Music in I Saw the TV Glow
Possible spoilers ahead so read at your own discretion (I’m bad at determining how much information is too much)
I’m a firm believer that one of the most important facets of I Saw the TV Glow is its soundtrack. I don’t know if Schoenbrun has an uncanny ability to track down music that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of teenage ennui or if they’ve just got really great taste. Seeing this in a (mercifully silent) movie theater really let the soundtrack form an immersive layer around me, and the moment the first notes hit, I was 15 again. Unsure of myself, extroverted on the outside but barely connected to my insides, and feeling like I was just playing a role I’d molded from what I assumed people wanted of me. The dreamy, atmospheric chords that wound around soft lofi voices with only a guitar or a keyboard called to the part of me that wanted to connect but didn’t know how.
There’s something to be said about the order of songs on the soundtrack, although it’s been awhile since I listened to an official soundtrack that was a compilation rather than a score so maybe changing the track order isn’t as radical as it feels. For now, I’m just going to talk about a couple of songs, although I’m sure as I listen obsessively to the rest, I’ll have way more to talk about.
Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl by yeule
We start with the opening credits song that haunts my TikTok fyp, Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl. This is a cover of the original sung by Broken Social Scene. The original has a whisper quality- repeating lyrics over a simple acoustic melody with strings rising in the background as the refrain starts. It feels like a girls’ garage band of the grungy 90s, almost the vibe we need but not quite.
The covering artist, yeule, is a nonbinary Singaporean who is said to “…incorporate elements of ambient, glitch, and Asian post-pop…” (Wikipedia) which makes this version much better suited to an analog horror about 90s TV nostalgia. In yeule’s version, the same acoustic melody opens to a new beat made up of interchanging robotic and static tones, while in the background, strings wait for their chance to swell in the space between the verse and refrain. It sounds like an android is slowly waking up to be this jaded pop singer who’s just existing at this point, not living. The lyrics are the same as the original, and speak of someone that’s changed, either the singer or maybe a friend that left them behind.
You used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that.
Now you’re all gone, got your makeup on and you’re not coming back.
Bleaching your teeth, smiling flash, talkin’ trash under your breath.
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.
In the context of the film, it feels like the crisis of identity both main characters face. This isn’t my home, you’re not my dad. The memories don’t feel like they’re yours, they belong to someone else. You’re different now, but also you know you were different then, and you’re only different now because you’re hiding in a disguise you hate. And, at least in Owen’s case (depending on your interpretation of the film’s ending), you’re not coming back. You’ll just dream about the person you know you are because you’re too far into the mask to find them again.
The bass joins in on the refrain and the ambience grows with glitch noises interspersed throughout. A strange sort of beauty begins to show and blooms when the drums kick into the chorus. You’re a teen again. It’s raining, you’re like Owen in the car, stretched across the backseat and staring at the ceiling, full of a feeling you can’t name that’s so much more than just being bored.
On TikTok, this song has become associated with a trend of kids, all much younger than me, sharing their stories of transness that was rejected by the people in their lives. A lot of them have detransitioned for safety and comfort, what little they can find by pretending it was a phase. It’s what drew me to this film, because the piece reflected their state of just physically existing in a world they don’t feel is theirs. For a lot of them, this film gave them hope or gave them new determination to make space for themselves, and I love that about it.
Another Season by Frances Quinlan
Immediately after this, we jump to the closing credits song that plays to a theater full of sobbing patrons who got it and laughing patrons who didn’t, Another Season. The jump is jarring, especially when you’re driving away from the theater in a throat-closing rush of tears (ie: me) and you’re brought straight from the introduction of this neon haze that is the suburbs to this fuzzy, pink screen that watches you come to terms with what you’ve just seen. The static breaks to silence except for a soft, melancholy acoustic melody. A soft voice speaks as if to a friend, and the chorus repeats, “If this isn’t over, what else could take shape? How will you remember it?” In the moment, especially post-there is still time, it feels like a call to action as you leave the theater crying. What could happen next? How are you going to remember your life? There are definitely multiple interpretations to this film, but I wanted to feel hope at the end, so for me, putting this song over the credits felt like Jane saying, “yes, it’s scary, and I’m leaving you to wonder what happened to Owen, but what we aren’t going to do is wonder what’s going to happen to you because there is still time.”
There’s so much more to look at in the choice of music and its juxtaposition with the visuals, but I’m going to leave this here for now with the opening and closing. Suffice to say, go see this movie. Support indie film, make the journey, it’ll be worth it if this resonated with you (but also why did you read this?? I’m sure there’s at least one mild spoiler in here).

[[Introduction and Tag List]]
(Updated in 2025 January 22nd)
Helloooooo fellow Tumblr users and lurkers!! My name is Sivon/Tivon/De, which are names I chose for myself because I want to keep my real name protected.
[My nonsense acc is @wherever-snakes-go-i-go, and my reblogging account is @sivon-goes-reblogging] [My acc for posting and acting like The Sludge is @moss-thing3]
I may be more fond of being referred as she/her, though I have no problems being referred to as anything else! It's mostly from how I see gender, regarding the fact that I do have one! It's just difficult to define it (I'm nonbinary.)
I am an artist, a writer and a gamer! Though drawing takes a lot more time for me to do because it's easy for me to get distracted, as well as the fact that it takes some time for me to finish sketching, linearting and shading, since I'm a bit of a perfectionist... But it's quicker for me to write! Which might result in less than perfect grammar, forgotten words, incorrect use of words and spelling. I'm no English major!!!
Since I can play both mobile, browser and laptop games, I am somewhat good with shoot em up games, just not that great at PVP... I keep dying LMFAO
(Deimos spotted up here. Yes it's him I see similar to myself.)
My interests are, from my biggest to miscellaneous fixations: Madness Combat, Murder Drones, ENA: Dream BBQ, Wreck It Ralph, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sonic the Hedgehog, snakes, Speculative Evolution/Biology, robots, aliens, eldritch abominations, godlike critters and finally... OCs and AUs.
You see, my brain is obsessed with different iterations of existing medias, ranging from absurd and ridiculous ideas to the most bafflingly different concept that it makes people raise their brows or be exasperated from the idea. Though I do it for my own interest and impulses!!! I think so much I got to write them down!!
+ Creations +:
I spend quite some time fleshing out my original characters, species and even my AUs, though it may be scattered information because my thoughts move by so quickly I can't keep track of them!
Here are the lists of species I've made, with enough fleshed out information to be included: Pyerns, Gyrdats, Yrphes, Dryadronts, Hynuas
I am definitely not going to add my character list here, because I just have too many of them... Both fandom AND original wise, so I'll just add my AUs here:
The Zilogyte Trio, Serpent Madness (Pyern AU of Madness Combat), Pyern AUs in general
(I only listed these three AUs because they're the only ones that are the most consistent in my mind and what I remember the most, in general)

Finally! The moment that I have been waiting for! The perfect way to organize my tags just so I can remember what they're for!

Behavioural Notes: I'm way too talkative for my own good, and forget things a little too much ... I also struggle with certain phrases no matter how obvious they can be, so it'll take time for me to process what you mean! I may be socially awkward. Yeah. I'm also easily nervous so don't expect me to reblog too much.........bleegh
I do have this odd tendency to climb into any public activities and fandoms, but eventually crawl back into my private space... I do this VERY often so i am.... kind of reclusive after a while of socialization in a group
I am also passionate over characters, whether they're your ocs or characters from existing media! I love varying takes and diverse headcanons of characters!!!! RAAAGHHH!!!! I also don't mind being dumped with headcanons and AUs and things!! I love creativity..... Even the stupid kind of creativity too..,,

okay quick update on the stuff i'm working on for my website for october (i'm writing this while i take a break from editing my 3.2k word review of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice because damn that's a lot of words to keep looking and tweaking at over and over again).
for those not in the know, i have a (wordpress) website where i post my poetry and movie reviews. near the end of this post, i've made a list of future non-Halloween-related projects i have started working on and intend to finish, so i ask you to peruse that list and see if there's anything there of interest.
firstly, i'll go over my october/Halloween-related posts.
things i've finished writing and have scheduled to post:
-a review of Alien: Romulus (which will be going up on tue 1st october) -a review of Coraline (which will be going up fri 4th oct)
things that i have started writing, have yet to finish but am fairly confident i will finish in time for october:
-a review of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice -a review of Speak No Evil (2024) -a review of Imaginary -an essay about bigfoot found-footage horror movie Tahoe Joe
things that i still need to start but hope to post in october:
-a review of MaXXXine -a review of A Quiet Place: Day One -a review of Abigail -a review of The First Omen -a review of The Substance
things that i would have liked to post in october but will work on when i'm not under time pressure:
-an essay about Ghostwatch (i will be rewatching it in october so i'm hoping that once i've seen it again i'll be able to make some more progress with the essay) -a ranking and review of the Paranormal Activity movies (i'm going to do a full rewatch of the Paranormal Activity movies in october to celebrate Halloween, but i don't think i'd want to compromise the depth i want to go into for the sake of releasing it in october)
seeing as there's a lot of horror movie-related stuff i want to write, it's not like october will be the only time of year that i post anything to do with horror. the main reason i decided to focus on horror for october is 1. so that i can have a month with a regular posting schedule after posting sporadically for the past several months, 2. so i can have enough horror-related posts that i might attract some potential loyal readers who would be interested in my horror opinions as well as my non-horror opinions, 3. it'll be fun to focus on horror stuff for Halloween and will be my way of celebrating the holiday outside of watching a horror movie every night. i'm aiming to get a post up every tuesday and friday in october, but if i end up writing enough, i'll post on sundays, too.
as well as movie reviews of movies i've been to see at the cinema this year, my website also has my poetry and a couple of essays/articles, one about Gonzo, Muppets from Space and being nonbinary, and one about Heartstopper season 2.
beyond the posts i want to release in october, there are some other things i will resume working on after Halloween. these include:
-a ranking and review of every Hulurama episode (so far) -a ranking and review of The Land Before Time movies (from someone who's got a soft spot for them) -an essay/article about Penelope Featherington -an essay/article about anthology episodes in adult animated sitcoms -an essay/article about Carol Ann Duffy's poetry collection the World's Wife -other movie reviews (some that i've started include Robot Dreams, Barbie and Argylle)
i might also use my website to post about my original fiction projects, but i haven't actually made much progress with any of those beyond jotting down some ideas, so i'll consider that when there are actually updates to make.
if any of that sounds interesting to you, i'd really appreciate if you checked out my website. i've worked really hard on the writing i've done for it and i will continue to work hard and improve. i'd also appreciate if you reblogged this post if you have any mutuals who might be interested in reading and keeping up with the stuff i write.

Favorite Books of 2020
I wanted to put together a list! I read 74 new books this year, and I keep track of that on Goodreads - feel free to add or follow me if you want to see everything! I’m going to focus on the highlights, and the books that stuck with me personally in one way or another, in approximate order. Also, all but two of them (#5 and #7 on the honorable mention list) are queer/trans in some way. Links are to Goodreads, but if you’re looking to get the books, I suggest your library, the Libby app using your library, your local bookstore, or Bookshop.
The Faggots & Their Friends Between Revolutions by Larry Mitchell, illus. by Ned Asta (originally published 1977). I had a hard beginning of the year and was in a work environment where my queerness was just not welcomed or wanted. I read this in the middle of all of that, and it helped me so much. I took this book with me everywhere. I read it on planes. I read it on the bus, and on trains, and at shul. I showed it to friends... sometimes at shul, or professional development conferences. It healed my soul. Now I can’t find it and might get a new copy. When I reviewed it, in February, I wrote: “I think we all need this book right now, but I really needed this book right now. Wow. This book is magic, and brings back a sense of magic and beauty to my relationship with the world.” Also I bought my copy last July, in a gay bookstore on Castro St. in SF, and that in itself is just beautiful to me. (Here’s a post I made with some excerpts)
Once & Future duology, especially the sequel, Sword in the Stars, by A.R. Capetta and Cory McCarthy. Cis pansexual female King Arthur Ari Helix (she's the 42nd reincarnation and the first female one) in futuristic space with Arab ancestry (but like, from a planet where people from that area of earth migrated to because, futuristic space) works to end Future Evil Amazon.com Space Empire with her found family with a token straight cis man and token white person. Merlin is backwards-aging so he's a gay teenager with a crush and thousands of years of baggage. The book’s entire basis is found family, and it's got King Arthur in space. And the sequel hijacks the original myth and says “fuck you pop culture, it was whitewashed and straightwashed, there were queer and trans people of color and strong women there the whole time.” Which is like, my favorite thing to find in media, and a big part of why I love Xena so much. It’s like revisionist history to make it better except it’s actually probably true in ways. Anyway please read these books but also be prepared for an absolutely absurd and wild ride. Full disclosure though, I didn’t love the first book so much, it’s worth it for the sequel!
The Wicker King by K. Ancrum. This book hurt. It still hurts. But it was so good. It took me on a whole journey, and brought me to my destination just like it intended the whole time. The author’s note at the end made me cry! The sheer NEED from this book, the way the main relationship develops and shifts, and how you PERCEIVE the main relationship develops and shifts. I’m in awe of Ancrum’s writing. If you like your ships feral and needy and desperate and wanting and D/S vibes and lowkey super unhealthy but with the potential, with work, to become healthy and beautiful and right, read this book. This might be another one to check trigger warnings for though.
The Entirety of The Daevabad Trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty. I hadn’t heard of this series until this year, when a good friend recommended it to me. It filled the black hole in me left by Harry Potter. The political and mystical/fantasy world building is just *chef’s kiss* - the complexity! The morally grey, everyone’s-done-awful-things-but-some-people-are-still-trying-to-do-good tapestry! The ROMANCE oh my GOD the romance. If I’m absolutely fully invested in a heterosexual romance you know a book is good, but also this book had background (and then later less background) queer characters! And the DRAMA!!! The third book went in a direction that felt a little out of nowhere but honestly I loved the ride. I stayed up until 6am multiple times reading this series and I’d do it again.
An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon. I loved this book so much that it’s the only book I reviewed on my basically abandoned attempt at a book blog. This book is haunting, horrifying, disturbing, dark, but so, so good. The character's voices were so specific and clear, the relationships so clearly affected by circumstance and yet loving in the ways they could be. This is my favorite portrayal of gender maybe ever, it’s just... I don’t even have the words but I saw a post @audible-smiles made about it that’s been rattling in my head since. And, “you gender-malcontent. You otherling,” as tender pillow talk??? Be still my heart. Be ready, though, this book has all the triggers.. it’s a .
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender. This book called me out on my perspective on love. Also, it made me cry a lot. And it has two different interesting well-written romance storylines. And a realistic coming-into-identity narrative about a Black trans demiboy. And a nuanced discussion of college plans and what one might do after college. And some big beautiful romcom moments. I wish I had it in high school. I’m so glad I have it now! (trigger warning for transphobia & outing, but the people responsible are held accountable by the end, always treated as not okay by the narrative, and the MC’s friends, and like... this is ownvoices and it’s GOOD.)
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. My Goodreads review says, “I have no idea what happened, and I loved it.” That’s not wrong, but to delve deeper, this book has an ethereal feeling that you get wrapped up in while reading. Nothing makes sense but that’s just as it should be. You’re hooked. It is so atmospheric, so meta, so fascinating. I’ve seen so many people say they interpreted this character or that part or the ending in all different ways and it all makes sense. And it’s all of this with a gay main character and romance and the central theme, the central pillar being a love of and devotion to stories. Of course I was going to love it.
Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars: A Dangerous Trans Girl’s Confabulous Memoir by Kai Cheng Thom. “Because maybe what really matters isn’t whether something is true, or false. Maybe what matters is the story itself; what kinds of doors it opens, what kinds of dreams it brings.” This book was so good and paradigm shifting. It reminded me of #1 on this list in the way it turns real life experience and hard, tragic ones at that (in this case, of being a trans girl of color who leaves home and tries to make a life for herself in the city, with its violence), into a beautiful, haunting fable. Once upon a time.
I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver. I need to reread this book, as I read it during my most tranceful time of 2020 and didn’t write a review, so I forgot a lot. What I do remember is beautiful and important nonbinary representation, a really cute romance, an interesting parental and familial/sibling dynamic that was both heartbreaking and hopeful, and an on-page therapy storyline. Also Mason Deaver just left twitter but was an absolutely hilarious troll on it before leaving and I appreciate that (and they just published a Christmas novella that I have but haven’t read yet!)
The Truth Is by NoNieqa Ramos. It took a long time to trust this book but I’m so glad I did. It’s raw and real and full of grief and trauma (trigger warnings, that I remember, for grief, death (before beginning of book), and gun violence). The protagonist is flawed and gets to grow over the course of the book, and find her own place, and learn from the people around her, while they also learn to understand her and where she’s coming from. It’s got a gritty, harsh, and important portrayal of found family, messy queerness, and some breathtaking quotes. When I was 82% through this book I posted this update: “This book has addressed almost all of my initial hesitations, and managed to complicate itself beautifully.”
Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro. I wasn’t actually in the best mental health place to read this book when I did (didn’t quite understand what it was) but it definitely reminded me of what there is to fight against and to fight for, and broke my heart, and nudged me a bit closer to hope. The naturally diverse cast of characters was one of the best parts of this book. The romance is so sweet and tender and then so painful. This book is important and well-written but read it with caution and trigger warnings - it’s about grief and trauma and racism and police brutality, but also about love and community.
The Prey of Gods by Nicky Drayden. This is a sci-fi/fantasy/specfic mashup that takes place in near-future South Africa and has world-building myths with gods and demigoddesses and a trip to the world of the dead but also a genetically altered hallucinogenic drug that turns people into giant animals and a robot uprising and a political campaign and a transgender pop star and a m/m couple and all of them are connected. It’s bonkers. Like, so, so absolutely mind-breaking weird. And I loved it.
Crier’s War and Iron Heart by Nina Varela. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVED the amount of folktales they told each other with queer romances as integral to those stories, especially in Iron Heart. A conversation between the two leads where Crier says she wants to read Ayla like a book, and Ayla says she’s not a book, and Crier explains all the different ways she wants to know Ayla, like a person, and wants to deserve to know her like a person, made me weak. It lives in my head rent-free.
Queen’s Shadow by E.K. Johnston @ekjohnston . I listened to this book on Libby and then immediately listened to it at least one more time, maybe twice, before my borrow time ran out. I love Padmé, and just always wish that female Star Wars characters got more focus and attention and this book gave me that!! And queer handmaidens! And the implication that Sabé is in love with Padmé and that’s just something that will always be true and she will always be devoted and also will make her own life anyway. And the Star Wars audiobooks being recorded the way they are with background sounds and music means it feels like watching a really long detailed beautiful Star Wars movie just about Padmé and her handmaidens.
Sissy: A Coming of Gender Story by Jacob Tobia. I needed to read this. The way Tobia talks about their experience of gender within the contexts of college, college leadership, and career, hit home. I kept trying to highlight several pages in a row on my kindle so I could go back and read them after it got returned to the library (sadly it didn’t work - it cuts off highlights after a certain number of characters). The way they talk about TOKENISM they way they talk about the responsibilities of the interviewer when an interviewee holds marginalized identities especially when no one else in the room does!!! Ahhhh!!!
Bonds of Brass by Emily Skrutskie. Disclaimer for this one that the author was rightfully criticized for writing a Black main character as a white author (and how the story ended up playing into some fucked up stuff that I can’t really unpack without spoiling). But also, the author has been working to move forward knowing she can’t change the past, has donated her proceeds, and this book is really good? It has all the fanfic tropes, so much delicious tension, a totally unexpected plot twist that had me immediately rereading the book. This book was super fun and also kind of just really really good Star Wars fanfiction.
How To Be a Normal Person by T.J. Klune. This book was so sweet, and cute, and hopeful, and both ridiculous and so real. I had some trouble getting used to Gus’ voice and internal monologue, but I got into it and then loved every bit after. The ace rep is something I’ve never seen like this before (and have barely read any ace books but still this was so fleshed out and well rounded and not just like, ‘they’re obsessed with swords not sex’ - looking at you, Once & Future - and leaving it there.) This all felt like a slice of life and I feel like I learned about people while reading it. Some of the moments are so, so funny, some are vaguely devastating. I have been personally victimized by TJ Klune for how he ends this book (a joke, you will know once you read it) but it also reminds me of the end of the “You Are There” episode of Xena and we all know what the answer to that question was.... and I choose to believe the answer here was similar.
You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson. I wish I had this book when I was in high school. I honestly have complicated feelings about prom and haven’t really been seeking out contemporary YA so I was hesitant to read this but it was so good and so well-written, and had a lot of depth to it. The movie (and Broadway show) “The Prom” wants what this book has.
Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth. I never read horror books, so this was a new thing for me. I loved the feeling of this book, the way I felt fully immersed. I loved how entirely queer it was. I was interested in the characters and the relationships, even though we didn’t have a full chance to go super deep into any one person but rather saw the connections between everyone and the way the stories matched up with each other. I just wanted a bit of a more satisfying ending.
Honorable Mention: reread in 2020 but read for the first time pre-2020
Red White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I couldn’t make this post without mentioning this book. It got me through this year. I love this book so much; I think of this book all the time. This book made me want to find love for myself. You’ve all heard about it enough but if you haven’t read this book what are you DOING.
In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan @sarahreesbrennan . I reread this one over and over too, both as text and as an audiobook. I went for walks when I had lost my earbuds and had Elliott screaming about an elf brothel loudly playing and got weird looks from someone walking their dog. I love this book so much. It’s just so fun, and so healing to read a book reminiscent of all the fantasies I read as a kid, but with a bi main character and a deconstruction of patriarchy and making fun of the genre a bit. Also, idiots to lovers is a great trope and it’s definitely in this book.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. This book is forever so important to me. I am always drawn in by how tenderly Sáenz portrays his characters. These boys. These boys and their parents. I love them. I love them so much. This is another one where I don’t even know what to say. I have more than 30 pages in my tag for this book. I have “arda” set as a keyboard shortcut on my phone and laptop to turn into the full title. This book saved my life.
Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. This book hurts to read - it’s a story about trauma, about working through that trauma, healing enough to be ready to hold the worst memories, healing enough to move through the pain and start to make a life. It’s about found family and love and pain and I love it. It’s cathartic. And it’s a little bit quietly queer in a beautiful way, but that’s not the focus. Look up trigger warnings (they kind of are spoilery so I won’t say them here but if you have the potential to be triggered please look them up or ask me before reading)
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. When asked what my all time favorite book is, it’s usually this one. Gail Carson Levine has been doing live readings at 11am since the beginning of the pandemic shut down in the US, and the first book she read was Ella Enchanted. I’ve been slowly reading it to @mssarahpearl and am just so glad still that it has the ability to draw me in and calm me down and feels like home after all this time. This book is about agency. I love it.
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman @chronicintrovert . I’ve had this on my all-time-faves list since I read it a few years ago and ended up rereading it this year before sending a gift copy to a friend, so I could write little notes in it. It felt a little different reading it this time - as I get further away from being a teenager myself, the character voice this book is written in takes a little longer to get used to, but it’s so authentic and earnest and I love it. I absolutely adore this book about platonic love and found family and fandom and mental illness and abuse and ace identity and queerness and self-determination, especially around college and career choices. Ahhh. Thank you Alice Oseman!!!
Leia: Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray @claudiagray . I have this one on audible and reread it several times this year. I love the fleshing out of Leia’s story before the original trilogy, I love her having had a relationship before Han, and the way it would have affected her perspective. I also am intrigued by the way it analyses the choices the early rebellion had to make... I just, I love all the female focused new Star Wars content and the complexity being brought to the rebellion.

2020 top five recap
so @r0b0tb0y tagged me to do this and it turns out i am a slut for being tagged in things. LET’S GO.
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (or so) favourite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works.
1. i told you when i came, i was a stranger
(the mandalorian/dincobb)
so this one’s a wip, but i’m pretty damn proud of it so far. if i had to point to a fic that ticks every box on ghost_teeth bingo, this would be it: sad-sack dudes dealing with trauma poorly, wildly pretentious dream sequences, song lyric title, ordinary tragedies, gross metaphors, legendary hangovers, passive-aggressive cuddling, and an eventual good-enough ending.
2. for a moment there, i thought we were in trouble
(the mandalorian/dincobb)
i have no excuse for this. it’s 100% id. it pretends to be deep but it’s just a couple of lonely middle-aged men whacking off in a public restroom.
3. red all over
(detroit: become human/hankcon)
on twitter, i threatened to put the twinky robot on mars for the Ultimate Blueballs Experience and i followed through. i don’t know SHIT about outer space, but there’s a lot of nudity and Gay Yearning to distract from that. also i shoehorned some highly functional robo-lesbians in there.
4. once more, with feeling
(danger days: the true lives of the fabulous killjoys/kind of gen???)
i regret the title, but whatever. the danger days universe was my comfort fandom through the first half of quarantine, so naturally i had to write something sad for it. i love me a groundhog day-style fic but somehow i’d never written one until this. you can pry feral-nonbinary-asshole party poison from my cold dead claws.
5. ‘til the water rises
(detroit: become human/hankcon)
i wrote this one for a mermay anthology organized by a lovely soul on twitter. i generally don’t go for merpeople aus, so i wrote something more on-brand for me (creepy, gross, sad). kinda pleased with the conciseness i managed in order to stay within word-limit rules (which nobody else followed).
let’s see... i’m tagging @wolfhalls and... @susiesundrop if ya feelin it?

bi-ish weekly update
time sure passes huh. meant to do one last week but I wrote like 5000 words on Wednesday instead, and I’m not really sure what happened yesterday but maybe Thursday is my new day for these
listening: two for the price of one this week since I’m excited about both of them. first of all, obviously, is the Sangfielle theme by Jack de Quidt because it’s time for a new season of Friends at the Table. I love their description of this season’s music
the other thing I’ve been listening to is the new album from one of my fave bands, You’re Welcome from A Day to Remember. this is by far not the most musically interesting or complex song on the album but it is about, as far as I can tell, a bad breakup with a vampire and I love it for that just on principle, but also it’s fun! a fun pop punk-esque bop about breaking up with a vampire!
youtube
reading: since last time when I talked about many romance novels I was reading, I mostly just read more romance novels because sometimes that is all the brain can handle. shout out to KJ Charles for writing a historical romance with a nonbinary main characters, you really do love to see it. I appreciate that she puts trans characters in her books, and I hope that someday she writes one with a trans man as a main character, because that truly would be a book targeted directly at me.
I’ve also been reading the Kate Kane, Paranormal Investigator series by Alexis Hall (author of Affair of the Mysterious Letter, a weird fantasy queer Sherlock Holmes retelling that absolutely fucking slaps, highly recommend).
this is his author bio from the Kate Kane books, which really just sets the tone and also. what a fucking life goal
anyway. series starts with Iron & Velvet which is currently on sale, which is why I bought it, and it also fucking slaps. I’m like halfway through the last book right now but they have all been good and fun. Kate is like. archetypal disaster p.i. but done in an interesting way (i.e. the narrative actually addresses the depression and the alcoholism in a way that I personally really appreciated), and also pretty much every woman in the ~supernatural community she encounters is an ex or someone she will flirt/hook up with at some point, which is an accurate representation of every irl queer space I’ve ever been part of. she dates a vampire for a while. hot morally questionable vampire lady. the vampire power structure names positions after tarot cards it’s very fun and sexy and tailored specifically toward my interests. also she lives in the same part of London as my ex-girlfriend so it’s. fun to recognize place names and be like. oh I went there on a date once huh
watching: started watching Turn A Gundam because a twitter friend recommended it as being fun and also very different then any other Gundam series and they were right on both counts. the premise of it is ‘what if a bunch of people went to live on the moon and some people stayed on earth, the moon people got real into super advanced technology and the earth people are larping the 19th century, and now the moon people want to come back’ so there’s a fun mix of visual styles. would love to see serious analytical writing on this show by someone more versed in discussing indigeneity/colonialism than me though because there are things that I’m a little bit hmmm at but I don’t know enough to be able to explain why or know if that’s the right response to have
don’t know what’s up with the dude on the left’s sunglasses but my friend has promised me the fashion choices only get weirder
I know about the ‘wow cool robots’ meme but some of the mech designs are very cool and visually distinct both from each other and from the standard blocky humanoid shape that lots of mechs are, so that’s fun to see. and they’re all different sizes too, which for me at least makes it easier to get a sense of the scale of the conflict/threat. when they’re all the same size it’s easy for me to forget they’re like 40 feet tall but when some of them are 40 feet and some of them are like 10 feet it’s a lot easier to be like. oh. oh shit. these are big and destructive and scary as hell
there are mini versions of this big mech that are like. the size of one of its feet
also there’s some fun stuff about how the way society relates to a mech and what a mech is used for can change over time, which is part of what is maybe inspiring me to get back into trying to write games, because between Turn A and the fic I was writing about Integrity Friendsatthetable I was like. hey what if a hack of The Ground Itself by Everest Pipkin, a game about a place changing over time, except instead of a place it’s a mech
playing: finished Knife of Dunwall finally! please clap! I was kinda half-expecting not to keep to low chaos in the last mission because there are so many overseers but I did it! I did do a bunch of accidentally getting into fights, killing a bunch of people, and then reloading an earlier save so I could go back and not kill those people but it’s fine. anyway. fun game, fun level once I got the hang of it, and I do feel like I accomplished something a lil bit difficult so that’s a nice feeling. definitely harder than the main game. also, very sad about Billie and gay for Delilah. she shows up just to threaten you and then disappears again, and I think that’s pretty hot of her. also love the narrative parallels of having the choice to spare Billie and then the game ending with Corvo about to decide whether to spare Daud or not. I just think that’s neat
making: made some Thai green curry last week from this recipe, which was tasty and not too hard to make, but has just enough specialty ingredients to make it a lil bit too expensive to make too often. our grocery store only ever has lemongrass when we’re looking for things that look kinda like lemongrass but aren’t, and didn’t have any when we need it so we just used extra lemongrass paste and lime juice for the lemongrass, and for the kaffir lime leaves, which we were also supposed to substitute with lemongrass but. it’s fine it was still tasty
writing: a lot somehow, although it’s been over two weeks since last time I did one of these so I guess that makes sense. I wrote a couple of things for 15 Days of Friends at the Table, including Broun, Milli, and Thisbe cottagecore roommates, Clem and Gucci bickering/flirting, and an extended dream sequence that makes me very sad about Integrity (I’m very proud of the last one, I know it has a very small target audience because Sokrates/Integrity is very much a rarepair in an already small fandom, there are 6 works in the tag, 4 of them are by me, 2 of them are by the same other person, and one of those is a gift for me so. it’s mostly just me, but I think I wrote something pretty good)
also meant to write more for Persona 5 Girls Week, although so far I’ve only written one thing, a quick fluff fic which for once requires very little knowledge of the source material. meant to write something for today’s prompt but instead I had two job interviews and then cooked dinner for my household so that probably will not happen and I will probably watch more Gundam instead

Joining the Lost Light
After months of checking facts in mtmte and on Whirl, then getting busy with the holidays, and having @sybergeist review and help fix a few things, my little x reader fic about a human joining the crew of the Lost Light is finished and ready. I'm honestly not very confident in my writing, so if this gets enough likes and reblogs I might do more.
Now, this is highly based off my self insert joining the Lost Light, so there are mainly female pronouns used in this. I can always go back and make versions for male and nonbinary readers.
It does take me a while to write things, so I apologize in advance for very inaccurate uploads of my writing and self insert stuff.
-----------------------------------------
This was not what you had been expecting when you agreed to go on a camping trip with some friends from work. You didn't expect them to all suddenly have different reasons to cancel on you. You didn't expect to have automotive trouble—and you most certainly didn't expect to be abducted by fifteen-foot tall alien bugs . It didn’t help that they used some kind of gas to knock you out on their way to an alien planet so you wouldn't try to get away at that time. You still aren't sure how your escape happened, but you are now on the run from them.
You ducked into an ally next to some kind of giant store, clutching your large bag filled with your stuff you brought with you for camping. All you know is that if those alien bugs find you, you'll be sold as some kind of pet, and you didn't want to find out which kind of pet they meant.
You heard two "people" exit the giant store and tried to take a quick peek at what they were when you fell with a loud thud. The noise must have drawn their attention because soon you had two shadows on you. One loomed over you while the other seemed much smaller than the other. "Is that someone's holoform? It doesn't look familiar," said the large, mostly blue robot. You were nervous since you had no idea if these robots were with the bugs or not, but your curiosity won out.
"Um… What's a holoform?" you asked, hoping you didn't sound dumb.
"I think this is a real human, Skids!" said the small, black and white robot. You noticed it kind of looked like he had a camera on its head.
"I am a real human," you said without thinking.
"How did you get all the way out here?" asked the blue bot, apparently named ‘Skids’.
"Long story short,” you began, “I got abducted by some big alien bugs that wanted to sell me as some kind of pet."
"I guess this counts as one of those dark underbellies you were telling me about, Rewind."
As he spoke alongside Rewind’s nodding, three more robots came out of the store and over to you and these two bots. You had thought Skids was tall, but seeing the huge purple bot with one horn, you were promptly corrected on that thought.
"Skids, Rewind, What do you have there?" asked an orange bot that looked like he was wearing glasses.
Skids moved out of the way so the other three could see you, "it's a real human, Rung," he replied.
"Oh my!" Rung didn't have time to ask anything more before one of those alien bugs, who abducted you, had found you. You quickly grabbed onto Skids' leg and hid behind him. "That's one of the bugs that abducted me!" you told him in a hushed tone.
It walked up to the bots, but its eyes were on you.
"There you are! You had us worried! Running off like that to play games with us. Thanks so much for finding her!" it said, laying on the lie thick.
"The way she's acting doesn't really suggest she's comfortable with you," Rung replied.
"And she told us that she was abducted and was going to be sold as a pet." Skids added, seemingly watching the bug closely. You wondered briefly if he knew how to read body language.
"Oh, she's such an imaginative one. We're trying to get her home, back to her planet," it lied to them with ease and confidence. You suddenly realized that this bug has done this before and now you worried if these bots would hand you over without a fight.
Skids must have sensed your discomfort. "You're lying."
"What?! I would never!" it started, but was cut off by Skids explaining how he knew it was lying.
"Fine. How much do you want for her? Human pets are pretty popular though, so no less than a 100 shanix as a starting price."
"We will do no such thing! There is no way that this is legal to do." Rung said, seeing that the bug was trying to sell you to them, or at the very least trying to buy you from them. Before things could escalate, the bug was sent flying by a new bot that showed up. This one had, what you could only describe as ‘chicken legs’, one big eye in the middle of his face, and claws for hands.
"Did you see how far that guy went?! Bet he won't be getting up anytime soon! Ha!" the new bot said before turning to you, "So... who's holoform looks like that?"
"Not a holoform. She's a real human." Rewind said. You came out from behind Skids, into full view of this new bot. "I wasn't there when this happened, but I remember that the Wreckers had a human help out with a mission. She was a tough little thing. Wonder if this one is like her?"
"We'd like for her to stay in one piece, Whirl." Skids said, seeming to indicate that Whirl might not be the best bot to be alone with.
"I know you have no reason to trust us, but you are welcome to come with us so something like that doesn't happen again." Rung suggested, holding out his hand to you.
You thought for a moment. All of them, except Whirl, seemed like they wouldn't do anything bad to you and were friendly enough. Even with the purple bot looking grumpy.
"Okay. But only if I can leave this planet with you guys." You went over to Rung and he lifted you up onto his shoulder with a smile.
"Of course!"
The seven of you soon came to a pub of some kind. You had learned that the purple bot was named Cyclonus and the blue and white bot was named Tailgate. You also told them your name was (y/n). They had told you they were meeting back up with two other crewmates, named Swerve, and Ultra Magnus. Rung quickly explained to both of them the situation you were in. The larger bot, who you assumed was Ultra Magnus, seemed like he was having issues holding his drink. You weren't really sure what could make robots drunk. Swerve seemed like he was ecstatic to meet a real human. You all talked and you were actually having fun with them. Things got rocky though, when Cyclonus just laid Whirl out for no reason, while Rewind was showing a video of an old spaceship called the Ark 1. When it came time to leave, they ran into an issue. It seemed like Ultra Magnus was too heavy and awkward to carry all the way back to the ship with them as they are. They made plans to come back and get him with these holoform things they were talking about before.
You agreed to go back with their real bodies, but stayed with their bodies since you didn't know anyone else on the ship. When they got back, it wasn't long before Cyclonus and Tailgate showed up, too. The ship took off and now you were faced with a new problem; having to face the captain of this ship. You were so nervous as you waited for him to show up. You had no clue if he'd be nice or throw you off the ship with no way to survive. After all you only had that big bag of your stuff, not a space suit. You had some food that would last you for a week, but you worried about the possibility of them not letting you stay, and surviving on your own.
Turns out the captain is a very relaxed bot. He explained a few days later that they couldn't get in touch with their home planet, Cybertron, so they couldn't send you to Earth. But you pointed out that all humans dream of either going to space or going on a quest, and right now you had the chance to do both. You wanted to stay and help any way you could. Rodimus liked your enthusiasm and spunk and allowed you to stay as an official crew member.
And thus began your life on the Lost Light.

pls tell me abt ur ocs
*looks at my giant list of OCs* ...where do i start?
Welp I have an idea that I’ve been wanting to discuss for a while and kind of did during Nonbinary Week and I will gladly use this as an excuse to talk about it so thank you very much anon (genuinely thank you I didn’t actually expect to get any asks about my OC when I reblogged that sjkfhfljh)
I’ll put this under a read more so if people aren’t interested they dont have to hear me blabbing on about my characters
I’m going to be talking about 5 characters but I’m not gonna like… go too deep into them cause that involves delving into some more personal matters that if I were to ever fully share them I would need to give each of them their own posts. And they also have what I call 3 arcs… which again, I would have to discuss in their own posts.
These characters are who I call my “Editors.” They are characters that have never faded, so to speak, like other characters do, and were created as I went through pivotal parts in my life. When I was younger I attributed them to helping write my stories and I’ll talk about that a little bit, but I’ve also formed this narrative around them as they have existed. So right here I’ll discuss their first arcs the most.
(I’d like to point out since it’s important to the overall narrative that their collective stories exist inside my own mind or creative space. As such, since fandom is an important part of my creative upbringing, all of my Editors save for one (kinda) have a tie to one specific fandom but can span across multiple. They aren’t self-inserts, but they are OCs that existed within a canon of one or another fandom piece that also directly connect to their own stories.)
So let’s start with Sarasona Nova. She is the “Original” Editor (she technically isn’t but that isn’t here nor there right now). As she stood in the place of my persona for many, many years she has earned her spot to be one of the heads of storytelling. I contribute mostly plotlines and ideas to her because more often than not, if it makes sense it comes from her. She is the level headed one out of any of the Editors. She starts out pretty sweet, before any of the other Editors come along, but then she has her first true experience with fandom and she becomes very negative and critical towards it. The only reason she offered any story ideas for fanfics back then was because all of my motivation was towards it. This evolves further in the story into full on obsession with controlling stories and characters and everything having to be exact and perfect.
At first this doesn’t cause problems, not even when the second Editor comes into the picture: Dream/Dimension Ruler, or DR as I refer to him (his name has always been fuzzy). When DR first came into existence his purpose was to create settings and scenes for Sara’s stories to play out in, as well as be this caretaker almost for the out-of-use characters. He and Sara work together on a lot of things and are both fairly excitable people when it comes to creating, but Sara is more focused on the current story while DR is looking at the potential in others. He is perfectly fine with his role until he wants to start creating and telling his own stories, which Sara shoots down. She writes the stories, she’s the leader, she tells him what to make. Over time, this really breaks DR down and he slowly becomes less eccentric and enthusiastic in his creations or his personality. He stops looking after characters not being used, and over time they do start to fade into nonexistence. A character that hasn’t been totally neglected notices DR’s vulnerable state and decides to use this to her advantage.
This is Manipulator, or Mani as I call her. Mani is a character that was created for a specific fanfic that actually eventually gave way to a larger original story and left her’s almost abandoned. She didn’t even have a name. At this point characters were supposed to figure themselves out, name and personality wise unless they were able to be fit into a story where things were figured out for them. Since Mani didn’t have a story anymore, she was kind of left on the wayside, no matter how often she bothered Sara for something, anything, to work with or do. Mani decided she wanted to be an Editor, maybe even the lead Editor. DR had been trying to help her and Mani decides to help him in return, by trying to take down Sara and everything she’s ever created. Through her namesake, she manages to become an Editor in direct rivalry to Sara. She became responsible for the conflict in stories, becoming the main antagonist of Sara’s story.
And her biggest contribution to this was through getting rid of the Editor Glitch. Glitch was this “broken” character that came into existence. Sara was confused by them, asking them their name, and didn’t get anything in return. Sara thought they were a mistake or something, since most characters usually have something to go off of to begin with but Glitch had nothing. After a while, it was revealed that Glitch was the Editor for characters and their creation. They were every character at once in every story while they themself were barely sentient. They both understood emotions and didn’t comprehend them at all, wanted to save the world while also wanting to end it, could kill without hesitation while also not being able to hurt a fly. This caused them to be almost robot-like, where they knew every single possible reaction to a given scenario and would choose the safest option by not reacting or reacting in what they would assume to be the most logical manner. Mani manages to trick them and trap them into a specific fandom that only had one main story that kept changing. They got caught up in this ever changing story and eventually became a character themselves in it, and them fully taking over a character for themselves became a part of the story.
That eventually leads into the second arc of their current stories. But amidst the third arc the last (current) Editor arrives in the form of Skylar Roch. Sky pretty much came out of nowhere in context of characters, and was practically shoved into the role of Lead Editor, much to Sara’s dismay and Mani’s amusement. Sky does their best to help the other Editors, including Sara, with all their issues but is filled with their own as they try to juggle this responsibility that they were thrust into without any knowledge of how to do it. Sara is resentful towards Sky and tries to point out that she should still be Lead Editor, meanwhile Mani, DR, and Glitch are all pointing out the awful stuff she did to them as Lead Editor.
Eventually, they do get a happy ending. At least… currently. Their stories continue on for as long as I live, so we’ll see, I suppose.
This is a lot longer than I meant for it to be and I have barely scratched the surface of these characters and this story. Maybe one day I’ll write it and post it, alongside the fanfics that go hand in hand with them. But for now, that day is not today.
Still, thank you tons for giving me an excuse to babble on about these guys!

About Me
(Since I’m too lazy to actually make a Carrd.co for this, I decided to be different and just make this a text post)

An In-Depth Interpretation & Analysis of the Binary Bard’s Dream on Super Villain Island
(Spoiler warning for Poptropica’s Astro Knights Island and Super Villain Island)
Also, warning... there’s a lot under the cut.
To start off, you might want to read these screenshots. We’ll use them later. However, I’m going to summarize and explain them when we get there, so you don’t have to read them. It could be helpful, is all. Screenshots taken from Dreammoods.com.
Several important symbols are present in Binary Bard’s (Mordred’s) dream, which your player is entering to obtain his “totem of evil,” in hopes that its removal will remove the evil from him. When you enter his dream, he is sitting on a tall chair beside a door that opens and shuts rapidly, blocking any access. He wails to you (something along the lines of), “I’m trapped in this room. This door seems to have a mind of its own!” When you freeze time, he exclaims that you are brilliant and yeets through the door. You then make your way through more of those doors and some floating platforms (the background is spacey here) until you reach him for the boss battle. You see him complete his transformation into the Binary Bard in the center of a large clock, and you must freeze time when the clock hands are at certain positions in order to electrocute and defeat him. He fades away and drops his astrolabe totem.
What does this mean? Well, if you don’t know the lore and backstory behind Mordred/the Binary Bard, or need a refresher, go check it out on the Poptropica Wiki. I’ll still summarize it for you below.
♠ Mordred was a brilliant scientist and inventor in the Kingdom of Arturus. One day, he began experimenting with combining animal DNA with robotics, creating animal-robot hybrids. Most notably, he created Merlin the owl, his closest companion. The king and queen of Arturus found his work obscene and blasphemous and banned such practices, and then jailed him. Mordred escaped, however, and continued his work in secret until the royal forces discovered him. He then fled to space, leaving everything behind, and was thought dead. ♠ Flash forward several years. At some point, Mordred had attached robotic parts to himself and took on the name Binary Bard, and was universally known for attacking planets. The princess of Arturus joined a secret society of Mordred followers/worshipers who believed Mordred was still alive and had been right in his experiments. She began exchanging letters with Mordred, now known as the Binary Bard. The Binary Bard sent five space crafts to attack the kingdom and kidnap the princess, and was successful, leaving Arturus princessless, distraught, and in ruins. The king and queen sent out three knights to seek out the princess, but they never returned. ♠ Shortly after this, your player (who I will call Bronze, after my own character, Bronze Hamburger) arrived in Arturus and was tasked with bringing the princess and the knights home. Bronze found and befriended Merlin and managed to get into space. There, he met aliens who warned him of the Binary Bard and equipped him with a ship that would carry him to three particular planets. After visiting each and rescuing the knights there, Bronze discovered an asteroid that housed the key to Mordred's Fortress, a temple in another dimension. He traveled there, and the Binary Bard pretended to be the princess to steal Bronze’s weapons. Fortunately, Merlin betrayed the Bard and helped Bronze save the princess. Bronze, Merlin, the Princess, and the three knights departed from that place, locking the Binary Bard alone in his extra-dimensional prison forever.
So, using the context of Mordred’s past, we can extrapolate a meaning to his Super Villain Island dream. As a refresher: When you enter Mordred’s dream, he is sitting on a tall chair beside a door that opens and shuts rapidly, blocking any access. He wails to you (something along the lines of), “I’m trapped in this room. This door seems to have a mind of its own!” When you freeze time, he exclaims that you are brilliant and yeets through the door. You then make your way through more doors and some floating platforms (the background is spacey here) until you reach him for the boss battle. You see him complete his transformation into the Binary Bard in the center of a large clock, and you must freeze time when the clock hands are at certain positions in order to electrocute and defeat him. He fades away and drops his astrolabe totem.
► The presence of the door (I’m using the third paragraph of the door section here) very clearly symbolizes Mordred’s anger when the monarchy of Arturus banned his innovation and jailed him for carrying it out. This is the simplest of the symbols to analyze, so we started here. Get ready to dive in. ► To interpret the aspect of freezing time, I had to extract elements from the section on time and the section on “frozen” and combine them. A frozen something represents either a coldness/bitterness toward that something or the repression/denial of that something. Time represents fear of not being able to cope, aging, or anxiety [about time running out]. Everything I could think of in this regards related to him having a refusal to move forward. I have a few takes on what this could mean specifically. [1] It reflects his refusal to move on from his blasphemous experimentation in spite of the monarchy’s laws; perhaps out of some fear (fear of the unknown? Fear of letting go? I wonder where that developed, if anywhere at all...), but perhaps not. He held onto his experiments and even applied them to his own body. [2] It reflects a fear of growing old. We do not know precisely when or why the Binary Bard made himself half-cybernetic, so it’s possible that he did this to extend his lifespan. This may have been so that he could have more time enact his revenge on Arturus. [3] It reflects his grudge-holding. After being jailed, his intentions turned dark. Even after fleeing Arturus, he continued to take out his rage and terrorize other planets; the residents of Pewter Moon attribute their state of ruin to an attack from him that was made prior to the one on Arturus, and cite that he is a well-known space terrorist. All of these ultimately fall under a “refusal to move forward” umbrella. ► Okay, the clock ties in somewhat with the frozen time. It signifies anxiety about time progressing/running out, deadlines, rut, lack of progression, or -- most interestingly -- the human heart/emotional side of life. There are a lot of facets to this, so I’m gonna try to keep each one short. I already covered the anxiety about time passing in the paragraph above, and deadlines ties into that closely. The rut part is something to dive into, but I will come back to it. The human heart/emotions part is particularly noteworthy because the scene featuring the clock is the scene in which the Bard completes his transformation from human to half-human. Dreammoods.com specifically states that “clocks symbolize the ticking of the human heart and thus is indicative of the emotional side of your life.” I am lead to believe that this clock -- taking into account the fact that he transforms inside the clock and that the clock is his demise -- reflects that Mordred is repressing his true emotions (possibly hurt, betrayal, etc) and replacing them with feelings of rage and lashing out at the world. Now, back to the rut. According to Dreammoods.com, a backwards-moving clock “parallels the way that your life is going. Instead of moving forward and progressing toward your goals, you feel that you have not made any significant accomplishments. You feel you are stuck in a rut.” Allow me to first point out that the “moving forward and progressing” aspect ties right back into my analyses of frozen time and of the clock, affirming the hypotheses. In the 10/10 segue of the century, I’m going to analyze this along with the electrocution. ► It’s when you electrocute the Bard that the clock hands reverse their direction. Electrocution represents impending disaster, fear of consequences for one’s actions, and a lack of awareness of one’s surroundings. When electrocution, reversed clock, and the circumstances are put together, this is what you’re left with: Binary Bard’s own fears, self-importance, and narrow-sightedness are getting in the way of his progression as a person (of his moving on) and will lead to his demise in the end. ► I ended up going a bit out of order, because I started to debate whether space was really relevant; it could just be a reflection of his lore in a literal sense. However, it’s worth noting that space represents independent thinking, which could tie into the narrow-sightedness/lack of awareness of his surroundings from the electrocution symbol.
Put in the context of his lore/backstory, everything within Mordred’s dream makes sense from a character standpoint. The symbols align with his position, internal conflict, and emotions.
And this is just my take. You don’t have to believe that dreams mean any of this stuff; you don’t have to have interpreted it the same way I did (I’d love to hear y’all’s interpretations of things!). I love this character a lot. On many levels, I relate to him-- high intelligence, being repressed by others, trouble letting go of grudges, covering up own emotions, and being nonbinary (that’s canon to me. Let me have this in peace without quarreling about it). My love for both this character and psychology (the analysis of dreams especially) are what prompted me to dig deep into this topic. I’d be happy to know what you think, how you interpret it, and whatever else you have to say!
