Random AO3 Tips
I have a list of resources on my pinned post, but I don't really have a place for the simple miscellaneous tips and tricks, so here's this!
I didn't know most of these existed for probably far too long, so this post is mostly to spread awareness for new users or those who may not have heard of them before <3
I'll update this post if I learn of any other handy tricks. If you know any, let me know and I'll add it here :D

Note: This is for formatting with HTML for the work, and for the authors notes where you Rich Text doesn't exist/work. Rich Text, on the other hand, should transfer most of these from whatever document resource you're using, but I've personally had issues with strikethrough not transferring from Google Docs copy-pasted to AO3 Rich Text, so just double check those areas!

The Thropp family line is pervasive in generations of emotional neglect and abuse. They are, however, deeply connected by 4 generations of doomed bisexuality and toxic polyamory representation 🥰

Note: I’ve been maintaining this list for myself and the discord servers I’m in for years now, and I figured I should also post it on tumblr. I will try to remember to update it when I update my own list. Feel free to submit any tonetags I’m missing, reblog it, and share the link to anyone who is confused about what the tonetags mean. Also, this is meant to be a masterlist, not a list of only the most common ones, so don’t get intimidated because you don’t have everything memorized- that’s what this is for!

There are many lines and moments in The Wicked Years that live rent-free in my mind.
One such scene being Rain's reunion with Glinda at the end of Out of Oz, and there's the last thing* Glinda says to Rain:
“Oh, Rain,” said Glinda, when the girl was almost out the door. “One more thing. About Tip. You may think that a story should have a happy ending—” (p. 544).
Rain interrupts before she can finish what she is saying, not wishing to discuss it, and stating aloud that she isn't looking for happiness or an ending.
Now with Maguire's writing holding a tendency towards multiple interpretations, or purposefully left vague enough to leave it up to the reader (as his almost constant refusal to clarify attests to), I don’t feel too bad in viewing this with a Gelphie tilt. Though considering that Glinda’s dialogue and thoughts almost always turn towards her, I don’t think that is too unrealistic of me.
So, what was the rest going to be?
All things considered, and with her previously trying to console Liir - while mentioning doing the same for Elphaba - it stands to reason it would have been her trying to do so again (despite being well aware none of them will accept it). Perhaps to say that not all stories have a happy ending, even if you think they should. Considering she is led to say this in regards to Rain and Tip, it is not a stretch to assume that she may be thinking of herself and Elphaba and what she may have once envisioned for the future.
Naturally, the lines directly before this one are Glinda bringing up the possibility of Elphaba coming back – which is by now a common rumour/belief amongst people:
“... Maybe Elphaba will come back one day, or maybe she won’t, but in the meantime I have known you. That will see me through, I do believe.” Elphaba is not coming back, thought Rain, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it. Not to an old fool like Glinda.
A part of Glinda still hoping, perhaps, for that happy ending in whatever shape it may be. Even with all the decades that have passed since Elphaba's death, and even more since their original parting and the end of whatever they did have. One could even say that she is still... holding out...
Then Elphaba does come back. Maybe. In death or a dying hallucination or something altogether quite impossible.
And, considering what follows: now I haven’t read the Another Day trilogy (yet), but have it on good authority that the ambiguous endings for two couples are now happy endings. At least for one, the end for the other now a hopeful one. So maybe, just maybe, something apparently impossible did happen - which is another discussion entirely.
*I know some people believe it is Rain releasing Glinda from her cell at the end, and I won't dismiss other people's theories, but that is not one I believe.

Since I've drawn Gourmand quite a few times as of recently, I realized I wanted to get a bit clearer on his volumes. Specifically, I wanted to know each of the separate parts of his body and a clearer reference for the flow of it all. So, since I'm realizing I quite enjoy making visual note pages working out the particularities of characters' designs, I spent some time yesterday making this ref for him! Feel free to use it as well, if you'd like!
Also, since it's been on my mind recently, there are some longer thoughts of mine on character design down below!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
After doing the iterator silhouettes, I'm realizing that, in addition to shape language, there's another element I find important which I'm going to call "shape rhythm" for now. Rather than the basic shapes a character is made of, the rhythm refers to how those shapes flow into each other to guide the viewer's eye along the character. I've said before that I enjoy pleasing shapes, so by extent I enjoy when a character has a nice, pleasing rhythm where all of their features flow into each other really neatly!
There's also this other term I use called "weight distribution", that I think is useful too! It's basically where the mass of a character is focused and what it might show or symbolize. I also wanna specify it doesn't necessarily have to be actual, heavy mass too; I'm more so using "weight" to describe the size of things and how much volume they appear to have. For example, if a character wore a big, baggy jacket and had thinner legs, I'd say the "weight" is focused in their upper body, even if the jacket itself isn't literally heavy and their actual upper body underneath is also thin.
Even characters with more extreme body mass, like Gourmand (or Five Pebbles, as I imagine him), could still have the majority of their weight centered at a specific point. This could show what feature that character uses most often, what they think is their most valuable asset (both literally and in terms of what that feature may represent), or perhaps what the people around them notice about them first. Alternatively, you could also hint at a character's internal traits through what parts of their body don't have a lot of mass or emphasis, and perhaps show what they use very little or what is ignored about them. I think what isn't very prominent in a character design could show just as much about who they are as what is very obvious and noticeable about them.
Playing with the distribution of weight and combining it with how each feature guides the viewer's eye to another I believe can be used to make more pleasing character designs, since these elements together can imply a natural flow of energy from one point to another that can be pretty cool to look at, if you ask me! And then again, I just love how it can be used symbolically too, showing what's significant both through what is and isn't given lots of emphasis!
Now, technically, both of these could be considered sub-categories or elements of shape language. Regardless, I wanted to talk about them because I've recently come to the discovery that they can be quite influential in-and-of themselves, and I think they go beyond the general explanations of shape language I've heard so far, to the point they deserve their own terms. I at least am definitely gonna be using them going forward!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
If you read all of this, thank you for checking out these ideas! What are your thoughts on these concepts?

I have this little headcanon cause i was reading the comic of obey me and we as mc have been given the neutral name zephyr in the very early chapters since we are a sheep and all and they want to make it inclusive since the name itself is gender neutral but I was thinking that let's say one day the curse is solved and sheep!mc gets their body back but the characters continue calling mc zephyr, what if one day someone (probably a side or secondary character) brings up the fact that "hey you know what? Your face doesn't really scream zephyr" and mc is like "yeah that's because that is not my actual given name, my actual name is ________" and the characters are like "😱😱😱" I mean they did know that this wasn't their real name since they gave it to them cause they can't just call them human and all but it's still shocking to hear it coming out of their own mouth, they would also probably coo when mc tells them their birth name because it means they learn more about their favorite person, well I mean they would coo at everything mc does regardless so-
