Summary: After a couple weeks, Livia decides to open Frank’s letter.

You were seated back on your rooftop. You had stayed out there the night prior, while the moon was at her peak. You had taken up the routine of talking to the moon in the late hours of the night, hoping Matt was on the other side and he was talking back despite knowing he wasn’t.

Dex had left for work after having stayed the night. You had physical therapy later that day, one of four sessions every week. You were also required to do traditional therapy to ensure there was no lingering trauma, but you were able to use Curtis’ support group for that requirement.

Karen tried calling ever since you were discharged but you hardly answered. Usually it was just a run in with her every few days when she felt the urge to come check for Matt’s suit. You grew more and more irritated with her intrusions since you knew he wasn’t coming back. Yet she still came, still pried that wound open again.

You felt suffocated, like all of your pain - both physical and emotional - were massive waves that crashed into you and knocked you down everytime you thought you could stand.

There was no relief, no healing. You were broken. You were tempted to even slide off your rooftop and let Matt’s God decide for you. But you didn’t. You didn’t because… Well you didn’t quite know why, but something about death didn’t seem so appealing anymore.

Instead, you opened Frank’s letter.

“hey princess.

when i left this with you i hoped you wouldn’t need to open it but here you are. if you are reading this then that means youve hit your limit. im sorry im not there with you right now but its for the best. thats what they said at least.

i want to tell you that you arent defined by any persons inability to choose you. dont abandon who you cause russo did. dont neglect or question yourself alright? cause i know damn well murdock never did. that guy saw you for you livia. he knew exactly who you were and he probably knew it before you did.

what i know is that not everyone has a heart like yours. most people don't know how to give the way you do. they just take yknow? carrying a heart big as yours gotta be exhausting. but you got this light and its really a gift but i know youre starting to feel like a curse.

as cheesy as this is gonna sound you gotta keep pushing. life for me and you isnt easy and youre too damn stubborn to let anything take you down. jesus y/n the stories i would hear about you in the costume had me convinced you werent human.

i want to leave you an address to write to but i dont even know where imma end up. its real shitty that i had to leave you like that but i wouldn’t have if i didnt think you had it in you to pull through.

murdock saw your light. i saw it. karen and nelson see it. pretty sure russo saw it too before everything. and no one can take from you unless you let them. i know youre going through hell right now but keep going. how are you gonna see it get better if you quit now?

leo and frank have a clairrese and percy type of relationship. they keep the beef snd the rivalry going for shits and giggles. but secretly they're hopping on facetime every other night, theyre contact names are "pookie wookie" and "general munchkin man", theyre having sleepovers every other weekend, and sharing there spotify for recs.

I know that this might be an unpopular opinion, but am I one of the only people that sees the dynamic between Dr. Mel and Dr. Langdon as platonic?? All I see is a mentor being impressed with his mentee and willing to listen and learn, nothing else. Plus, it’d be very weird to ship them romantically, mainly due to the fact that Dr. Langdon has a wife and two children. Lastly, it wouldn’t make sense narrative wise either.

hi sorry, it appears i am not done talking about this scene. i’ve been thinking about it since i watched ep 9 and i really think it is the kingdon scene for me and i’ll explain why: before this, he was pretty pissed at santos and was full on shouting at her, and got told off pretty good by robby in front of everyone because of it. he’s then told to find mel and bring her back to work and i don’t know about you guys, but i fully expected him to be harsh with her or rude at the very least because he was still upset about what went down and sometimes we lash out at people who don’t deserve it. but i was so pleasantly surprised when this scene happened and he was gentle with her from the moment he opens the door. he doesn’t open it abruptly either!! and he keeps his voice low the entire time!!!! he adorably pets crosby, calls mel his least problematic trainee, says she’s growing on him, and then he - the man with a back injury - gets on the floor, sits with mel and still with his gentle voice, figures out exactly how she’s feeling, says she’s a sensitive person and instead of suggesting that she should take some time and find some place else to work, he reassures her. tells her that sensitive people are needed. badly. and then says “i need you.” and gives her a job that he knows won’t overstimulate her “if she’s ready.” all while never raising his voice or being rude or admonishing in any way. and i found that really, really refreshing. kingdon scene of all time.

I like to think he changes his voice a bit with the help of Sally, who calls him Julian or Julius (so Greek sounding).

Eddie and Frank are already friends with him, so they love him already, which makes the thought of friend crushes (also called “squishes”) very possible. Like when you have a close friend and you’re hanging out as usual, but you’re suddenly confused if you like them more than just a friend or if you just really like them as a person (platonic).

Love the flavor of soulmates that is a main m/f partnership dynamic that's mostly platonic but also romantic but also dysfunctional and yet completely essential - like these characters would not work without each other, but they barely work with each other, and most importantly they know each other carnally better than anyone else, but it's also not about sex at all it's about the partnership and navigating the highs and lows of intimacy and letting someone in, but also maybe they do fuck, but also maybe don't, but also...

I do get a little annoyed at people who say they can't understand why people ship Mel and Langdon, or that those who do don't understand friendship or are delusional.

I understand those who don't see them as romantic. I saw them as platonic while watching the show, and even when I started reading fics; it took me a bit to start shipping them, but I never questioned those who did.

It's easy to understand, really, and if you don't, I'm afraid you simply haven't quite gotten the grasp on shipping as a whole.

The thing is, human relationships are dynamic, and the line between platonic and romantic is less static and defined than what some might think. That line can be different for everyone, AND while a relationship could fall on one side of the line at one time, it could develop in a way that crosses it. That's how things work in real life.

When talking about media, what one person can perceive as platonic can be interpreted differently by another, and while you look at canon interactions and interpret them as platonic and leave it at that, someone else can see the potential evolution into a relationship they would interpret as romantic and run with that.

In Mel and Langdon, you have two people who in less than 15 hours developed a connection, and who clearly respect and value each other. You might see them and think "those two are friends". Someone else might think "that's a great mentor-mentee relationship". Some others might think of how the connection they've established could develop into a romantic one and say "those two are meant to fall in love". Given the limited information we have, all of those are valid conclusions based on individual perspectives.

That's the fun of shipping. Different people can have different interpretations of a relationship based on their personal perspective, and unless you based your perspective on hateful attitudes (hmm hmm ableism, acephobia and prejudice related to substance use disorders are very relevant ones in this case) your interpretation is valid.

(That said, I hope they become besties, and fall in love slowly, and take a long time to actually accept their feelings and are absolutely pathetic about each other to the point that everyone else absolutely can't stand it... And THEN get together and be happy and disgustingly in love. In MY head, they do, anyway)

People STILL acting like Leo and Frank are sworn enemies as if they didn't become good friends after their initial rivalry, as if Leo didn't make a fireproof pouch for Frank, as if Frank didn't sob his eyes out when Leo told him and Hazel about his plan to sacrifice himself, upsets me 😔

(i understand a lot of people are joking, but i worry that many do believe they still have it out for each other 💔)
