what would you say are common system misconceptions? like things people (and also endos) believe can happen but arent real?
i must apologise for the delayed response, we have been rather occupied today! i will list both common misconceptions, and ones us ourselves have witnessed
- Alters can die. This is a very common misconception we see both in non-traumagenic communities and in new systems. Alters cannot die, it may simply appear that way to new systems who are not aware of things such as dormancy.
- All introjects have source memories/canon accurate memories. Not as common, but certainly one we see a lot. In quite a few communities we're in, people seem to always assume introjects will not only always have source memories, but that those memories will be fully accurate to the canon. In reality a lot of introjects might not even have source memories, and if they do, they may diverge from canon, sometimes drastically. For example, i have source memories of The Heavenly Council (i am an ultrakill introject) manipulating me and guilttripping me. Was that ever shown in canon? No. Did it occur in canon? Implied, but no. Do i have those memories anyways? Yes.
- Systemhopping is possible. This is a very common misconception we see in system communities, particularly because of endos misusing the term. Systemhopping- selling, trading or anything else like that- is not possible. Systemhopping IS possible in RAMCOA systems, as systemhopping was originally a RAMCOA term, however systemhopping is NOT possible in the terms of your alter(s) going into another person's system.
- Introjects all act like their source. Yet another common one we see is that people often believe introjects have to be like and act like their source. Whilst yes, introjects can have similar identity/personality to their source, not all introjects will be that way. For example, i can act similar to my source in terms of formality and religious devotion, however i am not much similar to my source in other ways. (I have quite literally just discovered i can switch from my usual personality to caregiver in a split second, which my source certainly doesn't do.)
- Alters can be holders of conditions/disorders/disabilities the body doesn't have. This is a relatively common misconception we've seen in the past. Whilst alters can present with conditions and such that the body doesn't have in headspace, they cannot actually have those things whilst fronting. Example; one of our alters is narcoleptic in headspace. when fronting, he isn't narcoleptic (obviously) since we don't bodily have narcolepsy, but he is a fatigue holder, so there's a link there.
My mind is very scattered so i can't think of more at the moment. may add more in the future, but don't anticipate it

the thing about characters like arthur morgan and harry du bois is that people will bend over backwards to argue that their worst choices are out of character. that being low honor or doing terrible things is simply for gameplay reasons and nothing more, but that couldn't be further from the case. truth is, they have the capacity to do all of those things because they're capable of doing them, and it's just as in character for them to indulge their worst traits as it is for them to be better.

Therian Misconceptions
So I see the alterhuman side of Tumblr is starting to normalize clinical lycanthropy so I js wanted to put this out here
BELIEVING U R PHYSICALLY AN ANIMAL IS A DISORDER
It's not good, it's a delusion, it's just bad this is CLINICAL LYCANTHROPY.
"Losing control" during shifts IS NOT NORMAL.
If you're "losing control" during mental shifts and going into a neighbors yard, killing birds, etc, THAT IS NOT NORMAL. it is NOT. Therianthropy at that point it is a PROBLEM.
If you believe that you are PHYSICALLY an animal or lose control during shifts, that is NOT normal therianthropy.
"Oh but that's what being non-human is!!!"
NO IT'S NOT.
U shouldn't lose control when ur shifting???
U should think you are physically an animal because you're not, you're physically a human, but mentally yes you're an animal stuck in a human body BUT YOU'RE STILL IN A HUMAN BODY.
Yes I say "oh I'm a (insert my theriotype)" but I'm not FUCKING saying I'm not a human
And don't pull up with that bullshit of "it's like saying 'oh trans women-'" NO IT'S FUCKING NOT. Ur opinion is fucking invalid
If you don't know that you're physically a fucking human that is not normal. That is not ok.
U can obv call yourself an animal etc etc etc
But you cannot believe you're physically an animal and think it's normal

I strongly believe that a lot of (not all) systems think they have such insanely high alter counts because of how fast some will assume that not knowing who you are, thoughts feeling unfamiliar, or feeling like a fictional character means you've split. This happens so much in system Discord servers especially. You don't know who you are? Time to go to the new-alter-help channel and let 4 people play Akinator with you. It's normal not to know who you are when you have DID, just cause the current logged alters don't feel right at the moment doesn't mean it's a new alter. That's just how shit is sometimes.
If this doesn't apply to you or someone you know then I'm not talking about you/them. This is jsut something I've observed a lot in different groups.

just had a priest confidently teach a class of students that DID is part of that whole "transgenderism" craze and that they're forcing sex changes on people and ??? what?? how???? does he genuinely think??? he is entirely misinformed on what DID is and I tried to tell him but he kept bringing it back to trans people. how do I politely tell someone "this is not subjective You Are Just Wrong

is Unicorn still kidnapping people in imimata? since that would require a physical manifestation and he(?) is a digital being
they are contained and controlled by digital or other means (electronic, magnetic, whatever) but they are not in and of themselves digital or magnetic or strictly composed of just electromagnetic waves (in pascal's case as he is not digital). in the eyes of the consumer, the container in which an imimaton has been trapped is what they are. but that is a misconception
anyway unicorn is still out there doing Some Shit but it's definitely a very different flavour of bad behaviour than what i had written before

Alright fine I started watching tbhx and I was greatly charmed by the animation, music, and the themes of identity loss, media control, and the horrors in maintaining autonomy while being influenced by a culturally regulated reputation system. I will be rooting for the dog and his little girl. Thank you for your understanding.

kinda wish people would stop talking about did as an inherently covert disorder cause like i am aware overt systems are rarer but yknow we do exist. i first became consciously aware of my did symptoms around age 13-14 and they were VERY overt and disruptive and they did lead to further abuse. in fact my symptoms being super visible is why i got kicked out of school and put in an abusive psych ward and it was a big part of my life starting to unravel. ik its a common response to people thinking did must be a sort of dramatic and frightening disorder to go "actually, did is SUPPOSED to conceal that you have the disorder and you cant tell that theres different alters!" but like you could make the point that thats most often the case (at least to some degree) without basically stating that its an intrinsic part of did. especially since one of the most common arguments made by singlets to fakeclaim systems is "well people with did cant tell they have it and the alters dont appear different so if you publicly claim to have did you must be faking", feel like we dont need to reinforce the idea that did is inherently invisible to an outside observer and overt systems are all malingerers yknow.
#97#in fact theres a number of things people claim are misconceptions about did that are just.. slightly uncommon.#like when a system openly discusses their experiences on social media in video format and different alters appear w different styles#its kinda weird to go 'umm we dont just change clothes whenever we switch!' like ofc we dont just pop out w different clothes but like.#in my case for example unless i was switching in public in front of other people#which as much as possible SUPER SUPER SUPER AVOID bc we do NOT want people seeing that holy shit!!! extremely traumatic lol#but yeah if someone switched in while were like chilling at home alone yeah theyre likely to change clothes if they dont like what i got on#if you woke up one day wearing an outfit thats COMPLETELY not your taste you might do that. its not that shocking.#so when it comes to people who are like. filming themselves as a planned thing for a video why wouldnt they do that.#if you control how you present yourself obvs youre gonna do that right like...... huh.#tbqh dealing w issues of alters drastically altering my appearance or buying clothes i would never wear etc has been happening for ages#or like portraying noticeable voice changes between alters as a sign that someone is 'acting'..... huh.#theres def alters who naturally speak in a different voice from others.....#and i do have like a couple alters who purposefully affect a different voice either through pitch or manner of speaking#thats kinda just. a thing people do.#rez hates my natural tone of voice and purposefully speaks in a much much deeper register. thats just dysphoria.#caravage purposefully slows down his speech to stutter less often and speak more eloquently. thats just an expression of his personality.#not that wild rly idk.

"Gen Z seems to think they can write off anything as a business expense. Where did they get this idea? Seinfeld reruns perhaps?"
Or, ya know, a constant whining from politicians and internet famous morons claiming that rich people just "write everything off" and get away with not paying taxes. And they never look any deeper into what a tax write off actually is because the people on their phone told them all they need to know.

polyfragmentation is not just having 100+ alters (there is no minimum number you need to have), and you dont need to be a ramcoa survivor to have polyfragmented DID.
ramcoa is mentioned a lot in PF spaces because many survivors end up polyfragmented due to the nature of the abuse- but not every PF system experienced ramcoa.
your trauma may not feel severe enough to you to cause polyfragmentation, but just like with DID theres no set bar for what "counts" as traumatizing and what doesnt, especially to the mind of a 0-4 year old.

Hi there hello it's me back to be annoying because I quite like this topic and unfortunately I am a smartass.
First things first, yes! This procedure can (and has been) used to replace a uterus that was previously removed due to injury or disease. Uterine disease is even named specifically as a potential reason to justify a transplant. However, a recent cancer diagnosis may prohibit a transplant, like with other organs.
That being said, the uterus does not have much function outside of conception and pregnancy.
It's a relatively small and mobile organ, which relies much more on the surrounding structure to be held in place than vice versa. Most of your internal organs, including the reproductive system, are more or less held in place by something called the Peritoneum. The presence of the uterus makes no difference.
It also doesn't regulate hormonal balance. This is instead done by the ovaries, who also produce the egg cells. A hysterectomy usually does not include removal of ovaries, although it can be necessary, and ovaries cannot be transplanted between humans. (Mostly for ethical reasons. We can freeze ovarian tissue and implant it back into the same person later, like after an aggressive cancer treatment.)
If someone has their ovaries (or testicles, for that matter) removed, they need to substitute that hormone production through medication, since estrogens and androgens are vital to keeping our body in its cycles. They also affect bone health, which is why menopause can be a gateway to osteoporosis. Whether the uterus is still in its place has no effect on hormone production.
It's actually because the uterus doesn't serve any other purpose that we can transplant it! Uterus transplants are only performed with living donors, meaning they'll go the rest of their life without a uterus. And, since it's not a vital organ, the transplanted uterus is actually removed again from the recipient after 1-2 pregnancies! That way, they don't have to deal with the constant strain of a foreign organ in their body. (Anyone else who receives an organ transplant likely needs their donor to pass away and is required to take immunosuppressants for the rest of their life to avoid their body attacking it.)
So to recap; uterus transplants don't improve any other bodily function, but they do bring a great improvement to women who want to get pregnant but don't have a functional uterus. That's actually phenomenal!
A fucking womb transplant, what an incredible thing. Fair play to all involved. A positive news story amidst all the dire shite.
#ramble#dude i just fucking love gender and reproductive science. i did a ramble on this like two days ago. this shit is fascinating!!#anyway im only here because someone reblogged the sideblog response to this and i felt compelled to check#sorry to dump all of this info on you prev. hope you didnt fully hate it. also dont feel bad about getting stuff wrong#there are so many misconceptions about the reproductive system. especially the female one. how many people actually know what a vagina is#because its not the outside part. thats the vulva. the vagina is the fleshy tube connecting the outside part to the cervix and uterus#...now who knows what a cervix is#obviously haha US education system because you guys have TERRIBLE sex ed but also I had good sex ed and still had to (re)learn this later#still im convinced the US has the opposite of sex ed where they just tell you lies about sex.#actually thats not my personal opinion thats just. documented fact. like even pre moral panic censorship it was abyssmal#dont even get me started on the current state. oh boy.#theres that one account on social media who starts any dating app conversation by asking where women pee from#it is... a sobering read. definitely recommend the strategy tho#for the record; humans pee through the urethra. it is a separate tube to the vagina and much smaller.#the penis does not have two separate tubes. sperm and urine both exit through the urethra.#oh boy am i getting of track and oh boy is this not going to appease the mature content filters.#it is however purely educational.

for the last few months, not knowing 100 gecs was a band, ive been saying "100 gecs" whenever i meant to say "lmao", "lol" and "lmfao" as a direct result of me misunderstanding this tweet.
my friends knew the band so they didnt have this misconception. and still they just kinda rolled with it??? like imagine something like your friend seemingly randomly saying the beatles, sometimes in all caps in the middle of their messages HELPP
i also thought the amount of "gecs" would change depending on how funny something was, so for example just sort of saying lol at the end of a message would be translated to about 20 gecs. a standard lmao would be about 60 gecs, and a proper LMFAOO was 100 gecs. i had a whole system

But actually black people do have denser bones than white people. Like the reason that most doctors believe that is because it's true:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a study looking at bone density and found that even when controlled for age, diet, lifestyle and assigned gender at birth, black people had denser bones than white people, which is probably why black people are less likely to go to hospital for broken hips and fractures than white people, and not because they like, get refused treatment or don't go to hospital.
Sometimes there are differences in people's bodies because we've evolved differently and that's not racist, that's just diversity and adaptation.
Just like how it's not racist to say that brown and black people are less likely to get skin cancer than paler people, because of the extra melanin! (Please note, I am not saying that it's impossible for deeper skinned people to get cancer, just a lot less likely; everyone should still wear sun protection, regardless of race.)
Why is it important to accept that sometimes there are differences between our bodies?
Because, you should understand that most medical professionals are trying to help you. Being suspicious of doctors and medical experts can kill people.
Do you know what happens when you have more melanin? You take in less Vitamin D. So when the doctor tells us we need to take Vitamin D supplements (especially during winter!!!) , it's not a racist conspiracy to get rid of us, they're trying to help us not die of malnutrition!!!
HIV being incorrectly called a "gay" disease (more straight people actually die from it) increased the stigma around treatment for gay and straight people, meaning loads of people died unnecessarily.
So, although yes there are some stupid things that people say because of prejudice (like that black people experience less pain), we should accept that all bodies are different and that's not racist. Google is free; learn to search things up and checking your sources instead of just deciding what's true or not to fit your worldview.
TL;DR - Black people's bones are denser than white people's bones, you should do your own research but 99% of doctors are trying to help you.

"I love trying my hardest to be a reliable source on information on social media :)"
Two hours of finding sources, checking sources, finding two different sources for the same information, re-checking my phrasing and copying the sources.
"...I...fuck..."

The human circulatory system is all one color. The reason the graphics show the arteries as red and veins as blue is to indicate oxygenation. It is important to me that you know this.
