i find it so funny yet so fascinating that mikey way has the most virgin ass music taste (the smiths, radiohead, etc.) yet somehow has the legacy of having allegedly fucked the entirety of warped tour and half of the state of new jersey.

mcr fans talking about their favorite member can be so predictable but i've found that,

mikey fans say shit like "i want to put this guy under a microscope and study him",

ray fans think he's underrated (HE IS SO UNDERRATED) "everyone overlooks that insane fucking guitar riff in this song. you guys don't appreciate ray enough LOOK AT HIM",

gerard fans will refer to gerard as "wife" and "girlfriend" and then Compare him to a picture of a bird,

and then we have frank's fans who just want to Kill the poor guy.

as a former “traumatized-to-the-point-of-growing-up-way-too-fast-and-having-maturity-that-surpassed-the-adults-around-me” teenager, i thoroughly appreciate seeing these 16-17 year old teenagers show these signs of, well, trauma

i can speak the best on inej and wylan— as my own personal trauma is most similar to theirs— and say that having them both be so emotionally mature for their ages is important in their portrayal of trauma. most people focus on kaz when discussing how trauma is shown in six of crows (which is great! he is awesome representation) but i’ve always felt myself more drawn to those who have themes of growing up too fast.

(spoiler warning for six of crows if you haven’t read it already which, btw, you should. leigh bardugo i love you)

inej was taken from her family when she was very young and forced into sex and human trafficking. she had no choice but to harden and grow up to be able to survive the horrific abuse she suffered at the hands of men and women who objectified as a sex object; an animal. she could not have come out the other side of trafficking at 16 if she did not become more mature more quickly— i know this from experience. she took care of and protected the other girls from as young as 9, of course she is now able to hold her own and be independent at only 16. of course, in the real world, the ability to set those firm boundaries with kaz would’ve been much easier if inej had access to therapy, but suspension of disbelief and all. her abuse gave her a life’s purpose that she is dedicated to and she won’t let anyone take that away from her again. after being used for her body and abilities, of course she now craves something more intimate; something emotional (and, again, in the real world you would need lots of therapy to get to this point but here inej relies on teachings from her parents and pure self-reliance). she won’t let herself be used again and put into a situation where she is not on equal standing with her partner and i think that’s beautiful

i believe i’ve written other posts about wylan specifically and his trauma, i won’t link them because im lazy and about to pass out, but if you want to find them please go ahead. tl;dr for wylan: he was emotionally neglected and had to learn to rely on himself for emotional support + being conditioned to be the heir to the merchant’s council, of course he’s way more emotionally mature than, say, jesper

basically yes we should acknowledge that soc characters are sooo crazy mature for their ages and it’s because they all have crazy trauma and had to rely on themselves in some way shape or form in their lives
