Hi hello, I'm no real writer so take this with a salt shaker, but it honestly is up to you on this one as much as that sucks for you. The “how do you do pre and post discovery of gender” is something that seems… divisive on the internet, and what few physical writers I know seem to share the problem. There are some people who believe that if they will come out, you shouldn’t necronym/noun them. There are people who think that once they have realized it themselves you should work around their pronouns/name until a reveal. There are those who believe that you shouldn’t change anything until they verbally reveal the change. The only thing about specifically the pronouns that seems agreed upon is to use good judgment. Personally, I would recommend using deadname and nouns verbally until reveal. I understand the other thought types (I think?), but it tends to make you feel the hand of the author the longer you use misderects or blockouts. It CAN be done well, like in the winning hats au with winnifred’s bias, but generally if you’re going for a longer story I recommend letting them scrape their knee on the fall. Sorry if uncalled for or rude!

The points you brought up made me realize that the first major appearances for the trans character is post-transition, a detail that I think really matters and I'm surprised I didn't consider it. Since the character in their debut and for a big chunk of the overall story is going to be seen entirely as their chosen self and identity (wording may be bad there lol I'm a bit tired as of answering)

I think that, for what I'm working on, as long as I make it clear that any past stuff that's pre-transition is in fact this same character I'll be okay? Hopefully? Thankfully I have a boon regarding the character's name, since they didn't change it between these two major stages of their life, so it's mostly just presentation + pronouns that are going to be different (including the character's behavior but I don't wanna get too into how dysphoria can affect behaviors rn)

(I will also note I have been using they/them for the character in question, mostly because I'm preferring to keep the specific character vague since this topic applies to two entirely different stories I'm working on)

Was talking to my friends yesterday about how a lot of words in english that are considered "fancy" or "academic" are of latin origin vs the "basic" words that tend to be germanic (oversimplification but i digress) and earlier today I spontaneously thought to myself "Deadname (germanic) vs necronym (latinate)". 1. I don’t know if I don’t have one specific lesson, but if i had to choose it would maybe be like ‘don’t be an asshole for no reason’, I think that’s my main way of just being alive
