In truth, I don't really have "playlists". It's usually all just thrown into a single playlist that's either My Library or Favourites. So, we're just going to go with my random songs. Also, I'm using my iTunes for this and not Spotify. Besides a few songs missing between them, the playlists are identical.

Also, all my songs ended up being connected to anime somehow. I'm sorry, but that's just how things work with me.

Butterfly 09 - United Forces Airplay Edit by Smile.Dk

Wow, we're starting with a nostalgic song for this list. If you grew up loving anime in the late 90s or early 2000s you could not escape this song. I believe most people were introduce to this song through DDR, but for me it was through AMV edits. I think the first time I heard this song was to a Rurouni Kenshin AMV. That or Sukisho, which according to the rating, at the time I watched it I was too young. In my defense, it's suggestive at best.

Anyways, the reason I have this song on my playlist still is because I like the beat and energy to the song. The lyrics make little sense, but I still adore this song. I don't listen to it often. In fact, I can't remember the last time I listened to it, but every time I do I'm transported back to my childhood days.

Shogeki by Yuko Ando

Going from a nostalgic song to a recent song, Shogeki is the first ending to the Final Season of Attack on Titan. This song is hauntingly beautiful with lyrics that tug at my heart. Even if you're not an Attack on Titan fan, this song is beautiful and tragic at the same time. I highly recommend giving it a listen.

Muspell Theme from Fire Emblem Heroes

This song is mostly instrumental except for the deep masculine voices chanting + the soprano choir nearer to the end. Definitely gives an ominous tone, indicating threat is approaching. Which makes sense as this song is for the Book 2 villains in FEH. Fire Emblem OST songs are always a great time, so even if you think instrumental isn't your thing, check it out.

SKETCH - Kiro Akiyama

Another anime ending song appears on this list! For the one it's the first ending to Season 6 of BNHA (My Hero Academia). I cannot tell you how much I love this song. The lyrics perfectly fits Izuku's character and many themes in the anime. This is also the ending where they changed parts of the anime to reflect the story moments of the episode.

Again, even if you're not an anime fan, this song is fantastic. The regret of the narrator as the lyrics talk about longing to reconnect, regret missing one another, and the desire to correct miscommunications are bittersweet but hopeful to me.

Dearly Beloved - a cover by Amalee but original by Yoko Shimomura

We end our list with another song from a game OST. This version I'm calling out is a cover by Amalee, where there are lyrics. However, the original is the instrumental song that plays in the menu for all Kingdom Hearts games. Amalee's version with the lyrics weaves a tale of love and hope despite distance from each other, fitting perfectly with the themes presents in Kingdom Hearts. So, even if this isn't the original version, give it a listen. Give the original a listen too! It's an amazing song that makes me want to cry every time I listen.

December 14th, 2024 - IIDX 32, DDR WORLD, PIU 2024 PHOENIX, SDVX EG, GITADORA GALAXY WAVE, Groove Coaster, maimai BUDDiES PLUS, Arcaea, CHUNITHM SUN

...well, that's quite a long title and list of tags! but not to worry, this post will be over in a flash compared to some of my other Super Long Posts. however!!! there are indeed reasons why there's so many games listed in here, and that's because i was going to be arcade and mobile rhythm gaming for... the entire day!!! there was, of course, the usual weekly gekichumai gaming you've likely seen here before, but -- in addition to that -- there was a DDR tournament being hosted at Round 1 in celebration of the host's birthday, and i've been training + grinding to attend this very moment!!! the tourney was at 11 am, a time i was usually asleep or slogging through, so i had to sleep and wake up earlier than usual... and since 11 AM was the time to perform the qualifiers and be seeded, i needed to arrive even earlier if i wanted to get some practice in, and finding a golden opportunity with my mom heading to the mall at the same time, i got everything ready for the big tourney and set off!!

now, one's first instinct with a DDR tourney might be to practice via playing DDR or, well, any dance game for that matter . and sure, maybe i should've done that as well . but instead, i really wanted to scratch a IIDX itch and also get some timing practice in as this tournament would focus almost entirely on EX score and the super tight +/-16.7ms timing windows, so that's what i played for my first hour of being there!!! of the two sets i played, i actually got some neat scores out of them! the first set consisted of a sightread EC on the new Oshi no Ko song (Warera kanzen muteki no idol!! SPA-10) and a sightread NC on take me higher [SPA-10] . but as for the second set? a super impressive warm-up conclusion indeed!!! a sightread AA (and AAA-93!!!) on EMOTiON TRiPPER [SPA-10], a slight upscore on Shakunetsu Lost Summer Dayz [SPH-10], and to end it off with the best score of them all.... an EC on Digitank System [SPA-11] as 11 EC #5!!!!!!!!! we out here scratchin!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, wouldya look at the time!! in just two sets, it was already time for the tourney's qualifying phase to begin, and i was PUMPED . i met up with a friend there who was mostly just participating in the tourney for shits and giggles, and after the rules were announced we got straight to watching the qualifiers in preparation to perform them!!! while we did record videos of each other, i personally don't think they're any good... but the scores were, and i walked away pretty content with my performance on each song!!! (afronova was Ehh, but my massive 61p 1g EX upscore on Jungle Dance? insane...)

so then!!! qualifiers were done, and now it was time to wait for seeding to see when i'd get to play and what levels i'd get to pick from. and then once seeding did come out, i was placed in pool 7 of 11 -- super high up, and a ton of time to wait until my pool round actually began (since this was waterfall format)!! so to pass the time... i went on a miscellaneous rhythm game marathon, playing pretty much everything!!! soooo this is where all the other rhythm games go, as fun as it'd be to see them all get their fair share of action... it was all just a hoax to pass the time before my tourney round . could've been more too, but i opted to go eat instead as all i'd eaten prior to the tourney were a few cookies...

but finally, after several hours of waiting and watching the pools come and go, it was my turn in the spotlight!!! i had some evil picks up my sleeve for this round, and i wouldn't let them go to waste!! so of the songs picked, the only one i really needed to practice was Spanish Snowy Dance [ESP-15] in my first pool as i hadn't played the song in ages, but despite my humiliating performance on the chart -- i pushed through and managed to move up a pool!!! however, there was one thing dead set on stopping my journey through pools, and it was unfortunately the pad issues i faced with my first pool in particular . on the second song out of nowhere (my pick), i was having horrendous issues with the left arrow of my side as it was constantly getting stuck and ruining my inputs where i would otherwise get either marvelous or perfect . it was super frustrating to deal with, and i was afraid it'd be the thing that knocked me out of the tourney, but a saving grace came at the very last moment in the form of switching pads with the player on the other cab... and that was just what i needed to clutch out 2nd place in the pool and advance to the next, where i got the two scores below as the 2nd and 3rd songs of the set respectively!!! unfortunately, i kinda ate shit in the 1st and 4th songs (Cytokinesis ESP-14 and Fascination MAXX ESP-17 respectively) and thus concluded the tournament at a 3rd place in the pool(?) and 9th place overall... but out of 24 participants? that was an impressive performance, i'm proud of it!!! my good awesome buddy made it to the next pool in my place and slayed pretty hard, but he was unfortunately eliminated by all the gimmicky difficult charts played in that set... still, what an amazing overall showing!!! here's to the next local tournament!!!

now, for the second half of the session today!!! that DDR tourney took way longer than expected, and so when i arrived for the gekichumai half of the session, there were only 4 hours on the clock to get any sets in . but that wasn't gonna stop me, as i was gonna dive straight into this session with a dream and a strive for rhythm gaming!!! ...albeit, a very tired one from all the DDR earlier . started off with some Groove Coaster, finally bringing my NESiCA card and working my way up the difficulty unlocks with S ranks on a 10 first, and then an S rank on Dramaturgy [Hard Lv.11]! (would really like to FC this now that i know where all the ad-libs are, though...) . following this were frequent bursts of maimai as i had the chance to play, and while they weren't all banger scores, i still had a ton of fun playing with solo players and my best bud RonDX alike!!!

between maimai sets when chunithm was either busy or unappealing, i busted out Ye Old Phone to play some arcaea and use up my stamina!!! it was unfortunately impossible to get any new PMs in such a loud and crowded place, but i made do with my wireless headphones and got some insane scores on uppers... like this massive 993 on Vicious [ANTi] Heroism [BYD-11] and a 997 on Cyaegha [FTR-10+]!!! thank lowiro for the CC changes to all the 11s... (except grievous and fray ofc)

and now, to end off the write-up and the scores for today: CHUNITHM!!!! many of the songs played here were suggestions from mutuals and friends on twitter, but i also did stop for a little funky play on Kumo no ito (Spider's Thread) [Master Lv.15] with a friend i first met through a project sekai server!!! there's a few other chuni scores that i'm unfortunately not able to include here due to the 30-image limit, so i'll likely include them in the next post as bonuses!! for now though, these were by far the most impressive scores of the session before it came to a halt :] but i'll be back next time with even more gaming!!! so much more gaming it won't be able to fit in two posts, perhaps...

If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? I sometimes use song lyrics for works, but not any one artist consistently. I actually don't think I repeated an artist once, to my recollection (which is admittedly flawed). I enjoy using songs from the '90's and early '00's because they give me a chuckle. Okay so here are my thoughts about the new Sanders Sides episode-

1. Freaking Logan with his big wine glasses. They were growing with time....this guy needs therapy-

2. I know a lot of people are saying that at this point Janus and Remus are accepted as sides, but I really don’t think they are. Not fully anyway. C!Thomas is kinda warming up to Janus but he still has that uhhhh.....uneasiness to him. It’s even more so with Remus. And they kinda got separated from some of the questions...so yeah...I don’t think they’re fully welcomed in regards to C!Thomas. And certainly not to the “light” sides. (Especially Roman and Virgil)

3: Speaking of Roman and Janus, Thomas has a good way of both building and diminishing ships. Like that once scene when Janus was saying that he was the “Voltaire to his Rousseau”...do you know how many people can take that and make content out of it if they know the story? (But of course Roman still does hate Janus and so.....Enemies To Lovers 40k Words, anyone?)

4. Remus just being Remus. Also I both love and hate how we had to get his symbol in a special. It probably wouldn’t have worked any other way. I also ALSO like how Remus knows more than he leads on about what’s gonna happen in the season finale....and that Janus (and himself) spraying soap keeps him from spilling. That’s funny-

5. Janus and Remus playing Patton’s DDR when they aren’t on screen. Thanks Mr. Sanders. Now whenever those two ain’t on screen, I’ll just be thinking of that. Dang it.

6. Janus getting upset about not having his own song (or at least not getting to sing at all.) And also getting mad that he wasn’t included in “Lies” absolutely sent me and I felt that on a personal level.

7. Honestly there’s not much I wanna say about Virgil or Patton themselves. I am hoping Patton does meet a nice pupper to love and I guess I hope Vigil’s relationship with the “dark” sides gets better cuuuus.....I need to know what the heck happens between them. Oh, and Patton calling Janus “Jan” revived something that was long since hidden within me........and that thing is being mild mociet shipper-

8. Logan being the “mom” of the family. I’m gonna have to prepare myself for all of the untagged Logicality posts that will be coming soon....oh and Logan says no to gender roles.

Reflection: But in all seriousness, I’m glad this show got to where it is today. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared that this show would go under because of larger gaps in content and tHe VirUs. And I realized that I, along with SEVERAL others, have been watching these figments of imagination for 5 years. I feel old. I’ve learned and grown so much with this show and it pleases me that it isn’t over yet. I want to thank my fellow fanders that gave the fandom (and the crew) wonderful art and stories and theories and fan edits and etc. And I give big thanks to the folks that joined Thomas’s patron. Let’s Talk Bemani! Favorite songs that everyone should listen to at least once [GITADORA, V1] (2022)

I’ve always wanted to have a “Bemani Corner” of sorts when it came to blogs and what better opportunity than to do it now?

Some context: Many people know me as a dance game or a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) player. Some have seen me get ridiculous scores in the game online, and others have also met me in person and have seen me compete. It’s really cool to meet a lot of people, but many do not know I grew up with BEMANI games. Rhythm and music games were a very influential part of my life growing up and it still continues to be. I’ve made myself known for dance games because it’s more mainstream than a lot of other ones. If I say “Beatmania IIDX” or “Sound Voltex” or “GITADORA”, nobody will even have a clue as to what they are, whether it’s a stranger on the street or someone who plays video games.

The games have produced such incredible songs througout the years, and it’s pushed the boundaries of video game music alongside many other games making an impact. Today, I’m actually not going to talk about the songs from DDR! I am going to list out a couple of songs from GITADORA, or as some may know previously as GuitarFreaks and Drummania. 

Why GITADORA? GITADORA is a game I feel is severely underrated. This game, while slowly building popularity for arcade-goers and music gamers alike (particularly for drums), it gets overlooked quite often. Whether that’s because it’s more rock/guitar-based and not as electronic-heavy, or because it’s not something that the public eye has really put a spotlight on, OR even because it doesn’t have a huge competitive scene yet, this particular game has some of the most incredible music I’ve ever heard in a BEMANI game. It’s one of those games I will say that even if you don’t play the game or have no intention on playing it, don’t sleep on the soundtracks.

While the list below isn’t extensive, these are the top five songs I’d love for anyone who is a guitar-loving, drum-banging, melody-adoring, person to listen to!

pain - BEMANI Sound Team “TOMOSUKE” feat. Jazzin’ parka & frances maya

With a catchy and jazzy beat and such hauntingly beautiful vocals, BEMANI composer TOMOSUKE hits it out of the park with pain, an EXCHAIN unlock that makes for a really good song to dance to or nod your head with while playing. The last time we’ve seen Jazzin’ park and Frances Maya on a song was in walk with you from GuitarFreaks/Drummania V6. This song doesn’t need any more explanation: just start dancing to it at full volume in your house (I mean, I do).

While GITADORA has what feels like an endless list of prog-rock, Green Leaf Sydrome is one of those songs that has this almost incomprehesible mystical uniqueness to it. Being one of the Encore Stages for EXCHAIN, Green Leaf is an epic song with an incredible melody and a terrific piano backing track to guide you through this unforgettable composition. This is Yuuji Yoshizawa a.k.a red glasses’ only entry into the GITADORA series so far, with much of his work being in NOSTALGIA, another BEMANI music game where gameplay focuses on playing a piano to keysounds. For his first song in the GITADORA series? Good lord.

Before Daybreak - TAG

TAG (Yasuhiro Taguchi) has been featured in many BEMANI games. However, many don’t realize that TAG, despite his incredible influences in Dance Dance Revolution and Beatmania IIDX, composed his first song, El Dorado, in 2006 for GuitarFreaks and Drummania V3! Before Daybreak made its first appearance in Guitarfreaks and Drummania XG, retaining TAG’s signature guitar composition that you hear distinctly in songs like 1/n or CHRONOS. Did I also mention that Before Daybreak has its own unique music video? Originally removed in XG2, it eventually came back in GITADORA years later. The video follows a satellite’s journey through space (or at least, that’s what I gathered, aha)

Trust me when I say this: had I not known this was from GITADORA, my instinct would make me believe that this was a final boss song for an RPG. Kirarora Satellite Trajectory is a one-of-a-kind song in GITADORA that musically takes you on an emotional ride with upbeat highs and elegant lows. Again, it’s very pro-rock and there are so many ways I could describe this song, but honestly, have a listen and make that assessment yourself! Kirarora Satellite Trajectory was one of the first Premium Encore stages in EXCHAIN, and just recently became an addition into Dance Dance Revolution A3 as part of an unlcok event.

overviews - vox

Okay, hear me out: I know this song is not over there but I will still recommend people to give it a listen. Overviews is a sequel to one of the most well-known songs in GFDM, over there. However, this song takes a little bit of a different approach. Instead of sounding like its predecessor that comes off bold, memorable, and downright orchestraic at times, overviews takes a more subtle approach, being more of an upbeat serenade that, like over there, is taking you on yet another musical journey. This song can be a little bit divisive for fans of the game as it doesn’t seem to capture the spark that its brother has, but for me, it’s a great song nonetheless.

I have a youtube playlist which, in an impulse of creativity, I named “my music“, so I’m going to go with that.

Sono Così Indie 2018 - Lo Stato Sociale The title means “I’m so indie”, but rest reassured, I’m not! It’s the 2018 sequel of a song from 2010, with the same title They had to make a sequel because in the meantime they became famous, which is not a very indie thing. Best line: “Punctuality is a pain in the ass, it’s a product of capitalism”

No Tengo Dinero - Righeira GOD YES that is or has been my favorite song! Righeira were an Italian duo of pop/electro who sang in Spanish. You  may know them for Vamos a la playa, also in my playlist. The song is awesome and makes me feel like I’m floating in the clouds, but what you really want to see is the video. It’s a mixed technique video made with the rotoscope and it’s so 80′s it’s unreal. If you ask me, best music video ever tied with On Your Mark, which was animated by studio Ghibli, so there’s that.

POP/STARS - K/DA ft. Madison Beer, (G)I-DLE, Jaira Burns YT is apparently doing everything at his disposal to discredit me. This is a music video in which female characters from League of Legends (which I don’t play) sing, voiced by kpop stars. Believe me, if someone makes me experience both kpop and LoL it must be good

Groove Is In The Heart - Deee-Lite One of the funkiest and craziest videos ever. It’s from 1990, and it has aptly described as “the moment the 80′s turned into the 90′s”. May it suffice to say that I’ve got it saved on a playlist named “ppl who got the moves”

Butterfly - Smile I didn’t even remember I had this. But, really, I have no excuse. (the ddr mega remix is better, though)

Cellphone's Dead - Beck I don’t listen to Beck except for a couple of songs (that’s how I deal with music, I’m lazy), but people say he’s a musical genius and I believe them. There’s also a music video for this song which I saw on MTV when I was a kid and I love it.

Talking To A Stranger - Avalanches Rework [Extended] Remember the Avalanches? Those guys who go to the flea market, pick up random vinyls and remix them? Those behind Frontier Psychiatrist? Yeah, now you remember. It’s them! And they clearly do not just remix old records. This stuff rocks AND it’s great to focus at work.

i was thinking about your vacant schneider tag and how he seems to just check out from situations quite often and so easily and how he forgets things, including his own name and idk, i am lowkey curious about how him having to do his military service might have played a role in that. like, i am 100% ready to believe he did it while dissociating the whole time and has genuinely no memory of it.

I absolutely adore the idea that he just floated right through his army time only half clicked into place, left, and promptly deleted that portion of his life from his brain. He does seem to periodically scrub his brain out like you light a computer that's running slow. You can delete the cache it's mostly junk but sometimes an important file is mislabelled and you have to ask someone what your name is it's okay we've all been there.

All his memory space is filled up with the best drumming techniques, the recipe for boiled eggs, and the names of his closest friends and family. The eggs is only barely, he had to write a song to help him remember what to do with it once it's done

Unless we're getting serious in which case regardless of the specifics being there could have shoved his brain out of sync for sure because humans are weird and complicated and I doubt it was the best experience he'd ever had. He's very disciplined and driven (though he used to be pretty cold and angry and I do often wonder if that's why) so maybe he had an easier time of it, assuming that's not why he's like that. I do not know anything about military life in the DDR can you tell?
