#ts4 platforming bug

Hey, I had this problem with this save as well. This didn't happened the first game day, it happened three days into gameplay. I wound up doing a LOT of research to determine if I had a mod problem or some other bug. Even in a fresh load with no mods installed, this continued to happen.

I don't know about for @forever-lbsims who asked, but in my case as the game crashed, the clock stopped even as the sims kept moving. I was posting about my issues when I got a lovely and helpful response from a simmer telling me the problem was called "platforming" and is common in things like old legacy saves. @emptyairsims sent me these messages:

In my case this simmer was absolutely right. Looking up the common name for it, that was exactly what was happening to me in this save.

In my specific case, I took out all mods but the ones for clubs (hey now, those are the most fun in your save!). I then went through EVERY household and purged ALL of the items from all of the sims inventories. Pictures, collectibles, homework. All of it. I also deleted maybe four families from living in the world and virtually purged the homeless bin.

After that, the platforming stopped. I played two full sims weeks no mods to verify. Then another two full sims week WITH mods to verify. That save is now probably 4 sims years in ( going by seasons) and is still going strong.

I apologize for never bringing it up to you, @islerouxsims . I had the opinion that if this save wasn't having a platfroming issue for you, possibly it was just an issue on my machine. I see now that isn't it. If it is happening with enough other people, I might recommend starting with purging inventories. You may not need to go as full into deleting sims and homeless sims as I did.

I love this save, I was determined to make it so I could play it again! The last version I had was two versions ago, that one had no platforming for me.

Edit: I played with a new sim, not one of yours. She was living in the Growing Together world. I don't think that makes a difference, but just so you know. It was the most recent version last fall. Is that vr 8?

I wanted to let you know I'm not able to play in your save file. It crashes at 12:03am every single time I try. :(

are you experiencing game breaking glitches? heres some help!

ive been a simmer for quite some time now, and ive seen several posts on different platforms (this one included) about save files acting weird or bugging out for various reasons! i know the sims 4 mod reddit already has a trouble shooting guide, but if that doesnt help, i want to offer this more... time consuming fix!!!

this was originally posted as a comment by me, ive tweaked it just a bit

PREFACE

this guide is for those who have tried updating their mods, but something still doesnt seem quite right! ive been there, done that! this is a fix that has worked for me and, honestly, it is a bit of a convoluted way to do it!

i want to preface this with this may not be the fix you need or are looking for and that a lot of these steps can be avoided if you simply want to try to update your mods and repair your game! a lot of times, doing those two things will fix it!

if something still isnt quite right, you can try this! tldr: you take your mods & saves out, delete your cache, repair your game, run your game, put your saves and mods back in. heres a step-by-step on how i personally do this

GUIDE STARTS HERE

if youre experiencing a homescreen that says "wwwww..." where the household name should be, try repairing/restoring a previous save before continuing with this guide. as far as im aware, that glitch means your household has been corrupted and therefore lost. the game cannot detect any sims in that household, hence the 'w' where the name should be. you may have to delete that save file, and start fresh.

if you are experiencing ui glitches besides the "www...", try updating all ui mods that you have. this includes but is not limited to: ui cheats, better build buy, more columns in cas, more traits in cas, expanded build buy, custom ui colours, etc.. if the issue persists, make sure your game is updated, sometimes an up-to-date mod and an out-of-date game can cause severe ui glitches. if the issue still persists; follow this guide.

now onto the rest;

first, run your game. make a new save, make sure your current save isnt just a fluke. if it is just your current save, try recovering your save. if it isnt just your current save, do the following:

close your game entirely. even after closing the window, check your task manager to be sure its not open in the background

open your sims 4 game folder. your game path should be one of these:

C:\Users\[user]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\ (Windows)

Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/ (macOS)

once youve located your game folder, remove your entire save folder and mods folder. put these onto your desktop.

clear you cache (localthumbcache)

run your game with nothing in it. if the issue persists, close the game and open up whichever app you use to play it (ea, origin, steam). if the issue doesnt persist, skip to the final steps.

to repair your game, open the app you use to run TS4 and repair your files. typically this is done by clicking the game in your library and clicking the three dots, an option to repair your game should be there- however its been awhile since ive done this so i may be wrong! look it up if you need to! also make sure the game is completely up-to-date. if you cannot repair your game, clear the cache of the app you run it with. if this does not work, uninstall and reinstall the app. if issues persist, check online fourms for help!

if you use the anadius version of the sims 4, make sure you repair and update your game using his launcher, too.

once your game is updated and repaired, run the game with no mods or saves in it once again.

if the game loads and runs fine up till here, create a new save and test it.

if the new save runs fine, add your saves back into the game. do not add back the folder, only the files within the folder. your game should automatically create a new saves folder, as well as a new mods folder.

test the saves, if they work as normal then youre good to move on to the final steps. if they do not work, i suggest doing one of these:

try to recover/restore the save. you can do this by restoring a previous version from the "load save" menu, clicking the floppy-disk will allow you to restore a previous version before the bug happened.

if you cant recover your save but can open the save file without any immediate crashes, try to open cas and save the sims to your gallery.

if neither of those options work, your save may be a lost cause. im so sorry!

if everythings worked up to this point then youre good to do these... final steps

before adding back your mods folder, update all of your mods! (unless you know which mod is causing the issue)

are your mods up to date already? check their compatibility with both the game and other mods! most mod download pages will have a list of what is/is not compatible.

did you install a mod that requires a pack you dont own/have installed? either remove the mod or install the pack! you can check here to see a list of every sims 4 ep/gp/etc. name and number!

did you install a mod that requires a different utility mod that you dont have? either remove said mod or add the utility you need! this often breaks a game! a lot of mods require lumpinous mood pack, i always recommend to check for that first!

readd your mods, use the new mods folder that should have been created! make sure your script files are directly in your mods folder or only one folder deep, no deeper! make sure any other file (package files) are no more than five folders deep. typically, modders will tell you how deep their files can go, but one folder deep is my general reccomendation!

test your game! if it works, then congrats!

if any issues continue to persist, you can send me a message or an ask with the trouble youre having and i will try to help. otherwise, you may need to contact ea. this guide should be able to fix all problems regarding the game, unless the problem stems from a bad mod that you keep readding or game troubles themselves. the sims 4 is very buggy, play it safe, backup your saves!

We all know "game development is hard" and it's not necessarily the dev team intentionally half-arsing everything all the time, but I can't with the toxic positivity and the condescending defense and excuses made on behalf of this multi-billion dollar company.

I don't understand when or how (I do) "we" became so apathetic and defensive of our own exploitation. It's been too many years of bad actors poisoning the general perception of "people who criticize", and too many years of the "haves" convincing the "have nots" that it ain't them, nah, "it's the have nots criticizing them that's the real problem!"

I digress.

I have a BGC Mobility Assistance planned that uses some really nice custom content occult skin details and the Ghost walk style. The damned broken "automatic outfit switching" A.K.A. "the underwear bug" kinda dampened my excitement for making it, because whatever EAxis broke with that in Update 10/22/2024, randomly breaks the internal code that forces the removal of the M.A.P. when bathing, sleeping or swimming - but it's coming.

I'm inching closer to the end of my Wearables™ overhaul and getting back to my other projects.

Reminders for the upcoming TS4 update!

Simmers, the new expansion pack For Rent comes out on December 7th and as we all know, big updates can mess with your game especially if you use mods. I've learned my lesson from the last few updates and I'd like to give some suggestions to help!

Note: I use the EA App for Sims 4, on a Windows computer. The methods I describe here will probably not apply to MAC users. I also don't know if these work for pirated games so just be careful!

-BACK UP YOUR SAVES. Just in case your save gets corrupted or the update somehow manages to lose your saves (this has happened to me- after the update, my saves were gone). Here's what I do:

Navigate to your "Sims 4" folder. In my case it's Documents>Electronic Arts>Sims 4.

Find your "saves" folder and right-click to copy it.

Paste your copy of your saves folder to your desktop (some people paste to their external hard drive as well, but I'm not sure how to do this)

Right click on your copy to rename it. It's a good idea to write the date on which you copied your folder. Here's my current backup:

Your saves are now backed up! If you lose your files in the game or they become corrupted, open up your backup folder, then select and copy all the files in the folder and then paste them into your actual saves folder. Your saves will then be restored! You should do this every so often just in case. I try and back up my saves once a month.

-Turn off automatic updates. This way you can choose when to update your game. I personally wait until mod creators start updating their mods and then update the game.

Open the EA App and head to your settings, then the "downloads" tab.

Turn off the "update games automatically" option.

When you're ready, update the game and enjoy!

-Follow mod creators on social media. If you use mods, it's a good idea to keep up with updates and what the creators are up to. When there's a huge Sims update, many mods (especially script mods) tend to break and need to be updated by the creators. Keeping up with them allows you to see what their plans are for updating the mods. Creators use many different platforms, but from what I've seen most tend to use Tumblr, Patreon, and Twitter/X to post updates. If I find a mod I really like, I always follow the creator. They also deserve tons of support for their amazing work!

-Know which mods are broken and updated. In addition to following mod creators, there are multiple threads that log all mods with each update. They tell us which mods are broken, which are updated, and which were unaffected by the update. If you're experiencing a glitch with a mod, you can report it on these threads. Here are examples of threads from previous updates:

Always check these before writing to an official Sims/EA forum about a glitch. If you use script mods, the bugs you're experiencing will most likely be from these mods. Also, if you use UI mods like UI Cheats, don't freak out if your UI looks like this:

Your game isn't corrupted, the mod is just outdated. UI Cheats almost always breaks after a big update. The creator of UI Cheats updates frequently, so make sure to check up on their Patreon page.

-Check in with the community if you have a bug. The Sims Forums, r/Sims4 on Reddit, and Simblr are good places to go if you have a question about a bug you're having. r/Sims4 was a lifesaver for everyone who had the dreaded tooth glitch in Growing Together. If you're having a non-mod related bug, chances are others are having it too, so don't feel afraid to ask!

I hope this helps some of my fellow simmers. Good luck with the new update and pack, I can't wait to see how my favorite Simblrs use it in their stories and gameplays!💖

So I guess I have the right to post whatever I like (as long as obey the platform rules)? Plus, there isn't any download link of LMC now because I'm still fixing the bug. The LMC stuff can't work well in the latest version of game. Last week I finished the update of Taichi-Yinyang. This week comes the Starstrails and Starspiral hopefully.

Why update so slow? Because I don't have enough time for doing this. I've quit making ts4 cc for years and I have to spend my time finish other tasks in my real life.

RANT:

*Platforms and Roofs*

Who else would REALLY find it useful to have the ability to choose if we want a roofing piece to sit *on top* of a platform, rather than intersecting it? I’m thinking for stuff like the tower roof on the Psycho/Bates motel house. I miss the things I could do in TS2 with “constrainfloorelevation false” you know?? Not to mention having more than 4 floors to work with for towers and mansard roofs.

Basically, I want to use the platform tool to create a “spacer level” between the top floor, and the roof. Because that workaround of inching a roofing piece over from atop an elevated room, only to have your painstaking work delete itself because you forgot and added a wall somewhere in the house, is REALLY not ok.

Guess who's back (...kind of...?)

Hello everyone!

It's been 1,5 years. Wow, how the time flies!

You might have seen me lurking around on other simmers' tumblrs, writing a comment or two every now and then, but only now I feel like the time has come for me to return to my own space.

Here's a couple of announcements to get things re-started. I bet you're all busy, so I'll try to keep it short!

Private matters: A massive thank you to everyone who wrote me while I was gone ❤ There was quite a lot of you and I'm afraid I can't reply to each of those messages individually, but just so that you know: I've read them, they made me smile and I'm very grateful for all your kind words. I'm doing perfectly fine, and so is my little daughter. She's a beautiful and fascinating creature, learning new things all the time, and so unexpectedly that it really feels like if she was a sim levelling up and unblocking new interactions ^^

My CC: I still have very little free time and zero chance of going back to my old cc-making habits. That being said, in the past weeks/months I made a couple of teeny tiny things which I'd like to share with you, and also when I'm done with them I might make something new once in a while. Please keep your expectations low though! None of those things are Victorian; the majority (I guess?) aren't even clothes but mod add-ons, bug fixes, bb recolours - stuff like that. Still, someone might find them useful, so why not share?

For some more context, in case you care: my Victorian save got to the point of being quite paralysing (i.e. I wouldn't proceed unless everyone was dressed perfectly, living in perfect surroundings, reflecting not only their times, but also status and personality - and that perfect point turned out to be rather unattainable. Surprise surprise), and I really wanted to have some TS4 fun, so I started the Great British Sim Challenge. From the very beginning. Iron Age. At first I was determined not to make any cc for it and just roll with whatever I'd find, like any normal player, but you know how it goes XD So that's what pretty much everything I'm making is related to those days. Iron Age. Especially campfire. Why does everything I make have to do with the darned campfire...? The challenge is super fun, btw. I mean, for me. My poor sims would probably disagree.

Curseforge: I know many creators have by now moved to that new, EA-curated cc platform, and I've been thinking about doing it myself - even created an account - but in the end, for a number of reasons, decided against it. One of the main ones is that learning to use that platform and uploading there all my creations, old and new, would require quite a lot of time, which I simply don't have. If I have the choice between actually playing the game and having some fun, creating new cc I could share and uploading old stuff on yet another site... well, I guess it's clear which point has the lowest priority. So: nothing will change. Just as before, I'll be posting new things on my Patreon and simblr (linking to the Patreon page); everything will be free ofc, no early access either; and I'll keep constantly updating my downloads page, so that you could easily get an overview of everything I've ever made.

This save file or I are not fixing already existing bugs within the game (like missing roads in Evergreen Harbor). This save file does not come with any mods or cc.

This save file uses all Expansion packs up to Growing Together. All Game packs except Journey to Batuu and Werewolves. All Stuff packs. And the following Kits: Country Kitchen, Desert Luxe, Blooming Rooms, Décor to the Max, Moonlight Chic, Little Campers, Everyday Clutter, Simtimates Collection, Bathroom Clutter.

No new lots or renovations, I've kept the new San Sequoia in original state but the townies have gotten simple makeovers.

They have their own support staff/creators.    The mods are not required to play with this save file. How long have you been playing The Sims?

I began playing The Sims when the first one came out in back in 2000. I was only about 12 when my best friend at the time introduced me to the game. I played TS1 until TS2 came out and then I became obsessed with that. I tried TS3 when it first came out but I wasn’t really a fan of it and my computer just couldn’t support it. I couldn’t stand the lag and the bugs so I stuck with TS2. I bought the deluxe version of TS4 on release day but I didn’t end up actually playing it until about a year later.

How long have you been a Simblr, and why did you become one?

I officially started by blog in April 2014 (although I’m pretty sure I started it earlier, I just deleted a bunch of stuff). I initially started my blog as a reblog/role play thing but then I started using it to reblog TS2 tips, tricks and things I wanted to download. I also started posting my own game play. I created a Simblr because the platform was easier to use, and more aesthetically pleasing, than LiveJournal.

What type of Simblr are you?

I would say I’m a Maxis Match simblr that mostly posts sporadic and inconsistent game play with the occasional custom content sprinkled in.

Which generation of Sims do you primarily play?

I’m a strictly TS4 player. Every once in a while I think about firing up TS2 but there’s just so much effort that will need to be put into getting the game where I want it I give up. Plus I just can’t get past the beauty of TS4.

74. A legend from where you live that you like: It’s said that before big disasters happen in the town I live in + the surrounding areas, that you’ll see a panther. Supposedly one has been seen before at least 4 different bad things that have happened over the years. I’m in the midwest though so take that as you will.

80. What video games have you played? Which one’s your favourite? Uh, if I had to list them all you’d literally be reading this for eternity. To sum it up, I mostly play RPGs/JRPGs, open-world, survival horror (my fave), and a few (emphasis on few) FPS. Favorites are (once again with a limit): Bioshock, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Until Dawn, Silent Hill 2, and Fatal Frame.

If you had to change your name, what would be your pick?: Most people call me by my middle name already since I got tired of people calling me the wrong name (& I like my middle name better) and insisting my first name was actually a nickname (it’s not, it’s the same as the musician I’m named after) so if I were to eventually be bothered enough, I’d have it legally changed to my middle name.

Notes on Sims 4 environment design, mods and opinions

I’m still on my creative high believe me but i need to get this off my chest and might be a draft for an in-depth analysis of why we should just dump ts4 and push ea to make ts5 better for us

• Firstly, the pic is my maxis screenshot with a reshade preset that shan’t be reveal yet of my first mod to the game, a background replacement of the basegame, to bring my city into the game aka Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam 🙆🏻‍♀️

• Secondly i found a mod that replace the city buildings and such for the game (to which was extremely hard to track down and the creator is MIA or retired) i imagine doing that must’ve been pretty crazy cause finding the buildings file for environments is pretty hard and also getting it to work properly too, kudos to whoever did that for us, love it to death

• Last point and this is a big one that would pull everything into a hot can of worms:

I recently found out that the original sims 4 wasn’t meant to be what it is today, which is a ‘lackluster cartoon version of sims 3’ smh.. It was, and i’ll keep it in bold, supposed to be an online multiplayer platform 🤡 the clownery, the irony, my god.

Its original name was Olympus and it’s still remain in the game codes til this day, and it’s the reason why there are multiplayer mods for ts4 that exist out in the world and it IS THE REASON why ts4 is this bad and lackluster and weird like how it still is today. I didn’t know until recently looking at the wiki pages and watching YouTube analysis/story on ts4 that i was made known of this fact. Now we have the sims free play and it’s nothing like ts4, and to be frank i dont want to know it, because we all know that is what Olympus was aimed to be but was released on the wrong engine and the wrong time.

2013-2014 and before that (i’d say 2010+ ish) is the prime time of online platform gaming, if you know, you know. EA though it could make something to compete and/or destroy the competition but what it did was ignoring their gamer audience. We are introverts that sit at home torturing our sims and build homes that we’d never able to afford. That’s what we are, most of the sims players dont wanna have a multiplayer time ‘socializing’ through our sims and flex on other people. Why did they think making a kid/young teenagers version of imvu is cute?? Bro c’mon, C’MONNNN 🤧 We are adults, young adults that wants to live out crazy scenarios and multiple timelines, okay? Like the game is 40-60$ and yall expect kids and teenagers to be your core demographics?

Be real for a sec, most players of the franchise technically grew up with the game, and most of them are adults now still enjoying the game albeit lackluster content. Coming back to the 2 points i said in the beginning and explaining with the Olympus argument:

Yall be damn out of your minds to say that ‘they make the game like this because they want it to rUn On LoW sPeC cOmPuTeRs’ i call bs. It was meant to be an online platform, so it was built much simpler to be able to load fast and not experiencing online lag while on multiplayer mode. Low spec computers? What about sims 3?? That bitch was colorwheeling openworld fully customizable since 2008?? People played it fine back then. What are you talking about?

When it was at pre-release days, Olympus faced so much backlashs from players that it was forced to switch to the damn ts4 basegame we eventually got back then, it had basically nothing to play with, no babies, because what? Because it was meant to be an online sims platform. The game was made very compact and pretty low poly imo, all the meshing was boiled down to 1 size fits everything. Which very much explains the reality of in-game environment being cardboard placements of scenes AND the reality of we might never get proper cars and openworld.

I truly hope they dont try to make another Olympus nor pushing this ‘online multiplayer’ narrative to us again, just dont, please. Make the sims great again, not worse, thank you.

Bonus Prediction time:

For ts4, on what i’ve seen thus far, i say we would get some content for elders, some more vacation map/or maybe a remote country side with rice fields for farming content. Chances of openworld and cars are low, i dont even wanna think about it. Hopefully some good scifi/city content because we dont got those enough tbh. Maybe a generations type pack, or hobbies, there arent much expansions that can be added to the game anymore i think

For ts5, highly doubt it’d be as vibrant or stylized like ts4. I’d say mildly stylized but not too cartoony, an upgraded sims medieval (mind you that game have better sims texture than ts4, tea) i hope they make the game not too alpha. We would get cars, openworld, colorwheel. Build wise i think it would be in the likes of paralives but not too too customizable because then the proportions would be very off.

And that’s probably it for today, it feels great that I finally got down to wrote this all out bc really it sucks to be in the arguments of ‘ts4 should add this, and add that, and of we never had cars,...’ it’s tiring, and to finally know that at its core the game was not supposed to be like this, does relieve me somewhat. I’m sure the people working at the sims team knows it and already biting their own heads for the hot mess they’ve created and now they have to deal with the mobs that always up on their neck everyday demanding for things that werent meant to be buildt in the game at the beginning. Cut them some slack really, and at this time they are doing their best to fill in all the gaps that ts4 lack and fixing all the bugs within the game. Pray for the sims 5 and hope that they wont do us wrong in the future, because we do feed them yknow.

Half Haven v1.2

is now live!

Hello and welcome to Half Haven v1.2 launch! I have gotten couple new packs that included new worlds so here we go with an update. :)

This save file or I are not fixing already existing bugs within the game! This save file does not come with any mods or cc.

This save file uses all Expansion packs up to High School Years. All Game packs except Journey to Batuu or Werewolves. All Stuff packs. And the following Kits: Country Kitchen, Blooming Rooms, Moonlight Chic and Little Campers.

Build wise not much has changed, Tartosa & Copperdale have gone through townie makeovers and small building renovations but nothing big (due been built by gamechangers and looked pretty good as were to me).

- If you download this save file without owning some of the packs that I do; The game will either delete or replace those missing items with other (in most cases base game) items. - I have used the following mods all through out the building and creating process:  * MC Command Center  * Ui Cheats Extension  * BuildCam: FreeCam  * Map replacements from 20th Century Plumbob I do not guide you through these mods. They have their own support staff/creators. The mods are not required to play with this save file. Download with your own discretion.

- Cheats I have used while building:  * bb.moveobjects on  * bb.showhiddenobjects true  * bb.showliveeditobjects true - I have NOT used T.O.O.L mod - I have tried to gameplay test every lot, but I am only a human and might have overlooked some things - The Save File does not come with a Haunted House; up to you if you wish to add one - Some of the lots have been built before the game updates for stairs, platforms or  terrain tool - The save file comes with specific sims chosen by me, and as a surprise to you, who have joined Doctor, Scientist & Detective careers - I have given jobs and skills to majority of the townies and then randomized the level of skills with MC Command Center mod

○ You will find installation guide from the .rar you download. Read the installation guide carefully before coming in and asking why something is not working. Do not skip steps. Do not think "I don't need to create a backup". I can't save your save files if you lose them.

○ How to make a backup of your own save files: Head to the file: Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Saves Choose the files, copy (ctrl+c) Head to Desktop, right click with mouse; New; Folder Paste (ctrl+v) the save file/s to the empty fresh folder Name the file, example "TS4 Save Backup"
