and societal expectations that are instilled in us from a young age. These same dynamics influenced Mike and the other characters in Stranger Things. This realization brought to mind a personal childhood anecdote that illustrates this phenomenon perfectly.
I must have been around ten years old because I remember this happening on the bus ride home from a school trip to watch Ratatouille. At the time, I had recently befriended a boy in my class—we had been seated next to each other, which gave us more opportunities to talk than when I’d usually stick with my girlfriends during recess while he played soccer with the boys. (Just describing this setup already paints a clear picture of gender stereotypes and heteronormativity, even though this was in 2007—25 years after 1982, to put things into perspective.)
When I say we had grown closer, I mean that two kids had developed a friendship: we laughed together, enjoyed each other’s company, and simply got along well. But I vividly remember sitting face-to-face with Maximilien—yes, I suddenly recalled his name as I was writing this! Maximilien, with his freckles and ginger hair—and we were laughing and talking about the movie. At one point, I playfully held two strands of his hair between my fingers, pretending to guide him like Rémy from Ratatouille.
It was then that I noticed, just behind Maximilien's smiling face, my classmates observing us from the next row. They were whispering and giggling, their glances unmistakably filled with mischief. I immediately understood what they were thinking. Later that day, they confronted me, insisting, “You’re in love with Maximilien!”
I felt embarrassed and awkward. But the truth is, before their remarks, the idea hadn’t even crossed my mind. To me, Maximilien was simply a friend, someone I enjoyed spending time with. It wasn’t until my friends planted that seed of doubt that I began to question my feelings. For the rest of the school year, I convinced myself I had a crush on him.
Looking back, this memory perfectly encapsulates how deeply societal conditioning affects us, even as children. At ten years old, we were already internalizing heteronormative narratives from our peers, advertisements, media, movies, and TV shows. Everything around us reinforced the notion that if a boy and a girl were close, they had to be more than friends.
This anecdote resurfaced in my mind recently, and it struck me how pervasive this conditioning was—even in 2007, when societal attitudes had already progressed somewhat compared to the 1980s. Now imagine how amplified this must have been in the '80s, which sheds light on the behaviors of Lucas, Dustin, and Nancy (and others by the way) in Stranger Things.
These three characters—Lucas, Dustin, and Nancy—each insinuated that Mike had romantic feelings for El based solely on his acts of kindness and care for her. It becomes much easier to understand their reactions when you realize they were operating under the same heteronormative assumptions that shaped our childhoods. After all, didn’t we all have our own versions of Lucas and Dustin who convinced us we were in love with our Maximilien or El?
Before Lucas’s heteronormative remark, Mike had done nothing more than show empathy for El—protecting her and taking care of her after she told him she was being hunted by “bad men” and that her life was in danger. Mike’s actions stemmed from compassion and the fact that she had information about Will’s disappearance, not romantic interest. Their interactions were simply those of two kind-hearted kids getting to know each other, with Mike admiring her powers (like any kid fascinated by superheroes) and El being drawn to Mike’s stable family life—a concept foreign to her.
But then Lucas planted that tiny seed: “If you’re this nice to her, you must be in love with her.” From that point on, Mike started behaving more timidly around El, his perception of their interactions skewed by Lucas’s words. Dustin reinforced this by accusing Mike of neglecting their friendship because of El, which was a childish and reductive observation considering the circumstances. Nancy, too, perpetuated this when she directly asked Mike, “You like El?” after he inquired about her feelings for Jonathan.
All these comments were rooted in internalized heteronormativity—small seeds planted in Mike by his friends, just as their families, communities, and society had once planted similar seeds in them.
The result? Mike simply conformed to what he thought he was supposed to feel. If everyone said he loved El, then he must love her, right? So he invited her to the Snow Ball and kissed her—because that’s what he believed he was “meant” to do. After all, she had superpowers like the heroes he admired, and as a bullied, insecure boy who often felt powerless, her attention gave him a sense of validation. She needed him, depended on him, and he felt useful and in control by taking care of her.
At the same time, he barely knew her—they’d only spent a week together, and beyond the immediate crisis and her love of Eggo waffles, there wasn’t much else he understood about her. Still, this fleeting connection gave him emotional and psychological comfort during Will’s disappearance and presumed death—a situation where he felt utterly helpless.
All of this resulted in Mike simply doing what he thought he was supposed to feel and do: "If everyone says I love her, then I must love her, right? So let's invite her to the dance and kiss her! Besides, she has powers like my favorite superheroes—that's pretty cool for a bullied boy who looks like a frog, isn't it? If she's interested in me, wouldn’t that prove I'm normal after all? Plus, she depends on me, she needs me, she's lost without me, and I have to take her under my wing. I feel useful taking care of her! It's only been seven days since I met her, so honestly, apart from the urgent situation we're in, I know almost nothing about her except that she likes waffles. But at least, during this week, we needed each other, and emotionally and psychologically, it helped me cope with the disappearance and presumed death of my best friend—a friend who vanished after leaving my house, where I feel 100% powerless to protect or save him. Having some sense of control by taking care of El, who clearly needs me, might just be my way of projecting? Also, she looks like a boy with her short hair, and she was mistaken for Will three times throughout the season—what a coincidence!"
I also noticed that in Season 4, the Duffer Brothers repeatedly wrote into the script how Robin and Steve are often mistaken for a couple by others. This happens because people don’t know Robin is a lesbian, but more importantly, because they can’t comprehend how Robin and Steve can be so close, so in sync, and have such incredible chemistry without being romantically involved. And yes, it’s absolutely possible—some people can be your soulmate without being in a romantic relationship with you. In fact, there are relationships that are healthier and more balanced as friendships rather than as romantic partnerships, and the people involved often realize this themselves. This doesn’t diminish the genuine love they have for each other. They love each other, they don’t want to lose one another, it’s just not romantic. It doesn’t take away from the strength or depth of the bond they share—it’s simply a different kind of love for a different kind of relationship.
This dynamic becomes even more compelling when you consider how heteronormativity shaped not only Mike’s understanding of his feelings but also everyone else’s perceptions of their relationship. Like Lucas, Dustin, and Nancy, we’ve all been influenced by these societal norms, projecting them onto others and perpetuating them, often without even realizing it.

Was wondering if you’d be willing to write something about how Steve has a picture of his girl in his wallet or a modern au where it’s his lockscreen <3
my everything
pairing: steve harrington x f! reader
a/n: this is SO cute i love it!!!
Tumblr media
the summer sun was setting over hawkins, casting long shadows across the familiar streets. you and steve had just finished a much-needed ice cream date at scoops ahoy, now free from its previous russian spy drama, and were walking hand in hand through the park. the evening was warm and the air filled with the sounds of kids playing and birds chirping. it was a rare moment of peace in the chaos that seemed to have enveloped your lives lately.
as you both settled on a bench by the lake, steve reached into his pocket to pull out his wallet. "i almost forgot," he said, a boyish grin spreading across his face. "i promised robin I'd pay her back for covering my shift last week."
you watched as he fumbled through the various receipts and bills, the leather of his wallet worn and familiar. a small photograph slipped out, fluttering to the ground at your feet. you bent down to pick it up, curiosity piqued. when you turned it over, your breath caught in your throat.
it was a picture of you. taken at the snowball dance when you and steve were chaperoning, your smile bright and eyes shining. you remembered that night vividly - how you’d both mothered all the kids, and how steve had held you close, the world around you fading into a blur as you danced together.
"you keep a picture of me in your wallet?" you asked softly, looking up at him with a mix of surprise and tenderness.
steve glanced down, a slight blush creeping up his cheeks. he ran a hand through his hair nervously. "uh, yeah," he admitted, his voice a bit shy. "i guess i never told you."
your heart swelled with affection. "why didn’t you?"
steve shrugged, looking a little sheepish. "i don't know. it just felt... i don't know, kinda cheesy? but i wanted to have a piece of you with me, all the time. reminds me of what's important, especially when things get crazy."
you felt tears prick at the corners of your eyes, overwhelmed by the sweetness of his gesture. "steve, that's... that's the most romantic thing anyone's ever done for me."
he looked at you, eyes filled with warmth and love. "well, you mean everything to me," he said simply. "i just wanted to make sure i never forgot that, even for a second."
you reached out, cupping his face in your hands, your thumbs gently tracing his cheekbones. "i love you so much stevie," you whispered, leaning in to kiss him softly. the kiss was tender, a promise of all the love and commitment you shared.
when you pulled back, you slipped the photo back into his wallet, right where it belonged. "thank you for always thinking of me," you said, your voice filled with emotion.
steve smiled, his hand finding yours and giving it a reassuring squeeze. "always," he replied. "you're my girl."
as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the world in a soft, golden glow, you rested your head on steve's shoulder, feeling his arm wrap around you. the worries of the world seemed distant in that moment, and all that mattered was the love you shared.

There is a report of auto theft and a robbery at a general store and Hopper is over it. Nothing happens in this town and then two crimes in one night.
Steve Harrington put in a report that his car was stolen, but his neighbors that saw it happen said that he got in the car, along with Eddie Munson, Jonathan Byers, Nancy Wheeler, and two others.
Another eye whiteness said Robin Buckley also got in the car as well.
The owner of the shop said a bunch of kids came into the shop with a ruckus. Nancy Wheeler came up to him with a problem, something about an allergy, but by the time she left, all the kids were getting into the car with bags of food.
They were gone before he could yell at them.
Hopper sent out word for 5 arrests, a warning for a 6th, and went on his normal drive around town/smoke break.
And the cherry on top, Flo radioed Hopper about a car parked on the side of the road by the woods called in for “suspicious activity”, so now he has to deal with that bullshit. He knows it's probably some teenagers, which he really does not want to deal with, but he goes anyways.
He pulls up to the location and it's the maroon beemer the Harrington boy called in. He radios in and asks if they got all the teenagers for the warrant, which they do, and asks for some back-up.
They go hiking through the woods, following the footprints, and find themselves near Hopper’s little cabin and he investigates.
There's new garbage on the floor in the cabin and hopper pulls out his gun. Inside one of the bedrooms, there are people sleeping.
“Hawkins police!”
They all get up and look alarmed, and Hopper is pissed because the station obviously can't have Steve Harrington, Johnathan Byers, Nancy Wheeler, Eddie Munson, and Robin Buckley when they’re staring right back at him. Not to mention the 6th long-haired hippie that matched the description the store clerk gave. He arrests them for theft and trespassing and are all ushered down to the police station for questioning.
They're all strangely quiet.
Back at the station, some of the police officers look at them like they’ve grown three heads and Hopper just rolls his eyes because yeah, the officers tasked with the arrests are now caught and in the dog house.
He walks Steve Harrington, because he’s the strongest, into the precinct and sets him in the holding room when he stops.
Because there, in the shitty holding cell, is another, cleaner looking Steve Harrington, and scattered across the cell are the other teenagers, sans the long haired hippy, staring in shock right back at them.
“What the fuck?”

I Look Like Her…
Tumblr media
(Summary: you and Henry are 011 real parents. Henry not knowing but, 011 reminds him of you..)
Masterlist Request info
(Part 2 of Like her!) Part 1: Like Her
(Warnings: NOT Proofread, Subtle dark situations, bad writing! Typical Stranger Things themes., Think that’s it?)
‘I Look Like Her…’
———————
"Do I look Like her?" 011 asked, looking at Brenner.
Brenner paused trying to remember what you looked like. "Well yes. I suppose. Why do you ask?"
"He always talked about her and..." 011 paused her eyebrows furrowing sadly. Like yours did.. "That day w-when I set him free he said that I looked like her.."
....
"But then a woman that I had never seen before had showed up. It turned out Papa forced her to work here too. She was trapped just like I was..." Henry said, looking off sadly. 011 scared but confused.
"Papa had found out about us and took her away.. I never saw her again... but I knew.. know that Brenner-Papa killed her..." 011 looked wide eyed as scared but almost felt sorry for him..almost..
Henry was now in front of her. His eyebrows furrowed sadly for a moment. "You look like her.."
...
Brenner sighed. Looking at her but before he could say anything the alarms of the lab started going off and sounds of gun shots echoed through the hallway. Similar to that day those 5 years ago.
Brenner grabbed 011's hand and pointed up to a ladder. "Go up you'll be safe.. it'll help you get free." He instructed.
011 stared at him for a moment before climbing the ladder and opening the door to freedom. She was starting to make a run for it. Until she heard gun shots around her. She paused for a moment realising that they were shooting at her.
She quickly started trying to redirect the bullets while trying to find the source to see a helicopter in the sky with two men. She used her freshly renewed powers to make the helicopter crash into part of the lab. 011 collapsed using energy that she hadn't used since 4th of July at the star court mall. Not knowing that somebody picked her up until she heard gun shots fired that brought her back to see papa fall as she was in his arms. A group of men in a circle surrounding them using more energy 011 surged her power making them fly back hendering them unconscious.
011 went over to papa holding his hand in his final moments.
"I-I am sorry 011.." Brenner said in a shaky voice. Before pulling out a small envelope and handing it to her. "It h-has everything you need to know.."
011 took it. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion before she was brought out of her thoughts hearing a vehicle she turned around ready to face them only to come face to face with her family. She me Will half giving him a big hug and taking Mike's hand and leaving to Hawkins after she had explained almost everything.
"What's that El? In the envelope?" Mike asked, curiosity getting the better of him and Will would be lying if he said he wasn't interested too.
"I-I'm not sure.." 011 replied.
Before slowly opening the envelope to reveal multiple photographs, a note, and her actual birth certificate. Mikes and Will's eyes widened in shock at all of the stuff that was in the small envelope.
Will picked up a photograph that had fallen his eye brows stitching in confusion.
"Who's this? Do you recognise them?" He asked, giving el the picture. 011 took it looking at it in shock it was her parents...
...
"Come on Henry. Let's take a picture!" Y/n said, cheering quietly.
Y/n had found the camera in one of the storage room that was full of film. She moved closer to Henry, while holding the camera out smiling.
Henry looked at her smiling a real smile. Before putting his arm around her and smiling slightly.
...
The old photograph worn now laid in their daughter's hand. 011 turned it over to see writing in the back.
'February. 25, 1970
The day I truly fell for you ~ n/n'
"I-it's... my real parents..." 011 said. Will and Mike looked at her in shock before she handed them photo.
In the pile of photos 011 was going through one particularly caught 011s eye. It's has picture of just her... Y/n.. her mother. Mike and Will sat next to her looking at the photo.
...
"Look what I found." Henry said, pulling out the camera that they had found year prior to this one.
They got caught with the camera and got it taken away as we as punished for having it or having had 'stole' it as one of the guards accused since he was missing a similar one.
"Where did you find it?" Y/n whispered, jumping up her eyes sparkling.
"In the storage closet again." Henry said, y/n reached out for it but he pulled it away. She gave him a confused look.
"Sit." Henry demanded. Her expression widened slightly as she sat down.
"Now look here.." He instructed towards the lens. She laughed slightly a small blush creeping on to her cheeks. She smiled softly as the flash went off.
...
"She looks just like you.. your mom.." Mike says, Will nodded his head in agreement. 011 looked at it noticing some features. Her doe like eyes, her smile, the little furrow in her brow.
It was true.. she looked like her. She kept looking through the photos. 011s mind racing with a question lingering: Did her actual mom put this envelope together or was it just another file papa had kept?
— Time Jump —
"You were different... like me.." 011 said,As she hung from the vines in his layer. Trying to get Henry's attention away from Max but it didn't work once she saw his long claw like hand go over Max's face.
"I know what happened to her!!" 011 yelled. "The lady you told me about... the one you said i looked like.."
Henry froze stopping what he was doing as he slowly retracting his hand but keeping max in place unconscious. As he turned around to fully look at 011.
"After, papa found out about you two... theirs a reason why I look like her.." 011 said, her eyebrows furrowed tears spilling from her eyes at the thought.
Henry looked confused before his eyes widened and his mask slipping in the slightest way as he realised what she was implying. The memories he hadn't thought of in the past 4 years all came back and his heart ached.
"N-not long a-after she had me. She got sick.. really sick.. papa tried to help her.. but i-it wasn't e-enough.." 011 said, tears streaming down her cheeks. Henry's mask quickly came back his face hardening.
"He may have not killed her but he took her and everything from me... including you.." Henry turned back to Max lifting up his hand.
"Would Y/n have wanted this? Would she have wanted you to do any of this?" 011 shouted, in pain and anger. Henry hesitated only slightly before his expression turned more dark.
"She's gone.. and has been for a long time." Henry spoke.
Before, his claw like hand latched onto Max's face and that's when 011 realised you were the only light in his life. Now, no one not even his own daughter could help stop him from his own deranged ways.. even if 011 looked like her..

Maybe unpopular opinion but I DONT want Mike or Will to say they love each other, because every time a romantic couple does that, it's when they're having PROBLEMS.
S2 stancy. They say they love each other after a small argument, then Nancy says "I do!!" After Murry confronts her about not loving him, as a DEFENSE.
S3 Mileven. Mike only says he loves El (while she's not in the room, might I add) after they break up, and everyone has been arguing about Mike not caring about what El actually wants. He says it to DEFEND his actions.
"I love you!"(x7) Mike only says it DAYS AFTER El expresses that's something she wants. He doesn't get to say it via his on volition either. He is pushed by Will and pushed by the fact that El is literally dying. It is to DEFEND El against Vecna and his own actions
"That's why I love him" Even when Johnathan and Nancy say they love each other to their friends in S4, they are growing distant. They only say it to DEFEND their relationship. It is not an actual representation of how they care for one another.
In Stranger Things, actions always speak louder than words.
"Only love makes you that crazy" Johnathan protecting Nancy's reputation and keeping Wills name out of Steve's mouth. Neither of them say the words "I love you" to one another
"Wine makes me crazy" Bob trying to integrate into the Byers family, and help Joyce feel more comfortable by leaving a place with so many bad memories
"Crazy together" Comforting each other through a shared understanding of their individual trauma
And other examples of showing not telling
"Just talk to me. I'm here" Lucas begging Max to lean on him, showing her she doesn't have to go through her pain alone
"I feel like I lost you or something" Mike reconciling with Will, showing he's sorry and explaining why he acted the way he did
"I did lose you" Joyce after traveling and fighting to find Hopper even when there's a chance it's all a lie
Stranger Things does not say "I love you". It will always show it.

Might make some people mad over this…
y’all predicting who survives in Stranger Things five based on blurry ass set pictures is silly. Just because a character isn’t in ONE scene doesn’t mean they’re dead, and half the time they don’t even film stuff in order. So stop being like “El dies i’m so devastated” over ONE PICTURE. JUST WAIT TILL THE SHOW COMES OUT OML.

Sugar Babe
Finally got around to finishing this, first published fic on this account, who cheered?! (pls gimme feedback/requests)
Eddie Munson x Reader
fluff, swearing, allusions to sex, mentions of ADD
WC: 1.3k
*Alternate timeline: a few years after the events of season 4 (spoiler: he lived)*
Inspired by the 1971 song 'Sugar Babe' by Stephen Stills
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were an outlier; you and Eddie both were for an endless number of reasons. One of the most prominent ones to oblivious outsiders looking in was the fact that you were only in your early twenties but you behaved like a couple who’d been married for at least a decade. It grossed the kids out, it warmed older adults’ hearts, and it made your friends of the same age a little envious. Neither of you really saw it as abnormal because it just felt normal; not forced, not overdramatized, not rushed, none of that. It was just natural, good old fashioned love as Wayne liked to describe it.
Now, don’t get anything twisted, the both of you certainly weren’t the perfect couple but you were perfect for one another and that was what mattered. You had plans to get married but not for awhile; 25 at least as you’d said whenever a family member brought it up since you’d been together for a few years already.
There were times, however, when Eddie considered just full sending things because of how overwhelmed with love he felt: pawning a ring from the shop just outside town, taking you out some place nice, and proposing even if it threw you for a loop, even if neither of you had more than a few hundred bucks at a time. But he knew that wasn’t how either of you wanted things to play out so he practiced restraint, even on nights like tonight.
★★★★
“You can do whatever you want to do, you can be who you want to be. Just remember that me and you ain’t all there is to bein’ free.”
Your singing was soft and clearly zoned out while you stood at the stove in Eddie and Wayne’s kitchen, eyes honed in on the pot that crackled and popped with searing oil and slivers of potato. Your boyfriend watched you from the opposing counter where he was supposed to be working on designing a tattoo for someone who’d commissioned one from him; a simple sword with song lyrics wrapped around it that resembled vines. It was good money and something he loved to do, but he loved you more.
“People need love. People need trust. People need one another and that means us. My sugar babe. Believe me, sugar babe.”
You didn’t notice him slip off the countertop nor did you seem to hear him slink towards you. If you did, you made no efforts to turn towards him or to ask what he was up to so he continued onwards, sly as a fox.
“Everyone knows it ain't easy when you get it all together in your heart. It's the easiest thing to do to be pleasin'. Folks ain't made to live apart.”
You smiled and hummed as you felt the familiar embrace of Eddie’s arms wrapping around your midsection, his chin settled on your right shoulder so he could see what you were seeing.
“People need love. People need trust. People need one another and that means us. My sugar babe. Believe me, sugar babe. I'm on your side, sugar babe.”
He husked the words with you like they were a prayer and you gushed as you kept an eye on the fries. This was your song, at least one of them, and he called you Sugar Babe as often as he could because it got the biggest smile on your face; prettier than the stars.
“Let yourself be open, honey, learn to bend. Remember, everyone gets scared, but I'm still your best friend…”
He stole a kiss to the side of your head right above the temple and you turned this time, giving him the invitation to grab your hips with a little jig in his stride.
“When you forget about yourself and think of things to do to make me happy, then you love me girl, like I love you, oh-oh-oh…”
He turned the charm up to 100 by tucking a lock of hair behind your ear, keeping his warm hand there since it always made you soften. You gave him that sarcastic smirk he loved and he began to lean in, going for the kill. Your eyes fluttered shut when he got close enough for your noses to bump but then a sharp gasp left you as the pot began to sputter a little louder.
“Oh, shit! Gotta turn ‘em.”
You spun around like a top to do as you said, the edge of your elbow brushing across Eddie’s chest; a punch to the heart. You were lucky you were cute. An audible noise that sounded like a mix of irritation and adoration left Eddie so you furrowed your brows while you watched the golden fries bubbling inside the amber colored oil.
“What?” You asked in question, side eyeing him. He snorted and waited until you’d turned all of the fries over; having set the big spoon you were using back down. The moment it clattered against the spoon rest, he let out a long chuckle and grabbed at your waist once more.
“Nothing, ‘s nothing, Y/N.” He paused and met your eye as you cocked your head towards him; there’s those pretty blues. “Your ADD is just going ham right now.”
You frowned and geared up to give him a sassy defense but he finally gave into his temptation (one of them, at least) and chased your lips with his own; shutting you up mid–sentence with a hungry hold. You gasped into the kiss but melted all the same, similar to putty in his hands and in turn, you held his face with gentle palms that he swore could heal. Your lips finally parted for the sake of air and you clicked your tongue at him once you caught your own breath.
“You interrupted me.” You said with an accusatory tone, unable to help the giggle that fell through when he started tickling at your ribs. Asshat.
“That I did, Sugar Babe.
“Ass.” He rolled his eyes at you like a diva. He even did the hair flip for fuck’s sake. Drama queen.
“Oh, whatever. You liked that.”
“Says who?” You challenged it though it was true; this was part of your dynamic with Eddie, after all.
“Says the pink in your cheeks, Sugar Babe.”
You fumed at that and he snickered since you turned an even deeper shade of pink, causing you to grimace at him with a saucy wiggle back towards the pot. Another eye roll came from him even though he knew you couldn’t see him and he sighed with a nonchalant lean forwards, grabbing you and hoisting you up as if you weighed nothing.
“Eds.” You groaned out of irritation though you made no efforts to stop him; not even any squirming when he had you comfortably settled over his shoulder.
“What?” He whined back in mockery of you, earning a light slap to the middle of his back.
“Put me down. It’s not good for your back, ya know.”
He disregarded your words with a grunt that may as well have said ‘oh, as if’ and he kicked the door to his room open before gently flopping you down onto the center of his bed.
“Good one, babe. You should try standup.”
He toed back to shut the door with his butt and he pulled his shirt off of himself, finding you with a confused gaze that amused him in some odd way. He tilted his head at you inquisitively and climbed on the bed, reaching for you with protective arms.
“What about the fries?” You asked him shyly.
Even after all these years, you still got a little meek during these moments of intensity where all of his attention was on you and you only. He grinned with a shaking head and held your face, squishing at your cheeks just lightly enough to get a low noise of annoyance out of your mouth. God, he loved annoying you.
“Honestly, sweetheart?”
He paused for a moment to kiss you; a long and hungry embrace of battling tongues, clashing teeth, and racing hearts. Butterflies filled both of your stomachs and this time it was his cheeks that turned a deep shade of fuchsia.
“Fuck the fries.”

pairing: steve harrington x f! reader
a/n: I LOVE STEVE!! this was rlly fun to write :33 this request is so cute i love him eek!! also this is kind of inspired by the song ‘only you’ by yazoo bc i love that song heheh
Tumblr media
it had been a rough few days. the kind of rough that made steve wish he could crawl under his bedcovers and stay there until the world decided to stop falling apart. but hiding wasn't an option when the upside down was causing havoc in hawkins again, and certainly not when nancy was back in his life, running headfirst into danger just like old times.
you had been a solid presence throughout the ordeal, offering reason when everyone else seemed ready to unravel. steve always appreciated you more than he could ever put into words. you were his rock, his anchor in the storm, and he knew he was the luckiest guy in the world to have you by his side.
tonight, the group had gathered in the wheeler basement, trying to piece together the story of the latest victim that vecna had left for them. nancy was flipping through her notebook, scribbling notes furiously, while steve tried to keep up with the conversation. he glanced over at her a few times, mostly out of habit. they had been through so much together that it was hard not to look back on those memories with a tinge of nostalgia.
but he didn’t realize how it must have looked to you.
you were sitting on the other side of the room, comforting el, whilst trying to focus on max’s recount of her latest vision, but your eyes kept drifting to steve and nancy. every stolen glance, every shared look between them, sent a pang of insecurity through your heart. you knew they had history - everyone did. but seeing them together again, working so closely, it made you wonder if maybe that history wasn't as buried as you hoped.
later, after the meeting had dispersed and everyone was heading home, you and steve walked to his car in silence. the quiet stretched uncomfortably between you, filled with words unsaid.
"hey," steve finally broke the silence as he unlocked the car. "y’okay?"
you nodded, but your expression betrayed you. steve could see the worry etched across your face. he gently touched your arm, stopping you before you could climb into the passenger seat.
"what's wrong?" he asked, his voice soft and full of concern.
you took a deep breath, looking up at him with eyes that threatened to spill over with tears. "i saw the way you were looking at nancy tonight," you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. "and... and the way she was looking at you."
steve's eyes widened in surprise, and then softened with understanding. he stepped closer, cupping your face in his hands. "hey, no," he said gently. "there’s nothing going on between me and nancy. we’re just trying to figure all this out, just like everyone else."
"but you have a history with her," you whispered, looking away. "and i can't help but feel like, like maybe you still have feelings for her."
steve's heart ached at the sight of your distress. he tilted your chin up so you would look at him, his gaze steady and sincere. "listen to me," he said firmly. "nancy and i... we had our time, but it’s over. i care about her as a friend, and that's it. you’re the one i’m with now. you’re the one i want to be with."
he pressed his forehead against yours, closing his eyes. "you’re my present and my future," he whispered. "i love you. only you."
you closed your eyes too, feeling the warmth of his words seep into your heart. "promise?" you asked, your voice small and vulnerable.
steve pulled back just enough to look into your eyes, his expression full of love and determination. "i promise," he said. "i’m all in, with you. and I’m not going anywhere."
you let out a shaky breath, a smile breaking through the lingering doubt. "okay," you whispered.
steve leaned in and kissed you, slow and sweet, pouring all his reassurance and love into that kiss. when he pulled back, he rested his forehead against yours again, a small smile playing on his lips. "no more doubts, okay?"
you nodded, feeling the weight of your worries lift. "okay."
with a final kiss on your forehead, steve opened the car door for you. as you both settled into your seats and drove away, the tension from earlier dissolved, replaced by a comforting sense of certainty. no matter what anything or anyone threw at you, you knew you had steve by your side. and that was enough.

California Dreaming
Tumblr media
Another Billy Hargrove fanfic... yes I know what a surprise...
Billy Hargrove x reader
Summary: Max and Billy could only agree on one thing in common.... and that was you. You were their neighbor when the lived in California and Billy had the biggest crush on you. Plus it helped that you babysat, more like hangout with, Max. You were his California dream.
Part 2 is out! Go to my page pls
.......................................................................................................................
When Max and Billy were moved to Hawkins Indiana they knew they were loosing one of the few best things they ever had. You. Ever since Max moved into Billy's home in California, she had the pleasure of having you as her neighbor. From what started as a babysitting gig turned into a friendship.
Billy on the other hand. Having lived next to you for a majority of his life was absolutely in love. He'll admit love is a strong word but you were just breathtaking to him. When his mom was still around she always tried to get him to talk to you. Finding it absolutely adorable watching him try to talk to you at the nervous age of eleven. As he grew up, and more handsome, he found it much easier to talk to you. Still fumbling here and there though. Now in Indiana all Billy could think about was you.
"So you guys are really moving." You said. You and Billy were currently sitting on your front porch over looking the street.
"Yeah... to some shit hole in Indiana." Billy spit out.
"Hey it won't be that bad." You comforted. "Once you graduate you can come here with me." Hearing you say those words made Billy's heart leap. You've done so much for him.
"You mean that." He smiled.
"Definitely." You replied. Having grown up with Billy you have seen many fazes of his life. You remember how sweet he was, well he's still sweet but only to you, and how he got flustered over small things sometimes. You saw the destruction that his dad had caused upon not only him but also his sister. There is so much you wish you could do. Now Billy and Max is being taken away from you.
"What am I going to do with out you?" Billy questioned. "I don't like anyone else as much as I like you."
"You'll make new friends B." You laughed. Billy just rolled his eyes at you.
"With who cows? Rednecks?" Billy stated. "I wanna stay here so bad."
"I know you do Billy but things happen." You rubbed his arm.
"Well it feels like shitty things only happen to me." He retorted. You knew Billy had a short fuse. It came with his vulnerability and constant state of survival.
"Shitty things don't happen to you." You reassured. "Plus does that make me being one of the shitty things in your life." You tried to joke with him. He chuckled lightly at the attempt.
"No you're not. You are the greatest thing to ever happen to me."
"Well don't give me to big of a head Hargrove." You giggled. "Enjoy what you got right now Billy, you leave in a week. And I don't know when I'll see you next after you move." You scoot closer to Billy. Looking out at the pink and orange sky as the sun set. It was like a dream.
Your words had stuck with Billy. After next week he will never see you again. He'll be on the other side of the country, you'll be gone. Your smile will be gone, your laugh, the conversations, coming over to "watch Max", movie nights, all of it. He can't just leave you. He has to tell you how much he cares about you. At least take you on a date. You've seen him with multiple girl as he's you with guys. Which he hated. If being your boyfriend will only last for one week he will grab that opportunity by the balls.
Billy stood up abruptly to face you, you look to hime with confusion and shock. He took a deep breath in and "Y/N. I have known you my entire life, and you are by far the most beautiful person I know. I have been to chicken shit to tell you but I like you. Damn... maybe even love you. But even if it only for a week I would love to take you out on a date and be your boyfriend." It was done. He said it. Billy Hargrove finally confessed his feelings to you. You sat still for a minute then... you laughed? Oh no, you think he's a joke now don't you. 'Good job pussy, now she thinks you're an idiot' Billy thought embarrassingly.
"I would love to Billy." You said.
"What?" Billy snapped his head to you.
"I said yes." You said once more." Jeez, I thought you were proposing for a moment."
"Oh, well it might have been much." Billy felt the heat on his cheeks rise. Just then you stood and walked over to Billy. Placing your hand on his shoulder; leaning up to place a kiss on his cheek.
"How about tomorrow at seven." You said.
"I would love that, we can get dinner then go to a drive in if you want." Billy suggested.
"I would love that. Don't be late." You said as you walked up and into your house. Billy has never been more happy. He probably would have skipped home from excitement. When he entered his house Max saw the smile on his face. Well everyone in the house could, it was not like it was going away anytime soon.
"Did you do it?" Max asked.
"What?"
"Did you ask Y/n out or not?" Max said, elaborating.
"Shut up Max." Billy said before going off to his box filled bedroom.
"I am taking that as a yes." Max concluded. She was happy for him, but sad at the same time. He just told his crush his feelings then has to leave them. She is going to miss watching Billy fumble in front of you at times. At least he'll be a bit nicer to her in the next week. 'I'm gonna miss Y/N...' Max thought sadly.
Now being in Indiana, Billy was right it is a shit hole. His dad has been more on his case about watching Max and everything else in his life. The kids at school already cling to him; from being both new and from California. As Billy pulled into the high school parking lot for him and Max to get out at, he looked to Max.
"Alright shit-bird. Be out buy 3:45 or you're on your own." Billy pointed to her. She rolled her eyes to him.
"Fine." Max sassed to him as she got out of the car and slammed the door shut. Billy looked to his watch and saw he had a few minutes before he had to go in. He pulled his cigarettes out to take a quick drag. With said cigarette hanging from his lips Billy hastily looked for a lighter. Looking everywhere, then grabbing his sun visor in hopes he stashed it up there. Once the visor was flipped down and out something hell out of it. A polaroid. Not just any but the Polaroid you took on your first date with Billy. You took as many as you could in the week you and him had together. This polaroid being the only one he took with him when he moved. It was a picture of you and him in a booth at the restaurant he took you too with you giving him a kiss on the cheek. He remembers it like it was yesterday. You asked your waitress to take the photo for you; as Billy stood for the photo you grabbed his collar and placed the kiss on his cheek. The act causing both of you to bust in a fit of laughter right after. Billy wonders what you're doing right now. He wishes he was with you. Billy didn't realize that he was staring at the photo for to long till the first bell rang for school. Billy huffed carefully put the picture back into place, put his cigarette away got out of his car to make his way to school.
You'll always be his California dream.
