Hey hmmm..... So I finished this game.... And well I wanted to make some pixelart you see- so anyway look at my favorite little guys in 2d

You'll notice some designs are a bit different from canon, that's partly because I simplified them to my tastes to make them easier to read as little sprites, partly because they were *kinda* made from memory (esp Justice, Morrigan and Zevran-) fkjjnkc I didn't want to boot up the game to look for good references..... :(( Also I like colors ! I know the game is peak emo but idc give me saturation and pretty colors

Below you'll find a *lot* of yapping about my thoughts on these characters and Dragon age 1 overall (it's very long and is a bit critical so beware-) vvv

Anyway !

To preface this : these are my thoughts after finishing Dragon age Origins and Awakening, I know *NOTHING* about 2, inquisition and Veilguard (well I know you can romance Peter Cushing in this one so fun things to look forward to). So please, do not spoil me even tho I'm sure I'll say things that will probably be expended on or called back to in the other games :))

Anders my beloved, silly little mage of a man, you're one of the few characters in this game who's horny for women but don't give me the ick ! He is funny, he hates cops, he is femme, he is the bisexual extraordinaire !!! Sorry Oghren kept calling you a fag :(

Justice I absolutely *love* the concept

The pain of going from abstract ethereal concept to a decaying corpse of a man. Going from a simple world of evil demons and benevolent spirits, to the complexity of everyday life. Like I think if you gently put your hands on his shoulders and explained to him justice can be used to oppress, to hurt, can be manipulated, perverted into a machine of evil- leave me 5 minutes with him and he'll discover what an existential crisis is :) But well, for one it was a dlc so I knew it wouldn't get much time to be explored, and two it also would require subtlety and that's something the writers aren't familiar with-

But there's also the whole dilemma of the possessing a corpse bit ! Kristoff had a life, had friends and a spouse ! That's less interesting to me than the whole concept to man bit but there's still great potential here !! Like if Dragon age gave a shit about women it would have been such good drama !!

Alistair I was pleasantly surprised !

He's *not* the type of character I usually like, but he did grow on me fkfkkf I still think his design is very bland and boring, but he is such a dumb golden retriever of a man <3

Also the whole discussion you have with him about his inexperience and kind of disinterest in sex, where ofc you can role play as the worst human being to ever grace this earth, but if you're a good friend here the discussion basically boils down to "ok you do you man :) that doesn't change my opinion or how I see you" and I was really surprised in a good way (don't know how this discussion plays out if you romance him, or "harden" him or whatever and I don't want to know- let me have this nice thing fjfkkf)

And btw thank god once again I chose to play a guy in my playthrough- because forcing him to have sex with Morrigan at the end if you play a girl ??? Horrible- we could have had the magic strap evil babie but 2009 didn't have the technology yet...

Dramatic emo girl, love smelling wet dirt. She's so cute ;; and I really liked her ending- she wants to go back to the legion to kill herself, but your character keep making up excuses and very urgent™️ things to do to keep her with them ? Got me hard in the feels ;;

Zevran, I went full the Rasmus for the pixelart and I have no regrets :)

Ok so he *did* grow on me, mostly because I romanced him, but omfg the beginning was rough- like he makes a very compelling first impression, but then he just continuously cat calls any girl you have in your party ?? With the atrocious pick up lines you've heard a thousand times on the streets if you were socialized a woman and everything.... And like, his misogyny truly is inexplicable for someone who was exclusively raised by women, and not any women, prostitutes !! Like how do you end up the "you would be so much prettier if you smiled" guy, when raised by lots of women you probably saw get the same lame lines all day everyday and hate it ?? Oh but that's right ! 2009 video game writer sexism. And as I said, it got better when I started romancing him (even if the end of it bugged out for me, he never offered me the earring a second time-) like idk if the game just ran out of sexpestZevran.wavs or if he stops harassing women when fucking you, but that made him much easier to like 👍 also I love a cringe man with no rizz let's gooo

And I have to say, this screen made me very happy :') I didn't expect them to call back and further expand the romance from the main game ! What a nice touch to end my *check notes* 70+ hour playthrough oh god-

And finally Morrigan !

I really like how she talks ;w; it's so formal and silly ! Unfortunate charadesign tho..... But ! She is the bitchy bestie with whom I made the evil bébé. A baby was made en toute amitié <3

Really wish she'd talk about anything else other than her mother tho- all I'm asking is for a second topic to discuss here... Even in the banter between party members it's very often about her mother !! I know you had a fucked up sheltered relationship with a witch of legends- Girl please give me anything else I'm begging- I was very happy we killed flemeth :) it improved conversations a bit... All the mother talk went to past tense so that was new at least

And since I played 70 hours of this and I love to class things, here's my tier list of every other companions I had in my team (so no Loghain sorry Alistair killed his ass, no man who killed Duncan my beautiful wife in a flashback gets to live)

I think overall I preferred Awakening, even tho it was a sloppy bugged mess and kinda disappointing in therms of quests and payoff with a *terrible* villain, I certainly preferred my final team and the plot had me more intrigued... Origins had plot points I enjoyed, and I can't deny it at least has the advantage of getting better as it goes... Like BG3 is the type of game where act 1 is peak, act 2 is a bit less engaging but still an absolutely banger and act 3 is well messier- so even tho that's an *excellent* game, it's still a gradual downward slope. But on the contrary ! In the beginning of DAO the writing was so bad I wanted to beat up my balls, as us french say, and just stop playing altogether... Went to Orzammar last and that was were the game picked up a bit for me, still not so great writing but there were things here full of potential (if they were implemented better it could even have been great ! Looking at you making us select a politician to support before giving us *any* context or even their political views ??? But that's a cool plot point in concept !) and by the time of the landsmeet your companions have developed a second personality trait and the whole drama with Loghain was fun ! Had a mid ass time overall but at least the slope was steadily going up :)) still inexcusable misogyny tho... and fatphobia. That Awakening made so much worse funnily enough- like without Awakening, since I'm comparing it to BG3, I'd say Origin's "one fatphobic boss design present in every fantasy rpg where you play exclusively as thin women and ken dolls" was less egregious ! Low bar but good job fkdkdk but with the addition of 'the mother' ???? Get the fuck out that makes it actually so much worse-

Of course all this yapping is only my opinions, if Dragon Age 1 is your favorite video game good on you ! There's a lot of things to love here :)

might be a bit of a controversial take? But imo I feel like antis who are either poc or black seemingly make the color of their skin the only redeeming quality of themselves, or just want EVERYTHING to revolve around that

Someone’s OC or anime character is not black? Let’s edit them into a black character! And mind you I have absolutely nothing against black edits. I even agree, black people are unfairly underrepresented in games/anime and this has only recently become a little bit better

but the edits I saw were mostly poorly done or gave the characters blurry oversized Afros that cover 90% of the face and colors that will clash with everything else going on, like backgrounds. Or they would “fix” someone’s art and then claim desaturated art pieces or pastel color palettes were “whitewashing”

Whitewashing is a serious problem that happens and shouldn’t happen so often in media but I’m begging people to understand that lighting, pastel and saturation as color options exist

still working out mfys work outfit. All I know is it’ll have more colored detailing and the blue of her ribbon will be more saturated and bright. Also I need to actually practice drawing mafu, if the number of sketches doesn’t make it clear I’m much more used to drawing kasa,,,

Might also still change kasa’s pants, or add an extra accessory or two, but the top section is firm!

Also shipping, bcs I’ve seen a few comments about it: In the main story I have planned, much like the actual game, nothing is intended. My own preferences will certainly bleed a bit into interactions, but take anything in any way you prefer idc!

That being said, I’ll draw ships with this au, it just will be as side pieces that aren’t in the actual story. So don’t shy away from asking about that stuff, just know it won’t be canon!

i don’t like the blue gay flag just from a graphic design standpoint not any bullshit made up discourse so ok

i have never seen anyone use a simplified version of it like the lesbian flag

the contrast of the blue and green is barely fucking there. if you put the lesbian flag through color invert/negative you can tell that the contrast is MUCH higher

as a color combo it is just not fucking it. there’s plenty of ways to make blue and green look fucking LOVELY, they’re both cool colors(/sometimes with green) and anagolous

it’s worth mentioning that all three blues are NOTICEABLY different hues, whereas the greens are all much closer together. the darkest blue is honestly just fucking purple to me.

the lightest of the greens is a fair bit more yellow than the others, which kind of looks odd with an otherwise VERY cool color palette

i’ve increased the purpliness and cooled the overly yellow teal down, homogenized the hues of both “sets” of colors, and increased the contrast in brightness and saturation and i feel like this is way less. heinous to look at from a design perspective, without obliterating the way it’s designed to be a contrast to the lesbian flag. not perfect idc it’s late

i literally don’t give a shit what anyone does with this because it’s almost 3 in the morning and i just felt like getting mad at colors

some basic info is they're test tube babies!! with their first kid Finney, they don't have her until some years later (can be interpreted however idc) down the line in their relationship after the resonance cascade. 2-3 years later they have Giavanni- who's name stems from Giovonni, Gman's name <3

the kids have familial ties to the science crew in this AU too, Finney being Uncle Bubby's favorite and more of a pupil to him while Gia loves everything about Uncle Dr. Coomer (yes he insists on that)- she thinks hes the coolest person in the world having cyborg parts and stories about boxing. I'd like to think Joshua, Gordon's kid would spent time with them too; either being their babysitter when they were kids or close friends :) and of course they'd take trips to see their uncle, Emmett who absolutely loves them and let's them misbehave too mych when theyre at his place

- very close to both Tommy and Benrey, as a kid she'd hide behind them both and was very anxious outside of talking to her dads; it took a lot of time to help her grow out of the worst of it in her younger years. when she speaks about her emotions, she often goes to Tommy even despite his bad comfort and awkwardness; to her though, its more than comforting to get the weight off her shoulders to someone who's just as awkward as her.

- she's a veterinarian assistant, training to be a vet surgeon and the oldest sister of the two!she's keen on all sorts of animals, more specifically cats (taught herself how to clone a cat, Starry, after learning about how tommy got sunkist w/o permission.)

- her lighter/more 'brown' hair comes from benrey's side of the family, and even gets some of benrey's weird senses or 'powers' regarding shapeshifting, but theyre not very grand. she has a speech impediment as well, similar to Tommy's (and from him) but stammers more certain letters

- she's the most calm out of the two, preferring to stick to herself and being a bit of a work-aholic; she has alot of pride in what she does! unfortunately, she burns herself out frequently but Giavanni's there to help get her spirits up when she can.

- the youngest and currently a kickboxer and a self defense teacher (until I figure out a more solid career/etc for her maybe<:) ), she's very inspired by Uncle Dr. Coomer's strength/stories and her sister's hardworking spirit.

- like her father Benrey, she's always up to something. Gia often finds herself always moving around, scheming something out if boredom or just doing anything if it means she doesn't have to sit still. when she puts her mind to it, shes creative!

- has more of the weirder abilities out of the two, which includes sweet voice! It isn't much, but shes able to sing some tunes. her colors come out more saturated and in patterns, unlike Benrey's smoother gradients in theirs.

- always out to trick people in some way, she loves joking around and goofing off and always manages to get Finney to join in. She never means *much* harm as an adult, but as a kid Finney would always have to put a stop to her antics. It didn't really work too well.

- her favorite animal are bunnies! she may or may not have a secret hoard of them as pets.

judging the art alone, not the fact that we get a new anime or anything exciting like that, just the art alone... it's very pretty!

yea this is very pretty. the kid looks great, small and good, and his hair looks feathery and neat, so I approve. I think they nailed his general proportions, I think they'll do a great job at keeping them consistent during episodes! the image to the right does looks a tiny bit like a 3d asset, which is a bit jarring compared to the previous anime style, but I'm flexible towards this change. even if he looks like a video game cutscene character, I usually love cutscenes!!

but here's the drama I'm sure you're here for. yes, unfortunately, there are some wee things that I don't love as much🤏

the first thing, it really doesn't matter and I should shut up about it now... but YOU asked so ajdjfksksk why did they have to shrink sebs jaw cmon my favorite art of him ever was during the Greenwitch arc so don't tell me I'll NEVER be able to see that style of him animated😫 I just like prominent features man. I know he's meant to be pretty but but but....

ah okay. heres the main thing that I think most people may agree with.

these are two screenies of sebster from the teaser. honestly, as ☆luxurious☆ as his lashes are, I'm not a fan of the left image. the airbrush on his hair feels a tad overdone. I love the attention to detail, especially in the one on the right, it shows a lot of love! but there's just something about it that's a bit off for me.

and I think after 24 hours I've finally figured it out: it's the colors.

the realization started to hit me when I saw my favorite edit so far here by @ashxketchum. the colors have been edited to be much more saturated and warm. and I think this is exactly what is missing here.

I even tried my own hand at it, and yea personally, I think slapping a saturation, tint, and just a BIT of contrast on the whole thing can do numbers on it.

already I like it(no I'm not just praising my own work, it's not the best edit out there I did it in 30 secs). I think the reason for this is because the background is very rich in contrast and warm tones, so the characters(particularly sebastian who is all black) stand out when they are muddy and low contrast. I love stylistically when contrast is high, but that's just a personal thing, and I shouldn't hold a studio to those standards.

I tried it for the poster too though, which again I felt was a bit off. official art has never been the most top tear, and the poster is GOOD, the background is awesome and the two peeps looks amazing. but my problem with it was clear once I did another color edit.

again, I feel like everything was very muted in the left original, not to mention a tad monochromatic. I really think a kick of contrast and hue could do wonders.

BUT. I know that at the end of the day, it's not a big deal. I don't really care. would it make my day or whole year if they slapped a color filter on it, or continued to work on the color grading of the scenes? probably yea! but my opinion isn't obsolete, and most of all, I look forward to and respect the artists decisions.

so no I'm not "fixing" the art😅😒.

Zxl Review

Well I finally got through yet another YuGiOh on this YGO Hell Challenge journey, so I want to quickly sum up my experience before moving on to the final YuGiOh in this challenge. Again, reminding you that this challenge will NOT be including V//r//ains, which means we have saved the best for last. Well, let’s do this...

Also, even though my past liveblogs have been primarily documented here on Tumblr, I opted to express my uncensored opinions on my private Twitter salt account for this show in particular mainly out of respect for those who followed me and didn’t want to see me salt so intensely every single day. For those who enjoy this show, I didn’t wanna be that annoying to deal with. For those who did get to see me salt, however, well... 

You know what’s up.

TL;DR: Zxl is not a show that I have ever preferred. I can understand why others might enjoy this show, however I personally can’t find or take away anything that is genuinely deeply substantial or compelling from it. I feel like this show lives off of being superficially loud and boisterous, dragging generic and vague themes out to give the illusion that they carry any real value. Of course that falls extremely flat when those themes are never explored or developed seriously and meaningfully, only being used for the hollow and unimpressive shock-value they can offer on a surface level.

Season 1 (Episodes 1 - 73)

Like I said, I don’t want to make this longer than I already feel it is; I just want to give my overall thoughts. Zxl has a tendency to introduce too many characters, too many high stakes, too many insignificant side stories (which are also meaningless), etc. at such a grueling pace. This first half of the show is plagued with inconsequential filler episodes AND antagonists (and “rivals”) with incredibly melodramatic roles... it’s just... just... so unnecessary to create a genuinely interesting show. Every climax in this show (not just this season) relies on shock-value reveals that tend to contradict characters’ beliefs, logic, and personalities.

Presentation-wise, this show is overall decent as they don’t often have noticeably bad animation, on the contrary Zxl overall tends to remain consistently well-animated. The only problem stems from the gaudy, overly color-saturated designs of various characters and card/monster designs. Character-wise, there are few decent designs like IV and Akari. Everyone else though? This show is consistently.... not a sight for sore eyes, I’ll tell ya that.

The soundtrack design is.... *shrugs*. Not terrible, but also, often extremely boisterous, which I suppose is appropriate. But none of the soundtracks are memorable at all.

As for the main point I suppose I should have mentioned: Yuma & Astral’s relationship and development.... well... this season did a not too bad job at developing their relationship (but no one else’s much), at the expense of copying DM’s Yugi & the Pharaoh’s relationship in terms of concept and setup. However, if it leads to something more wholesome and impactful? Well, that’s to be argued....

Overall rating for this arc: 1.5/5

Season 2 (Episode 74 - 146)

It might be a bit unfair to not break down this season into a series of components, as I did for my 5D’s review, however this season decided it’s overarching plot and its filler were one and the same so *shrugs again*.

This is the part of Zxl that gets good, according to many fans. That’s terribly subjective, of course.

And I’m sure my opinion that this season of Zxl is the worst half is also terribly subjective. Long story short, if season 1 was marred with superficial plot-less messy inconsequential subpar writing, season 2 is that but somehow worse. You didn’t think it could be but it was. With another unfantastic element added to the mix: repetition. Endless repetition in duels, in character “deaths”, in “reveals” (which aren’t reveals if the audience already knows everything that’s being “revealed”), in backstories, in “consequences”, etc. There’s repetition everywhere. Oh and retcons. There are plenty.

This is the culmination of too many unlikable, insignificant, and expendable characters in one 70+episode span, which I didn’t think was possible. And none of it matters because the themes are so convoluted and jumbled up, the ending of this season (and the show) doesn’t actually lead up from the exploration of any of the attempts of surface-level themes presented, it leads into a cliffhanger-teaser for a sequel that is extremely unlikely to ever happen, and a rewrite of anything in this show that COULD have had some consequence. So yeah, in the end, nothing that ever happened in this show matter. None of the characters experienced a growth in persona or self-reflection. The only thing we get is basic themes that can be stated and moved on with like “we can all learn to get along” (and yet nothing that led up to this final “conclusion” ever actually formulated satisfyingly) that stem from no other foundation of any of the so-called values introduced in the show. It’s all very hollow. 

I guess lastly my conclusion is that none of these characters actually are different than who there were when they were first introduced. None. (”But Sai—” THEY DID NOT DEVELOP, THEY WERE SIMPLY WRITTEN SO INCONSISTENTLY AND/OR INCOHERENTLY THAT THEY DIDN’T EVEN HAVE A PERSONALITY TO BEGIN WITH. THEY WERE JUST TROPES FROM THE START.)

Oh and also, I almost forgot: Yuma & Astral have an impactful, wholesome relationship? IMO, no. If anything, I saw so many red flags in it, in particular in this season of the show, in regards to it possibly even being a toxic relationship, but I don’t wanna get into the specifics of it and as I said this is subjective (tho as someone who has lived through some of these red flags, I’m not gonna be arguing with anyone in regards to this because lmao idc enough about them or about your opinion against this).

Lastly, I really despise the Barian designs. I’m happy for you if you liked they’re inflexible faces and gaudy.... appendages (?) but I’m different.

any tips on degreasing? i have a white tail deer skull from hunting (for food dw) and i let it decompose completely naturally outside in a hole i dug and filled with sawdust for bugs to eat. well its completely clean now and ive had it for a few years but its still got that yellow-tan ish color to it and ive only recently heard about degreasing? whats the pros of degreasing and like what does it even do? is it just for color? any tips on going about it? also u can answer publicly if u want idc

Degreasing is an important step in the sanitation process as it leaches out the natural oils from the bone. Depending on what bone cleaning method you use and how naturally oily the bones are dictates how much you need to degrease. ‘Natural’ cleaning methods such as open-air, burial, and maceration don’t usually require too much degreasing after cleaning because the process itself will partially degrease the bone, especially if it’s being cleaned for several months. Methods such as dermestid beetles and simmering will require degreasing because the bones have no chance to naturally degrease while being cleaned. 

Here’s an example of a rabbit I recently cleaned. After beetle cleaning it was still saturated in a ton of oils and took nearly three months to get all the grease out. I started off using dish soap and water, but after a month the rabbit still looked like this: 

So I changed it to a stronger solution of ammonia and water and two months later it was finally clean and ready to be whitened:  

Since your deer was cleaned via burial it’ll always have a bit of a natural dirt stain, but degreasing it for several months will help improve the color and remove any oils still in the skull! In the end the color is just up to personal preference. Some people like the natural bone color, which is a manilla color or lighter, while others like the bone white color as seen here:

Both skulls are degreased and cleaned, but the darker one could still be finished off to the bone white color, it’s just a matter of personal preference!

I use three different solutions to degrease depending on how greasy the bone is. For baby animals or animals that aren’t naturally very greasy, I use dish soap and water and let the bones set out in the sun for a few weeks. For intermediate animals, or animals I don’t mind degreasing for several weeks/months, I use a solution of clear ammonia and water. It’s a stronger solution and removes the grease very well, especially if you can use a fish tank heater to keep the water warm. The last solution is acetone, which is reserved for very greasy animals. I don’t use it a ton because it’s the most expensive of the three options and is a more dangerous chemical to use (it’s highly flammable and needs to be stored in an acetone safe container and you need to wear a respirator when around it), but it can be reused for several months before having to dispose of it. It can get even the most greasy animals done in 1-4 weeks, but should only be used if you have a proper space to store it. 

For your deer I’d recommend a 2 month bath in ammonia and water, changing the water every 2-3 weeks. Afterwards you can whiten it in peroxide and see if it needs an extra few weeks to get it cleaned to your personal preference!

i have no obligations ever really.......like IDEALLY obviously i like to draw but. i very rarely.......am drawing..........and like, yknow, watch a movie or smthing i guess i-dea-lly.........bake something?? idea lee? i’m not sure like. frankly historically Me Being Nice To Myself involves like, going out and about on my own so that i can like, do stuff, and be around people. in college all the time i went to the coffee shop on the corner not so much for the coffee as for like, going there to sit on my own and do the stuff i’d do on my own, but while being Around People. and i tend to be talk-starved so anytime i could go out to be there with friends would be great If it was a group who i could talk with and not end up third-wheeling (i was usually third wheeling *D: emoji*)

18: what’s the last book you remember really, really loving?

this is really a tough one actually lmao......besides not reading many Books in recent yrs it’s like. it’s hard to think of ones i Reaaaallyyyy liked.......i mean biiiig throwback but in middle school i coincidentally discovered and ended up reading all the john bellairs books at the middle school library, which are horror and like, pretty Gothic and just really managed to capture a tone of genuine dread and danger lot of the time. the mummy the will and the crypt (i think??) and the spell of the sorcerer’s skull were big faves. most all the books involved some Latent Evil Magic Force Curse Entity starting to return, and i remember in the former there was uhh, the evil entity was something which could transform into anything, including like, a shadow / pool of moonlight on the floor, and the only way to detect its proximity was through holding a candle and the flame would turn blue if it was close, and like, i remember there was this part where the 10-ish yr old protagonist and his pal were sort of lost in the dark in the rain and some guy in a raincoat talks to them and they run into his body later and it’s all husk-ified (the mummy, i guess) and that’s what happens if the evil entity Gets you. and in the climax of the book the protagonist is just entirely alone in the recently abandoned mansion in which this Entity kinda resides.....it was all Intense. and in the latter book the protagonist’s adult neighbor friend just vanishes and it’s some Curse thing where another evil shadow killer creature is like, gonna be this friend’s Doom if they don’t find him, and idk there was some part midway through where protagonist child is on a train trying to go to this town where the missing friend might be and then starts having this vision of Evil Skeleton Passenger staring at him while he’s paralyzed and then another vision past that involving going into this abandoned eviller shack and like, obviously my descriptions are shit but the books i always felt like did a great job of giving the sense that there’s this very threatening and oppressive Enemy which is both lurking in the peripheral but also at times like, more immediate so that it feels like there’s a dangerous confrontation / near misses. i also always remember this one scene from another book where the kid character is in the back of a car being driven by the Wizard Adults at night, and these headlights start tailing them though they’re going down back roads and stuff, and the adults get real tense and like, nothing much happens except for the sense of Impending Danger Tension increasing, and they lose it via a bridge with the ol Cross Running Water lore.......and like the kid does Nothing but a) all the books have younger protags (with the eldest being a few books about older teens / 20somethings) who are friends (or adopted in the case with the Wizard Adults) by older people like, 60s or 70s or so, and as a kid i was more comfortable around adults than other kids and especially people in that 60+ age range, so that was cool, but the kids in these books actually feel like they’re kids in that the adults are actually like, looking out for them and stuff, and while they inevitably Do end up doing more than a kid should reasonably do on their own, there’s also always plenty of scenes where just like, an adult will intervene and take care of shit. anyways they were really good and i’ve definitely read other books i like in the meantime but like, unfortunately it’s really hard to pick a book that i like really genuinely Flip for ykno
