This is Jim Sinclair, at the time going by Toby. They are a neuter, asexual and intersex enban, and a seminal autism activist. They have been an educator on transneutral nonbinary identity, non-binary transition, the anti binarist position and intersex issues for decades. This is an interview with them from the 1980s, talking about their experience as a non-binary/genderqueer person at a time where the community was just coming together.

"In a 1997 introduction to the Intersex Society of North America, Sinclair wrote, "I remain openly and proudly neuter, both physically and socially."

Woke up this morning and I felt like I couldn’t use our voice for a couple seconds and then it cracked and got a lot lower then ever before- I could feel my eyes light up and a smile spread across our face as we exclaimed, “ Is that my voice!?!? THATS MY VOICE!!!” We couldn’t be happier right now.

Heyyy guys wtf I started testosterone yesterday and I gave myself my first injection and it wasn’t so bad!! and it’s something I’ve been wanting for over a decade and the world is scary but I’m really excited and happy and grateful to have this agency for now at least <3 sending love to my fellow transsexuals and queers and weirdos there is so much beauty in self-creation woah i feel all twinkly in my heart :’)

:3 my mom just sent me a cute text & for some reason i think my irl friends wouldn’t comment on it, so i wanna put it here

i’m nonbinary, and (unironically) it took my mother downloading tiktok to be able to process this & accept it more readily & support me over the course of the last 3+ years. (i came out in my junior year of high school (as binary trans), a decade+ ago!)

i sent her a journal entry i wrote after watching IF (for the 2nd time), cuz I simply didn’t wanna rewrite everything, and there was nothing in the entry i didn’t want her to see.

she replied with the sweetest msg that went something like this:

Hi [gender neutral pet name]! Thank you so much for sharing your journal. It is so sweet and nice to see how you think and feel sometimes. You are such a grown up version of my [legal name] when [agab] was 12. It is amazing to see how you grow but stay the same in so many ways. I Love it and you more than you can know!

and after I replied expressing my gratitude & love back, she goes

You are an awesome human

so… wails and falls into a pile on the floor!

i hope ur relationship with ur family evolves into something u can find joy in, and if that’s not possible right now, i hope u have people in ur life who give u that instead. ok yes thank u for reading bye!!
