I’ve beaten generations mania and forces btw (this is part of my “brother having me play every Wii/switch mainline sonic game (plus black knight) in order since unleashed” arc)

Generations was pretty fire, very fun and I liked how it’s like a love letter to the series! A bit cheesy with it yes but it was also very cute

Mania was rather fun, kinda hard, my brother was actually able to play with me, the level design was super cool, it wasn’t as memorable or fun for me as unleashed or generations but still great!

Forces was bad. The internet was not exaggerating. The plot was all over the place and made no sense. It was so tonally inconsistent and did not commit to/deliver on its premise at all. It was not fun. The controls were clunky to the point it felt like my guys weren’t following my inputs. My brother once looked over mid-level and said my face had zero emotion whatsoever. Infinites theme played for maybe a minute in the background of a cutscene full of dialogue, it wasn’t even a boss theme. Can’t explain how disappointing not hearing more of that absolute fire song was. Infinite himself was fantastic tho, I love overly edgy and *emotionally scars you for fun* villains and Liam O’Brien go brr

I’m now onto frontiers. Only an hour in and I love it (even though it took me like five tries to beat asura). If I remember to I will review that one when I beat it

Something something Jason feeling like he doesn't quite fit as "Greek" or "Roman" as a metaphor for bisexuality, particularly the semi-canonical bi-coding in his half of experiences during the Cupid scene and how Favonius and Cupid speak to him in parallel to the scenes confirming Nico is gay.

I've procrastinated on this for many reasons! The script was worked out live in the subtitles, making it...kinda hard to translate back into a normal format. Thanks Notepad++ as always for that one. Specifically about the racefakery:

I'm primarily seeing the conversation around All This focus on plagiarism (which makes sense) but I wanted to say some things as one of the handful of Black people I'm aware of that hang out around here:

1. Discord makes my brain itch and I've been afraid to go to OFMD bluesky after how bad OFMD twitter was, so I'm often one of so few Black people on here that you can count us one hand. I wasn't especially close with Atticus but I did like knowing that someone else was gonna be loud about racist Ed takes from a "position of authority" as it were. That knowledge made shit feel a lot less lonely over here and this motherfucker took that from me. That's what I feel betrayed about. That's what pisses me off about the racefaking in particular. Things are now unequivocally going to be harder for me around here than they were before and I hate that he was able to put me in this position.

2. I'm not aware of if he plagiarized any of my fics because they're mostly 100% canon compliant or in one case, too weird to effectively copy, but I'll never know because 100+ middling fics is too many to check through. I'm okay not knowing because the stilted way he wrote about Ed's hair and Ed's race are not things I wish to subject myself to anymore. But for the record, his fics are one of the places where the racefakery shows the most imo because writing makes you tell on yourself in unanticipated ways.

3. Maybe this next point will get me blocked by even more white people in this fandom but here we go anyway. I've struggled to come up with a more diplomatic way of saying "white people are too polite/conflict averse" but like, white people are too polite/conflict averse. This has literally come up in this exact fandom before, around a less fraught issue but still. It had ugly fallout then and it's had ugly fallout now, and while I understand not wanting to come at somebody you perceive as a person of color where everyone could see it, I do wish we had an environment where people who did have suspicions about him could have come forward. The amount of harm he was able to do is directly proportional to the amount of time and space he had to do it, and even before you start talking about the racefaking he was up to shady shit that I certainly had no idea was going on. Which leads to my next point.

4. I can recall a couple times where my race-related spidey senses tingled, but any unease I had was easily lost in the constant din of race-related shit that comes with my existence both in and out of fan spaces. To borrow from scarrletmoon (I miss having you here!) it's like background radiation. Also, there was always the "maybe it's just bad writing" excuse, or the "it's not my place to say but the way he writes about Judaism isn't quite like the way Jews I know talk about it" excuse. There was my (continued) inability to imagine why some white person would bother, because no amount of clout is worth what it's like to be Black on the internet. There was also probably some kind of aversion I had to the idea of losing "one of us" on here, which honestly might be something he was preying on but it's not productive for me to try to get inside the mind of someone who would do what he's done.

And if I was falling into those particular traps (around the racefaking in particular) myself, there's no way the rest of y'all could have known anything was up. Certainly not in isolation. Now I can't help but wonder if being seen interacting with me gave him some kind of legitimacy in any of your eyes, which is lowkey horrifying if true.

Anyway, those are the things I have to say now, after processing for a bit. It's still not worth my sanity to spend more than 30 seconds at a time looking at Discord, where I know a lot of this sort of thing gets discussed, but I can't help but wish I'd known about this sooner.

I know, I don't post this kind of stuff on my account usually, but I wanted to talk about my thoughts on the new update for Welcome Home so far, before someone else brings this up themselves. I would like to mention that most of this is just me copy-and-pasting things from Discord to here, I took about a hour typing all this. So, I don't want to do it all again. Spoilers ahead, by the way!

It's funny how this update involves with Julie and Frank's relationship mostly. Kind of mind blogging when I think about it. Is it just me or does it seem like Play Fellow is trying to shoe horn the fact that they're a "thing" in this new one? Probably me overreacting, but I mean... Think about it. Sally puts Julie and Frank into the "romance" type of roles in her plays, so far only two. I know that it's just a play with roles in them, but ain't no way that can happen twice. That's a bit sus if you ask me, I guess they make a great duo. Another thing, they illustrated them like this:

I can't help but think what this image is trying to convey... It can be looked as them just being the buddy's they usually are. Though, by other people's standpoints, it can also be looked upon them being in a relationship. Since they are opposite genders, people can get confused by that fact.

I Also thought I was going bonkers until someone also mentioned this on a Tumbler post: 

Isn't strange how the book didn't say "kiss" when Frank leaned in close towards her? The book kept using the word "kiss" multiple times, so it's a bit strange how they didn't in this one particular dialogue when it was the most important scene of all. It could just be me once again... However, if you're a script writer and read plenty of books like me. You'll find mixed results on that the person is trying to state in dialogue:

I know Eddie was talking about flowers, and of course, it can be seen as metaphorically speaking in some ways or another.

This can be viewed as, "make yourself open to the world around you to show that you're your own person" or, "You're very unique in every way possible, and that there's a special place for you out there". That's the thing, when Eddie was saying it himself, the words I highlighted are a part that is the most interesting, to say the least. When he was saying it, that's when I noticed that his voice became hushed, It can be translated to him talking about a "special someone" in a way. In any type of media with people who haves a love interest say something along those lines like that. Or with people who wants to find love, they always quote lines like this, you have to "put yourself out there" for your "right flower" to find you. He also addresses insecurities about one's self, and that you have to look pass it either way, even when you're not so confident. That sounds like someone having a crush on another to me, or that they're interest in love as a topic. It's pretty funny that Frank was quiet during that whole segment.

One other key factor about the books is that when Julie introduces her siblings to Frank, Jonesy said he should wear the color "purple":

this is an ijiraq reskin!!!! or well. they were supposed to be one. their out-of-battle behaviors are pretty different but they work mostly the same in battles

the repulsive sigil is there because the ijiraq has it! but it also counts towards loop’s. general attitude towards themself i think. at least they can’t get attacked (if they don’t attack something with sharp quills that is). in kaycee’s mod, this sigil only appears on the ijiraq and starvation (which can only be played by leshy). probably for the best!

i added bifurcated strike both to set them apart from the ijiraq and because scissors craft! stats and sigils wise, they’re a sidegrade to the ijiraq. the fun stuff comes with their hidden trait!

so! shapeshifter!! originally just called. ijiraq. but it works a little different so it gets a different name shshhh. but i’ll just explain how the regular ijiraq works since it’s a kaycee’s mod card and kinda obscure. basically, it diguises itself as other cards in your deck! while on the map, it’ll show the card’s alt version with a red glow, but in battle, it’ll look and behave exactly like the card it’s mimicking. it only reveals itself once placed on the field! so it’s always a surprise! loop works similarly, but they only mimic sif’s card. because twohats :3

like the ijiraq, loop will swap themself with sif for most card events! though there’s a good few that they’ll just refuse to do. too much to talk about there, maybe i’ll post the talking card dialogue for them at some point? idk

oh, speaking of which!! like sif, loop is a talking card! they’ll still talk, even while disguised, but they’d have slightly different lines and portraits methinks. which does make it a little easier to figure out who’s who but that’s a sacrifice (heh) i’m willing to make. plus it’s just fun.

vulpecula is the name of a fox constellation! for fun parallels with siffrin! the constellation itself doesn’t have any mythology behind it though. just a fox. the reason loop’s holding a goose in their mouth(…?) is because the constellation is sometimes depicted with one! please look at the goose i’m really proud of that goose.

this was. probably the hardest card to draw Period. my usual way of drawing loops spiky face would’ve felt out of place with the inscryption style so i had to improvise! and BOY it was a struggle!! especially since i didn’t have a sketch prepared like i did with the others. i think this turned out pretty nice though!

NO PATCH!!!! REJOICE!!! loop can’t be selected for sigil transfers (because ijiraq) so they don’t have any!!!! i mean, i could’ve hypothetically given a patch to the sif disguise but no. i don’t want to even try to recolor the patch. that would be a nightmare. maybe if i ever find a blank png version of the patch.

if i were to give them a patch sigil tho, i think i’d give them hoarder? which lets you draw any card from your deck after placing loop on the field. as like, a nod to how much QoL they add in isat.

also as a little aside, you can attempt to fuse them and the wanderer at the mycologists. they won’t let you but you can try. similarly, they’ll be counted as kin in the trial of kin! because again. twohats

My process lately has been pretty straight forward as I’ve been mostly sketching with minimal cleanup and digital painting. Most of the effort is the years of practice with form, anatomy, and studying other artists of all sorts. My main influences lately have been SDKay, Hamletmachine, Milt Kahl, and Mike Mignola. But I will say that all things (media entertainment and life experiences) influence the art we create in my opinion. All that helps me along with decision making while I actively draw. It’s a lot of thinking and mentally pulling from my Rolodex of art lessons from the last oh let’s say 20 years of drawing.

I start with an idea (with or without reference, here a fun idea was floated around in a discord):

Start fleshing out details and I tend to work destructively (I erase into the sketch as I clean it up I only work on one layer for the most part — the only exception is Harry’s glasses are always on their own layer BECAUSE I ALWAYS MESS ‘EM UP)

I'm one of the people who subscribed to Dracula Daily in May 2022, and immediately thought, "Hey, I can do this too but with XYZ!" - XYZ being The Lord of the Rings. Because the events of LOTR also have specific dates ascribed to them, we're gonna be reading LOTR as it happened.

When does it take place?

Because of the way the beginning of LOTR is structured (read: because I don't want to leave six-month-long breaks between the first entries), we're gonna start on September 15th - a week before September 22nd, when the main events start to take place. It's also the publishing date of the Silmarillion, but that's just a fun fact for my own enjoyment.

From September 15th to September 19th, we'll read the prologue, and the fragments preceding Frodo's departure from the Shire. From September 20th, we'll be reading according to the dates in the book until April 8th. Then we'll be reading last parts of the book - which are stretched over a long time - once a week, to once again avoid lengthy breaks in delivery.

The Newsletter will last from September 15th to May 26th.

We discuss current (and not only current) entries in the #lotr newsletter tag, and we have a Discord server set by the amazing @k-she-rambles! (I really hope this time I managed to generate a link that never expires...)

How do I subscribe?

Since the original platform I was using (TinyLetter) was shut down halfway through the second year of the newsletter, I had to figure out an alternative way to execute this project.

For the lovely people who joined the last edition of the newsletter, just a short announcement - I weighed all the pros and cons and decided to continue carrying out the newsletter the way I did after TinyLetter shut down.

For the new folks, a lengthier explanation: check out this post if you want to learn the details, but long story short: I can't send the newsletter as e-mails anymore, so instead I decided to provide you with a ready copy of the entire thing. I prepared formatted copies of the whole newsletter - September 15th to May 26th - as an .odt file, as a .pdf file, and most importantly as an .epub file, because I assume most of you are reading on your phones (if you don't already have an .epub reader, I use FBReader, and everything worked fine on my phone). At the beginning you'll find the whole table of contents with hyperlinks, so the navigation inside the document should be easy!

The MEGA folder can be accessed right here, and it's available for everyone!

In the folder linked, you'll also find a calendar file made by @none-ofthisnonsense that you can download on your phone and import into your calendar app so that all days when we read are marked in your calendar!

This post is a little bit about me ranting, but mostly about education and how to appreciate fanarts on socials. Please I'm not trying to hurt anybody, I just realised today that, maybe, there are things we artists all need to say one day, and so it's my turn.

A very kind person (Thanks again, dear.) just told me that someone was reposting my art, without even naming me, on a public group on Facebook. I reported it to the admins, but I still don't know if they will do something about this problem, or if they'll do nothing about it or if they'll simply kick me out of their group so I won't be able anymore to see what they are doing with my reposted art. So, for now, I won't cite this Public group.

So. Hello, my name is Elenthya Olyenths, a.k.a @searchingforakeythatdoesntexist on Tumblr.

And my art has been stolen. Again.

Even if there was my signature on it, and a discrete stamp with my name right in the middle of the canvas. It's... awful to see. Because this time, it's clearly not from someone who doesn't know yet the basic "share and reblog but DO NOT REPOST" rule. And it's not someone who reposted my art crediting the wrong name either because they have found my art with the wrong name, in a illegal re-post on another social.

This time, it's someone who downloaded my art pictures, reposted it in the same order, and even copy-pasted my personal explanations (about my injured wrist!!). The stealing intention is quite clear.

(and please don't tell me it's probably a bot aka a programm doing it, because we will never know but it FEELS THE SAME AWFULLY WRONG and whatever, if it's a bot, someone DO has created this bot and so we need to talk about this and teach to people how to recognise a illegal repost.)

So, please, dear Good Omens fans, and my dear fellows from other fandoms.

I just want to kindly remind you all that seeing our art reposted, even with credits, even with our signature, is very hard to live for us artists.

Please, if you see an official artist post that you like, think about using the "share" functions (reblog on tumblr, "Share" on FB and Instagram, etc...), it helps us artists to see where and how our art is appreciated. And for me it's a wonderful way to bring back motivation to me and then to draw/write even more. 𝐒𝐞𝐞, 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫f𝐮𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐧-𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬! *^__^*

And about reposting art but crediting the artist with the @ (like in here @searchingforakeythatdoesntexist):

Sometimes it's quite okay... but not so great in my own personal opinion. Because it still might be misunderstood by other fans that can't always see the @ and just repost the art with the reposter wrong name on it - or whitout any name at all, which is not better.

Signatures and stamps and watermarks can help us to avoid these problems, but reposting art whitout explicit and personal agreement from the artist is still a issue and in my humble opinion it's NOT RIGHT.

Can I repost your work? I don't mind as long as I'm credited. I'm less okay with my work being used as a pageviews grab, but it's probably not worth my time to care. If it's something I've selected to take down and don't have posted anymore, don't. If you can't find a place I have it posted, then default assume you shouldn't repost it. If it's something you commissioned, go for it. You don't need to credit me every time you share it. Once in a while is cool.

Are you okay with fanart? What about OC interactions? Can I post it? Sure, just don't profit off of it and please credit me. If you want to draw my OCs interacting with yours that's also fine (and fun!)- though I prefer situations where their actions make sense. Alf wouldn't make your character cry, for example. He's grumpy but not cruel. Posting it is fine. Is it okay if I take inspiration from your art and concepts? I've been in a situation in recent years where another artist has taken far, far too much. It's a subject I'm pretty burnt out on. I recently saw another artist's take on this and it looked sensible to me. I'm just going to quote theirs. I have tried to find my own words, but right now I find myself more comfortable using someone else's. "Well, if you’re having to ask me for permission, either your design is too similar or you’re being overly nervous about a normal artistic process. You’re absolutely free to use my work as a source of inspiration but I’d strongly encourage you to think about the details from my design you like most, and remix them with other concepts into your own unique take."

Taking inspiration is something everyone does, but please don't become a shadow I get bi-weekly alerts about. Ideally your pool of inspiration will be many artists and concepts re-imagined into something unique to you- and that you're being honest with yourself about the result. Honestly, if you're uncomfortable crediting your source, you already know what you're doing has gone too far.

Your art is being copied! / Will you tell me who the copy cat is? I get a lot of messages about this and am tired. I'm sure if my art ends up somewhere it shouldn't be or there's something really worth my attention I'll find out through friends. Otherwise, I'm just sayin' get a second or third opinion before coming to my inbox. I probably already know about it.

I sent you a message and you didn't respond. Sorry about that. I tend not to stress about messages because it can be a drain. You're more likely to get a response if you let me know from the get go what you want, but nothing is guaranteed. Sometimes I didn't see it, sometimes I got busy or forgot, sometimes I plan to do it later, sometimes I just opted out. It's not personal. Where do you Rp? Are you looking for more partners? Discord mostly. Roleplay consumes a lot of time so these days I mostly only play with my buddy Thema. I probably wouldn't have time to play, but I like to hang around people that do and I don't mind being asked. Just please don't be sad if I never get around to responding! I'm most compatible with people who are comfortable with radio silence.

Can I use your characters in roleplay/as roleplay refs? Considering I actively roleplay my OCs and there's a potential for confusion, I'd rather you didn't. Though I think there's a difference between linking to my art and saying 'this is my character', and linking to it to say 'this has the mood I'm going for, but here's what's different about my character--'. The latter is fine.

Can I make Fan OCs for your setting? Thinking about this makes me tired. Maybe I'll get to a point where I'm more comfortable later, but for now I'd rather you didn't make something directly from my worlds. But lets be real, you don't need my permission to draw cat monsters and I take a huge amount of inspiration from ancient history. Many of my concepts are inspired by things that you can read about and be inspired too. If you see something and are curious if there's a historical source, just ask. Hopefully I'll remember.

Do I have permission to draw NSFW art of your characters? No, for a plethora of reasons, some easy to explain and some not, but I probably can't stop you. Just don't profit off of it or show it to me. Accepting that I can't stop it doesn't change how I feel about it or that my answer is no. What about vore? If I haven't explicitly given you permission to do that, I'd rather you didn't go there. I always ask a creator for permission before I go there with their OC, I'd like the same respect.

I'm having. So many Uchiha Houhua thoughts. Like I know so much of his existence is geared towards survival but. The hc of Uchiha's use of war fans,I have to wonder if he ever finds him half heartedly fiddling with a delicate seeming Tessen, remebering an old friend now far gone, just as razor edged and yet still missed.

And it may be my own fondness for the concept of a spider summons but so much of spider behavior is "Please Leave Me Alone" which is very on brand for Houhua. Camouflage and careful, delicate and yet still so dangerous, setting invisible webs between leaves and waiting for the worse predators to pass. (Also using spider venom to fuck with his heartrate for the possum jutsu maybe?)

The entire concept is so delightful and I'm very thankful to have seen all your little tidbits on it

Ough,, Houhua unable to look at war fans without thinking about both SY and SQQ,,,

I think it's actually especially fun to think ab like. The difference in fighting style between (Japanese) Uchiha styled war fan techniques and (Chinese) Cang Qiong Sect war fan techniques. Not even counting the much more specific Qing Jing Peak style of fan techniques.

That also goes double for sword techniques, especially considering the plans for Houhua to go into sword smithing.

Houhua has literal decades of the Cang Qiong sect sword style engraved into his fucking bones. Into his soul, even, if you consider the whole 'cultivators swords are usually tied to their spirits in some way' thing.

He's going to have the worst time trying to switch to Uchiha sword styles-- though I think the sharingan + the unfamiliar, tiny body without all the muscle memory of his past life will help him at least get his footing

,, Hey, is muscle memory held in the actual muscle or is it held in the brain? That's a thought.

ALSO. THE SPIDERS.

I. I cant lie to u, you are making an amazing argument rn for him having a spider summons. I love the idea sm, I am now faced w the ultimate dilemma of choosing between a spider contract or a rat contract.

On one hand, they both carry undertones of like 'there might be a bit more to see here than just a coward' bc of the associated (mostly negative) connotations of rats and spiders both being like, underhanded, sneaky, that sort of thing. But the spider tho,,, ough,, it also shows a side of implied manipulation that might be fun just from the angle of like.

Yeah you'd expect him to have some sort of rodent contract but hes actually been designated spider coded by the universe, actually.

I forget if I posted this snippet yet or if I only posted it on the discord but take this really quick:

So like. This moment, where Kabuto bets Houhua will get some form of rodent contract (for obvious reasons) while Hana bets he gets a fucking worm. But now make it even funnier bc they're both wrong and he got a spider contract.

This could also maybe play interesting into Houhua and Kabuto's sort of ongoing quiet squinting in eachothers direction as they both go 'this guy isnt as simple as he seems...' as Kabuto mentally recalculates some of Houhua's behavior

This also can just bring out a pretty fun "hey so lets talk about in universe stereotypes and associations when it comes to summoning animals" which I just think is fun. Like, culturally, what does it mean to have a contracted animal? Do some people treat it like they might astrology personality tests? Do some people think its just nonsense and pure luck or not that deep?

For some people it probably isn't that deep, while for others (specifically those who might come from families who always have the same contract, or others who sign blank contracts where they really are sent to an animal that matches them best) it really is a good way to try and analyze them

And like. Where does that leave Houhua?

This could also just be fun for when he interacts w Orochimaru, who fucking hates bugs (insert my own personal favorite hc here that he hates them largely in part due to the many times he was stuck inside his own rotting body, infested with bugs)

And like, Houhua and Orochimaru will inevitably interact, though I'm not 100% sure on how it goes just yet. But like. Houhua having a spider contract and Orochimaru coincidentally hating spiders. Could be funny.

PLUS YOU'RE SO RIGHT FOR LIKE. SPIDER VENOM POSSIBLY PLAYING INTO HIS PLAYING DEAD ACT. UR SO SMART FOR THAT.

Anyways. Yeah ok I think spider contract Houhua would go pretty hard for multiple reasons. Give him a big fluffy spider with big ol eyes.

Houhua can maybe get another contract further down the line and then get the rodents he deserves.

I made a starbound blorbo ! i got bored the other day and decided to make a lil creature ! astro is loosely based off of a spiral type galaxy; which in my mind lends itself to extra arms and some silly shapes. cosmos has got a black hole for a heart - because galaxy - as well as one ending off its tail! it's joints are made of larger stars, having a functional purpose of keeping their limbs Mostly attached - while it's star-freckles are considerably smaller, and are pretty much just human freckles but star shaped and colored. the holes are mostly there bc I thought they looked cool - but do also lend themself to the whole idea that space is ever shifting and also like . something about imperfections . shrug.

i don't have Too Much lore thoughts in regards to it, other than that man . it's such a little shit .

This is mostly a question for folks I know or have interacted with, so I'm hoping it doesn't break containment and get me screamed at by randos, but I see posts like this one sometimes and just... really hope people aren't downloading and making copies of my fics and art without permission??

I know it's a tricky subject and I'm very much in favor of AO3, Open Doors, and other fanworks archives. Fandom is a part of culture. It's important to study, and it's also great for people to be able to reread (and re-look at/listen to) their favorite fanworks.

I also realize that once you've put something on the internet, you no longer have any control over it.

However, this recent push to download and makes copies of others' fanworks edges a little too close to art theft for my liking.

As someone who's been making fanart since the 90s, I've had my images stolen more times than I can count. And while it's worse when other people use it to make money, it also REALLY REALLY sucks when they pass it around with little or no credit given, talking amongst themselves and never saying anything nice to me about it. I've had people do this in Discord servers, on Tumblr, AO3, Instagram, tiktok, Twitter, Pinterest, and doubtless other social media. In my opinion, all of that is art theft.

Fan creators have the right to delete their works—hell, I deleted all of my art from Tumblr years ago and have also deleted lots of older images from AO3. Yes, I could orphan them, but then I would lose all control over them, which is the opposite of what I want (I know that deleting them from Tumblr only removes them from my account, but that was the best I could do). If I delete something from AO3, I think it goes without saying that I don't want other people distributing copies they might have made of it. And I don't think that's unreasonable?? But I've seen numerous cases where fan creators have deleted something, and then other people start passing around files of the works, which just seems deeply wrong to me?

Another reason I personally don't like it when people copy my works without permission is because I edit my published fics and art sometimes. So if someone downloads them rather than going to my AO3—where they might be more likely to let me know they actually liked the thing—they'll never see any improvements or changes I might have made. Honestly, I wish it was possible to entirely turn off the 'download' button on all of my works just to make it a little harder to copy them (yes, I realize this would make it so Calibre doesn't work, but I think AO3's efforts to block spam and ai scrapers means that Calibre doesn't work anyway, so 🤷).

I do think fanbinding is a bit different, because the person using your work is making another fanwork out of it. It's transformative. They're not just printing it on shitty paper and stuffing it in a binder without asking your permission first—that's not transformative.

Anyway, idk, it's a tricky and nuanced subject. But I think the bare minimum that people can do before they copy someone's fanworks is to ask them for permission?? Isn't that what permissions statements are for? Even blanket permission is generally only meant to let others makes transformative works based on your works. I've never seen anyone say "yeah feel free to copy my stuff word-for-word or pixel-by-pixel and do whatever you want with it for all time." And that's basically what posts like the one I linked to above are suggesting.

So idk, what do y'all think?
