I am begging you, if you are a blog that posts a lot of photos/screenshots (even more if it's most or all you post: LEARN TO DO IMAGE DESCRIPTION
Either within the post (ie. [ID: .... End ID]) or as the alt text.
Which brings me to my next point: DON'T ACTIVATE THE ALT TEXT IF YOU DON'T PUT ANYTHING IN IT.
Alt text is not automated, you have to input the description. If you're not gonna do it, don't use it.
This is specially important if you are posting information for example about the genocide in gaza or the luigi mangioni case. Disabled people still need to access that information, still NEED that information.
Image descriptions and alt texts are so important for a lot of people with visual disabilities. But if making this site more accesible for blind folks is not enough to convince you... let me remind you that accesibility helps everyone. Bad internet and the image won't load... image description. Images get removed for "violating policy"... IMAGE DESCRIPTION.
People with sensory disabilities have the right to access information, even if that information is just a somewhat funny meme.

it鈥檚 really disheartening that the only tumblr blogs i follow that consistently add alt text/image descriptions to photos on posts and reblogs are ones run by visually impaired folks. even most of the leftist blogs & non-VI disability-centered blogs i follow aren鈥檛 consistently adding adequate IDs to photos, or even tagging them as undescribed so they can be filtered out.
like, how am i meant to believe your leftism/advocacy includes all disabled people when you run a leftism or disability-focused blog that isn鈥檛 even accessible? do you really care about all disabled folks, or just the convenient ones?
obligatory disclaimer that this doesn鈥檛 apply to people who literally aren鈥檛 capable of doing it. but let鈥檚 be honest, that鈥檚 not most of you.

Error's vision is maybe not the best
Tumblr media
I found its become increasingly hard to draw exactly how it is I see the world the more i try so i settled for this meh outcome lest i frustrate myself.
[Rambling + normal and no text version under the cut]
Tumblr media
I'm in the rare position to say I'm genuinely unique and I will most likely live my entire life span without meeting a single other person like myself.
That always makes me feel a little bit lonely, that people around me may have similar-ish experiences but it'll never be real understanding. With my other issues I can atleast find solace in the internet, read about characters with the same disabilities, yk? But there isnt anything out there for this-
So i made it myself!! Error has that fucked up eyes juice(tm). I'd like to believe its why he likes outertale so much, because gods the stars are beautiful when I stop trying to force the images in place. Its like an everlasting water color painting wiped across the sky in a thousand different hues. He deserves that kind of simple pleasure, I think.

The teenage mutant turtles are a metaphor for visible disability because they look different and people immediately treat them as others. And they have a strong sense of alienation from most humans and it affects them in different ways. And they can鈥檛 live as normal humans and have to hide away in fear of judgement and when they don鈥檛 do that they are faced with threats and ridicule.

I'm not gonna find this tweet because quite frankly I don't feel like going on Twitter
Tumblr media
Aside from the fact that this tweet is classist, not everyone can afford lasik, and lasik has been known to cause issues with your eyes, and it's a temporary solution (your eyes will worsen as you get older anyways).
This tweet really ignores how much the optometrist industry is just in general a really shitty and gaslighting industry for people that have issues beyond just astigmatism and vision issues.
And you're probably thinking "Like that's only a small fraction of people. What about everyone else?" That's kind of the fucking issue. I've had shit vision my ENTIRE life. Literally. Was so fucking blind when I was born that it caused long lasting damage in the nerves in my eyes.
Which means I've been to a lot of optometrists, and if you have any vision problems beyond what's seen as "common" (near sighted or near sighted with an astigmatism) they don't know shit.
And I could go into shit like how none of the optometrists thought to point out that I probably don't have depth perception until I was 23. But that's a niche issue regarding a disability I have due to my vision being so shit when I was so young.
Let's go into an issue that's less common. My prescription was +5.00 or worse my entire life. Plus I have an astigmatism. And a lot of contact companies don't make prescriptions for such severe farsightedness with an astigmatism. (They make prescriptions for -5.00, but not +5.00)
Every time I go to the doctor they're like OH MY GAWDS YOUR CONTACT BRAND IS SO BAD ITS LIKE YOUR EYES ARE SUFFOCATONG I MUST GET YOU A NEW ONE. And every single year I'm like "Trust me. You don't have any options in my prescription." And every time they're like OAH MAH GODS THEY MAKE ME EVERY YEAR LET MEH CHECK.
I'm like "Sure. Whatever."
Guess what? Last I actually checked 7 brands carry my prescription in monthly. A few carry my prescription in contacts that need to be changed every 2 weeks. But none of them carry my prescription in contacts that need to be changed every week or every day. (Which is apparently better or something. Idk.)
Why the fuck would I trust the doctors that gaslight me every year about what contacts I can use to suggest surgery for my eyes?
And that's not even getting into the very weird specific issues I have with my vision that eye doctors just.... shrug off... like they legit just ignore it. Like no matter what prescription they put me in I can always tell my vision doesn't match up to my peers even though I technically test 20/20.
(I know about the whole relax your eyes when you test thing. I literally tell my optometrist "Yo. Like this shit so blurry." And they just tell me that this is the best they can correct me to. Just try to focus my eyes more. This this isn't fucking normal.)
Idk. Ableds (derogatory) need to stop demanding disabled people get their shit fixed and instead ask "What the fuck is wrong with the system that these disabled people don't trust it to fix their shit?"
(Not everyone that wears glasses considers themselves disabled. If you don't consider yourself disabled, good for you. But my vision literally can't be fixed to match my peers, so... not to mention glasses can cost people hundreds of dollars and if your vision is shit enough the weight of the lenses can seriously wear and tear on your frames and your face.)

I think there should be a lesson when you're really young in every classroom, detailing every disorder or condition that you could have, no matter how uncommon.
Like I have a condition called visual snow (makes everything look static-y) that literally changes nothing about my life except minorly changes my perception of the world, and I didn't know people didn't see static everywhere until I was a mid to late teen.
So we should have a class for young kids that's like "hey, does your reality look like this? You might have this condition!" Also I think it might help diagnose medical and mental disorders earlier in life, which is an all around win.

Only 10 days left to snag this AWESOME TTRPG bundle!! 馃挍馃挍
Tumblr media
Hey y'all! All of the help you've given me thus far has been truly amazing, and I really wanted to thank you for that 馃挍 I have used the money this far as a safety net for emergencies and to just enjoy life, whether that means going to the movies once a month or buying an Arizona each day with my walk as I build my strength back up.
We are, however, falling a bit short of our goal. I really want to be able to afford therapy more than anything right now, and visits cost about 100 per visit out of pocket with my insurance. So, if I'm looking to get expensive therapy and psychiatric appointments and official diagnosis, it will cost upward of 2,000+ dollars.
Also, I would really like to have some money to pay off my taxes I owe from 2022. I owe, still, about 3,500+ taxes, which I pay off each month. I pay the absolute minimum so I don't have to dig too deep in monthly costs. If I could pay off a chunk of it in one fell swoop, I could save nearly $500 a year and could nip interest accrued from my taxes in the bud.
Finally, and not as important, I need a new desktop computer. My current one is slowly dying, and the fans are giving out. My power supply is also a bit wonky, and my graphics card is and CPU is outdated, meaning I can't stream games well, nor can I play some games that give me solace. It's not imperative right now, but to have this as an option would be wonderful.
So please, if you would, could you purchase a game bundle? It's countless hours of entertainment with your friends for only $25, almost a FOURTH the cost of a AAA video game with HUNDREDS of hours of content. Not only are you snagging games, but you're also helping out a person in need. It's a win win!!!

Snag the games below, and if you can't purchase anything right now, please kindly reblog!

This is Azaka Yukiko from Love's in sight!
Azaka has amblyopia and uses a cane to walk! She is partially blind and also cannot see color very well. She is a very independent person and isn't afraid to advocate for herself.
Negative stereotypes? None! Many describe Azaka as some of the best, if not the best, disability representation they have ever seen! To top this all off she is not infantilized by the narrative and is given a unique character outside of her disability.

"I care about accessibility" motherfuckers when you ask them to make shit readable and possible to view with a screenreader

[ Image ID: A light brown cat with darker stripes and spots in a car. He has both right paws on the shoulder of the person taking the photo. His back left paw is on the seat of the car and his left front paw is out of frame against the window of the car door. The cat has a surprised expression on its face with its mouth wide open as well as its eyes. He is looking at something behind the camera. // End Image ID ]

Hey, just a question. Why is everybody using id (image descriptor) written under the pictures on their posts instead of the option of ALT (alternative descriptor) on the images themselves? Does the alt descriptor work poorly or...?
