This is how I see gargoyles, just like my favorite gargoyle statue from Notre Dame de Cathedral with the angel wings and spitting its tongue out. Yeah, that one! I drew this during my participation of Portfolio Day on social media. As you may all already know, I’m an illustrator who draws both traditionally and digitally on Procreate. Realism is my favorite illustrative piece to draw because I drew everything beautifully especially the grotesque ones like gargoyles. Well, I think they’re beautiful! 🤭💕 Don’t you agree?

magritte and his work is actually so incredibly interesting, he's gone one record to say, "My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, 'What does that mean?' a lot of his works feature incomplete figures to convey that either painting as a whole is a fraud or the pieces of art themselves are, and even with 'L'acte de foi,' i believe that it was actually part of a larger exploration of the idea that people can very easily misunderstand the world by only experiencing it through painting or images in general. i definitely gotta look into him more because what i know seems very surface level, but he's just. very interesting

except by purposefully producing meaningless pieces, he draws around his idea of meaning, and his idea of what OTHER PEOPLE's idea of meaning was, thus creating a depiction of meaning in negative. being meaningless is in itself a meaning, a will. i read that the titles of his paintings were found by brainstorming with friends about what would describe the emotion evoked by the sight of the painting. if you can feel it, if you can name it, it's a meaning. it means its own title at the very least. fucking obsessed. what a painter. i don't even like his style visually that's the thing.
