Joe Henderson – Power to the People

Power to the People is an album by jazz saxophonist Joe Henderson, released on Milestone in 1969. Featuring Henderson with trumpeter Mike Lawrence (on two tracks), pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Hancock’s electric piano and Carter’s bass guitar are the first electric instruments to appear on a Henderson album.

#OnThisDate & #WaybackWednesday: Last Year (8/3/2021), I watched the Matt Mirabile Band Ft. Alison Jacobs, at the Brunswick Community Center in Troy,NY. This was the first time the band made their stage debut at my hometown summer concert series and from what I can remember of it, it was great. Today (8/3/2022), I completed errands, took part in a Zoom piano lesson, and have been keeping busy transcribing an interview I conducted a while back for work that I have put behind and need to work on it and other projects for clients. The book is about Star Scouts and how they need to learn to integrate.  They were segregated because they breathe different air.  The different Star Scouts need to learn to be friends since they will be in the same troop.  The main character has a friend that breathes different air and her other friends don’t like her new friend.  There are also robots and one of the scouts accidentally sends them to invade earth because she is mad.

I liked the book because it has very good pictures and a good story line.  Also, the author is really good, and I’m a boy scout so I can relate.

#TBT: Sunday, March 19, a moving funeral service was held for my friend and Albany blues musician, Charlie Smith. Smith died March 8 from complications of diabetes. He was super talented on the guitar and always had a lot of feel & emotion into what he performed on stage. I got to know Charlie on and off through my early adulthood & he was always kind to me in the scene. I’m thankful to have heard Charlie play the blues in the Capital Region & Bennington, V.T. and call him a friend. He impacted many musicians’ lives & is missed. I had a nice time photo shooting “The Mother Goose Jazz Band” as they were the final band to close out the Town of Brunswick, NY Family Community Center concert series held at The Town of Brunswick Family Community Center in Troy, NY, Tuesday, August 29, 2017. This was my third ever assignment that I had ever covered for “The Eastwick Press” (and my second assignment to cover that afternoon)!!!
