***UPDATE***
I did some snooping of my own as well as had people find or rule some out (I’ll probably continue to update this as we go on so to check the updated list return to the original post instead of the reblogs)
Alright, by popular demand here it is. There are likely things on here that may not exist yet because the map is from before the finales or don't exist at all or aren’t on this map (these items will be marked DNE - does not exist). I don't know, but that's part of the fun I suppose. :) Feel free to leave the answers in my asks, tag me, or just use the tag: #dsmp scavenger hunt so I can find your posts. <3 Good Luck!
DSMP Scavenger Hunt
Places
1. Staged Duo Island [related post]
✔️2a. Map #1 - Found ✔️2b. Map #4 from Dream’s wall in his bedroom cell [related post] (hopefully they are oriented right, I based it on the other wall maps’ orientation) - Found
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2b. is Sam's Base at -3803 70 -3926 [post] (seems the map was oriented wrong oops, my bad... apparently it was right on his wall)
2a. has been determined by @sumwan to be a map of a more completed version of Sam’s handmade retirement island [post] (which is not actually shown in its completion on the dsmp map we were given, but is another mystery solved nonetheless :D)
✖️3. Quackity's storage room (what is in the chests?) [clip] - DNE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given the look of this room and the presumed general area based off of the stream, I searched everywhere and am going to say this no longer exists and must have be changed since April 2021, perhaps it was part of a Las Nevadas building during construction… so no new torture method lore I guess :[
4. Quackity’s birthday poster (does it really say he’s 28? Or that his birthday is on December 28?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Dream’s house (does he actually have one that’s not the prison or his old secret base)
✖️6a. Revival Book Lab [clip] - DNE ✖️6b. Punz's secret underground room - DNE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6b. The finale secret room has been confirmed to not have been built yet [post]
6a. It is a general consensus at this point that because Punz's tower does not appear the same as in the video that the video was filmed on a different map so there is no lab.
✖️7. Dream’s bed for respawning in the disc confrontation (it had to be close for him to get there so fast [related post]) - DNE [post]
✔️8. Warden’s prison stasis chamber on the outside [clip] - Found [post]
9. Does Quackity have an in Minecraft calendar? (that Dream mentions [clip] & is shown in vod)
Tumblr media
10. Did they make a replica of the cell for the scrapped lore and just never filmed it?
Items
✔️11. Books Dream gave to Techno in prison (are they all empty?) - Found
No, the one labeled Dream says “dear technoblade” and the others also have things in them, not necessarily super notable but not nothing [post].
➖12. Dream’s letter to Techno - Maybe?
There is a world in which it could perhaps be the Dream book with “dear technoblade” in it [post] because that is what the scene ends on [clip].
13. Revival Book
14. Are there multiple Enderboo prison waivers for multiple visits?
➖15. The OG pink bed (shown in old enderchest [from this post] but not later) - Unfindable
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So there are actually a shit ton of pink beds on the server a result of Eret’s ‘you matter <3’ pink wool and the og pink sheep at the community house no doubt. So I think this will be pretty impossible, unless we find something that seems like Dream’s house which has a pink bed.
✔️16. Does Dream have any named possessions? - Yes
Tumblr media
A fish named J DAWG, good on Sneapeekay for giving Dream a pet, our boy has an attachment now :) [post]
17. Dreamrider [clip]
Tumblr media
✔️18a. Dream’s blue shield - Found 18b. Smile shield from staged finale
Tumblr media Tumblr media
18a. George still has it in his ender chest :) [post]
*40. Bonus Addition - Sam’s missing Warden items [related post] including : 40a. WARDENS WILL 40b. His armor and ✔️ 40c. His trident Wardens Mercy - Found [post]
Enchantments
✔️19. Enchantments of Quackity’s netherite low durability axe - Found
Tumblr media
Efficiency V and Mending [post]
✔️20. Enchantments of Quackity’s diamond sword - Found
Sharpness I [same post as axe]
✔️21. Enchantments of Quackity’s diamond pickaxe - Found
Tumblr media
Fortune II and Efficiency III [same post as axe]
✔️22. Dream’s armor enchantments after prison (how does it compare to Nightmare?) - Found
Pretty comparable as far as main enchants go, but definitely missing the extra frills [post] (thank you to @sumwan for finding Nightmare)
Questions
✔️23. Would Techno and Dream have been able to escape from under the cell? [clip] - I think EVENTUALLY Yes [post]
✔️24. Is the End completely untouched? [related post] - Yes
@blockgamepirate has made the observation that no End file exist so presumably they never went to the end before the finale.
✔️25. Are the cow and sheep still at the disc confrontation vault? - No
Tumblr media
Just For Fun - Where are these?
✔️26. KSI portraits from sex class (are there any still around?) - Yes
Tumblr media
I do not have the plugin but all maps seem to still be in the school.
27. DEFINITELY NOT PENIS
✔️28. Dream’s Diary - Found
It was still in the cell.... [post]
29. “thanks for visiting” prison book
30. The :) book Sapnap gives to Ranboo from Dream in prison
31. Sam’s book that says "I am not an idiot "over and over
32. The L’manberg photo from the finale [clip]
Tumblr media
✔️33. Are there any Tales of the SMP sets? - Yes
@feyscape has found the City of Mizu at 13979 70 12937 [post]
@feyscape’s website notes that The Town That Never Was is at 843 97 -296 [link]
✔️34. Egg - Found
Oddly, near Bad and Skeppy's mansion and the prison, not the banquet room, at 325 11 -884 [post]
35. Bones and Skeppy’s house (in Egg Finale) [clip]

37. The ocean monuments missing elder guardians (for prison build)?
38a. Fundy's house in mesa 38b. Fundy’s nightmare set in mesa biome [clip]
Tumblr media
✔️39. Dream’s parrot’s grave [Dream's parrot] - Found
Tumblr media
@oduvany has found it at 237 2309 [post]
Helpful Resources
@sumwan’s post [here] tells how to access inventories

Rambling About New Pork City
This is just a long series of ideas for how I envision New Pork City's layout (mostly from planning for my Minecraft build)
Tumblr media
My vision differs a lot from the layout in the game, since that's only a 2D representation of the city, and there's probably a lot we don't see So I want my version of it to fit in a 3D environment, while also having some extra worldbuilding for flavour ^^
So something I've seen debated a few times is where exactly NPC actually is! In the game, we only reach it through a flying limousine, so we don't get any sense of where we've actually gone. It's not marked on the map, and there's not really any strong clues in the city itself to suggest where it's located. (early in development, it was actually gonna be New Pork Island, which is interesting) Personally, I recently started liking the idea that it's actually located in the Death Desert! It's mysteriously blocked off after the timeskip, the only area in the game we can't return to Plus, it's situated right over the 7th Needle, which Fassad presumably lived nearby (like the other Magi), while his floor in the Empire Porky Building is decorated to look like a desert. There's obviously nothing concrete, but that's where I place it in my mind!
Tumblr media
So let's start at the earliest point in the timeline of NPC's development: Porky first arrives in the Nowhere Islands, around the vicinity of Locria's house. They meet, exchange ideas, etc, Porky sways him to his side. Soon after, he starts pulling in his armies and all the people who will form his empire. At the site of his arrival, the Pigmasks begin construction of some very basic buildings. Simple things like barracks, armories, the very first labs, etc. Really just a small compound built around Fassad's house while the empire starts.
Tumblr media
Over time, more and more buildings were added to this spot, expanding upwards and forming a chaotic, mountainous "city," the Pigmask's capital. This is still at the beginning of the Pigmasks' expansion into the Islands, so everything is very shoddy and crude, purely functional and with none of the sophistication of their later structures. (Fassad's house is airlifted out and temporarily relocated elsewhere).
Tumblr media
During the 3 years following the third chapter of the game, as the Pigmasks solidly establish their presence across the Islands, the King deems the old city to be unfit for the grandeur of his empire. As such, the entire city is buried under a mountain of dirt and concrete, to serve as the foundation for the brand new capital of the Nowhere Islands. A shaft is dug from the base of the mountain to its summit, and an elevator is installed to allow for quick travel to the future city.
Tumblr media
3 years after the Pigmasks' arrival in Tazmily Village, New Pork City is finally completed (mostly). It sits on top of the buried husk of the old city, which can still be accessed through several points (the sewers and the MT Apartments are both parts of the old city). A section of the highway leads to the main elevator (now incorporated into the Empire Porky Building, and later into the caves underneath the desert), where newcomers from Tazmily can enter the city. The city itself also contains a landing pad for Porky's private limousine, but this is reserved just for him and his special guest.
The city is arranged so that all the most interesting sights are oriented towards the landing pad, providing the King's guests with the best possible first impression of his empire's capital. Though it's largely a monument to himself, it was also Porky's express desire that New Pork City be the perfect utopia for his special guest, with everything he could possibly dream of.
The entrance to the Empire Porky Building sits at the top of the city, but parts of the building actually extend downwards into the ground, connecting it to the main elevator shaft, which the building sits centered directly on top of. The rest of the city spirals down from the building's entrance, built into and around the mountain's summit. Most of the city is just wooden cutouts of course (including the seemingly-larger city in the background), and as said above, they're all pointed to face towards the limousine pad. As such, the city's entire facade falls apart once one starts to make their way upwards to the top level and passes behind all of the false buildings on their way. Most of these are also placed to cover up the uglier parts of the city, dumpsters and grimy service doors, etc.
Few random things to finish up: There's speakers all over the city constantly blaring music (Porky can also take control of these if he wishes). Heck, they probably have things pumping smells into the streets like Disneyland. Pretty constant rains of confetti, too. Porky snatched a bunch of old-world things from all over the place and scattered them around the city to fill up empty space, hence why there's so many random objects placed everywhere (like the greek pillars, the masks, etc. did that christmas tree belong to someone). He told the Pigmasks to go uproot the coolest tree they could find so he could incorporate it into the city and finally have the world's coolest treehouse. Honestly idk what he was thinking with the Rollercoaster that Just Kills You
So yeah, that's all the stuff I have in my head about New Pork City, minus all the stuff specific to my interpretation of Porky's characterization (which'll be it's own post... some day...) :D And this sort of shows how I wanna go about designing it in Minecraft... still going slow, but it's going! I've figured out a style i think works, and I've figured out a rough idea of how I wanna scale it ^^

super important tmc hcs. ignoring the fact tht terraria and minecraft both came out in 2011
adam terraria: starts a new world every week bc it forgets what he's supposed to be doing next and it never occurs to him to look it up. bro doesn't even know the wiki Exists. never gets to hardmode bc he insists on playing master difficulty and also is bad at the game minecraft: exclusively plays creative mode in superflat worlds. makes ugly box structures out of diamond blocks and performs horrible labrat experiments on mobs in them
jonah terraria: almost exclusively plays journey mode! makes it his mission every time to 100% the research catalogue. the collection aspect of it tickles something in their brain minecraft: exclusively plays modded with like 20 different incredibly complicated tech mods tht each have a 200 page user manual . and also tinker's construct. they r a pro at it
mark terraria: gets to hardmode on expert mode, delves into the underground hallow bc he's excited to explore, gets jumpscared by a naturally spawning hallowed mimic and has a fucking heart attack minecraft: mark operates out of a dirt hut and yknow what fuck you they like it that way. brother rocking the greentop with the oak door. half the floor is gravel. no glass or trap doors for windows, just 1 block holes in the walls and one of the "windows" is blocked by a double chest. fully enchanted netherite and elytra btw
cesar has never played a video game. walks in2 marks room like are ya winnin, bro?
sarah terraria: plays w so many mods and texture packs the game is nigh unrecognizable. plays exclusively master mode and turns on every 'challenge' difficulty that comes with the mods at once bc she's seen the face of god and it was weeping minecraft: girlie is in the minigame servers. find sarah doing tnt run at 3 am she is going for it . good for her
evelin terraria: actually a pretty good builder. uses the wiki as a guide for npc happiness and builds little towns for them. beat moonlord like 2 months ago and just keeps going back to the same world to build stuff minecraft: plays adventure maps bc she thinks they're fun. evelin has played every minecraft horror adventure map that exists. i think she would love terra swoop force too dave terraria: once he gets far enough in a world to get access to wiring it's all over. spends the rest of the game trying to build machines to instant-ko bosses, with varying degrees of success. a master of the hoik minecraft: you know those videos that are like. using redstone to play minecraft in minecraft. yeah ruth terraria: plays vanilla summoner class in master mode for the worthy seed. she is god's strongest soldier and baby she's going for terraprisma. minecraft: spends the entire first night punching skeletons and creepers to death with her bare steve fists. has that Totally Legit Speedrun luck and finds everything she needs just from running around and raiding generated structures
thatcher terraria: terrible at building but god bless he's trying. favorite part of the game is old one's army, and she spends hours grinding to collect all of the sentries and the armor sets. somehow gets spawn camped by a crawdad and cries minecraft: keeps forgetting that you shouldn't make eye contact with endermen and it scares the shit out of her every time. is prone to lava-based mining incidents
jude tries to download minecraft free minecraft cracked no virus 100% safe trust me :) dot exe. is shocked when he gets a virus. how can this be

I've not really played Minecraft in half a decade+, when all the worlds on my old account stopped loading. That said, I think the reason I still periodically go back to it (either as idle interest in changes or to actually play when I'm too tired to do anything else) where I don't with pretty much any other video game isn't just the checks notes third of my life when it was competing with Warhammer as my main fandom - it's something about it as a game that does things nothing else does.
By way of comparison, the only other computer game I play is CK3. But if I want to experience that kind of genre and focus, I can read any of a slew of historical chronicles or especially great-man-y works of actual history;* or I can turn to mediaeval historical fiction; play a dynasty-building board game like Blood Royale or a medieval strategic wargame map campaign; there's even some TTRPGs that capture the human-scale part of it, though I do think mediaeval high politics is a genre that could be explored more there outside Pendragon.
What's doing the same things Minecraft does? That vast procedural world, all but empty except for you, a few other humans bizarrely different from you, and an enormous number of monsters, many of them humanoid undead; the ruins and lost realms and other dimensions, the general sense that amidst all the endless randomness things have been built before and the encouragement to do so again? The very specific magic (magic as something anybody can make with the right, very expensive ingredients, but which you certainly can't wield willy-nilly). The constant striving for resources, especially through the early game. The ridiculous, deliberate gaminess of it all, the willingness to completely waive any attempt at simulation in favour of links which still intuitively make sense (diamonds are hard, obviously they make the best armour!) The monster design, which is full of unique and bizarre things that I really wish I could steal for D&D campaigns without anybody noticing. Probably the closest thing is actually early D&D, with the players venturing into a vast, hostile wilderness to survive random encounters, make their fortunes, and ultimately rise to lordship of the land; possibly in one of its OSR variants that replaces classes with item choices, like the excellent Iron Halberd. But even there, it's very clearly a different genre which happens to rhyme. And if you try to do something similar outside the medium of a game, in a novel, say, somewhere where the deliberate abstraction from the normal rules of reality isn't taken for granted... as far as I can see, it'd read either as constructed mythology or minecraft fanfic depending on the author's skill.
I think this probably account's for the game's continued popularity to some extent, and certainly it accounts for my own continued interest. *Once I'd have said 'any work of mediaeval history published before 1920' but Burt & Partington's Arise, England! is like this and was published a couple of months ago...

alright back in my dorm. let’s go
so, to explain the cactus ring, i gotta go back to the beginning.
the first episodes of the third life smp (season one of the life series) came out on this day three years ago. (i’ve already explained the main life series gimmick so i will assume you are familiar by now)
one of the most notable events from this episode is grian’s life debt.
you see, grian, being a tricky little guy, led a creeper into a large group of people, hoping to give everyone a scare. however, the creeper exploded (as they often do), killing scar in the process. out of regret at accidentally taking his first life, grian pledged his own first life to scar- as long as his name was green, he would do whatever scar told him to
and so the toxic yaoi begins
grian and scar went on to lay claim to the entire desert, which took up a significant portion of the world map (they’re enclosed in a 700x700 space by a world border btw), in an attempt at claiming a monopoly on sand.
scar Loves scamming people. in session 2, he managed to obtain a set of enchanted armor without actually doing any work himself, by convincing visitors to the desert to swap armor with him in exchange for “reputation points”. this worked despite grian warning everyone against it because scar is the minecraft equivalent of a high charisma dnd character who can’t stop rolling 20’s
scar would also frequently take his armor off to show off his skin (which was shirtless with big muscles) and then forget to put it back on. every time this happened grian would shriek “SCAR, PUT YOUR CLOTHES BACK ON!” and it was funny every time. local sillyguy can’t stop getting naked
in session 3, scar accidentally died again because he wasn’t looking where he was going and ended up falling in a big hole. meaning he was on his red life- the first red life ever- and grian was still bound to him.
at this point, scar was allowed to kill people, but wasn’t very good at pvp or making traps. grian is good at making explosive traps, Loves killing people, and has a lot of ideas on how to do it, but isn’t allowed to. the solution? grian uses his servitude to scar as an excuse to kill people by pulling the old “i was just following orders, scar made me!” while also gleefully murdering people and being the one to come up with and suggest the ideas on how to do it
(because grian’s doing what scar says and acting helpless, but at the same time he was very much the one with the power there, and for all his complaining he enjoyed allying with scar quite a lot)
fast forward to session 6, where grian finally loses his green life and is no longer indebted to scar. he’s spent the whole time up til now complaining and saying that the Second he dies, he’s out- but then he realizes he can’t leave scar, and goes back to him anyways, in a W move for toxic yaoi
fast forward again to session 8. there are only three people left: grian, scar, and bdubs (whose unending loyalty had been bought by scar about five minutes beforehand). grian’s on yellow, scar and bdubs are both red- and scar turns on grian, using bdubs to knock him down to his red life. grian is understandably pissed, and returns hungry for revenge for scar’s betrayal- only for scar to murder bdubs himself, apologize, and willingly surrender himself to grian.
scar says “for everything you have done to keep me alive this long, you may slay me and take the enchanter.” (scar had been fixated on stealing rendog’s enchanting table for several weeks at this point). grian says “no, i can’t, i licherally can’t. the spectators want a fight.”
the other people who had lost their third life that day were still hanging around in spectator mode, and they wanted a final fight between grian and scar. so the two head up back together to the ruins of their base in the desert, and use the cactus they have left to construct a fighting ring.
grian and scar then remove all of their armor and weapons, (previously established as getting naked btw), and proceed to beat each other to death in the ring of cactus with their bare hands, apologizing to each other the whole time.
tumblr being the gay sex website, we as a fandom agreed that this was undeniably gay sex in its truest form, and thus the phrase “they fucked in that cactus ring” was born!
tldr: happy birthday third life
everything makes sense now

Hiii Rye, how does your tagging system work? I'm guessing it has something to do with Toki Pona but I'm curious
That's a great question, let's go through some of the tags I use in this blog.
Also. This will be a bit long.
GENERAL TAGS
The most well known and used is ofc, #ryeblog ,which is given to any post I reblog. It comes from "rye" and "reblog". Another interesting fact is that when I reblog many posts in a short time, I call it a "ryeblitz" (ryeblog + blitz [German for lightning).
For original text-based posts of mine, the tag is #handful of grains, which comes from the fact that I am Rye; but also because originally there was a tag called #sack of grain that never got used and was intended for large text-based original posts.
Images and videos get #pics and flicks, except if these are art. If the art was posted by the artist it gets #art of them and if it's someone else's art it gets #art of those.
#letters to rye will be the tag used in this post, as it is for the asks I answer.
#poll #tag game #ask game #quiz Self explanatory.
Prev tags get marked with #Previously on Tags: and then I mark my answer to those with a #My reaction to that information:
MEDIA TAGS
Quite self explanatory, if I'm reblogging some cute art from blorbo from my shows, tags would look like
#ryeblog #art of them #my shows
Must be understood that this system isn't 100% reliable. If I don't have a tag for a media because I have no knowledge of it or even interest; it won't get a tagged or have a tag.
Imagine this, a fanart featuring characters from the shows A, B, C and D. I only have tags for B and C. Only appliable media tags are #B and #C.
This is why you can find stuff like few Chainsaw Man fanart in my blog, but a tag for Chainsaw Man doesn't actually exist. When I reblog Out of Touch Thursday, I don't do it with a tag for the Lucky Star anime. Characters don't have tags in my system.
I can't give a full list of all of them, but here's the top 45 as of now:
#moomin
#deltarune
#sparklecare
#toh (The Owl House)
#sonic the hedgehog
#dhmis (Don't Hug Me I'm Scared)
#su (Steven Universe)
#tf2 (Team Fortress 2)
#pokemon
#lwa (Little Witch Academia)
#hatsune miku [Ok. It's ironic that this is a character. There's no tag for Vocaloid btw. Cuz of my lack of knowledge on the matter.]
#mlp
#minecraft
#fnaf (Five Nights at Freddy)
#undertale
#bluey
#danganronpa
#homestuck
#breaking bad
#cunk on earth [It applies to other media with Philomena Cunk like "Cunk on Britain"]
#neil cicierega [Technically a person. Applies to all his work. Forgot to mention, artists and bands also fit in this category.]
#tove jansson [Again. A person. This tag exists to not tag her with #moomin in non-Moomin issues.]
#talking heads [Again, a band.]
#jerma985 [A person.]
#spiderman
#undertale 2 [Yep. That's a game. A parody fan-game RPG of Undertale. This tag isn't for Deltarune. I found many people tagging Deltarune as Undertale 2.]
#animal crossing
#hetalia
#loz (Legend of Zelda)
#adventure time
#epithet erased
#lemon demon [Again, an artist; also not everything Neil Cicierega does is for Lemon Demon. This is why this tag is also a thing.]
#omori
#mcyt (Minecraft YouTuber)
#tally hall [A band.]
#barbie
#doctor who
#ghibli
#tetris
#touhou
#ytp
#ella minnow pea
#ena
#they might be giants [A band.]
#alexkansas [Applies to all his work. Currently MISTERMANTICORE]
NOT THAT SPECIFIC TAGS. THEY ARE THE SAME LEVEL AS THESE
#the past for the stuff about the past. The limit of how old has to be the thing to be tagged with this is 20 years.
#language is for everything linguistics, scripts, phonetics, anything of that matter and related. This tag isn't for swear swords, those bitches don't fucking get tagged.
#chemistry #geology #toki pona [An artistic constructed language by Sonja Lang] #handwriting #cursive #flags [Because vexillology was too long and I never knew if I was writing it right] #maps #biology #philately [#stamps is out of use] #reaction image ,etc.
MEET THE SPECIFICS
These tags exists because I have decided to.
TAGS THAT USE TOKI PONA WORDS
#pilin This Toki Pona word describes many concepts, like feelings, emotions, the heart in its both physical and emotional form. However, in this blog, this tag shall only be used for the heart (organ or not) and heart shapes and heart-shaped things.
#kili This word describes fruits and vegetables, all the edible parts of a plant. I also use this tag for stuff made with kili, like French fries, jam and jelly or milkshakes.
#mun This word doesn't just describe the Moon but also all night-sky objects and space objects. This tag replaced the now abandoned #astronomy as stuff like a blanket with sun and moon motifs or the fanart of a furry on the Moon aren't quite related with the science of space.
#kala This word describes fish and all the aquatic animals. Axolotls, whales, jellyfish and crabs may not be fish, but they sure are kala.
#pan As a Spanish speaker you probably have realised this word is for bread. That's right, it's for grains and all grain products. Stuff that is pan but not bread: tortilla, beer, peanut butter, crackers, communion wafers, tejuino. This tag isn't for pansexuality, Tumblr just colours it like that.
#pipi The word for insects and all the little bugs and crechurs, so it includes stuff like spiders and worms.
#waso The word for birds, flying animals and winged animals.
#soko The word for fungi. This tag replaced #mycology.
#akesi The word for reptiles. This tag isn't used for "non-cute animals" as the original meaning of the word expressed and was corrected in 2021.
#kijetesantakalu The word to describe procyonids and musteloids, like ferrets, racoons and tanukis. For the non-Toki Pona speakers. The reason why this word is long and very specific is because it's an April Fools joke that just got too popular.
#in front of them sensors I wears glasses, I like characters that wear them too. So this tag is for that. It also applies to stuff like sport/lab goggles, sunglasses and other eyewear.
#the florist's For flowers. The name is as in a flower shop, just like the butcher's or the chemist's.
#city made of light For photographs of, or art depicting urban light during the night. The night scared us, so we killed it; some beautiful examples of this massacre to our health are Times Square, the Las Vegas strip or Hong Kong neon capital of the East.
#KÖT For cats! The word "köt" isn't for cat in any language btw.
#i do the squeaking For ratas and mice. Tag name based on that one post with the mousegirl house wife.
I don't tag furries for some reasons: First is, what is a furry? Are Moomins furry? Are Sonic characters furries? Furries' opinion on what is furry and what is not a large broad spectrum of thoughts. Second is so people don't block furries from me. If you don't wanna see furries, go and try and see how many tags you need to block to see none, and you will still see some cuz not everyone tags. Also, furries don't get tagged any of the animal tags.
#boyfriendposting Those posts that are like "yeah, sorry that your boyfriend..."
#fake posts Those posts that are made to look like many and have some theme.
#fauxnetics People trying to spell pronunciation using non-standarized methods like the IPA, usually just causing more confusion. Example: "How do you pronounce Chara? Car-uh, Care-uh, Chair-uh or Char-uh?"
#illinois chess Games (doesn't have to be chess, but if chess, funky non-standard chess) [usually board games] with strange setting or rules, impossible to understand. Tag named after this thing from 20020.
#present as the past from the future Meme/joke posts describing modern/contemporany history or the current world as how we speak of the past. Example: "Cowboys were a sort of itinerant warrior class common in Meiji-era Texas."
#rainbow #emoji #ethanol [Alcohol found in drinking alcoholic beverages] #radiation #tbh creature #tea #picrew #9/11 #plush #tell-o-phone [Telephones] #tell-o-vision [Televisions] #jesus #gastronintestinal issues #isobutyl propionic acid [Ibuprofen] #rain #butane [Alkane of four carbon atoms, fuel in cigarette lighters] #loss ['Loss' by Tim Buckley for Ctrl+Alt+Del] #snow #blåhaj #R-Ë-PLANE [Airplanes and similar aircraft.] #ZUG [German for trains. Anything on rails.] #mpreg [Male pregnancy] #cool S [This one.] #aspirin ,etc, probably there are more.
I hope this ask has answered your doubts. There's probably more tags out there.
Now for an example.
Example.
Tag-relevant details: A Sparklecare Cometcare AU fan art piece made and posted by Edward featuring Barry Ill and Uni Sock Cornelius in a night picnic. Uni is wearing her rose-tinted goggles, holding a milkshake with a cherry on top, there's another one present next to Barry. Barry is holding a sandwich with visible lettuce and tomato, there's another one next to Uni. The picnic blanket has the colours of the rainbow. There are stars and hearts around them, the picnic case also had a heart detail. On the field there are white small flowers.
Tags: #ryeblog #art of them #sparklecare #in front of them sensors #kili #pan #rainbow #pilin #mun #the florist's
The tags after the Sparklecare one could be in any order.
And this is an ideal case. As I have stated, I'm not 100% reliable and this sytem isn't either. I sometimes miss some tags.
As a final detail. Comments about the post will go after all of these tags and will have proper sentence capitalization and punctuation. This is the hierarchy the tags go which I sometimes miss too.

Okay but imagine if there’s a Minecraft server that is shared by a whole bunch of DS9 staff and crew. It’s full of all kinds of interesting shit. There are folks who pretty much always stick to the same friends and work on the same builds together, which can be EPIC BEYOND EPIC… just imagine the engineers all figuring out how to construct an entire redstone theme park. But the world is also full of stuff that’s just ABANDONED. Some of it is simply from individuals or teams that “finished” or got bored with whatever they were doing. Sometimes they’ve left signs explaining what they built or at least their names. Throughout the wilderness between major builds, it’s possible to encounter strange little spots where people have put inexplicable landmarks. there are natural formations that have been lit up, or decorated. In this living, infinitely malleable world, sometimes abandoned builds are adopted and expanded. Sometimes this results in incredible marriages or catastrophes of alien aesthetics.
There are places that become memorials for fallen comrades. Designated by pillars of light marking their parameters, they are surrounded in potted flowers, signs, and in-game books where visitors have left messages and memories.
Some players are explorers more than they are builders, and so there are maps showing the way to major attractions. Officers from Starfleet who come to DS9 on temporary assignment often end up being the ones to update old maps and expand into new areas—it suits their schedules. And no matter which way you set out, no matter how far you go, just when it seems there must surely be nothing else in a given direction, somehow there is always someone else’s project suddenly THERE, and a new flag to place on the map.
One day, someone finds Cardassia.
It’s hidden cleverly. Someone passing through a memorial build during the night (obviously there is no griefing enabled where there is grieving) notices the glow of an activated portal coming from a most puzzling and unlikely angle. Passing through it, they find themselves in a part of the Nether so vast it fades into bright smoke in every direction. There is nothing… nothing… nothing… except a hole directly in front of their feet. A leap of faith, a fall from grace, a floor of slime, a quick reflex, a SECOND portal, miles below the first.
And beyond that… an Ancient City—or a place that began as one. The perfect foundations upon which to build a reproduction of Ses’erakh, Cardassia’s capital. Every street surrounding the Imperial Plaza is as it should be. Monuments, museums, headquarters, and homes are all there, close enough to the real thing to feel like home, and navigate just as easily.
Weirdly, though, the place is also populated. The Architect has spawned villagers to wander around, and arranged for every Villager to be a Farmer. It’s incongruous, and incomprehensible, but it wasn’t done to be understood by you. It was done by the Architect whose own avatar is also made to look like a Farmer Villager, —whose own house is built from blocks of glass and bookshelves, who has armor stands for housemates dressed in enchanted colored leather (Binding), and who sometimes ceases building and instead wanders through his own creation, placing pots of orchids in the doorways, or slaying Villagers as they sleep, only to join them at their gathering bells during their next day cycle and throw bread at them so that they are disposed to make more children.
DS9 episode where Jake and Nog start playing Minecraft together. They start fighting because Jake uses the resources to build stuff and Nog wants to use the resources to sell to the villagers.
Quark hates Minecraft because "the economic systems doesn't make sense. Who would give an emerald to someone for two cooked chickens? And who would pay 3 emerald for 1 book, mind you, it's not even enchanted!"

Do you know any games about building houes or settlements? I had an idea about a minecraft one shot but haven't found anything that fits.
Hello! I have a few that might fit the bill. Here are a number of great town (and world)-building games for you to check out!
Theme: Town-builders.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grasping Nettles, by adamebell
A small town lies stranded on the wrong half of a planet split in two. An isolated city of flame stands in defiance of a frozen wasteland. The moon colony established by the Apollo 11 mission finds life-lengthening compounds on its surface. A city explodes out of the Prismatic Sea at the convergence point of dozens of leylines.
Grasping Nettles is a worldbuilding game for 1-6 players about a community and its story over the course of generations. You take turns dictating various things about a world of your creation. On your turn, you move one of three faction pieces around a central game board called the Wheel and perform the action you land on. Actions include defining factions, describing locations, discovering issues, creating characters, starting projects, catching glimpses of other communities, and framing scenes.
The art for this game is intriguing and draws you in; and the open-endedness means that you have the liberty to be as creative as you desire! It’s designed to help you build a world where you can then proceed to play in, regardless of which system you choose afterward. The game comes with seeds of worlds in case you have trouble getting started. There is also a design guide, as well as a space supplement called Stellar Nettles that you can check out, created by emmv.
Ex Novo by Sharkbomb Studios.
Ex Novo is a playable city-generator that helps you construct, and populate fictional villages, towns, and cities. This physical game can be played solo or with up to 3 friends. Playtime ranges from 1 to 3 hours.  Meet with your friends, and collaboratively draw the map of your city as you explore the history of its founding, and the forces, factions, and events that shape its development.
The three of you are playing as guardian spirits of a freshly founded settlement. You use d6s and some sets of tokens throughout three phases that set the scene, play out your city's history, and then culminates in a wrapping-up scenario that ties up loose ends. Things will be added to this city as you play, but they might also be taken away! When you're done, you have a city to play with (or just look back and revel in)!
Sharkbomb Studios has also created a dungeon creator in the same spirit as this game, called Ex Umbra.
Before the Beginning, by Rafael Carneiro Vasques
"You and your family are survivors. You survived the old world, you survived each other. Now I'm asking you to survive once again. We need to rebuild the world or we will be part of it's ruins. Yes, cities, communities, pretzels, laughs. We need a city to be citizens. We need houses to belong."
Before the Beginning is a game of scavengers and their families struggling to build a city in a post-apocalyptic world. You will face moral challenges and dangers of all sorts: witches, doomsday religious cults, cyborgs, mutants... everything to build a home, to belong somewhere. Once the city is built, you can finally rest. Until there, there's no room for cowards.
This is a game of exploration and survival - it comes with one page for the players, and one page for the narrator. Building a shelter is if premium importance in this game because you need it to survive - however you’ll have obstacles, such as enemies, injuries, and environmental hurdles to deal with. The layout itself is rather minimalist, reflective of the stark nature of this game.
If you want a game that is incredibly focused in genre and goal, without a lot of rules or lore to figure out before you play, I’d recommend Before the Beginning.
Homes found in Unusual Places, by somewhere with stories.
A collaborative storytelling game about building homes and creating the characters who might live there.
You are playing a game in which each story told adds a layer to a home. The game comes with a list of options to choose from, but it also encourages your own creativity! As the home gets bigger, the stories that surround it (and the people who live in it) grows and grows. You’re going to need a pack of playing cards in order to play this game, rather than dice of any kind. If you want to stretch your creativity in a game that has suggestions, but no dedication to a specific list of prompts, this might be worth checking out!
Beak, Feather & Bone by Possible World Games.
Beak, Feather, & Bone is a collaborative worldbuilding tool as well as a competitive map-labeling RPG. Starting with an unlabeled city map, players are assigned community roles before taking turns claiming and describing locations. Players draw from a standard 52-card deck to determine a building's purpose and then describe its beak (reputation), feather (appearance), and bone (interior). As buildings are claimed, a narrative for the town and its inhabitants emerges, including major NPCs and shifting power-dynamics.
This is a highly-lauded game that allows your characters to watch a city form in front of them, and give them a setting all their own. If you like the mechanics of this game, and want to flesh out your setting even more, another game that uses a similar system but for character and faction generation is Smoke, Fuel & Fire by eldritch mouse.
Greetings From, by C.R. Legge.
Greetings From ______ is a mapmaking/worldbuilding game for 1-6 players. Players take turns moving around the map and creating what they find there. Work together to build a unique world that can be used for other role-playing systems, creating stories, or whatever else you might want to use it for (because sometimes you just want to make a cool map).
This is a game that depends on dice rolls to tell you what kind of feature you’ll be adding to a map. There’s a few rules that you can choose to include on your map-making game, but the basic rules just require a couple of d6s and the breadth of your imagination. The author has a single-page version and a brochure version - which provides you with a grid to use for your map and is honestly, really smart in it’s layout in terms of use of space.
i'm sorry did you say street magic? by Caro Asercion.
An archipelago-based fishing town, separated by its various islands, gathers annually to celebrate the turn of the harvest.
A collective of magical artists embarks on an ambitious project: a guerrilla public transit system powered by enchanted street art.
In a sprawling metropolis decades from now, breakthroughs in biotechnology offer citizens superpowers far beyond mortal ability.
This city that we call home has a magic all its own. It is wonder, and joy, and spirit — and with that spirit, we breathe life into our city together.
i'm sorry did you say street magic is a GMless city-building story game for two to six players, that runs three or more hours.  Discover and imagine a city filled with life and vivid detail, packed with a myriad of neighborhoods, landmarks, and residents. Discover their true names, and the ways that they intersect—then set events in motion that will change or alter their relationships.
This is an enchanting game, with the breadth you need for any city, whether it be fantastical, futuristic, or modern-day. You can mix and match with different themes, and each player has a chance to imbue the city with their own personal touch. At the end of every round, one player instigates an event that will certainly stir up excitement, but wil usually won't be resolved by the time the game is over. If you're looking at establishing a setting for a game with distinct city sectors and characters that act as emblems for a larger neighbourhood, if you want a game that hands a series of story hooks over to the GM by the time you've finished, this is absolutely the game for you.
The author has also written a supplement that you can use to generate true names if you want some inspiration. It is called there are names more powerful here than our own.

Paracosm Resources <3
Need help bringing your paracosm to life? Try these free resources!
⚠️ Updates always pending! Suggestions always welcome! Feel free to message me any tips or questions <3 ⚠️
(Cont. below cut, or with real time updates on this google doc!)
Art Programs
FireAlpaca - 2D Art Program, Animation. Where I make most of my digital art, and paint the frames for my animations :) It is free to use, and easy to learn and use! It can make basic animations as well, such as gifs. It requires download.
Krita - 2D Art Program. Professional, free digital paint software :) I have not used it before, though I have heard good things.
GIMP - 2D Art Program, Photo Manipulation. It's free to use, but I do not like it/recommend it highly. But! If FireAlpaca and Krita don't float your stoat, try Gimp! For 2D art, but also able to emulate Photoshop to a degree ^^
Inkscape - 2D Art Program. Free to use digital illustration software. Makes 2D art :)
Of course, who can forget classics like good old MS Paint, and the new and exciting 3D MS Paint, which can both be used to create some really neat things! Classic MS Paint is available here in browser form! If you need that. I just think it's neat!
Art AI
Petalica Paint - Coloring Software. An in browser, watercolor manga style coloring software, which can (almost) effortlessly color in any of your line art pieces! I've played around with it for my Thorn illustration style piece, and enjoyed it! It is free to use, and can take user input to make the colorations more precise.
ArtBreeder - 3D Realism Software. Using Artbreeder, you can create lifelike images of your paras, planets, or potentially even fursona, using the intricate AI they let you work with for free! A premium version exists, but most functions are fully usable without - though I recommend donating ^^ You can randomly generate, or prune and shape what you make until its perfect! Slow to use and get the hang of, but very worth it! Artbreeder is also pioneering an intriguing animation software to go alongside their product! Browser based.
3D Software
Blender - 3D Modeling, Animation. The best (in my opinion) free 3D modelling software.
MagicaVoxel - 3D Pixel Art. Free to use! Could be interesting :)
MikuMikuDance - 3D Rigging. Anime style rigging and animation software, free to use, and certified internet artefact! Has stood the test of time, and is still used and loved today. Can support ports of many kinds of assets, including, I believe, those from Blender, and of course those that are downloaded. DA has a bunch of old MMD communities you can raid for assets!
Animaze - Face Rigger. Use 3D models and a webcam to watch your paras talk! Models can be made in Blender, downloaded online, or even from CHARAT V, CHARAT GENESIS sister app!
Character Creators
CHARAT GENESIS - 2D Character Creator. Browser based anime style character creator, with multiple crops and poses, and infinitely customizable options. It is legitimately insane. Has a 3D function called CHARAT V which can apparently convert characters made in CHARAT GENESIS into 3D models compatible with Face Rig and Animaze!
V-Katsu - 3D Character Creator. Free on steam! Anime style, intensive character creator, by the same people who made Koikatsu, and Koikatsu Party, two amazingly detailed 3D hentai makers. While V-Katsu is a SFW VTuber maker, if you're looking for NSFW anime content, you could always spend roughly $70 on the full NSFW versions. V-Katsu requires a translation mod (free online as well) which you have to install, or the ability to read Kanji <3 Works with VR tech.
V-Roid Studios - 3D Character Creator. Free on steam! Anime style, fairly in depth character creator, that allows for some degree of digital 3D hand sculpting, particularly with their amazing hair engine, to get your paras looks perfect!
And, of course, Picrew has thousands of character creators of various styles and quality uploaded by the artists who made them! Also, honestly I think we as a society should embrace making dinky chibis in Gacha Life. IDK why everyone is mean to the gacha kids, like we weren't all cringe at some point,
World Design
HomeStyler - 3D and 2D Room Designer. Make a model of an interior for a home or building, using real 1:1 furniture of IRL brands! Apparently this is free to use, though there is a premium version, and  it offers 3D and 2D models.
Map to World - 3D Planet Maker. Turn your fantasy world into a 3D model of the planet. Put maps directly on, or design the surface and textures of your world. Takes a lot of getting used to, but it is AMAZING. Free to use, and browser based!
PlanetMaker - 3D Planet Maker. Make a customized 3D planet! Free to use browser site! I have never used this, but I would love to mess around with it sometime! Allows you to add orbital rings, change textures, and more at the click of a mouse.
If on sale, I also recommend snagging a copy of the Sims, particularly 3 or 4, for character creation and world design. Maybe not the best gameplay without mods, but it's also a load of fun, and very easy to add custom content to! Minecraft also. But you just need Minecraft, in general. Beyond its ability to fairly faithfully recreate structures from your paracosms, it's just Good.
Game Creators
Maybe you wanna turn your paracosm into a cool game idk, just thought I'd put these here!
Construct 3 - 2D Game Creator. Beginner level game making :) Drag-and-drop if/then style programming.
GameSalad - Codeless 2D Game Creator. Drag and drop style/no coding, beginner friendly. Free version available!
Solpeo - 2D Game Creator. HTML5 based game engine for 2D and isometric game development. Some programming knowledge needed. Platforms supported: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer 9+. Free version available.
Stencyl - Codeless 2D Game Creator. Drag and drop style building/no coding skills needed. Has editable templates!
Scratch - 2D Game Creator. Very easy to use and totally free, though relatively basic!
Unity - 3D, 2D, and VR Game Creator. Make games with 3D software. Import your own assets (Blender compatible) or download free options, or buy the rights to models. Works for 3D and 2D games. Free version available, and now works with VR tech!
Unreal Engine - 3D Game Creator. Extremely advanced 3D game developer. Highly customizable. Free to use!
Twine - Text-based Game Creator. Use a map to make a branching paths text-based story game. Free to use.
Squiffy - Text-based Game Creator. have used Squiffy and it can make some really, truly incredible things. Can take a while to pick up, and learn how to use to its full potential. Free to use! Has an online and offline library of player creations you can get inspiration from!
Quest - Text-based Game Creator. I've never used this, but it seems cool! Use it to make interactive text-based DND game adventures in browser.
Ren'Py - Visual Novel Creator. Visual novel engine, that is well acclaimed, and of course, free to use!
Companion AI
Replika - 3D Companion.
Kajiwoto - Chatbot Companion. Customizable, learning AI you can shape into a personality. Communicates via Discord like chat box.
Organization
Toyhou.se - Character Gallery. A customizable library where you can upload all of your paras and characters for the public to view! Free to use, but requires a premium member to invite you!
Refsheet - Character Gallery. I haven't used it before, but I've heard good things, and that it's a suitable alternative to toyhou.se if you can't get an invite!
Notebook.AI - Character Gallery. I haven't used it before, but I've heard good things, and that it's a suitable alternative to toyhou.se if you can't get an invite!
World Anvil - World Building Toolset. Like character galleries, but for worlds and their lore :)
Scabard - World Building Toolset. Aimed at DnD campaigners, but I reckon it'll be useful for many!
YARPS - World Building Toolset. More focused around story and lore than Scabard or World Anvil, and looks beautiful! Still in its prototype stage, however.
Pinterest - Photo Organizer. Look at, collect, and sort images into boards. Personalizes your feed based on that, and is free to use and join! However, unlike their myriad of wonderful recipes, DIY tutorials, and the likes - a lot of the images are uploaded by second parties and not credited, so be careful reuploading anything you find! Also great for finding outfits and art inspo for your paras!
Generators
Fantasy Name Generator - Name Generators. Does what it says on the tin! Generates fantasy names. Is a lovely website, run by a purportedly lovely woman.
Fantasy Map Generator - Map Generator. Randomly generates a fictional map, which you can view in 2D or 3D.
Donjon RPG Generator - Multiple Generators. Can make maps, weapons, items, etc.
Seventh Sanctum - Multiple Generators. One of my favorites from high school! Does all kinds of things - the standard items, spells, and names - but also prompts, backstories, characters, and even comedy generators!
ShindanMaker - Multiple Generators. User created and uploaded, any kind of generator you can imagine, of varying complexity. And when I say any generator? I mean ANY generator.
Audio
Audacity - Record and Edit Audio. What can't Audacity do? I love Audacity to death. At surface level, it records audio. I've used it to record voices for my paras, and get audio for animations and games I've worked on. I cannot recommend it enough. Comprehensive editing, and with some investigation, it can do so, so much more than just record simple dialogue.
FL Studios - Compose. Compose music with an unlimited free trial. Upgrades available for purchase!
Indie Game Music - Royalty Free Music Library. Free to use Indie Game Music. What it says on the box!
AudioJungle - Royalty Free Music and Audio Library. Thousands of free to use audio clips!
Online Piano - Someone could use this, for recording, or just messing around. I've seen plenty of paras who play piano, this could just be used for fun!
Online Guitar - Same reasons as above, but this site looks kinda sketchy. Use at your own risk or reward! Audio
For real, if you ever need music, sound effects, or really any MP3 clips that can be used without infringing on copyright laws, just search 'royalty free' (music/audio/insert thing here) same applies for photos! Make sure the source is reputable, however.
Tutorials
W3Schools - Coding. Learn the basics of coding, for free, online!
Miscellaneous
Debut Video Capture - Screen Recorder. Record game footage and let's plays for free! Professional and home versions. I see a few of our community members have paras who run YouTube channels, and I thought these might help! It could be a nice way to connect your parames. YouTube quality <3
Pixton - Comic Maker. Comic making website. I have no experience with this at all, but some may find it useful!
Picfont - Image Editor. Puts customizable text on an image. I used these for @paraesthetics paracosm header edits <3 It has a premium version (???) but the free version has all functions, but it crashes regularly (honestly seems timed :/) but once you get it down, it's a very quick process, and you won't have to worry about that at all.
Itch.io - Publishing. You can publish your self made games here :)
Korsakow - ??? Described as, "The Future of Storytelling" and is apparently a way to create interactive films. I *just* found out about this, but thought I should include it for someone who may know how to use and appreciate it! Free? Unknown, at the moment.
Tips and Tricks
Animation Done Easy
Our forefather's of internet animation used MS Paint, Windows Movie Maker, and Audacity. All of these, or their equivalents, are free on standard computers. I, personally, use FireAlpaca - which works just as well, if not better, than MS Paint for animation - but takes longer, and definitely lacks that retro feeling. I also use my trackpad to draw and animate everything, so its doable, but probably not totally comfortable, to animate like this for most people :)

That's such a real list 10/10
(I'm gonna make my list of when I was about 13 and descending because my Teenage years games are just too wildly diffrent to put them both together)
-Five Nights at Freddy's
This game (or rather everything going on around it) was my childhood about up until about Fnaf: Sl. I found the story and trying to figure it out really really interesting, not to mention the games themselves being suprisingly spooky. And the Characters too (Furry bait)
-Minecraft
Minecraft does not need an introduction it's Minecraft. I remember building this like massive Horse care facility with an old friend which was nice, also this massive Mini-game world I constructed myself as Mini-games weren't available on the Console version of Minecraft. It was nice. I didn't have any mods or custom maps so I made due with what I had.
-Roblox
Roblox is almost a little too broad a "game" so to be specific, Natural Disaster Survival, Roblox Titanic, Black Hole Survival, and Survive the End of Roblox. The latter still being my absolute favorite Roblox game and a Game I still enjoy more than some actual full on games
-Garry's Mod
I ironically did not play Garry's mod until I was 17, because up until then I did not ever have a PC. However the affects of Garry's mod cannot be understated on my Childhood with youtubers like Vanossgaming and such, making me YEARNNN for Gary's mod
-Mario Kart Wii
Mario Kart Wii was the first ever game I played I think, and you know how when Children are like 4-7 their learning neurons are at peak efficiency? (I think) Well by fucking god my learning skills didn't go into Math or anything they went into Mario Kart Wii courses, I could do Rainbow Road absolutely effortlessly. Now that Game's music and tracks are now glued into my brain.
(Undertale gets an honourable mention because I would not be the Pansexual Enby I am today without it)
I do not have 5 people to tag so @garftism

Underrated SMPEarth Things #1
the friendship (of sorts) between Eret and Techno
both had awful sleep schedules and so were often the only two online, when Techno was building and Eret streaming. Techno would often show up in Eret’s chat and sometimes gave him lifts around the map, since Eret didn’t have a fast plane. Eret was the only non-Antarctican that Techno showed around Technobase when it was in construction
Eret’s just as socially stunted as Techno, so he never pressured him to vc or have an alliance for the Clout (like other streamers may have tried to do). i feel like that may be why Techno gravitated towards his streams, even though he was one of the smaller streamers on the server
if you ever need some chill background noise, i recommend checking out TheEret on Twitch. watch some of his old SMPEarth streams, like when he stole Hawaii (#fuckhawaii) or discovered that Earth was a donut (donut earth society). good content. he’s also gonna be teaming with Tommy for the next Minecraft Championships, so check that out!

The Kitsune Shrine, Tori Gate, and Household (Sorta)
This is a big post, cause a lot of screenshots, and I’m going to kinda walk through the whole of it to explain things. All of it’s going to be under a read more post, but that’s more just to keep the dash a little cleaner for everyone.
Since this is all in Minecraft, this is more to just give a general visual of what the place would be like. Things to keep in mind is that, unlike in the images below, the lake which holds the Tori is much bigger, mostly rounded, and takes up the majority of the space of the clearing where the Shrine and the Kitsune Home is. If on a map, the shrine is on the southern end of the lake, and the house is on the south-eastern bank of it.
To start with, the land which Kyuushi’s family owns is found amid a large, forested area, where the trees are mixtures of Japanese Cedar Trees, Bamboo, and closer to the Shrine itself are some scattered Sakura trees. The Sakura trees being mostly around the lake which holds the Tori Gate. The first sign that you’re nearing their land is that you start finding bamboo scattered around among the forest, and a rise onto a large hill sometime after. The Bamboo grows denser the closer you get to the shrine proper.
Around the land is a barrier, one which isn’t designed to keep things out completely, anything can pass right through it. The Barrier is designed instead to confuse those passing through it, and to deter them or lead them away from the Shrine. Animals can pass through with little or no issue more due to their natural instincts, and their higher senses. Humans and other sentient beings like Demons, Yokai, or creatures like Dragons, Wyverns, Minotaurs, etc, will be more effected by the barrier, to varying degrees.
The land of the Shrine is meant to be a safe place, mainly for the Kitsune family who has lived there for millennia. Though if people manage to find their way to the shrine, they will be welcome to stay for a short time, given they aren’t hostile. Any hostility will be met with full force, not only of the Kitsune’s living there at the time, but by the spirit of the Ancient Kitsune herself, and all her wrath.
For those who aren’t hostile, however, this will be what they see when first passing through the forest surrounding the Shrine, and out from the thicker Bamboo which acts as a natural barrier:
Tumblr media
The Pagoda is a place to stop and rest, to set up smaller, temporary shrines to those who have passed, to hold gatherings with visitors, or for visitors to use as a place to rest for a night or two. It has a sliding door on both the front, and back of it, but they are usually open unless being used for shelter at night. Beyond the Pagoda, after passing through it, will be the sight of the Shrine to the Ancient Kitsune herself.
The Pagoda, like all constructions within this land, has many lanterns filled with ethereal flames which light it eternally, and ward off unfriendly spirits, as these flames are fragments of the Ancient Kitsune’s soul. These will brighten, and the fires within will seep out of the small gaps in the lanterns when the spirit is angered by hostile entities that dare tread upon the land. They also naturally dim at night, allowing easier rest for those who reside here.
Tumblr media
I did my best to try and recreate the shrine designs from Ghost of Tsushima here, which has been praised for it’s visual accuracy of Tsushima itself. A stone altar around wooden Shrine with a sand center to allow more comfortable kneeling during prayer. The Shrine sits at the inner most point of the large hill that the whole site sits atop, overlooking the descent into the hill’s center where the lake fills, and the Tori Gate sits at it’s center.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Tori Gate itself is large, made with pale, ashen colored wood unlike the red of most others. It sits in the very center of the large lake that fills an almost crater-like space in the center of the massive hill where this site is located. There is no walkway to reach it, and use of a boat will not allow travel through it.  Kitsune’s are able to “walk upon the water” through use of one of their base magicks, condensing their magic energies beneath their feet to provide unseen platforms where they can walk. If strong enough, they can provide enough unseen footing for two others to walk by their side with them.
Tumblr media
The Tori itself, as stated, is found at the center of the lake, with the Kitsune’s Home sitting on the south-eastern bank atop a beach-like portion of the lake’s shore. The lake does have a river feeding water into it from a nearby mountain, and a river which flows out from it, and towards the sea. The waters of the lake itself are clean, pure waters after passing through the barrier that surrounds the land. Many different kinds of aquatic life calling the deep lake their home, birds frequently bathing in it, and animals of the forest drinking from it often.
Tumblr media
The home itself is extremely old fashioned, having been built long, long ago. It is kept in good condition thanks to charms and enchantments that have been placed upon it, allowing it to last as long as the family has. It’s rather small, but considering the family itself has remained relatively minimal in number, it works plenty enough.
Tumblr media
Past the first doors is a small foyer, where outter-wear like shoes, sandals, and coats are normally kept. There’s not much in minecraft I could use to represent it, but there is a cabinet in both the farthest corners from the entrance, to the left and right of the door that leads into the rest of the home. The left side contains cooking supplies, as most all meals that require cooking are done over fires on the beach itself. The right side contains dinning implements, plates, bowls, utensils, cups, etc.
Tumblr media
Past the second door within the home, the first sight anyone will come upon is the main room. A large, U-shape room with shelving covered with items of all kinds, souvenirs and treasures from the travels that the head of the Kitsune family has been on through the Gate. A small lectern holding many books, with an inkwell and brush atop it, is where the Kitsune head will write down their experiences, and their learnings, from the realms they’ve been to.
There are countless books that sit under the shelving right beside the lectern that are filled with notes taken by prior heads of the Kitsune family. However, the shelves will only hold the items brought to it by the current head. Those that belonged to the ones who have passed on, are buried with them, to keep from cluttering the room too much, and clear it for the next in line.
Seen below are the two sides of this central room, which lead to the two bedrooms of the home on each side, with windows that look out to the Tori Gate itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Between the Home, and the Shrine up the hill, there’s a small area that leads down beneath the land itself, into a cavernous area. This is area is one that came to mind while I was trying to create a representation of the Shrine within the game, and the idea around it is still fairly new, but I’m considering this now a canon thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Past this small opening is a large staircase which descends into the earth, traveling down into an open cavern where, eventually, one may find the grave of the Ancient Kitsune, and those of the deceased descendants around her. Visitors aren’t allowed to traverse this area, and any action to do so will be seen as hostility, unless they are accompanied by a Kitsune from the family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve yet to really flesh out this underground area in the game, I’m going to use it as a sort of storage and base for storing resources, doing crafting and such, and expanding it out into the various different automated farms for things like food and other materials. As well as a place to descend from, leading down to a mining area to get resources from deep underground through.
Essentially, this form of descent seen in the images is continued on deep into the earth beneath, and at the very bottom lies the grave of the Ancient Kitsune. Her descendants are buried around her, within the walls, going up one level per generation.

Method of Loci and Reality Shifting
There was a video from a source that I will not name that brought this community to my attention. Thus, if you will allow me to do so, I am going to give my two-cents on the matter. Let us see how this goes.
In terms of reality shifting itself, I do not think that it is a real phenomena, at least in the way that it is presented in terms of literally going to another universe. However, I know that this would not go over well, so instead of contesting the whole of reality shifting and getting chewed-out by everyone, I am going to instead compare it to something that I think is more realistic: Memory Palaces. Reality shifting, really, may be understood as a form of creating spontaneous memory palaces, like in dreams with space (not outer space but more along the lines of “distance”) in them.
Assuming that most of you reading this are children or young adults, I do not necessarily want to be responsible for getting you into memory palaces, or more properly the Method of Loci. To be honest I only know about such a method from the title of Frances Yates’ book on the subject, which I learned about from studying Giordano Bruno. Indeed there is another post on my account about him that may be of interest.
Without attempting to invalidate anyone aside from the second paragraph, as that is not my intention at all, okay, I would like to delve into a brief summary of memory palaces, and how they contrast with reality shifting. Then I will seek an integration of the two.
If I am to be frank, my intention with this post is to help to transform Dark Academia into the next Renaissance, in accordance with the theory of a certain YouTuber. I have come to the conclusion that in order to make this work, the “aesthetic” element of Dark Academia will need to be replaced with actually finding and reading great texts from around the world. Here’s to hoping that can happen with this discussion of the Method of Loci or Memory Palaces augmenting the practice of Reality Shifting. Food for thought; cheers, and lets get down to the meat of this essay.
* * *
Memory palaces function with two essential elements: The space of the building or location where the perception takes place, and then the mnemonic devices intended to enable memorizing things. You could potentially build a memory palace in Minecraft if visualization is difficult for you, but that is a bit off topic. Cicero the Roman Senator and rhetorician came up with the method in the first place, and Giordano Bruno wrote many books on the subject. The specific division of the elements of a memory palace in my own take, admittedly I do not know too much about any of this, but I was hoping to make this post anyway and see what someone could make of it.
Spatial memory is obviously going to be important with regards to designing and using a memory palace. An author that I will not mention... Well actually he was the guy who wrote Maps of Meaning, but I am not in agreement with absolutely everything that he says. For instance, his protest of the use of gender pronouns in the name of freedom of speech was quite silly, and in fact invalidating for the transgender community, and I do not condone that. At the same time, I do not buy into the other idea that all of his work is utter gibberish, a stance that some people stand by. His work is a mixed bag. I contrasted the titular maps of meaning with memory palaces, and it seems that they both fundamentally rely on differences between values, and spatial memory respectively. Hypothetically both latter terms generally feel to me like they are the same.
As for the design of the memory palace itself, why, it can be any location that you wish; fictional, natural or real. The problem is knowing the architecture of the fictional place, as I know that people on here are really into fandoms and that is inevitable. A historical-mythical anecdote is the Temple of Solomon and the fascination that Europeans such as Isaac Newton had with its layout as described in the Old Testament of the Bible. Idk, but at least we have those cross section books now, so it should be much easier. Either that or you can design it yourself in your mind, on paper, in Minecraft or using Lego Digital Designer. Yes, that software is still my favorite Lego CAD (computer aided design) despite having not used it in years.
In terms of icons that populate the memory palace, they could be construed as NPCs or something that you could potentially generate by listing out human emotions, and more importantly how people express them. There is a field called Kinesics (not kinesthetics as I almost typed) and this deals with body motion and expression, but keep in mind that this is advanced college-level stuff. It could be used to image various body movements for these NPCs and enable a very vivid experience. Again, although I want to spur interest in the transformation of the Dark Academia community into a Lay Renaissance; the method of accomplishing this is to “ditch the aesthetic,” a tag I have appended to this post, and start reading classic texts, at the same time I do not want to be responsible for a bunch of teenagers and children getting into subjects that are either occult related, or too dense for them to understand properly. (I think I’ll make another post about the “ditch the aesthetic” movement eventually.) This distinction is of great importance to me, and I hope that whoever is reading this can appreciate that.
I do not know the intricacies of reality shifting, so I will not talk about that today. You probably know much more that I do about it, and although I do not entirely agree, I can respect what you believe.
The last thing that I have to say, or, two things, is that if you accentuate your the things you want to remember with strong emotion, then those things will be more conducive to be remembered. The same thing applies to memory palaces and reality shifting. This advice was stated by Giordano Bruno himself in one of his books, which name I unfortunately can’t recall.
Lastly, if the whole reality shifting thing gets too intense for you, I’d recommend just leaving the community, or more realistically just sitting on the sidelines and taking in some of the positivity emitted from the community, as I have seen some of the posts on here and they look like they do that. I don’t want to stir up any controversy, but if you have constructive criticism I would love to hear it in the comments. I don’t personally think that disagreement needs to be angry, as that just isn’t really feasible in terms of the proper functioning of society. Conversation and the exchange of ideas is better than being angry, and I hope that I have been civil enough in writing this. Sorry that this whole essay was so long in the first place; if you read all of this, I commend you.

ACNH: Colonial Desires in the Context of Quarantine
Since finishing up my undergraduate studies in June, one of the major things I've been doing with my free time is playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons (please don't @ me but I've already logged something like 400 hours). As much fun as the game is, one of the things that's really stood out to me is how much AC:NH depends on and reifies colonial logics, and how important it is to unpack this in the context of the game's popularity and the ongoing pandemic.
One of the first ways I want to address colonialism in AC:NH this is through the way I was first introduced to it, namely through its connection to my thesis and what I refer to as the "terraforming imaginary". Before I started playing or had even decided to buy the game, I was working on my thesis "Constructing New Worlds: An Investigation of Climate Change and the Terraforming Imaginary" (which, shameless self plug but if you're interested you can check out my 10 minute video presentation for symposium at Johns Hopkins University here). During this time I was talking about my thesis pretty non-stop with anyone who would listen and as a result probably about half of my friends independently sent me this meme
Tumblr media
[ID: meme from @animalcrossingmemes which shows two children; the one on the left is smiling and looking off into the distance with the label "daydreaming about terraforming" while the child on the right looks stressed and upset with the label "actually terraforming". Beneath this meme is text from @kaijuno which reads "I realize this is an animal crossing meme but as an astrophysicist I was really excited for a second that someone was finally seeing the light on how fricking difficult an a huge waste of time it would be to try to terraform Mars". Beneath this text is another meme with four hands gripping each other's wrists to make a circle. In the center is the initial animalcrossingmemes image and each arm is labeled, respectively, "Minecraft Players," "Sims Players," "Animal Crossing Players," and "Astrophysicists apparently"]
Although my thesis addresses terraforming in the context of space exploration/colonization, AC:NH's engagement with "terraforming" (alongside other aspects of colonial practices and desires) helps to expand on the stakes of this. The reason I put "terraforming" in scare-quotes is because…technically, there isn't any terraforming in AC:NH, given that terraforming is "the operation consisting of rendering other stellar bodies—mainly planets and eventually asteroids—appropriate for human life" (Frédéric Neyrat, 46). While I'm all down for an interpretation of the Animal Crossing world as a non-Earth planet and the villagers as aliens, the island is already suitable for human life and the use of "terraforming" in the game is generally more readily identifiable as geoconstructivism: players redesign and restructure their islands, shaping waterways and topography to create idealistic spaces (as opposed to making the island literally livable). Either way, it speaks to the terraforming imaginary—the underlying set of logics and desires conducive to the imagining and desiring of “terraforming”, ie the logics and desires of colonization. Even though AC:NH's terraforming isn't technically terraforming, it is an embodiment of the terraforming imaginary, centering desires for the "civilizing"/"cultivating" of a space into an orderly, colonized ideal. On even a very surface level it is useful to think about this through the island rating system: islands are ranked out of five stars, with deductions made for things such as having "too many" weeds or not "cleaning up" by leaving items lying around rather than placed with intention.
Another, perhaps more obvious, way in which AC:NH embodies colonial logics is through the "Nook Miles Tickets". Players trade in Nook Miles (an achievement based currency) for tickets which they can take to the airport and use to visit other, uninhabited islands which they can destroy to extract all of the resources slash-and-burn style. Players also have an increased likelihood of catching rare insects, fish, and sea animals to display to their own island museum or sell. As Wilbur, a dodo pilot, explains about this process: "we run the 'finders keepers' protocol here. Lumber, fruit, fish, whatever? Yours if you can carry it", going on to emphasize the importance of not leaving anything behind as there will be no returning; they "burn the flight plans" after each flight.
Although the rampantly destructive extraction of resources is the most apparent embodiment of colonial logics, the centrality of the museum and the imperative to complete each wing by finding and identifying all of the bugs, fish/sea creatures, fossils, and artworks in the game is an equally significant connection to colonialism. Benedict Anderson argues in Imagined Communities that the museum, along with the census and the map, "shaped the way in which the colonial state imagined its dominion—the nature of the human beings it ruled, the geography of its domain, and the legitimacy of its ancestry" (164). The specifics Anderson goes into differ of course, because he's talking about actual colonial states while AC:NH has the fluidity of embodying the underpinning desires which colonialism as process requires to function, but what holds true is that these specific forms of producing, organizing, and displaying knowledge which produced "a totalizing classificatory grid, which could be applied with endless flexibility...to be able to say of anything that it was this, not that; it belonged here, not there" (Anderson 184). Essentially, in AC:NH part of a player's ownership of the island occurs through a player's ability to classify and collect artefacts for the museum. Furthermore, this imperative to collect and preserve fossils, art work, bugs, fish, and sea creatures is part of the way the player's island is positioned as a place of value.
The museum also implicitly functions to reify positions of authority, legitimizing a kind of monopoly of knowledge. In AC:NH, this primarily means the positions of the museum curator (Blathers) and, to a degree, Tom Nook (who selected and invited Blathers) are secured as the authorities on knowledge. When Tom Nook tells the player that the island(s) are deserted, we must take this as truth...yet fishing both on the player's island and the Nook Miles islands can turn up trash items like old tires, tin cans, and boots. Colonial logics depend on a management of who counts as "people" and what counts as "inhabited" and the myth of empty lands; Tom Nook's instance that these islands are all deserted is haunted by these lingering traces of some other inhabitation prior to the game's start.
Okay, so you might be asking what does this all mean and why should we care? Let's talk about both the game's popularity and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which contextualized its release (and continues to shape daily life). Animal Crossing: New Horizons has not only received overwhelmingly positive critical reception, but is one of the best selling games both for the Switch console and the Animal Crossing series. According to freelance journalist Imad Khan's New York Times article "Why Animal Crossing Is the Game for the Coronavirus Moment," the game's appeal centers in its function as an escape to an "island paradise where bags of money fall out of trees and a talking raccoon can approve you for a mortgage". Khan quotes Dr. Ramzan (a professor of game narrative at Glasgow Caledonian University) who refers to it as "the universe you’ve always wanted, but can’t get." Given the significantly decreased mobility and connection that has accompanied social distancing, as well as the increased stress and heightened inequality which have accompanied COVID-19, this probably isn’t particularly surprising. It makes sense that a cute, low-stress video game would be a valuable form of escapism.
Mobility is a particularly fraught discourse in this context: on the one hand, concerns surrounding containment/immobility are heightened in the context of neoliberalism and within colonial societies, which depend upon discourses of individualism and independence to demarcate the “freedom” which comes from capitalist economies. At the same time, the desire for things like connection/community, movement, and spatial autonomy/sovereignty are not inherently colonial, even as colonialist logics frequently position colonial/capitalist/neoliberal expansion as the solution. Animal Crossing is heavily situated within this entanglement, simultaneously offering a very real form of connection (and even protest) for many people while also implicitly speaking to latent beliefs that colonization is a legitimate form of mobility and escapism. To say that AC:NH is the universe we’ve always wanted but can’t get is to refuse to engage with the inherent contradictions of neoliberalism and reafirm the notion that colonial capitalist worlds are worth wanting; that the fantasy of individual wealth and success through destructive extraction and market freedom, when obtainable, is good.
None of this is to say that playing AC:NH is the same as colonization, because of course it isn't. However, the colonial undertones of the game reflect the pervasiveness of colonial logics and desires in our daily lives, subsequently further normalizing them. Journalist Kazuma Hashimoto, for example, emphasizes the importance of contextualizing AC:NH's colonial undertones within Japanese Colonialism in "Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Japanese Colonialism". As Hashimoto argues, "I am only asking that people familiarize themselves with Japanese colonialism and why something as innocuous as discovering a deserted island can be read as colonialism — especially within the context of a Japanese game".
Inattentiveness to the more subdued, invisibilized manifestations of violence facilitates their internalization and acceptance; educating ourselves and paying attention to and challenging places where we feel comfortable with these kinds of escapist fantasies is an important exercise in critical thinking which can help us to continue to refuse their real life manifestations.
