I truly deeply feel like I've died. I fear my body may soon decide for me that I need a day off no matter how much vitamin c I take and how strict I am about eating 3 meals a day and sleeping enough
#boooo#it's so annoying trying everything you know to care for your body like stretches and baths and protein and sleep and cups of tea#and noise cancelling headphones and calling someone who loves me#and the real solution is so simple. i need to lie down in a dim room for 24 hours#no matter how much i half ass it here I can't get around the fact that i need to be in a room alone#like. in order to keep functioning physically#i don't even know that i would consider this a disability on a normal day i think the ceos of this company are simply insane

Birthday boy enjoyed a run around in the buttercup field & some birthday snacks!
#Flynn's not been diagnosed with kidney disease but he only has 1 kidney. So 50% kidney function at best#Now he's a senior vet recommended Flynn go on a boring “renal diet” as a precaution. Renal diet = low protein...#Unfortunately dog treats tend to be high protein... so a lot of them are off the menu now#today I searched & found a couple of types of treats which are only 7-11% protein - so should be OK as an occasional snack!#Flynn seemed to enjoy them too - yay!!#flynn#border collie#dog#rescue dog#birthday#spring#treats

Hey y'all! Weird question time again, I think I've asked this before but I can't remember Does anyone have a link to any resources or a guide or something on what blood sugar should be for people without diabetes? Both like in general, when fasting, and after meals. I do not have diabetes (I have been tested many times) but tend to what is technically not hypoglycemia but seems to be the low end of normal blood sugar pretty much all the time. Like, I have fasting blood sugar levels when I am not fasting and consistently have low blood sugar symptoms when my blood sugar is in like 80s, but I can't find anything about blood sugar that's not for diabetes

I never fast because I know I am prone to low blood sugar#and I function best with a sugary drink I slowly drink all day#in addition to snacks between meals#I am struggling a bit today and I am trying to figure out (again) how I can stop this being a problem#when pretty much all the high protein snacks are also high histamine#docs won't take it seriously because they don't seem to believe I'm not fasting????#and because it's technically not hypoglycemia since it's not under 70#I've had hypoglycemia before. Like. blood sugar in the 40s nearly passed out bad#but I was also having anaphylaxis at the time so the docs seem to just be chalking it up to that#finding resources for low blood sugar that's not diabetes is like finding resources for salt in food that's not about getting less salt#but at least with the salt I can just do the opposite

mmm wait, hold on.
leon being captured and interrogated.
but, he's been in such a survival state for too many days straight that he's kinda just operating on fumes.
when the session begins, he's already kinda just checking out.
right away, there's something off.
leon's quiet, not unexpected for skilled professionals hellbent on protecting secrets. but he's just not super responsive. clear exhaustion, and yet there's that lack of adrenaline spike in him. he looks more miserable than angered, but even that is muted.
the little things they deploy to make him uncomfortable do work, but he's a hell of a lot more venomous in his reactions than expected. it just carries a different air to it, the way he nearly snarls. the way his brows scrunch together with a visible sign of torture they haven't even inflicted. migraine, or a regular headache.
interrogators get kinda... concerned? they've dealt with their fair share of people like leon. but it really just brings out a genuine, "are you.. okay?" from the guy who's supposed to be beating the shit out of him for information.
ends up prying info out of him too easy, but not the original intent on what they wanted.
turns out, the interrogators are kinda chill. it's not even a tactic to get him to warm up, sitting down and having a meal with them. seeing his hesitation, and then feral devouring. cat just needed some food.
it's a real option, a choice on leon's part, when he's asked, "so, uh, could we talk about that thing...?"

literally just looking at various potential research labs for grad school and my brain has the audacity to give me the “fucking up the protein purification in front of everyone so badly they all think I’m an idiot” nightmare again
#haven’t had that bad boy since I left my research tech job#to be fair I’m p sure I’m the only person in the labs I’m looking at that has ever even purified a protein#like. of the labs I’m looking at the only wet labs are somewhere that doesn’t have the equipment on site#the others aren’t wet labs at all#but it is funny bc I was talking to a potential PI and she mentioned a problem that I could consider working on and my brain was like. well#this is prob best approached by enzyme activity assays#and I’m p sure this guy can’t be assayed in vivo#so. protein purification for in vitro testing?#but I HATE PURIFICATION.#and also literally if I wanted to do it I’d have to go to the other campus that has the centrifuges and liquid nitrogen!!!!!#which is fucking bizarre to me bc I worked somewhere where those things were standard#the university doesn’t even have an fplc……….#they simply don’t do that shit. which is kinda the point bc I don’t like that shit#and YET#somehow this specific problem offered to me as a potential thesis activates my sleeper agent purification brain#maybe if I were purifying my Own proteins for my Own assay to answer my Own questions……….#like. I wanna study evolution and genes!!!!!!#but if your genes keep having similar deletions in a protein under a certain condition I wanna know why????????#is it loss of function????? and if it’s not how is it changing function???????? how is it benefiting the organism?????#I was like okay well. have you tried knockouts of wild type and subbing in just this mutation#and PI was like /: we try to avoid knockouts bc expensive#and I realized how spoiled I have been bc I was in a lab where we already had and could afford knockouts and double knockouts#like oh you wanna study this gene? wanna sub in a modified version?#cool let’s order primers we have the knockouts you can put it on whatever plasmid expression system you want#that said. we did not have a plate reader or easy access to genotyping esp expression mass spec so#pros and cons. they do different stuff that they are set up for#but also apparently during Covid the prof that studies malaria literally used his own blood bc he couldn’t afford to source it#which. honestly given current events it’s good to know everyone already can buckle their belts and run a lab on two cents and fellowships#456 words#lab tag

one of those 'extremely grateful for jarred indian sauces you can stick a protein and some veg into and eat over rice' sort of nights
#like sometimes‚ especially with someone else to keep me on track‚ i manage Actual cooking#and sometimes i manage 'thing in a can' or 'frozen thing'#but there's such a shockingly good ratio of time+effort to taste that you can achieve if you just. get a good jar of sauce.#a package of already mostly-cooked precut chicken to stir into it (that was on sale‚ even!).#a bit of fresh cilantro to sprinkle on top.#some peas out of the freezer. curry leaves ditto.#like yeah it turns into a bit of a stone soup production but the thing is—that makes it feel so much more possible to me#when i'm on my own and low on executive function spoons#than committing to prepping from scratch. cooking onions down. etc.#and now i'm like. eating a thing that actually tastes reasonably real and tasty and satisfying#and it took significantly less time than it took the rice to cook#idk it's just like. really nice sometimes to have an option that isn't 'run up against the brick wall of yr own brain sucking' or 'starve'#tl;dr extremely grateful for jarred indian sauces you can stick a protein and some veg into and eat over rice!#mundanities#domesticities#food#journaling

at what point am i gonna realize that i don't actually like eating meat all that much
#got myself a chicken salad sandwich for lunch today and it was nice! it was!#but about halfway through i was like god. this tastes like a fucking BIRD#and i don't eat meat at home bc i hate cooking it#so im like functionally vegetarian unless i'm out to eat and want a burger or something#but even that's iffy. if i start thinking about it too much i get freaked out#what i really actually need to do is learn more recipes and make sure im getting the right fucking. nutrients. and shit#it's about oils. omega 3s. proteins. get some FAT in your diet.#three meals a day. and two snacks. and dessert if you're nasty. if you're kinky.

So proud of myself, I came home and got straight on with cooking for myself so I'll have food for the week ahead. I'm making chicken & red lentil curry!
#i've not calculated the exact nutritional content but it'll be around 20-25g protein/portion which is what i usually aim for#and i've added carrots and spinach to it so lots of veggies too!#really trying to fix my uh. bad habits. shall we say. which unfortunately requires effort but it'll be worth it#i'm really seeing and feeling the benefits of exercising regularly and eating just that little bit better already#which is truly maddening like how dare it actually work that way the sheer AUDACITY of it#wdym giving my body & brain the nutrients they actually require to function causes them to function properly#wdym subsisting off a pack of mini naan breads and 3 litres of pepsi zero/day has a significant negative impact on my cognitive functions

it’s CRAZY how good a chipotle cheddar chicken wrap from ralphs will taste when it’s the first thing you’ve eaten in four days that wasn’t a protein bar or trail mix. why is nobody talking about this
