Stop acting like Talia hates Ra’s or that Ra’s doesn’t care about Talia. Their relationship is EXTREMELY complex and they both love each other.

Ra’s is the definition of a loving but cold father because he thinks it’s what benefits his child. He’s equivalent to the parent who throws their child into too many extra curricular activities and pushes them for good grades and perfection because he wants them to have a good future. It’s not right, yes, but it’s human. It’s just exaggerated because of the nature of comics.

Talia has worked against her father multiple times, and ideally would stay doing so, but she still understands her father’s perspective and why he does what he does. She agrees with his cause, she doesn’t agree with his methods. And despite that, she still comes back when he’s in danger because she loves him. Talia was able to resist her sister’s brainwashing when she was ordered to kill him because of her love and loyalty to him.

Talia knows her father’s not a good man, but she can’t help but love him because it really wasn’t all bad (early Ra’s was very much a single girl dad trying to make his princess happy by setting up dates with the weird bat freak she’s into) and she understands why he is how he is and she knows he loves her. Their relationship isn’t healthy, but it is loving and that’s an extremely important aspect, because without that love, Talia would be a completely different person and Ra’s would have little interest in Bruce in the first place.

having some thoughts inspired by @morganbritton132 posts where mrs. hagan considers steve her kid, and tommy is very much in love with steve (this is still steddie tho)

like thinking about tommy home from college for summer break, following a groundbreaking revelation about his sexuality. maybe he hooked up with a guy or two during his freshman year of college, but thats not the point. the revelation was that he was very much in love with his ex-best friend.

maybe on the drive home he starts thinking about patching things up with steve, and if that rekindles some feelings and a chance at something more...tommy gets a little hopeful as he approaches hawkins

he doesn't even really know if steve's still in town but he finds out as soon as he opens his front door to find the guy sitting in his living room.

steve is in his house...and flirting with his mom?

tommy steps further inside, setting down his bags, which neither steve or his mom react to. he watches steve flash his mom that stupid patented charm, and tommy feels his stomach swoon at the grin then very quickly begins to burn with jealousy because it's not aimed at him.

worse even, is the way his mom leans into his jokes and touches steve's arms, which tommy ogles the muscle as his arm is stretched across the back of the couch.

tommy doesnt know what to make of the scene in front of him, but he decides what ever it is needs to stop when his mom giggles, in a way that he's only ever heard to be caused by his dad.

when tommy clears his throat, they don't even have to audacity to look caught out. just a light flush on steve's cheeks.

steve leaves pretty soon after tommy interrupted whatever strangeness that was, but tommy keeps seeing him around even if its not in his house. and every time, he's chatting up tommy's mom.

he hears that steve's been working at the family video, and finally figures he wants to seek him out to talk. about what? tommy's not sure. a warning to quit flirting with his mom? a branch to be his friend again? a confession?

but it all goes to shit, when he walks in and finds his mother perched at the counter talking to steve. and he's got his head tucked to the side looking bashful and gorgeous. he's close enough that he could probably hear what theyre saying as they're not even whispering, but tommy can't really hear anything over his blood rushing to his head.

tommy briefly registers that steve looks up in his direction, a shy smile tugging at his lips. but tommy's too frustrated to pay him any mind, so he just tucks his tail between his legs and runs out the door bumping into the freak munson on his way out. he'll come up with another plan for next time.

tldr: tommy thinks steve is trying to date his mom, but actually tommy's mom is teasing steve about eddie and trying to get them together.

I'm kind-of genuinely devastated that they decided to cut out the reveal of Perrin having known all along about Mon Mothma's rebel activities and was getting interrogated WEEKLY by the Empire and never cracked even once.

This would've helped answer SO MANY QUESTIONS about Mon and Perrin, and it could've easily helped answer the question of why Mon felt like she could just walk away from her family after making herself public enemy number one.

She goes to finally explain it all to Perrin right before she makes the speech because dammit she might not have trust him or even like him all that much but she doesn't want him DEAD and he deserves the chance to find this out from her and get himself to safety before she turns his life upside down, and he tells her he's known all along and covered for her this whole time and never once cracked or been discovered, even when she framed him for gambling and sold off their daughter to a gangster's son. He lets her know that he doesn't need to go to safety, he's not just going to run now because that'll just make him look like he was involved in it. He can continue to cover for himself when the Empire comes to interrogate him again, and he can do it well enough to ensure Leida doesn't get implicated, either. Mon's priority is the rebellion, her priority is her work and it always has been, even to the detriment of her relationship with her family, and Perrin understood that but it meant that HIS priority had to be protecting and taking care of Leida in the absence of her mother. So Mon has to go, but Perrin has to stay because their daughter needs him now more than ever.

And it just makes the choice that Mon has made so clear, the sacrifice she chose to make for the sake of the rebellion, and she can't back out now, she can't make a different choice because she tells herself she's doing this FOR Leida, to try to make a better world for her daughter to live in, but in order to give Leida that world, she has to leave Leida behind.

But she realizes now that she CAN trust Perrin, she could've trusted him all along, so she chooses to trust him now. She trusts him with their daughter, she trusts that he can take care of himself and Leida in her absence once more.

This helps Mon's arc SO MUCH, and I honestly love it, and as Bissell says it's technically a non-canon thing now because it clearly never even made it into the script really let alone got filmed, but it's pretty easy to slot it into what we DID get to see, so as far as I'm concerned, this is my canon. This fixes so many of the problems I had with the end of this arc for Mon and makes it so much more emotional and almost tragic. Mon made her choices and you can argue that some of them were mistakes if you want, you can argue that it made her a bad mother if you wanted to, but it's so much more complicated and nuanced than that, and I love that this finally makes that so clear. Mon made her choice and her family paid the price a long time ago, long before Mon was willing to acknowledge that she'd made that choice.

Getting stuck into the intricacies of Edwin’s gender by designing some drag looks for him, obvi inspired by the magnificent Barbara Lasagna. (40s and 20s dress respectively!) I imagine that the two names would be Edwin’s idea and Charles’ more goofy suggestion; a play on the Paine/Payne homophone and, well. A 16 year olds sense of humour in the midst of having a crisis. I think Edith would perform with an instrument like the violin or piano!

Taking the current topic as an excuse to ask you to tell me all the reasons you love Rarijack. Your art for the ship is so sweet and intimate I'd love to hear any in depth thoughts you have.

I think what makes their dynamic really strong is that they have opposing personalities but aligned values. It's deeper than just "opposites attract." Rarity's fancy, prissy, and femme while Applejack's modest, rough, and "masculine." But both value hard work (to the point of being workaholics), their families (both have guardianship over their little sisters), running successful businesses, and eventually each other. Their relationship can be boiled down to, "Despite our differences/disagreements, I still like you because we value the same things."

We see their relationship develop so much. In the first season, they can't stop bickering about surface-level differences. By season four, they still bicker, but will mend their relationship because they can't help but do nice things for each other. In Trade Ya, they start off arguing over personality differences (Applejack likes old junk and Rarity likes useless crap). Then they pivot and start arguing that they value their relationship more than the other. In the end, they mend things by sacrificing their needs and buying each other a gift. Even if they don't understand it, they know it'd make the other happy. And that's all that really matters. It's a genuinely sweet moment that shows how arguing can be healthy and necessary for relationships to strengthen.

We even see them dropping their hang-ups about each others' personalities. In Made in Manehattan, when Rarity runs off in dramatics about someone's fashion, AJ doesn't roll her eyes or scoff, she smiles. Oftentimes, their conflicts are very common domestic conflicts romantic couples face. Applejack's Day Off is about a woman's inability to balance work and life and find time to properly spend with her partner, causing her partner to feel neglected.

By season seven, they're actively participating in each others' interests. Any problems or conflicts that arise are dealt with, and they come out the other end stronger and closer. In Honest Apple, AJ pretty much spells out why their relationship works so well: even though she doesn't understand fashion, she can recognize and appreciate how much work it takes and wants to respect that. When she realizes her mistake in the episode, AJ goes above and beyond to fix things and apologize to Rarity. They care about each other so much.

The two go out of their way, sacrificing their personal desires and beliefs and doing things they normally wouldn't, to make the other happy. That's just love.

There's Simple Ways, where AJ gets stuck in an unwanted love triangle between Rarity and her hipster crush. And her frustration and anger can be so easily interpreted as AJ finding herself in a terrible position; the girl she loves wants another man, and that man wants her.

I dunno. I've always had a preference for opposites attract ships, but Rarijack's stuck with me like a brain worm because they have the perfect chemistry. The way they show they care, or do things for each other, I've always read it as the truest representation of romance in the show.

I can't remember if it was said anywhere but are we ever gonna get the exact reason why Bess isn't willing to join Cedar in the clan (if there's more to it than what she said when they first met about oakclan)? Or if it's not a spoiler territory, what is the reason? 👀

It's mostly just what happened with Oakclan + the fact that she's lived on her own for long enough that she's been able to completely demonize the clans in her own mind. She imagines joining the clan would immediately mean being judged for everything she does, being told what to do at every moment, and losing everything she enjoys about her life.

She hasn't even tried to imagine a scenario where living with them would be good, because she just doesn't want to do it
