From crude mock-ups in photoshop to a finished-enough something, the sculpting process in skinning kind of looks a little like this for me. Its responsive-ish, which is pretty cool for someone who doesn't really have an interest in responsive design.
See how the mark-up for it is done on my codepen here. Design inspired by this little thing I saw on pinterest.
#wip: a midsummer nights dream#jcink skin#jcink codes#Been spending some spare time learning how to genuinely understand vanilla javascript & basic jquery for this project -#and its actually a little rewarding throwing what i've figured out into execution! more on that later.

posting this here bc my friends told me "hey just ask reddit! they'll respond" so I listened to them like an idiot. I got no answers. so I play mc java on Mac and said friends made a server for 1.18.2 (modded) and I just cant get it to load. even in single player vanilla mc. it'll load everything just fine, and then get to the bit where it says its loading terrain and then just... freeze indefinitely. spinning wheel of death and all. it only does this with 1.18.2 for some reason? any tips to fix it or am I just cooked?

Here's my first ever Game Jam project! This is the submission page for it. And heck, look at what others have made for Gamedev.js Jam too! You might find some fun, fresh browser games out of it. (Voting's open!)
Maybe I'll be able to work on a more complete build of this game in the future and get my programming friend on board. He unfortunately has a lot going on irl and couldn't team up with me for the game jam period. So, I did what I could solo here!

Framework-heavy JS websites mistake substance for flashy lights. Meanwhile, static HTML just says what it wants to tell.
"web app" websites with a billion lines of react code and a 100 MB cache and enough tracking elements to find out what i had for breakfast, that take 20 seconds to load on my gaming laptop... they are like little inbred bulldogs to me. What are you puppy mill ass web devs doing!! your awful JS isn't making them "aesthetic," youre giving them serious breathing problems >:(
#not a haiku#javascript#html#react#this is targeted at you#gotta say i like having little js activities tho#like making animations of Creatures that for all intents and purposes seem like gifs#but instead are animated with js so they can blink at random intervals#but that's only with#vanilla js#anyway op you might wanna check out the small web#it's like. well. smaller websites that aren't tied to corporations#so people usually do it themselves and the websites tend to be more static

🚨 "VanillaJS is DEAD"? Think again! 🚨
Did you know Facebook, Google, Netflix, and Amazon still use Vanilla JavaScript in their codebases? 💻 The myth that "plain JS is outdated" just got debunked! 🎯
📖 Inside the article you’ll discover: 👉 What VanillaJS really means (spoiler: it’s not a library — it’s pure JavaScript! 🍦). 👉 Why giants like YouTube, LinkedIn, and Wikipedia rely on it. 👉 The pasta-making analogy you’ll never forget (🍝 vs. “spaghetti code” warnings!). 👉 The key difference between JavaScript and VanillaJS (hint: they’re the same thing 😉).
Spoiler: It’s not about which is better — it’s about when to use each for maximum efficiency! ⚡

i've been doing stuff on neocities for a good while now and feel very comfortable writing static vanilla javascript, but i want to dabble in learning server-side development on my own time since i probably won't be taking my college classes for it for a while. i am feeling a little overwhelmed with figuring out where to start. i am not familiar with back-end webdev even on a conceptual level, aside from the fundamental notion of databases and making/receiving requests. does anyone have any pointers of where to go?

how did you learn coding?
I am pretty much entirely self taught as far as front end goes!
I started messing around with HTML and CSS with tumblr themes back in 2016-ish.
For javascript I looked at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/ for a lot of documentation + examples. And also used codepen a lot to kinda reverse engineer existing snippets of code.
I also read a lot of https://css-tricks.com/
And for flexbox + css grid there's these:
After I got a good foundation of vanilla JS, I learned Vue for a little while and then moved on to React. The new react documentation is really good in my opinion so I definitely recommend reading that if you're interested in learning.
Most of my learning came from trial and error and working on projects that I was really excited about. I used to be so proud of findtags (the original version) which was in jquery...
The react version is miles ahead of it. And even then, the theme builder is also way ahead of findtags. I learned way more between those two projects than reading documentation alone!

This the type of tweets I hate seeing.
a) Its like “oh cool I didn’t know I could make so much with just JavaScript” (News flash: pure vanilla JavaScript can’t unless you’re super lucky, you’ll need to learn a bunch of other JavaScript related technologies to get even 17% of that pay monthly)
b) No job will make you earn that much so that means you’ll have do freelancing where you get clients and do the work for them and get paid of it (Fiverr and UpWork kind of thing), to be earning that much per month is $240k a year
c) Some will feel bad about their skills and even increase that imposter syndrome feeling because they’re not learning JavaScript or they are but learning the “wrong JavaScript”, already increasing pressure on themselves.
d) What even is the “wrong JavaScript”? (News flash: he doesn’t clarify it anywhere in the tweet or on his page).
All I’m saying is this lowkey damaging some, if not most, of the coding community online. If you follow people like this on anywhere and you constantly see these kinds of tweets are you’re learning, it’ll just create doubt within yourself like “What am I doing wrong?” Especially for beginners.
Some will say “oh this can motivate people! Make them work hard to earn this much” and that’s great, find motivation in anything, I’m happy! But reading the comments under this tweet was more like “what am I doing wrong? / “cap” / this is helping with my imposter syndrome” like??
I don’t know this guy’s intentions with this tweet; either clout, for likes, or he genuinely means what he said but it’s not helping at all 😅
If you’re learning to code, please follow the RIGHT people online, no “tech influencers” who do things for clout like this. Find genuine people who are learning like you or someone you can use as a mentor e.g. @tenaciousdeveloper he’s a great inspiration on here, or anyone you see learning coding on here.
That’s all! ☺️

daily log ₊˚⊹

today went wonderfully, although i still haven't gotten the hang of fixing my sleeping schedule. i'm trying to sleep earlier and wake up earlier, but i end up falling asleep a bit late and wake up late as well, which doesn't give me enough time throughout the day to do everything i want to accomplish. but despite that, i managed to do most of the things!
- did my daily workout, it was cardio today :) i managed to get into the habit of exercising regularly which i'm really grateful for because it's been keeping me sane lol
- practiced javascript for a little over an hour, i'm aiming to enhance my skills this summer
- cleaned my room and organised my shelf. been meaning to rearrange my things and i've been putting it off for so long, but i decided to finally do it. i listened to this youtube video on self compassion and shame, and how shame is rooted in the need for love. it was really insightful, definitely recommend watching/listening if you have an hour to spare
- i'm trying to incorporate more protein and really just maximising my protein intake and omg this snack i discovered is so so good... its basically yoghurt mixed with peanut butter, vanilla protein powder, and cinnamon, and i used that as a dip for apples! very delicious very filling
- i'm going to try meditating after i do my bedtime yoga so i can get back into the habit of meditating regularly, i miss it tbh
i hope all of you are doing well ♡ can't believe i managed to post twice in a row this week woah! gonna try to keep this up lol
